The quest to subjugate Iskalder comes from The Bone Witch, who is located in a cave that can be found at 32,42 in the Jotunheim region of Icecrown.

This NPC can be found in the Halls of the Ancestors, the entrance for which is also found in the Jotunheim region of Icecrown at 28,47. You must access the Slumbering Mjordin and click through the gossip text to find the real Iskalder, at which point you use The Bone Witch's Amulet.

The ancinet hero Iskalder is refered to the Greek ancient hero Alexander the Great who conquered all the known world. His name in arabic is Iskander and till nowdays it used to call him like that.

As a little clarification:

Go to the above coordinates, and you'll find yourself in a cave. There are some hostile mobs there; these are not what you want. Keep going down the cave and you'll find Slumbering Mjordin(Neutral). You will want to interact with these like any other NPC. They will have a dialogue option and when you click it they will either turn in to a normal hostile target which you must kill, or Iskalder.

Iskalder is an elite mob, and when you find him you'll get a raid warning saying something along the lines of "You have found him! Now is the time to use the The Bone Witch's Amulet!" He is an elite, but he wont do too much damage to you before the cast goes off.

After this you have to return to the bone witch. 2 helpful (I hope) facts:
1. He will not assist you in combat.
2. He can despawn, but it isn't as easy as I believed from other comments. I got on my flyer and just ran on the ground until something agro'd and then flew up to despawn.

Maybe too much information for a simple quest, but I was a bit confused and that's what this site is for, right?

Make sure you have your Bone Witches Amulet ready. The first one I talked to was him, and he killed me before I could find the amulet in my bags.

It has to be random because I have spent the last half hour circling the area and killing these guys and he still hasn't appeared for me

Took me about 10 tries to get him.

But more to the point, Rogues who were wondering ; Yes you can stealth out of the building with the guy following you, in this case he will not aggro the other mobs. Made getting out that little bit quicker. ^^ (Druids too)

It's a very random choice some people got it first time some people have to pick up a few like myself, i took about 20-30 looks? All of them are random so if you are lucky and get a first choice congratz! :D

i have soloed him with 79 DK but u need to use Icebound fortitude and unbreakable armor (if u are that spec)

To clarify, after finding him you may use your flying mount to return. Stay low and let him keep up. If you do happen to lose him, you do not have to abandon and re-accept quest...just go back to hall and re-awaken until he spawns again (as I did).

is this quest bugged because i brought him back to the bone witches cave but hes just standing at the opening to it and nothings happening and i cant turn the quest in

To Stealthies:

Since he's a non-combat companion, you can simply stealth back to the bone witch with him following you and he will not aggro anything.

Any guardian NPC or NPC that follows you will never despawn when mounted. If you fly, they follow you on the ground until you get out of view range, and they will follow you up slopes that are not directly straight. This helped me on this quest, as I just hopped on my mount and flew over the mountains, and he followed me by walking straight up them and coming down as easily.

If you look at the picture of him you will easily be able to identify him from the other guys. He has two lock of BROWN hair tied in front, he's wearing a shirt, and has spikes on his shoulders. I got him on my first try. https://www.wowhead.com/cata/npc=30884#screenshots:id=99155

Iskaldir is indeed an ancient hero. He can run as fast as an epic mount, through rivers, mountains and walls, without even slowing down!

A really nice speedup-tip for hunters:

You can wake several Mjordins up at the same time, simply by sending your pet on the 1st, sleeping the 2nd, (if you have Wyvern Sting from the survival tree, if not, screw #2), and freeze-trap the 3rd.
If any of these three turn out to be Iskalder, use the charm and get out of there, since the ones NOT being Iskalder despawn. (After a short while)
Really speeds up the search, at least it did for me! :>

EDIT: Figured that if you're lucky and the one you spawn the trap in front of is Iskalder, he gets frozen while you charm him, leaving you out of harms way :)

I have experienced a bug with this quest several times. I find him, subdue him then bring him back to the bone witch's cave but he just disappears when he get near her and the quest objective doesn't complete. Looks like I'll have one less quest slot from now on:(

What an UTTER load of rubbish we have above. History lessons. Lectures in Norse mythology. Self-agrandissement PARTICULARLY. The same old "HOW I I I I I (me) did it)". Hardly anything about how to actually complete the quest. OK, so I have the Subdued Iskander in tow ...... SO NOW WHAT, IDIOTS? Why can't any of you (except a couple guys whose comments have not been +'d up .... WHY?) say clearly how to lead the guy back to the Bone Witch WITHOUT losing him? Jesus ...... so many words of self-praise ....... so FEW words that help others.

I have farmed the sleeping vrykul in the walls for almost an hour and not ONCE had him come up....SO INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING!

EDIT - Just found him. Took me 1 hour and 5 min of farming the entire Hall to get him to appear. I have no idea why this happened, but it did.

Right, I found very few of the comments on this page helpful, so here's my very simple input.

I had the same problem. First time it took me a while to find him and then he de-spawned when I tried to fly back. Following a comment below I waited outside the cave, but he did not appear beside me.

I dropped the quest, took it back up again and went to find him once more. Found him very quickly this time and I WALKED back to the Witch.
No problems. Handed in fine.

My advice would be not to bother using a mount at all. It doesn't take long to walk back to the witch.(##RESPBREAK##)16##DELIM##Gontier##DELIM##

So I thought I would add my comment since I noticed a few people had the same problem as me but didn't notice any responses to them. Maybe this will help.

Simply put, you do everything in the quest right, bring Iskalder back to the Bone Witch, and he disappears as soon as you get to her, doesn't come back, and you are unable to turn in the quest.

I did this eight times on my hunter. I tried it with pet, without a pet, mounted, dismounted, after abandoning and re-taking the quest, after /reloading, after disabling all my addons, after exiting the game and signing back in...everything I could think of. Almost wrote a note to Blizz asking what was up. Decided to wait until after server reset and try again.

After server reset it worked the first try.

Hope that helps. Not sure what was up with that but...nine tries later that lousy Iskalder finally made it back to the Bone Witch. Then I got to kill him on the next quest...VERY satisfying!

If you're having the same problem I did, try coming back the next day.

...Or you can get out of the raid group you're in. Actually, that might be faster. /facepalm

Absolutely horrid quest. Took over 50 kills to find him, then he despawned as I flew back to the bone witch. Had to go back and do it all over again. This time I walked back to the bone witch instead of flying, to make sure he didn't despawn!
