This is a wonderful tanking armor, for both paladins and warriors. In addition, protection paladins can put this to great use when "AoE Grinding" (grind multiple mobs at the same time). While the 3% is not all that great, it's multiplied by the number of mobs hitting you (not mathematically correct, but you get the point), which means you see procs quite regulary while tanking.

Actually foxrings, a good pally (mine is protection spec) can take on a mob of 3, 4 or slightly more, of same level or a bit higher, and still have no trouble.

Let's analyze the proc of this item a bit.

Average heal from a proc = (60+100)/2 = 80
Chance to proc = 3%
Average healing received per hit taken = 80 * 3% = 2.4

Hence, the proc on this is the same as reducing the damage taken from all melee hits by 2.4. Admittedly this can add up if you're a tankadin grinding, but if that's the case, you can already heal yourself. Judgement of Light procs will heal you way more than this ever will.

I just got this on my 44 pali...of course the first thing i do is run vc(again). So the proc is chance on hit so this may not confuse anyone..you must be hit..taken dmg...so for so on..this does not include a block...so at 44 i block bout 50% of the hits taken so the proc sucked...imo dont use this if your going to run an instance thinking this will help keep you alive..depending on the lvl of the instance and your lvl and chance to block this may or may not help...BUT procs amazingly in hinterlands when fighting 6-8 mobs of trolls along with JoL/SoL this is awsome...keeps the jaws of the horde dropped long enuf for me to kill em ;)

It's available if you already had it before 4.0 released. I'm currently looking at it on my Paladin and I can make it and the gauntlets since I spent the time in Wrath to get my armorsmithing and all the patterns.

Ask the blacksmiths on your server if they have the pattern. If no one does, then you are out of luck. If you are on Haomarush, you know there is at least one Paladin that has it. ^_^

The reduction in armor isn't a big deal. Fighting a lot of small non elite mobs will see this procing a lot, and combined with the underrated +25 absorb enchant its pretty bad ass for the level. Definitely worth buying for around 35 gold

It procs almost every fight, and if its a mob that hits fast, it does sometimes twice. I got it enchanged for +3 all stats. Add that up with my truesilver champion holy shild, and i got a lot of protection.

I agree with the concensus that this breastplate's armor level is a bit too low for what it is. That being said, I've been extremely satisfied with mine and I don't plan on replacing it anytime soon. As a warrior, when soloing that 3% chance to heal has made the difference between close victory and death more than a few times.

It's too bad that the materials required to make this breastplate border on ridiculous, given the level.

I'm a warrior and I use this armor because I consider it better then the Heavy Mithril for the following reason. At the level required to use it, chances are you are going to get hit at least 33 times fighting an equal level mob. This means you can safely assume it is going to proc during each fight. Even if it heals the minimum(60) that is still twice the hit points you lost by giving up the increased stamina(3, which equals 30 hit points).

As far as the armor difference, it's negligible. You're losing 17 points of armor. At level 48, I have almost 5000 armor. That 17 points is about .1% of damage reduction.

For a paladin, who has access to healing much easier than a warrior, it may be a different story, but I would cock an eyebrow at any warrior who chose heavy mithril over this.

well i just wanted to say that i use this armro and it is veary nice! rogues are getting used to use sprint and run away when they see that there superfast attacks healme and they take a punch from a critical overpower... and when fighting mobs that thing saved my ass more then once!
yes the mats are insane but i bought mine at auction house for 15 gold... =P
im skinner and miner so money isnt much of a problem!

I Have been debating over 2 chest pieces now that I have turned 44. I have Gothic Plate Armor of the Bear that is 471 AC and also give +14 to Stamina and Strength. And I also have the Truesilver breastplate and I would rather only soulbind one. As a tank the strength is important and I guess stamina is too but not to concerned with stamina. The 3% healing is very attractive and most of you have it all wrong with your calculations. This piece has a 3% chance to heal after EVERY mele attack hmmmm it seems to me that when I go to an instance and tank for my group im getting hit THOUSANDS of times. 4-6 mobs on me every fight and taking wacks like a punching bag. I think this would be benificial to have a chance to heal on EVERY hit even if it is only 3%. I am really debating about teaming this up with the Crusader enchant to 1h sword. I would think this would be a great set up till level 50 but have no freeking idea.

"Considering that at this level you'll get hit for 100 or so damage" if "this level" is reffering to the lvl of the chestpiece at lvl 44 there is no way you will be getting hit for 100 or so damage - my warrior is lvl 54 with most the imperial plate and the blackrock champions (lvl 56 with 2h axe) are hitting me for that damage when im useing 1h axe and shield (templar shield of something - i cant for the life of me remember what) and im getting worried.

Even at my lvl im considering this, as it is possibly going in2 my built in priest combo:

If I combined at least 6 pieces of valor (what you need for the healing bonus of "Chance on melee attack to heal you for 88 to 132")
with Arcanite champion (2h sword, 3.00 speed same dps as destiny 53.8 and a proc 2 heal for 270-450 damage and 120 strength increase for 30 secs)

also enchanted with crusader (often when attacking in melee it heals for 75 to 125 and increases Strength by 100 for 15 sec.),

the trinket "darkmoon card: heroism" (Passive: Sometimes heals bearer of 120 to 180 damage when damaging an enemy in melee)

and the trinket "Lifestone" (Binds when equipped Requires Level 51 Use: Restores 300 to 700 health. Passive: Restores 10 health every 5 sec).

this is a total of 553-887 health from proc healings + the 10 health every 5 secs and 300-700 use heal. Of course this is not going to all proc in battle and the lifestone wont have always cooled down.

However, i will probably be getting 2-3 heals in each battle if the mob is tough or elite, and against really tough mobs the extra heals woud prolong the battle meaning more heals meaning more time and so on. there would also be a potential strength increase of 220 which is one hell of a lot.
If anyone could find out the percentage of each items heal proc and strength proc and maybe work out how much heals i would be getting on average each battle of maybe 50 seconds to 1 min if possible that would be great. also if someone could find out the cooldown on lifestones healing use effect that would be good too.

I see some people saying that this isn't that good, and it is situational. But something I haven't seen mentioned is that the 2.4hp it heals per hit on average is a bit different than stoneskin or other things that lower damage taken. Those affects happen before damage mitigation. With ok armor for your level you'll have about 50% mitigation. So you can kinda knock off about 5 damage everytime your hit and for some mobs that is considerable.

I have one sitting in the bank, with +2 stats already on it (39 holy pally, thinking about branching into prot).

However, thatnks to the nifty new Armory Upgrades feature, I found a much, much better alternative -

the Warforged Chestpiece

Close to IF for the questing; good exp; chances for extra drops. Go by yourself with a high-level protector, or grab up a group or 3 from city chat - tell them if they are level 40, for 30 minutes work, they can grab a level 57 quest reward items.

ALL the quest rewards are waaaay overpowered for level 40 - there are leather, mail, and plate chest pieces, as well as a very well-balanced caster necklace. (my rogue has the chest now, with +6 stats - a perfect match for basilisk leggings)

+6 stats enchant on the WfCp, and I won't be looking at a chestpiece again until I get to Outlands and grab my questing-based gear upgrades.

In our guild, we make this a 'grad' present of sorts.

This isn't really a warrior piece... this thing is perhaps the best pre-outlands prot pally AoE grinding chest in the game. Had one on my last pally but this time around I'm about to hit 44 on my new one but started fresh on the server so I can't afford this this time. Bummer.

lol was looking on the AH for this for my tankadin since he was 43 and well finally i found as cheap as it seemed to get nowadays
being 29g. since its BoE i sent it to my enchanter to get a lesser absorbtion(very underrated enchant) then i just wanted to test it so i went to the deadmines and it makes it alot easier. the normal mobs hit for mabye 6dmg and that could proc both this and the absorbtion enchant so yes this is very sweet as a tankadin.

36 prot aoeing paladin here. With reconing talent, spikes on the shield, hopefully flurry axe with crusader when I reach lvl42, this piece at lvl44, buffs that gives hp, and block dmg, debuffs to the enemy that gives hp..this is a good addition to a prot paladin.

I was just in SM lib, I healed 19% of all the healing in there, and I never healed myself. All the hp I heal was from those buffs/debuffs that gives hp when I do/get dmg. I tanked.

This piece of armor is worth its weight in gold. And the Argent Defender er can get at lvl60, will also be a very good addition.

Are you planning Prot AoE paladin from lvl32 and up, then plan to get this, and scout AH for flurry axe. Reconing talent gives extra attacks, so do the flurry axe, they do stack, so sometimes you get 3 white attacks in one. The debuff you can give your enemies procs 50% of the time, so faster weapon=more procs.

Get a fast weapon, get this chest piece. Go crazy.

Had been looking forward to getting this chestpiece for my level 45 Prot pala - I finally ended up leveling Smithing on an alt, creating and posting it over.

I've been using it now for the last 2 weeks but have been disappointed with the heal returns - What I mean is that I could frequently see the green heal numbers every time it proc'd but it didn't seemed to be benefiting her during tanking.
Heres the shock bit - I decided to test it for 15 mins today at RFC, to my supprise it's giving my pala absolutly 0 health returns when it procs!. Sure the "90" "84" etc flash over my toon picture from time to time but absolutly no life is being returned to my HP level :/
I have no idea whether this is specific to B-elf female palas or maybe the result of a recent patch, specific auras, buffs..
Would be nice is someone could test and confirm this / maybe suggest the cause.

after using this on my ret pally and watching recount, it shows up as 'Self healing' and has proc'd for as low as 37 and as high as 99. Of the 35 procs, 2 were crits but did not exceed 98. with this data, i assume the heals are based on ur individual lvl and receive diminishing returns for players at higher lvl much like the Bangle of Endless Blessings at lvl 80. although i can't confirm this 100%

Just made this expensive piece of equipment. 24 Truesilver bars! I crafted it because I like Pentor to wear blue stuff and I need to up my BSing BUT Im not sure its worth the price. It proced twice in 3 fights for me healing for 98 each time or something but to make this worth it it should be level 40 (like the guantlets). The heavy mithril plate has +3 stamina on it and is only 16 mithril AND is lvl 40. It might be more useful when fightinh hordes of lower level mobs .. as you would get hit a tonne more. For now... seems not worth it->heavy mithril or ornate mithril better for price point.

Make this only if you want something to brag about...it just doesn't compare to the much much easier to make Heavy Mithril Breastplate with the cruddy proc rate.

Of course it's expensive if you BUY the materials; it costs litte or nothing if you farm them yourself.

This is a good BP. I get one or two heals a battle out of it. but I really don't care about that part of it. As for it being "easy to find better armor," that's far from the truth. It might be easy to BUY better armour but finding it is sheer great luck. Good breastplates don't drop everywhere. Count your lucky stars if you find one better than this without paying for it.

For my opinion , this chest is awesome for tanking at it's level :)
You can enchant it with 150 or 100 hp :D and 3% chance when struck in combat is alot as i know :D this chest is good only for tanking :D

This thing is the ulimate tanking chestpiece for levels 44-55, maybe even beyond. I got mine for 10g on the AH and bought it only reluctantly. However on a recent trek into Blackrock Depths someone posted the healing done by all party members. This thing, combined with my Lifeblood amulet accounted for 6% of all healing. 6% healing done by the tank? Thats insane. You gotta get this, totally worth the 30g you might have to pay for it.

"3% chance to heal" doesn't seem like much until you realize that when you're tanking and holding aggro for 4+ NPCs and getting hit 5x a second, it really helps.

This is such a waste of truesilver. Not only does it only have a 3% chance of healing you, but the heals barely make a difference. 60-100? Come on now. It's also extremely hard to sell. I tried to auction it for a week straight, lowing the price from 42g (undercutting others that were posted at the time) to 30g. Never sold it, only good it did me was bumping my blacksmithing skill up one notch.

Materials cost is about 4 times the cost of the breastplate itself. Healing chance is extremely low - I have seen it heal me once in two days I was wearing this thing. Armor rating is decent for the level (44), but in 2-4 levels it is easy to find better armor.

If you want to make some money, waste truesilver on gauntlets instead.
