zomg....
reference
Discipline has access to a new talent: Power Word: Barrier, which is similar to a group-wide Power Word: Shield.
Several area of effect (AOE) heal spells have been improved: Prayer of Healing can be cast on any groups in your raid party. Holy Nova's mana cost has been reduced. Circle of Healing now heals for more.
Divine Spirit - this spell is now a core ability available to all Priests.
Penance – this spell can now be targeted on the priest.
zomg...
I really hope PW:Barrier is a smart spell, shielding the lowest x people much like CoH does. And, I hope they make it so if every bit of every shield is used up, its close to a zero mana ability. IE, the mana restored from rapture is slightly less then what the original cost was.
It doesn't sound like PoH will be smart, so I'll have to break out party specific raid frames again, but its still a huge improvement to disc utility.
And Penance? yay! The one tick self penance heals will be amazing, not to mention just needing to heal yourself in non critical situations (I have an addiction to jumping off stuff).

I'm looking at the proposed 3.1 changes from a disc only point of view.
Alas, I do apologize if I offended you.

I hadn't considered the Weakened Soul issue.
Even if it did, I would probably use it often, depending on the composition of my group. More often then not, I wouldn't actually need the extra "healing" from PW:S shield on my main target (usually the tank) and I'm only shielding them to keep up WS.
I really do think they should work on making all party abilities raid abilities, though. I've had my fair share of struggling over group compositions, and with their new system on bring the player not the class, having to consider the 5 person limit on an actual party is kind of counter productive to their ideas.

Will the following talents affect PW:Barrier?
Improved PW:S
Reflective Shield
Borrowed Time
I can see them changing it so it reads: 'increases effect of your pw:s and pw:b spells by x". There are a lot of other talents like that, right?
My thinking, is if they make pw:b trigger weakened soul, then the two spells will share the same benefits.
What about the Glyph of PW:S? If that were to heal everyone that gets PW:B that would be a pretty powerful combination.

I'm excited about these changes. I've never been one to hop on the "zomg nerf buff wax on wax off me class is crappy fix us please but nerf rogues they suck" train (wow that was run on). But, some of the changes they are proposing seem like they have really been paying attention to the concerns set forth by the community.
Of course, we are still a ways out from the patch- I think I will do my best to actually participate in the beta this time.

TBH It sounds a lot like the Discipline Priest's answer to a prayer about not having CoH. They have no real AOE non-party heals, with the exception of ProM and now Prayer of Healing. The advantage that CoH has over this is that it's a smart heal whereas this seems to target only party members. NOW, if it became a smart spell and automatically bubbled the lowest HP players in that given area... I'd wet my pants. But then I'd still stay holy for CoH. ;-) Excellent addition for both PvE and PvP though, I hope that it saves me on some healing I'd have to do. ;-)

Is this a trainable talent or will it replace Imp Spirit in the disc tree?

Just remember that about 30-45% of a discipline priests healing doesn't show up in the combat log.
so basing your decision to remain circle of healing on the healing meters might need some re-thinking.

CoH is also getting a buff and combined with the glyph I'm fairly certain it will have more healing or damage negation overall. I will experiment regardless asap.

Well, that's what us Disco priests are for. I honestly don't really 'heal' all that much in raid. I mitigate, and leave the healing up to the healers. Except the tank. He's my responsibility. :D
