Welcome to Wowhead's Classic Cloth Farming guide to Silk Cloth, Mageweave Cloth, Runecloth, and Felcloth! In this guide, we will cover everything about the best places, mobs, and levels to farm Silk Cloth, Mageweave Cloth, Runecloth, and Felcloth efficiently in Classic WoW.
To see the guide covering low-level cloth drops such as Linen and Wool, please read
Cloth Farming Part 1: Linen and Wool
Cloth Farming in Classic, Part 1: Linen and Wool
Why Farm Cloth in Classic WoW?
Farming cloth will be even more critical in Classic, with the increased importance of
Tailoring
for gear and bags,
First Aid
and the many
reputation turn-in quests
that return to the game. While you will inevitably get drops as you move through normal progression, targeted farming requires a little knowledge of how cloth drops work in the game and hints about the best places to go to get the most cloth for the time invested. Also, when Phase 5 of Classic hits and the opening events for the Gates of Ahn'qiraj event starts, players will be able to turn in cloth bandages will let players earn valuable signets that can be turned in for supply boxes or city reputation.
Which Mobs Drop Cloth?
Cloth drops primarily off Humanoids; these will be your most prolific target for most types of cloth. It also drops off Undead, Demons, a few elite Giants, as well as a very small handful of high-level dungeon and raid elites of different types. For farming purposes, however, this guide will focus primarily on areas with Humanoids, with a secondary focus on Undead and Demons, as these are the groups with the highest drop rates and best camping concentration. One cloth type, Felcloth, will be different from the rest as this drops almost exclusively from Demons.
The type of cloth dropped by mobs in Classic WoW is primarily based on their level.

How to Use This Guide
For Silk, Mageweave, Runecloth, and Felcloth, I will be offering 2-3 top spots based on drop rates, density, concentration, and lack of interference from quests (when possible).
Click the map thumbnails to see a larger-scale version.
Ren Recommends are handy tips and personal favorite spots for cloth farming.
The four-level ranges of cloth farming
Each cloth type has four-level ranges. These refer to the level of mobs that will drop this type of cloth.
Start Level: Functional level at which mobs start dropping the cloth. While there may be a rare mob or two that will drop it below this level, it's not worth farming below the start level.
Sweet Spot: The level range where mobs have the highest percent chance to drop
only
the target cloth at the highest possible rates. Keep to the sweet spot when doing targeted farming, since the yields will be higher.
Overlap: At these levels, you could get the cloth type just above or below your targeted cloth it (such as a chance to get either linen
or
wool). This is less efficient, but there may be times when you want to seek overlaps on purpose.
End Level: While you still might get the odd drop beyond this level, it's pointless to farm intentionally past it. Focus on the sweet spot.
Farming Silk Cloth
Level Ranges to Farm Silk Cloth
Start Level: 28
Sweet Spot: 30-40 (rates), 36-40 (yields)
Overlap: 28-30 | 38-40
End Level: 40
丝绸
is odd in that it has two sweet spots. It starts out having a high drop percentage as early as level 30, but potential yields don't reliably go up to 3 Silk Cloth per drop until level 36. Still, it's easier to farm than wool, which should be a relief at this point.
Those leveling
First Aid,
will need at least 90
丝绸
, and
Tailors
will need at least 860
Silk Cloth
. For
reputation turn-ins
, you will need 60
丝绸
per turn-in (once per faction per character).
Best Places to Farm Silk Cloth
THOUSAND NEEDLES (24-35)
Highly concentrated camps of
Galak centaurs
(24-28) make Thousand Needles an unexpectedly good silk farming zone, particularly at the lower levels. There are also significant populations of Gravelsnout kobolds (24-28) -- more spread evenly through the region than in highly concentrated camps. There are also several Grimtotem Tauren in the central part of the zone, but given that most of these are up on platforms, these are less convenient to include in a farming run.
While highly recommended for lower level silk farming, by the time you reach your late 20s, consider a move to one of the higher-level silk gathering zones, or run nearby
Razorfen Kraul
dungeon for good silk gathering.
Ren Recommends: Thousand Needles is an excellent mining zone, so if you are combining silk gathering with mining, consider this a premium spot for both.
ALTERAC MOUNTAINS (27-39)
The vast majority of your target mobs will be in the 32-36 range, just below the sweet spot, but with high density such that it will hardly matter.
Horde-only:
The humanoids around
Dalaran
in the southwest corner range from levels 31-35; however, they will be friendly to Alliance, so only Horde can hunt here.
Ringing the zone are several camps of
Syndicate
humanoids (32-40), which both factions can enjoy farming. With a broad level range, you can hunt all through the sweet spot range. These aren't the densest farms, but they have the advantage of not being as accessible nor having as many quests as some areas such as Stranglethorn Vale.
破碎岭蛮兵
ogres (35-36) range to the east of the Ruins of Alterac, outside the castle gates. Stay outside the castle, as the inside is full of high-30s elite ogres. Since they don't drop more silk or drop it more often, it's inefficient to farm them unless you're way above level. Once you can handle these, they make a great loop route with the Syndicate.
Ren Recommends: Alterac Mountains provides not only excellent silk farming, but also great opportunities for
mining
and
herbalism
. It's not a great zone to combine with skinning, so choose Desolace if skinning is a priority.
Farming Silk Cloth in Dungeons
While the focus of this guide is on at-level cloth farming, it's worth mentioning a couple of dungeons with good silk farming, as one of them is too good to miss.
The middle two wings, Library, and Armory of
Scarlet Monastery
(34-45) are jam-packed with humanoids. These were always my favorite zones for farming silk off level. The Cathedral wing is higher level and decent for Mageweave farming. Scarlet Monastery is also one of the highest-level dungeons that a level 60 can solo reliably.
Razorfen Kraul
(29-38) is lower level, but surprisingly decent silk farming as well, and you can start it at a lower level than Scarlet Monastery.
Razorfen Downs
(37-46) also has some silk farming, but it bridges into mageweave. Still worth a visit.
Farming Mageweave Cloth
Level Ranges to Farm Mageweave Cloth
Start Level: 38
Sweet Spot: 45-49
Overlap: 38-44 | 50+
End Level: 50
魔纹布
has long overlaps with Silk as well as a short, sweet spot, but within that sweet spot, both drop rates and yields can be excellent. It drops off quickly at 50, particularly in terms of returns.
Those leveling
First Aid
will need at least 70
魔纹布
, and
Tailors
will need at least 450
魔纹布
. For
reputation turn-ins
, you will need 60
魔纹布
per turn-in (once per faction per character).
Best Places to Farm Mageweave Cloth
FERALAS (40-50)
The
Gordunni
ogres (40-47) will be targets of opportunity at a wide level range, starting with the lowest-level ogres north of Camp Mojache. These lead nicely into
Woodpaw
gnolls (40-44) and
Grimtotem
tauren (41-44), all around Camp Mojache. This seems more convenient for Horde than Alliance, given the proximity to a Horde town. However, the paths north around town go straight through cloth camps, so it's just an opportunity for more farming.
The southern ogre camps in the High Wilderness are mostly in the higher level range and likely to get better yields, so move there when you are able. Unfortunately, they are also involved in a large number of quests, so whether it's a good farming day will depend a lot on local traffic. It is, however, densely populated and large, as well as in an area with excellent mining, herbing, and skinning potential.
Northspring
harpies (48-50) are all right in your sweet spot, although it's not the most convenient place to pull due to changes in elevation and lots of caster mobs who won't come when called. They are plentiful and repop reasonably quickly, so it's still worth putting on your radar.
Ren Recommends: Feralas is my favorite zone, hands down. In addition to plentiful cloth camps, this is a great place to level all gathering professions. The Gordunni, Grimtotem and harpy camps are all in excellent areas for mining; the harpy camp is especially good as you can sometimes get higher-level Mithril and Truesilver mines along the northwest wall. Herbalists may wish to concentrate on the Woodpaw camps. And skinning all over the zone is nearly unparalleled for valuable Thick Leather; the yeti caves, hippogryphs, bears, and wolves around the High Wilderness are not to be missed.
TANARIS (40-50)
Wastewander humans (40-45) can be found east of Gadgetzan; in general, the lower level ones can be found more to the north and higher level to the south. Just beyond them, the densely-packed Southsea pirates (44-45) have both high density and a good repop rate. The map is somewhat sprawling, so they are not easy to string into a farming loop (plus there's an annoying run through a tunnel to get to the pirates that will dismount you). It's a good camp to get you ready for the real Tanaris cloth farming action: the ogres.
The
Dunemaul
ogres (45-48) have long held the reputation of being one of the best mageweave camps in the game, as they are plentiful, repop quickly, and mostly drop within the desired yield of up to 3 mageweave per drop. The terrain is flat, and it's an easy run among the three major camps.
Ren Recommends: Tanaris isn't the bomb zone for leveling other gathering professions, but it's the only zone in Kalimdor with a decent amount of
火焰花
. Skinning is decent from wandering scorpions and basilisks, and farming birds for
巨蛋
can also be a good money source, as these are needed in quantity for
蚌肉大餐
, the quest needed to get the final rank of Cooking. Sell these on the neutral Auction House for best convenience and quickest sales. (Also post a few stacks of
陈年干酪
and
奥特兰克冷酪
Alterac Swiss for one-stop shopping. Even when I didn't have eggs, I often kept a few stacks up on the neutral Auction House -- for a modest middleman fee, of course -- and usually sold out quickly).
FELWOOD (48-50)
If you're close to the highest levels of Feralas or Tanaris, don't have much mageweave left to farm, and wish to jump-start on
符文布
and
恶魔布
farming, head to Felwood to hunt the low-level
Deadwood
furlbog camp (48-50) in the southern part of the zone. In addition to good cloth drop rates, you'll start building
Timbermaw Hold
reputation.
The upside to this camp is that the mobs are in the sweet spot and repop quickly. The downside is that this is a well-known camp and there is likely to be stiff competition for the spawn. Still, it's worth mentioning that this can be a viable mageweave camp that allows you to transition to the higher-level cloth.
Farming Mageweave Cloth in Dungeons
With massive numbers of humanoid mobs,
Zul'Farrak
is an excellent mageweave farm, with upwards of 3-4 stacks on average per run.
Farming Runecloth
Level Ranges to Farm Runecloth
Start Level: 50
Sweet Spot: 55-60
Overlap: 50-53 | all 50+ Demons
End Level: n/a
符文布
can drop up to 3 at one time in the sweet spot, so it's worth targeting this level range if you have the ability to do so.
Those leveling
First Aid
will need at least 50
符文布
, and
Tailors
will need at least 800
符文布
. For
reputation turn-ins
, you will need 60
符文布
per turn-in (once per faction per character); after the initial 60-cloth turn-in, you can do the repeatable 20
符文布
for additional faction reputation rewards.
There are more recommendations for Runecloth camps here than any other cloth, with good reason: Runecloth is one farm with nearly universal appeal, especially with the repeatable Runecloth reputation turn-in quest.
Most of the featured Runecloth camps overlap with reputation farms, particularly for
Argent Dawn faction
,
Cenarion Circle
, and
Timbermaw Hold
. This will create heavier competition, but it will also allow you to maximize your farming time for multiple ends.
Best Places to Farm Runecloth
FELWOOD (48-55)
See
Felcloth
(below) for camps and map.
This is one overlap that will suit you well -- Felcloth's drop rate is so low (3-5%) that you can double your fun and profit by farming for both Runecloth and Felcloth at the same time. You could add in some trips around the furlbog camps in the zone for Runecloth only, but I'd recommend sticking to the demons for a chance for valuable Felcloth drops. Add in the furlbogs only if you are working
Timbermaw Hold
rep.
Ren Recommends: If you are going after furlbogs for runecloth, be very, very careful to distinguish the "good" furlbogs from the "bad" furlbogs. Hunting the Timbermaw furlbogs in the caverns between Felwood and Winterspring will yield runecloth, but it will also have a nasty negative effect on your
Timbermaw Hold
rep. As in life, it's much easier to lose vast amounts of reputation than it is to build it back up again.
WESTERN PLAGUELANDS (51-58)
With several undead camps and a few humanoid camps, the central part of Western Plaguelands is an excellent lower-level runecloth farm, and a smooth transition to the higher-level and runecloth-rich Eastern Plaguelands. Several Undead (53-56) haunt the various farms, as well as the Ruins of Andorhol (be very careful here, as there are wandering elites). Around the northern wall and up to the road to Hearthglen, you will find several small Scarlet Crusade (52-58) camps; don't go up to Hearthglen unless you're with a group due to the concentration of elites there.
Ren Recommends: Use your undead-killing time to raise your
银色黎明
Argent Dawn faction. Acquire an
银色黎明委任徽章
trinket from
银色黎明委任徽章
at the Bulwark in Tirisfal Glades for Horde, or
银色黎明委任徽章
at Chillwind Camp in Western Plaguelands for the Alliance to start earning Scourgestones from undead kills.
The farm locations of the undead camps also mean good higher-level herbalism. Choose to concentrate on the humanoid Scarlet camps if you're a miner since these are all in or near mountain areas. There is decent skinning throughout the zone.
EASTERN PLAGUELANDS (53-60)
There are many, many undead camps in Eastern Plaguelands, and not all of them have been included here as they are out of the way for a farming loop. As suggested in the section on Western Plaguelands above, get the
银色黎明委任徽章
trinket before you start so you can farm Scourgestones for
银色黎明
reputation while you're doing these camps.
Your bread and butter will be the large Plaguewood area south of Stratholme. It's enormous and positively teeming with Undead (53-58). If this area is overly camped, or you want to concentrate on higher-level mobs to ensure better yields in the sweet spot. There are three undead areas you can string together: Corrin's Crossing (55-58) in the center of the zone, and two camps north of Light's Hope Chapel that are 57-59/60. If you're doing this, you can also string in the one large Troll camp (57-59) in the northernmost section.
There are a few other scattered camps of undead, trolls, and elves that aren't included here. These are small, remote, and don't add much to farming loops (plus the Elves cannot be hunted by Alliance). Eastern Plaguelands is so spoiled for choice that camps can be left out.
SILITHUS (55-60)
Silithus doesn't have any large camps, and they're spread out, but it has one big advantage: the Twilight's Hammer (57-61) mobs. You'll need to farm them for Runecloth, and they are also necessary for raising
塞纳里奥议会
reputation. These are also heavily farmed for
暮光密文信
drops for
秘密交流
, which is a repeatable reputation turn-in for Cenarion Circle.
Ren Recommends: This isn't a great cloth-only camp, mostly due to heavy traffic. This is primarily presented as an option for those who want to prioritize Cenarion Circle reputation as well.
DEADWIND PASS (55-60)
This is an out-of-the-way and offbeat cloth farm -- presented here as more of an alternative than the main camp. It's great if you don't enjoy the crowds, as many of the other Runecloth camps will be heavily farmed and/or heavily involved in quests or earning reputation. Deadwind Pass has few if any quests (mostly associated with very high-level class quests) and mob-packed roads to get there. The aggravating trip alone will keep all but the most dedicated farmers away, but it has the advantage of having all its mobs in the sweet spot.
At the lower end are the
Deadwind Ogres
of the Vice (55-58), both in outdoor camps and in a small cave system to the southern end of their territory. On the road to Karazhan and around the old castle itself are plenty of
undead
(59-60). Inconvenient perhaps, but worth a trip for a dedicated farmer.
Farming Runecloth in Dungeons
There are many, many viable Runecloth farms in dungeons, so hit their halls if you feel so inclined.
Scholomance
and
Stratholme
(58-60) both have great cloth drops, as do the three Blackrock dungeons and superdungeons --
Blackrock Depths
, Lower and Upper
Blackrock Spire
.
Dire Maul
(55-60) has the advantage of having Felcloth drops as well. Just remember that upper-level dungeons require
keys
to enter the dungeon, or to enter certain wings in Classic.
Farming Felcloth
Level Ranges to Farm Felcloth
Start Level: 50
Sweet Spot: None
Overlap: Usually Mageweave 50-52; Runecloth 50-60 (always overlaps with other cloth)
End Level: n/a
恶魔布
must be farmed only off Demons, and even among demons, it's a rare drop. Drop rates are in the 3-5% range on non-elite mobs, and going up to dungeon-only elites only takes it up to 7% or so. There are only two outdoor zones with enough spawn to call potential Felcloth farms and one dungeon where you can get reliable drops.
恶魔布
also nearly always overlaps with Runecloth, although at lower levels it can also overlap with Mageweave. Demons that drop Felcloth don't generally drop Runecloth or Mageweave at a higher rate than 1-2, but it's still a worthwhile farm for both.
Felcloth is not used in First Aid and isn't necessary for leveling any profession. Two
恶魔布
are needed to create one
月布
, and Felcloth is also a component in several high-level tailoring recipes and one leatherworking recipe. As such, it's a highly important and sought-after ingredient, but not needed for skilling. There are also no reputation turn-ins requiring Felcloth, although it's involved in two Warlock quests.
Objective Of:
Warlock
Warlock
Best Places to Farm Felcloth
FELWOOD (48-55)
Felwood's camps are small, but they provide some good early opportunities to hunt both Felcloth and Runecloth. If you decided to move your late Mageweave farming to Felwood, you could transition to all three types of cloth in one reasonably compact zone.
For Felcloth (and Runecloth), you will be targeting
Jadefire
satyrs in three areas: two in the middle-west and one west of Irontree Woods. The lower level satyrs (50-51) overlap with Mageweave; the higher-level ones (51-52) can drop either Runecloth or Mageweave in addition to Felcloth. For the most part, you'll probably stick to the camps in Jaedenar and south of it, but these are popular farming zones. Moving to the northern camp may be necessary from time to time.
Ren Recommends: Felwood is probably my second favorite zone, not only for cloth but also for mining, herbalism, and skinning. The bears and wolves are also in high demand for meat for important cooking recipes, such as
食谱:嫩狼肉排
. This was my favorite zone for farming Rugged Leather for the event to open the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj.
AZSHARA (45-55)
Azshara's camps are not nearly as good as the ones in Felwood, but they are presented here as a farming alternative when Felwood is overrun. There are a few camps of
Legashi
satyrs (51-53) in northern Azshara that present some quieter opportunities for Felcloth farming.
Like the satyrs in Felwood, the Azshara satyrs are also involved in the Warlock quest line to learn how to summon the
召唤地狱火
, starting with the quest
.
Farming Felcloth in Dungeons
Demons and satyrs that drop Felcloth can be found in
Dire Maul
's Warpwood Quarter (55-60).

in Raven Hill instead.

The information for
Mageweave Cloth
is completely wrong. I tried the biased recommendation of Feralas and killed 15 ogres without a single cloth dropping. I know WoW is known for the most flawed RNG engine ever, so I kept going for an experiment. I made my way through the whole Gordunni area and ended up with 13 cloth out of 42 kills. That's less than a third per kill.
I then followed the tip from the Mageweave Cloth page
comments
and farmed in Hinterlands. First two drops were 3x and 2x so I knew I was in the right place. It averaged out to be more than 1 cloth per kill.
TL;DR; Don't go to Feralas, go to Hinterlands.

Worth mentioning for Farming Runecloth in EPL, WPL, or Deadwind Pass (if going after the Undead area). Make sure to equip your AD Trinket.

tried farming the Dunemaul ogres in Tanaris for Mageweave, got maybe 3 stacks in over an hour's farming. whilst you might get drops of 2 and 3 on an induvidual kill, it was taking me betwee 4 and 6 kills to get a single drop on average.

I've been farming silk, off and on, for the last few weeks. I started at level 35, and I'm now 39, as a lock. I'll pick a day in the week and just farm silk. I've been doing endless loops of the centaur cave in 1k Needles. Today, I tried around Dalaran, and the Fold up north of it. While the drop rate is higher in both than the centaurs, it isn't as a consistent kill rate.
Dalaran:
The humanoid npcs have, so far, only dropped one more (potentially) per kill. The rate seems to be slightly higher though. The problem is, you have the elementals mixed in there as well. Those, of course, don't drop silk. For every humanoid I kill, I have to kill 2 to 3 elementals as well. Wasting time and slowing the process down. They also are not nearly as packed in as the centaurs are.
The Fold:
They aren't as compacted as centaurs, and don't spawn as quickly. They seem to have the same drop rate as the Dalaran npcs, and are in the 38 to 40 level range. So, for me at level 39, the kill rate is much slower.
Centaur cave:
For me, this is the good spot. You have a consistent solid chest in there, often times with a green (or once a blue) to DE. There are also at least 2 mining nodes, often 3. They range from Iron to Truesilver. I can chain the centaurs 3 to 4 at a time, depending on the damage type of the centaur. If they are melee, I can have my pet agro one, I'll dot it with two dots, then have him move to the next. I'll chain 3 this way. By the time I've gotten the 3rd down around 90%, the first one is dead. If there are caster cents, I can 3 dot it and just ignore him. The dots will kill it on it's own and they don't do enough to worry about. Their spawn rate is quick enough, that by the time I'm at the beginning of my loop, they've all spawned again. The only slow down is my mana regeneration rate. If I keep that in check, it's endless killing with no need for breaks.
Their drop rate isn't as high, and you only get 1 to 2 silk per drop. There is the possibility of wool in there too. However, with the higher kill rate, this is the superior spot for me as Horde, and at my level. Out in Duskwood may be better, but the travel time makes it possibly not worth the effort comparatively. You also have the quick trip over the Freewind to offload if you need to. One trip (around 3 hours of fairly casually killing) will net me 60 to 80 silk, 20 to 30 wool, 20 - 30 iron, 10 to 20 mithril and a handful of greens. You have a higher chance of truesilver, as well as gold too. There tends to be a truesilver every other trip. On occasion, I've had it respawn as truesilver again in the same trip.

Such a great guide still! The classic wow guides are some of the best written on this site, I'm happy to say they are still useful in Season of Discovery.
