Pros, Cons, and Interesting Class Features
Ease of Leveling, Farming Potential, and Dungeon/Raid Demand
This is meant to be a summary of each class, to help you choose what appeals to you, with a link to the class overview and guides if you want more indepth information.

WoW Classic Classes
There are nine classes in Classic WoW:

: Healer*, Melee DPS, Tank
Priest
: Healer*, Ranged Caster DPS
Rogue

Ranged DPS
Playing a WoW Classic Druid
Not sure what to pick? Why choose at all? The versatile Druids can fill any role: tank, healer, melee DPS, or caster DPS.
Races:
暗夜精灵
,
牛头人
Specs:
Balance (Caster DPS), Feral (Tank or Melee DPS), Restoration (Healer)
Usable Weapons:
Fist Weapon, Mace (2H), Staff
Usable Armor:
Cloth, Leather
Pros:
Versatility; they can fill any role, although this can require respeccing the talent tree.
Cons:
Jack of all trades, master of none. Not a standout in any role.
Interesting class features:
Can teleport to Moonglade at level 10, a neutral druid hub that can serve as a second home. Gets
猎豹形态
at level 20, which includes rogue-like Stealth and faster foot speed (with talents), an
旅行形态
, allowing faster underwater travel and water breathing out of combat, and
旅行形态
at level 30. Druids in shapeshift form do not calculate damage output from weapon damage; weapons are "stat sticks" only.
Ease of Leveling:
Fair to good, depending on the talent tree. Most players choose Feral, as the
猎豹形态
's stealth, speed, and combat abilities make this easiest. Plus, you can switch into Bear form and tank dungeons, at least at the non-end-game levels.
Farming Potential:
Fair to good.
猎豹形态
is a decent farming spec, as the combination and stealth and foot speed will help move between targets with ease.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Fair to good. For dungeons,
bear tanks
are viable, but they lack the top threat mechanics of a warrior, and
Restoration Druids
are always welcome as healers. For raids, only
Restoration Druids
will be in demand (many raid strategies recommend 3 Resto druids, primarily for
激活
, as the DPS druid forms can't compete on damage output with other classes, and bear tanks aren't viable as offtanks.
PvP:
Druids are powerful in PvP during early Classic. While other classes are scrambling to gather more Attack Power or Spell Power in order to do higher burst damage, Druids prove themselves in long fights where you slowly whittle away your opponent. Druids can also quickly put distance between opponents by using
旅行形态
, as well as using roots from
and
纠缠根须
.

Playing a WoW Classic Hunter
If stalking enemies from afar aided by your faithful companion appeals to you, the Hunter may be your class.
Races:
矮人
,
暗夜精灵
;
兽人
,
牛头人
,
巨魔
Specs:
Beastmaster, Marksman, Survival (DPS)
Usable Weapons:
Bows, Crossbows, Guns, Axes (1H/2H), Swords (1H/2H), Fist Weapons, Polearms, Daggers, Staves, Thrown
Usable Armor:
Mail (starting level 40), Leather, Cloth
Pros:
One of the best solo classes in the game, due to never really playing "alone".
假死
, a level 30 ability, is a great way to shed aggro instantly and get out of bad situations.
Cons:
Must carry
ammunition
, which consumes a bag slot for a quiver or shot pouch. Pets must be fed or they will lose loyalty and abandon, meaning Hunters must acquire and carry more food. The class suffers from a bad reputation due to hunters who manage their pets poorly (pro tip: turn off your pet's Growl in dungeons and raids!)
Interesting class features:
Pet management
is much more involved in Classic than in Retail, as pets require a great deal more monitoring. Hunters have powerful
Tracking abilities
that allow them to track different types of mobs selectively, although only one tracking type can be active at once. Hunters also get an epic challenge for the desirable bow
伦鲁迪洛尔,上古守护者的长弓
.
Ease of Leveling:
Excellent. Arguably one of the two easiest classes to level, particularly solo (Warlock is second), due to your pet tanking and
traps
.
Farming Potential:
Can be excellent due to the hunter's soloing strengths. They can also track different types of mobs, helpful for finding specific types for farming purposes. One downside is only one Tracking type can be active at once, which means that any hunter Tracking ability cannot run at the same time as either
寻找草药
or
寻找矿物
.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Hunters are great designated pullers and come with a variety of crowd control abilities. They're decent in dungeons, but always remember to keep your pet on Defensive or Passive and turn off your pet's
低吼
, or you might find yourself uninvited from the group. For raids, most top strategies recommend only 3 Hunters for a 40-man raid to get a decent rotation for
宁神射击
, as Hunters can't compete damagewise with the top death dealers.
PvP:
Hunters are fun to play in BGs and 1v1s, and they truly dominate the open-world PvP due to their ability to kite endlessly with their traps such as
and their slows like
震荡射击
. Talents like
provide you with extra range, allowing you to ambush unsuspecting players from afar with powerful
and
多重射击
.

Playing a WoW Classic Mage
Love that feeling of blasting enemies into oblivion? Mages are the masters of the damage meters.
Races:
侏儒
,
人类
;
巨魔
,
亡灵
Specs:
Arcane, Frost, Fire (Caster DPS)
Usable Weapons:
Staves, Wands, Daggers, Swords (1H), and off-hand items (Wands are important!)
Usable Armor:
Cloth
Pros:
Mages are the masters of putting out a ton of damage quickly. With the ability to control movement through
and frost spells that root or slow opponents, they have a lot of ways to make life difficult for their opponents.
Cons:
Mages are squishy, so expect to die a lot, especially as you are getting use to the AOE mechanics. The term "glass cannon" applies here -- you do a ton of damage, but you can't take much of it.
Interesting class features:
Mages are the most self-sufficient in terms of travel, with personal
city teleport
spells starting at level 20 and
portals
for you and your entire party starting at level 40. Mages can also make their
own food and beverages
. Expect to get asked to do these things a lot for other people.
Ease of Leveling:
Good, with caveats. Most mages choose to level in Frost spec, as it both has the highest survivability and opens up AOE leveling -- gathering up large numbers of enemies and blasting them all down at once. The very first level 60 in Classic was an AOE-leveling mage.
Farming Potential:
If farming is something that's important to you, get good at AOE grinding. They're
excellent farmers
because of this ability.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Excellent. Demand for a good mage will always be high. Mages are one of the biggest damage dealers in the game, so they will make up a good portion of the DPS for raids. If being part of a raid group appeals but you're not into tanking or healing, mage is one of the two DPS classes in highest demand.
PvP:
Mages are a solid PvP class. They provide the strongest AoE PvP damage in the game, as well as some of the best utility and control. Mages are outshined by other classes when it comes to single-target damage, but they make up for it with unparalleled control.

Playing a WoW Classic Paladin
If you enjoy saving others' lives and always imagined yourself as the "knight in shining armor", the paladin is your class (even if you might end up wearing a dress).
Races:
矮人
,
人类
(Alliance-only Class)
Specs:
Holy (Healing), Retribution (DPS), Protection (Tank)
Usable Weapons:
Axes (1H/2H), Maces (1H/2H), Swords (1H/2H), Polearms, Shields, and off-hand items
Usable Armor:
Plate (starting level 40), Mail, Leather, Cloth
Pros:
Paladins have a lot of bandwidth. They're one of the only melee classes that can self-heal and self-buff.
Cons:
Alliance only. Like all melee characters, they are highly gear dependent and can be challenging to level. Paladins lack the threat generation abilities in Classic that they enjoy in Retail, and thus are not in demand as
primary tanks
. With no ranged spell or ability to use ranged weapons, face-pulling becomes a Paladin art form (at least until you can get the coveted
林克的回旋镖
trinket from Un'goro Crater.
Interesting class features:
Paladins are one of two classes that gets a free mount at level 40 -
召唤战马
. The level 60 version,
召唤军马
, involves a questline, gold, and farmed materials, some of which you may need to bargain with other players to obtain, but possibly cheaper than buying a typical level 60 mount.
Ease of Leveling:
Slow; very tedious to level solo. Grouping and leveling through dungeons is your best bet.
Farming Potential:
Paladins don't make great farmers, as they lack the good AOE abilities.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Paladins can be good dungeon tanks and healers, so they will be in demand for those roles. However, in raids, their numbers and roles are usually limited. Their most valuable role in raids is with
blessings
,
auras
, and healing, so many Paladins end up wearing
healing-related cloth items
in their raid sets as they serve healing and buffing support roles.
is a notable blessing, providing stronger
threat reduction
than the Horde equivalent
. Most raid strategies recommend no more than 4 Paladins, and almost always Holy, as Paladin talents are extremely flexible, allowing Holy Paladins to spec into improved blessings easily.
PvP:
Paladins are incredibly durable and powerful healers in WoW Classic. With plate armor, an array of powerful cooldowns, and strong single-target healing, Paladins are one of the best healers for supporting melee and are able to get into the fight without needing to worry about themselves.

Playing a WoW Classic Priest
Enjoy caring for your group and being an indispensable part of a dungeon or raid? Can't decide and perhaps want to melt faces in your downtime?
Races:
矮人
,
人类
,
暗夜精灵
;
巨魔
,
亡灵
Specs:
Discipline (Healer), Holy (Healer), Shadow (Caster DPS)
Usable Weapons:
Daggers, Maces (1H), Staves, Wands, and off-hand items (Wants are a MUST)
Usable Armor:
Cloth
Pros:
Strong leveling class in Shadow, great buffs and debuffs, best healer in game
Cons:
Mana management is always an issue
Interesting class features:
Priests can quest for an Epic weapon that can swap between two forms, depending on whether you're in healer or DPS form (
祈福
/
咒逐
). Priests also get
two unique abilities
based on their race,
for
矮人
being very desirable.
Ease of Leveling:
Excellent in
. Shadow priests are very powerful casters with high survivability due to self heals, although spells are highly mana intensive, which can slow things down. Holy and Discipline Priests can also level very effectively in dungeon groups.
Farming Potential:
Good.
Shadow priests
can learn to create rotations with little down time and are quite able to move through large numbers of mobs with ease.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Shadow priests can heal dungeons with proper gear. Holy and Discipline priests will never have trouble finding groups when they want them due to their wide range of healing tools like
for absorption,
for AoE, and
for Healing over Time. For raids, Holy and Discipline priests will be in the highest demand, although most raid strategies call for one Shadow Priest for
to buff
Warlock DPS
.
PvP:
The
Shadow Priest
is regarded as one of the best Solo PvP Classes in all of Classic WoW. With an array of powerful Offensive Spells such as
,
, and
, Shadow
牧师
can really dish out damage. But Shadow Priests aren't known just for their "face-melting damage", they are also extremely tough to take down, thanks to defensive Spells such as
,
, and flat damage reduction from
. However, being a healer — and particularly a cloth-wearing healer — you will be a particularly vulnerable target in PvP situations. If you don't time your healing abilities correctly, you're prone to be interrupted by your enemies, locking you out of any healing and effectively rendering you useless for a short period.

Playing a WoW Classic Rogue
Dreaming about a high-DPS, high-utility class with the ability to sneak past enemies with "get out of jail free" cards in their pockets? Look no further!
Races:
矮人
,
侏儒
,
人类
,
暗夜精灵
;
兽人
,
巨魔
,
亡灵
Specs:
Assassination, Combat, Subtlety (all melee DPS)
Usable Weapons:
Daggers, Fist Weapons, Maces (1H), Swords (1H), Thrown, Bows, Crossbows, Guns
Usable Armor:
Cloth, Leather
Pros:
Sneaky! Rogue
is a huge advantage to them, as they can surprise opponents by coming out of the shadows. Many of these abilities stun opponents, leaving them vulnerable to unopposed attacks. If talented through Subtlety, a good Rogue can practically step on an opponent's toes and go by without hindrance.
Cons:
No self-heal ability. Cooldown management can be a challenge. Being detected when stealthed can be disastrous under the wrong circumstances, as Rogues are not masters at handling multiple targets. While they can use different weapons, many of their notable attacks are only available when the dagger is held in the main hand. Watch carefully when obtaining "main hand" swords or maces, as these may not be the best choice for your preferred playstyle.
Interesting class features:
Rogues can
, a valuable crowd control ability, although this breaks
unless that risk is reduced by talents. Rogues can also
开锁
,
搜索
, and
侦测陷阱
.
Poisons
add a host of utility, including slowing runners with
空的毒药瓶
and slowing cast times with
. These must be applied to weapons to work, but don't require casting in combat.
Ease of Leveling:
Fair. While
makes it possible to sneak by trash mobs to get to deeper subjects, it also means that rogues can get into a lot of trouble this way. They're great with single-target but even two adds can prove beyond their ability to handle. Fortunately, they also get
消失
and
疾跑
to help escape such situations.
Farming Potential:
Fair. Rogues lack good AOE ability, which makes it hard to take down multiple opponents. On the other hand, the ability to sneak does let them get to mines or herbs in remote areas without having to worry about nearby mobs.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
High. Rogues have great abilities for crowd control, including
致盲
,
,
, and
.
Poisons
provide valuable crowd control and caster debuffs. Combine this with their high single-target damage output and threat reduction via
, and they are in high demand for raid teams.
PvP:
The Rogue Class is one of the most infamous PvP Classes in all of World of Warcraft. A Rogue's biggest strength in PvP is being able to pick their battles, thanks to
. Some of the things that make a Rogue such a potent killer are the powerful cooldown abilities, such as
and
致盲
, enabling the Rogue to use more "Opener" abilities against the target.

Playing a WoW Classic Shaman
Interested in harnessing the four elements to do your bidding? Enjoy the flexibility of powerful buffs, self-healing, and running around as a spectral wolf? Consider Shaman Life.
Races:
兽人
,
牛头人
,
巨魔
Specs:
Enhancement (Melee/Caster DPS), Elemental (Caster DPS), Restoration (Healer)
Usable Weapons:
Daggers, Axes (1H; 2H if Enhancement), Maces (1H; 2H if Enhancement), Fist Weapons, Staves, Shields, and off-hand items.
Usable Armor:
Mail (starting level 40), Leather, Cloth
Pros:
Great buffing ability and AOE healing.
Totems
provide great flexibility for a wide variety of situations, both soloing and in groups.
Cons:
Horde only. Mana management is always going to be an issue. Difficult-to-control burst damage. Rotations can become a little too routine.
Interesting class features:
Shamans gain the
幽魂之狼
ability at level 20, increasing outdoor speed by 40%.
Ease of Leveling:
Good, as long as you stick to Enhancement, largely recognized as being the best leveling spec for a Shaman. Even at early levels, damage is good and your ability to self-buff and self-heal makes it easy to go up in the ranks.
Farming Potential:
Very good.
幽魂之狼
is a great boon for farming, as you don't need to drop form to loot most things and you can move very quickly between destinations.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Shamans are best supporting melee classes due to
and
. They're also decent as a backup healer or rezzer in a pinch, even when not specced into
Restoration
. They aren't good dungeon tanks, but the combination of good (not great, but good) DPS output and utility makes them welcome additions. Most raid strategies support adding anywhere from 5-8 shaman depending on the raid destination and goals; since Shaman totems only affect single groups, not entire raids, it's important at least to have Shaman in the groups with main tanks, offtanks, and high DPS melee classes such as
Rogues
.
PvP:
Shaman are among the most feared healers in WoW Classic, both due to their ability to supercharge the damage of their allies through
and also because of the disruption and burst damage they bring, through spells such as
and
. They can also use a hybrid build to gain significant burst damage while maintaining most of their healing prowess, which is generally the best approach for PvP.

Playing a WoW Classic Warlock
If you love soloing and living on the edge with an enslaved demon whinging at your side, warlock life is for you!
Races:
侏儒
,
人类
;
兽人
,
亡灵
Specs:
Affliction, Demonology, Destruction (Caster DPS)
Usable Weapons:
Wands, Staves, Daggers, Swords (1H), and off-hand items (Wand is a MUST).
Usable Armor:
Cloth
Pros:
After level 10, warlocks never play alone, as they have a demonic slave at their side to fight for them. Different demons at different levels provide flexibility when dealing with different enemy types. Warlocks can summon party members, have a self-heal through
治疗石
that they can share with other players, and can create a
灵魂石
for instant resurrections for themselves or other players.
Cons:
Warlocks must create and use Soul Shards for summoning demons and other important abilities, which can cause bag space issues and creates the need for continually keeping shards in stock. Warlock abilities also reward risky play, which can backfire spectacularly on occasion. Warlocks are self-destructive -- they can consume their own health to augment their mana (
), and then drain their opponent's life to get it back again (
). While effective, this can also be dangerous. Fear-kiting, another popular technique, can also bring the house down with large numbers of unplanned adds.
Interesting class features:
Like Paladins, Warlocks also get a free mount at level 40 with
地狱战马
, and can quest for the
恐惧战马
ability at level 60.
Ease of Leveling:
Warlocks are one of the two easiest classes to solo in game -- the first is the Hunter. The power of the pet and the ability to multi-DOT several mobs at once can make it an exciting challenge indeed.
Farming Potential:
Because of the pet, they are great farmers who can easily handle groups.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Very good. Warlock summoning, healthstones, and soulstones are all popular for both dungeons and raids. Warlocks should be careful with pet management -- use DPS pets instead of pets that use taunt, and keep the pet on passive or defensive. Most raids like to have 4-5 warlocks with
Cursing assignments
; since each Warlock can only apply one type of curse, each Warlock will be assigned a particular curse such as
to put on the bosses and other mobs.
PvP:
The warlock is a PVP mastermind. The abilities available to a warlock give them a massive PVP toolkit, enabling them to bring multiple foes down solo consistently. With no debuff slot limitation in PvP, or concerns about threat, you’re now able to unleash the full warlock toolkit and do so in a variety of ways.
is now a staple for nuking down a target that is already CCed.
is now available to quickly finish off a target who is close to death. A variety of utility curses are now use-able: from
for Slowing and
to keep enemy casters in line.

Playing a WoW Classic Warrior
Want to be the most popular person on your server? Love protecting others and taking care of your groups? Join the Warrior Corps and be in constant demand!
Races:
All Races
Specs:
Arms (Melee DPS), Fury (Melee DPS), Protection (Tank)
Usable Weapons:
All Weapons except Wands
Usable Armor:
Plate (starting at level 40), Mail, Leather, Cloth
Pros:
You never have to play alone unless you want to. Warriors are in constant demand for dungeons. No tank in Classic compares to the effectiveness of a Warrior.
Cons:
Highly gear dependent. No ability to self-heal. Lots of very long cooldowns on some abilities. Rage (the warrior's resource for using ability) actually starts at zero and then works up, so you will start out with little to no resources to draw on to start using abilities. Out of combat, any rage you have generated reduces until gone. Some opening abilities such as
help open with some Rage, and later talents improve Rage generation and slow decay.
Interesting class features:
Stances are unique to warriors, and give them a level of versatility when choosing talents. These stances reflect the three talent trees --
(Arms),
先锋
(Protection) and
(Fury), but these stances can be used by any warrior. It allows them a bit of versatility to alter their abilities without having the trouble and expense of changing talent trees. Arms warriors generally do best with stance dancing, since they are in the middle of the pack between high damage output (Fury) and survivability (Protection).
Ease of Leveling:
This can be a very difficult class to solo. Leveling with a healer/high DPS friend or as a tank through dungeons is one way to ease leveling as the experience and gear upgrades are good, but this requires committing large blocks of time.
Farming Potential:
Fair to poor.
Dungeon/Raid Demand:
Excellent. There isn't a class in higher demand for dungeons or raids than a
Warrior tank
. Warriors who wish to level Arms can easily do so until end-game levels; "stance dance" into
先锋
and make sure to bring your "sword and board" -- shield and 1H weapon. Raids will need a mix of dedicated
Protection warriors
as well as
DPS Warriors
as their damage scales well with good weapons and armor.
PvP:
Arms Warriors
are PvP gods, exerting pressure and control onto the opposing players as
致死打击
deals massive damage.

Druid Travel Form is
not
mount speed - it is only 40% (in Classic).
评论来自
Methusalah
I'm sorry, but I got no further than the druid guide before all the inaccuracies putting me off:
1. Incorrect weapons listed.
2. Travel Form is slower than as mount and druids still need to buy a mount at 40
3. Acquatic form is usable in combat
4. 'Able to tank dungeons at least before end game'. Druids are viable tanks throughout the game. Many believe they are better dungeon tanks than warriors. There is a solid argument against them being main tanks in raids, but even here, an increasing number of players see them as a viable (even if not optimal) raid mt (and there are a number of raid bosses where they are the best mt).
5. Farming potential - fails to mention that druids can gather in form, so no time wasted mounting. Also fails to mention (also in levelling part) that a druid's biggest strength is zero downtime due to self-heals and being able to use both mana and energy.
6. 'But they lack the top threat mechanics of warriors' - no.
7. 'Bears aren't viable as off-tanks'. Just no. See above. Bears might not be optimal MTs, but they possibly are the best option for an off-tank.
8. PVP - misses most of the key strengths/weaknesses. Self-heals; hard to kill; hard to pin down; very strong mobility; stealth; low burst damage.
9. Omissions - I would say the utility that druids bring (Innervate, combat res and LotP) are worth mentioning...

Possibly one of the most flawed guides I've seen on WoWhead. At this point you guys are just pushing Classic articles out every day for the page views alone, regardless of the accuracy of the piece. Folks have already pointed out how they couldn't even get through the druid portion without spotting the low quality of research and writing that went into this.
Having played Paladin for nearly 15 years, I can point out some errors in regard to the class. For example;
-
They don't make good farmers?
About as far from the truth as one can be.
Paladins are one of the best AoE grinding classes in the game
, thanks to their Protection spec coupled with Consecration and Retribution Aura. Paladins are well known to farm in the plaguelands for lucrative loot, at rates that only mages can achieve, thanks to their abilities Holy Wrath and Holy Shield. They may not have the leveling speed of a mage, but the capability to farm a dozen mobs at a time, solo nearly any dungeon in the game, and even two man Strat/Scholo if paired with a strong healer, pushes them to the top of the list. No idea where you got the idea that paladin didn't have strong AoE. It is some of the best in the game, and hands down the best of any melee class.
-
No ranged pull?
It seems the author has totally forgotten about
Exorcism.
Considering two of the most ran end game dungeons are Scholo and Strat, Prot Paladins make good use of their 30 yd range pull. I will not pretend that prot paladins aren't required to use the boomerang in BFD, LBRS or DM, but no mention of exorcism at all is a little strange, considering it is one of many reasons why Prot paladins are preferred as tanks for Strat/Scholo.
-
Limited to Holy in Raids?
I have seen raids bring far more than the "limit" of four paladins, and more often than not, they are not just all simply Holy. Yes, Holy Paladins are the strongest healers in the game at this phase, but both
Ret and Prot (or hybrids thereof) bring incredible buffs like Kings, Sanctuary and Sanctity Aura to end game raiding.
By no means is endgame raiding as a paladin "limited." There is a reason why folks still joke to this day about making an entire raid with just paladins. It very nearly could be done!

In this thread people salty because they want their meme spec to be considered better than it really is. This guy is right about most things. He didn't go into extreme detail as it's a simple guide and not a flat out tutorial.
Also I see so many people going off of private server bull@#$% when it comes to these meme specs. Raids weren't tuned right there. It's partially why certain classes parsed so abysmally low (Hunters).
