In every way that matters this is a completely ordinary weapon for the level. Statwise there is absolutely nothing special about it, other than the fact that it's slower than average.

The Black Pearl makes this expensive to construct, and to make matters worse it's a main-hand only weapon. This seriously limits this item's appeal.

The Blue Glittering Axe is arguably a handier weapon, and most people can afford to wait until they acquire a Shatterer at level 42.

In short skip this one unless you need it to fulfill other quest requirements.

Thanks mate. Looking at 'All" the data given shows that this can be "trained" by a "Tainer" :-)...

So, wait til you have level 230 BS and then go to BB trainer.

P.S if you trained at BB with the Master BS already, you would have the list of itmes he trains and what level he trains them at :-)

Brikk Keencraft in Booty Bay teaches Big Black Mace at BS 230, for 1.5g

Getting to him is easy: when you enter BB through the tunnel, take an immediate left at the top. He's inside that building by the forge.

The goblin dude in BB aint an expert blacksmith he's a master blacksmith. experts are those under artiants remmember? Master is the highest rank of a proffecion and only NPCs can have it...

Here it is....

Get up to skill lvl 200, go to Booty Bay and speak to the MASTER blacksmith who can train you in ARTISAN for 5g, you will then see that you can make the Big Black Bloody Mace when you hit 230.

This is not the most confusing of quests people.....

Ragetek was the only one who included complete information on this topic, so...after following his rather detailed information (which was accurate to the T), I will summarize the facts and misconceptions:

1. You cannot scribe this recipe from anyone BUT the Master Blacksmith in Booty Bay. The pattern does not seem to exist anywhere else -- besides, why wait for a drop?
2. The skill to get this mace pattern is 230...but you max out at 225 until you train (and pay 5 freakin' gold for it :)
3. Once you get your training, you have to grind out the last 5 points, then go back and train again to get the mace pattern (and a couple others).
4. I do not know when you can go train Artisan, but I didn't know I could get the weaponsmith/armorsmith choice until around 215 or so (no "!" indication or anything...I sorta just decided to look after I found the same situation with my engineer).
5. For the weaponsmith quest, the only pattern I found in the AH was Moonsteel Broadsword.

Now, having said all that...anyone who posted here who has not personally done this, shame on you for speculating. If you don't have first-hand information, don't post. You'll have your chance to put your name up in lights later in life. And no, "first-hand" information doesn't mean you were the first to discover it, but rather you've actually done it and seen it for yourself.

Thottbot (and other sites) are great for finding out information that you might not be able to get to on your own (or, more importantly, too freakin' lazy to figure it out); however, the information posted here is usually taken as "gospel" and often times the original creator of the information/walkthrough, etc. was a complete flipping idiot.

Just learn to go past 225 blacksmitthing from Master Blacksmith in Booty bay, i have to learn to 230 before i can make Big Black mace so i will have to come back. Go to booty bay (not flying)
then take your first left, its the second shop, you will find Brikk Keencrat (Master Blacksmith) he will take you all the way to 300.

i thought that goblin macecrafter in the dock building had the plans you know the ones you have to wait for to spawn in his buy window..
but no its that goblin blacksmith who teaches you blacksmithing 300 in that hut to the left of the entrance
that weaponsmith quest could of hinted the locations of these npc's but noooo

The Mace is needed for the Weaponsmith Mission.

To get an option to start the specialization (Armor or Weapon) you need to be level 200.

Weasponsmith later have to choose between 3 other specializations(Sword, Axe or Mace)
Look up Thottbot to see what weapons you want and find the specialization to make sure you can make it.

Some weapons and Armor and BIND ON PICKUP, or bonded to you once made, so be careful if you think you can make a mint selling that Purple hammer, that is BOP.

The skills needed to finish this weaponsmith mission are 230BS, limited by the BIG BLACK MACE skill requirement (If you make everything yourself).

You can buy this from someone else to finish the mission if you are rich and want to save time. He wants you to supply the item, not necessarily make it.

Update: Prviously you could not unlearn a specialization, even if you dropped the skill and started from '0'. Now you can buy your way out, like with talents, but it costs a lot, depends on your level and the skill. All explained in wowwiki. This is a big change from before.

My BS skill is 260, i came to booty bay to get the recipse, ive checked the whole town and no one is selling it, any1 giv a reason why?

plus is it possible to get some1 else to make the mace FOR you, and hav it still count for the weaponsmith quest?

The Master blacksmith is the only one who will train you to make the Big Black Mace. Some people say that it's a spawn item, so try again in a few minutes. I've also heard people say that it's not necessary to actually make them yourself, as long as you acquire the items. Again, I cannot personally verify either of these things, but I thought it may help you out.

You can go to thrallmar/honor hold and learn 225-300 at the grandmaster blacksmith there. same thing happend to me

1. Massive Iron Axe recipe is obtained from Jaquilina Dramet in the Nesingway Expedition Camp in Stranglethornvale (aka "STV"; northern part; away from booty). She keeps only 1 copy so if it's sold, you will have to wait 15 to 20 minutes for it to re-appear. Check the Auction House (AH) if you can't wait and have about 2G's to spend.

2. You will also have to learn the recipe of "Big Black Mace" from the Master Blacksmith Trainer in Booty Bay (Stranglethornvale). The trainer is above the armorsmith (2nd level). You need to have 230xp as a Blacksmith to train and about 1.5G's.

This has changed, I followed the advice on the page and found that I already had Artisan BS AND the Big Black Mace recipe. I learned all my skills from the trainer in IF at The Great Forge.

I'm lvl 70 Paladin, and 2 days ago i decided to level blacksmithing.
I'm up to lvl 230 now, i've made all the required weapons for the weaponsmith quest except the "Big Black Mace".

I just can't seem to get the pattern anywhere.
First i checked the trainer in Booty Bay, he nothing to train me.
Went to SW, nothing. IF, all the npc's around the Great Forge area also had nothing.

?

I was able to buy 1 "Big Black Mace" off the auction house, but i need a second for my quest.

Update for this post, blizzard now allows you to learn this at the trainer in IF, so you dont need to go all the way to BB to learn this.

What level should my skill be? Im at like 225 and I can't find the plans anywhere. Supposedly BB, and sometimes GG weaponsmith. I make frequent runs but I never see it =(

To get the plans for the big black mace you must reach a high enough smithing skill and visit the blacksmithing area in Booty Bay, once of the gobbies will teach you how to make it.
