This is one of the 4 drake mounts new in cataclysm. These come from:

Reins the Drake of the West Wind - Exalted with Tol Barad (Hellscream's Reach or Baradin's Warders)
Reins of the Drake of the South Wind - Rare drop from Al'Akir (raid boss)
Reins of the Drake of the North Wind - Rare drop from Altarius in Vortex Pinnacle
Reins of the Drake of the East Wind - Reward from Glory of the Cataclysm Raider

Given the fact that it shows it drops from 4 versions of Al'Akir, and also given responses of other people, I think we can say it drops from all of the versions of Al'Akir:

10-Man Normal Al'Akir
10-Man Heroic Al'Akir
25-Man Normal Al'Akir
25-Man Heroic Al'Akir

My guild downed him Just tonight. The drake dropped. 1% drop rate, and it's a bit darker than the Drake of the North wind which I have, and it's more "electric blue" than It, also. I also believe it's NOT a 100% drop rate off the heroic version of this boss.

It is definitely more vibrant than the Drake of the North Wind, but only slightly. I wish it was more of a difference since I would hope it would be more rare (being from Al'Akir instead of a heroic). Won this today from Al'Akir (regular 10man) and sat next to a Drake of the North Wind and if I wasn't right next to it, I wouldn't notice a difference.

its the boss-or add called heart of wind..like it says right there on this page..even a link at top to the boss. its a 1.5 drop rate. anyone have a clue if u can get on reg?

According to the database, it does indeed have a higher drop rate on 25 man to compensate for the reduced chance of winning the roll. Currently, it's listed as a 1% drop rate on 10 man, and 3% on 25 man (though of course, there's quite a low quantity of data for 25 man Al'akir loot, which means this isn't a totally accurate deduction).

I got this mount yesterday and must say it looks pretty good. Varcos, Daggerspine-US. It could be a bit more distinctive in appearance for my tastes, but overall a good looking drake. Dropped on Normal 10man Alakir. Was only our 10th or so kill, so i feel very lucky knowing it is a 1% drop rate. Good luck to everyone trying to get this.

IMO anyone who helped get the kill deserves a fair shot at the mount.

I would like to see you saying that if you did ICC 25 HC as a leader in a pug, over and over, for like a year, every week, spending time and effort for something that probably won't drop, until it finally drops and someone who was dead the intire fight, wins the mount.

This situation didnt occur to me, but losing something that you took effort and time to make happen, so a noob could win it with dumb luck, itsn't something that I find acceptable...

If you have a derp who dies multiple times then you should kick him. Else, he went and could roll fair and square, unless you set the loot rules earlier being a leader. He still helped you clear something that you would not have done had he not been there.

And I say this as a pug leader, I have seen many people far worse than me who have screwed up multiple times in my runs, and I still give them loot that I might think I "deserve" far over him.

Strangely, when you look at Al'Akir's loot for each difficulty/raid size, this is not shown as loot from 10m Heroic, even though we all know it does.
