Eventually when the next raid tier comes out, these will go down. It's just a different way for Blizz to release the best enchants but make it difficult for you to obtain them, like epic gems. They're there if you *really* want them, but you probably shouldn't get them until you're farming hard modes or until 4.1/4.2.

another way to get crystals:

if you don't care about pvp items and reach the cap of 1250 conquest points each week (may be higher for you) you can buy one of the epics that cost 1250 conquest points (ring etc) and then disenchant that. If your server has a good sell price thats 2k each week, which isn't much but its nice "pocket money".

Unfortunately, there are now at least 2 tailoring recipes that apparently also DE into this crystal, if wowhead's DE table is to be believed.

now that alchy stones are no longer d/e-able, i've found engineering helms to be the cheapest way to obtain these on my server. i can craft the helm for around 1.2k and sell it for 3k

even less if you have mining on an alt and can farm the ore/volatiles

How to get Maelstrom's by DE, cheapest way:

PvP gear not hard to get, a few arenas + daily BG's should give 1-2 crystals a week, for a few hours work. Drops in BH aswell.

DE engineering helm, seems the least expensive epic to make for DE.

Buy Relics for 700VP each.

Note:
All above are soulbound and you must be an enchanter to DE :)

6x Handful of Obsidium Bolts = 4 Obsidium Bars on average = 20-30g

6x Eletrified Ether = 4,8 Volatile Air on average = 95-120g

2x Ocean Sapphire or Dream Emerald = about 40-50g

3x Hardened Elementium Bar = 30 Elementium Bars + 12 Volatile Earth = 150-180g + 120-180g = 270-360g

1x Truegold = 700-800g. Maybe 600g, if you get the materials very very cheap and find someone who's transmuting nearly for free. But I prefer buying it for 700g, because it takes too much time.

= 1125-1360g on my realm
Leather wearers pay a little bit less, because they only need 2 Hardened Elementium. Plate wearers pay a little bit more, because they need Inferno Rubys instead of Dream Emerald or Ocean Sapphire. But it's still a profitable way, to get rid of Chaos Orbs.

First of all, you'll need Chaos Orbs. Running heroics only for Chaos Orbs is not very profitable. There will be other people, who roll on the orbs. You can get more money per hour, if you farm something else. It's just a good way to get rid of Chaos Orbs under special circumstances.

This leads to the second point. You have to be an engineer AND an enchanter. If you don't have any of this professions, you'll need about 15-20 Chaos Orbs to pay the costs for changing your professions. And this will take some time. Maelstrom Crystals at the current state make Enchanting even less attractive for profit making, than before. Few enchants I have made using these I sold with a loss, so be careful.

Once the valor point items are converted to justice points in the next content patch, you'll probably see a steady stream of these from enchanters DEing the 700 point relics (assuming they remain at 700 points when converted to justice points, if not, well......too bad I guess)

Edit: ZA/ZG drop epics in the next patch, so there will be a good supply of maelstorms then.

As of March 26 (PTR build 4.1.0.13793) these cost 3750 Justice Points from 塔爾瑞克·直截 or for 3750 Honor Points from 艾德蘭·赫辛. Both NPCs are located in Stormwind in the SI:7 area.

The prices of end-game enchants will plummet as well as these when 4.1 comes out, since every enchanter can now afford to buy Maelstroms, either with jp or from the auction house. Better start diversifying so you can still rake in profits if you rely on enchanting as your only source of income.

If the prices for the current Valor Point rewards aren´t modified when they can be bought with Justice Points in 4.2, you´ll be able to "buy" these crystals for 1250 Justice Points by buying the BoE wrists and having those disenchanted.
You'll also be able to cash in on the Bountiful Bags guild perk for extra crystals. Assuming the guild perk has a 15% chance to proc another crystal, you can buy 3.45 times more crystals per Justice Point when 4.2 hits.

Enchanters themselves can buy the 700 ~~Valor~~ Justice Point relics and disenchant those, giving them a 6.2 times more crystals per Justice Point in 4.2 with the guild perk.

Thanks to the new Za/Zg instances, I can get anywhere between 2 to 3 crystals a run if I'm lucky, but its annoying when people kick you from a group cause you needed the crystal, last I checked, everyone needs those crystals for their enchants.

I would have to say the easiest way to obtain these for a caster enchanter (myself) would be to buy the current wands listed from Honor Points vendor and Justice Points vendor, which are:

Scorchvine Wand 700 JP
Trail of Embers 700 JP
Ruthless Gladiator's Baton of Light 700 HP
Ruthless Gladiator's Touch of Defeat 700 HP

Do keep in mind, in order to purchase the PvP wands... you must have already obtained 7,250 honor points for the season. About 2-3 PvP BG victories should be able to net you a crystal, possible one TB can as well with the quest.

Easiest ways I've found in 4.3

Run Random BG-s. You're going to get your achievments, honorable kills for Title and skill.
700 honor points= epic wand. Buy it. DE it for 1-2 Maelstrom Crystals.
If you're more of a PvE type then It's going to take longer to get 700 Honor Points, but you can get your wands the same way.

Or If you're a multiboxer= Run ZA/ZG for easy Maelstroms.
With the current state in BG-s on my server (Tarren Mill) I'm getting about 1-2 (depends on the luck) an hour.

From the servers i've checked (Auchindoun, Talnivarr and Jaedenar) on horde side the prices has been jumping around between 120g- 190g.

So, if you're selling them, save them until they're at like 175g :D.
It will be a good profit in the end, belive me.

I've found that queueing for random Hour of Twighlights as Tank and as an Enchanter yields lots of these. Instant pops in queue (if not i rarely wait more than 5 min) and all of the boss drops with d/e into one or more Crystals. I ran them last night while i was gearing my tank and cleaned out my bags this afternoon to find i had 9 of these puppies. Safe to say i think in 2-3 hours of randoms youll have 5 or more. Not to mention these dungeons are easy as hell and really fast to run. I think if you're a Enchanter and a Tank this is your best bet.

3-4 BG wins an hour can yield 2-6 Maelstrom crystal from disenchanting wands (700 Honor EA). Let's say you bought two, that's 400-1200(@200 EA) gold an hour from farming battlegrounds. Not only are you capable of making that much gold, but earning Honorable Kills while you're doing it. Go PvP!

On the Firetree server, the price of these swings wildly... One day it was 400G for 1, the next day I got 20 for 50G. This is perfect for spectating (buying when the price is low, then selling it again when the price gets higher)
