Raid Overview - WoW Classic

From Onyxia to Kel'thuzad, the brightest stars from World of Warcraft back in its earliest years were its raids. Designed by players and lovers from large group content from older games like Everquest 2, Classic raids present many different layers of difficulty, from managing groups of 20 to 40 players to difficulties like farming many different reagents, raiding had different management challenges when compared to their modern counterparts.
In this article we will go over all the raids added during this period, highlighting important factors about them, including phases, size, notable loot, lockouts, and attunement status.

Onyxia's Lair (Phase 1)
Onyxia is a 40-player raid with only one boss:

in all her scaly glory.
Onyxia's Lair was one of the two raids that has been part of the game since its inception. The raid is a short 1 boss raid, but, at the same time, an iconic part of World of Warcraft. The Onyxia encounter is the model for many other dragon encounters to come over the years, with dragon-defining mechanics like

Molten Core (Phase 1)
Molten Core is a 10-boss, 40-player raid located beyond Blackrock Depths in the deepest part of Blackrock Mountain. It is the home of

Molten has been available since World of Warcraft's launch and was the most challenging content in the game until the release of Blackwing Lair. It's not required all players are attuned to the raid by completing

Blackwing Lair (Phase 3)
Blackwing Lair
is a, 8-boss, 40-player raid instance sitting at the very height of Blackrock Spire. It is there in the dark recesses of the mountain's peak that

has begun to unfold the final stages of his plan to destroy Ragnaros once and for all and lead his army to undisputed supremacy over all the races of Azeroth. To this end, he has recently begun efforts to bolster his forces, much as his father Deathwing had attempted to do in ages past.
It's not required all players are attuned to the raid by completing

Zul'Gurub (Phase 4)
Zul'Gurub is the original troll raid, added to the game in patch 1.7 in order to create a step between small dungeon groups and 40-player raids. The raid consists of 10 different bosses, with the final boss being

It's widely regarded as a catch-up raid, with difficulty and mechanics that are more friendly to players and smaller guilds, a lot of great loot to fill in the gaps, and a shorter reset time. It also rewards two of the most coveted mounts, the

Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (Phase 5)
The Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) is a 6-boss, 20-player outdoor raid dungeon located in southern Silithus. It's released after a massive world event called the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj opens it to the entire server.
Like Zul'Gurub, AQ20 is a smaller instance with fewer players, allowing more casual players and guilds to raid with lower numbers. It also offers new ranks of spells for all classes that could be learned only through books.
Notable loot includes many Spell Rank Books,

Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj Overview (AQ20)
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (Phase 5)
Temple of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ40) is a 40-player raid dungeon located in southwestern Silithus. Like AQ20, is also released after a massive world event called the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj opens it to the entire server.
Interestingly enough, AQ40 was one of the first zones where Blizzard started to itemize items correctly for the classes. Previously unwanted stats like strength or agility would find themselves on healing items, or spirit on tanking items, and so on. It was also the first raid to introduce meaningful reputation rewards;

The instance is the final 40-player raid of Classic. It consists of four different wings which, when cleared, grant access to the Frostwyrm Lair, a fifth and final wing. In order of difficulty, the first four wings are Arachnid, Plague, Military, and Construct. However, you can take the first four wings in any order you wish.

I just hope I have the time and a decent guild to run some of these properly. I don't think there's going to be a raid finder easy mode.

I will be curious to see how many guilds can actually complete these raids. I think a number of people might find it much harder to complete. These are 40 man raids not 25. Furthermore the number of drops of each boss are not nearly as high. So it takes much more runs to get your guild geared out.
