My green quest reward has more AP, plus a good 30-40 agility on it... stam and int are nice, is this horrible lack of damage really worth it? Even with Combat Exp. and Careful Aim, it's going to take some nice gems to make this piece worth wearing, as far as I am concerned.

compared to T3 CS:

-4 stam
-20 agi
+10 int (13 with sockets)
+2 crit
+4mp5

20 agi is 20ap and 0.50% crit @ 70.

to gain that back you could use: Bold Ornate Ruby (20ap) and Smooth Ornate Dawnstone (10 crit.. 10+2 = 12, i think htats 0.50%)

still lose 4stam.. but keep the ap/crit even and gain +4mp5 and 13int.

but those gems would cost you something like 56k honor :(

Beast Lord shoulders have slightly less crit for significantly more attack power and more mana regeneration, with an arguably better 2-set bonus (feign death doesn't resist THAT much, and 5% isn't a lot -- but having a 4 second cooldown on traps enables you to quad-and-quint-trap mobs if need be, and CC is absolutely essential in Heroic instances).

Sadly, the Beast Lord set is, on the whole, better than Demon Stalker -- this is just the most obvious piece.

Comparing Beastmaw to T4:
-25 Armor (Easily made up by the presence of Agility)
+24 Agi
-1 Stam
Same Base Int (T4 has 3 more due to a socket bonus)
-19 Crit rating (~.85% crit chance, in contrast the Agi from Beastmaw gives ~.6% crit in addition to the armor and dodge)
+2 Attack power
+3 Mp5

All in all the T4 looks to be SLIGHTLY nicer with it's 2 sockets, however the way my guild runs DKP is through the 25 mans; Kara is a need before greed environment so i'll pass on these minor-upgrade shoulders to save DKP for more pressing upgrades.

While it is true that the Beastmaw Pauldrons are quite similar in stats it is a FACT that these are some of the sexiest looking shoulder pads in game!

I wont comment on the stats but seen as the clothies (Who we share token drops with) can get some decent tailoring shoulders they might be reluctant to bid on these. Im hoping to pick these up later for 10 DKP and as an Orc hunter i will be 95% happier walking around with these on my shoulders than the ugly Beastmaws. Yes i'm willing to pay for the looks but not totally, the sockets are definitely an advantage in terms of customization. These definitely get my vote.

Quite possibly the worst itemization for hunters, and maybe any class, ever created by Blizzard. Good job skipping the primary base stat bonus entirely!

Back in BC days, we had a "T4 Shoulders" meme for a reason...

4.0.1 Update: Hilariously, Blizzard fixed the T4 shoulders when AP was rolled into Agility. 3+ Years late.

if you consider that the whole set gives you 6 sockets, 2 red 2 blue and 2 yellow, you can boost your stats by +34 agi, +12 sta, +8 hit rate. that's if you're aiming for maximum agi from the gems. x2, x2, x2.

Here is what I came up with (Includes the same Gem Set up) 16AP Red, 8CR Yellow in both as well as the 30AP 10CR enchant from Aldor rep.

T4 shoulders vs. BL shoulders * Heavy MM build.

Converted Agi to the appropriate AP and crit as well as factored in Int to ap from Talent points.

Going from BL to T4 (for this slot).

You:
lose 24 AP
gain 0.13% Crit
gain 69 Armor
gain 15 Stam
lose 1 Mp5
gain 8 Int

Is the extra stam, Int, and 0.13% crit worth 24AP?

I think its 6 one way half a dozen the other. IMHO it's not more or less powerful. Well they look cool and that’s about it.

I don’t think they get buffed in next patch either not 100% but (as per PTR patch notes) they are not T5 level and it appears they did not spend much budget on Armor only +69 over the blue. So it's doubtful they will get better.

I know that it's an entry level raid that they drop from but IMHO it's a very tuff raid. Sure some guilds can OMGWTF pawn but most don’t at first i.e. lots of wipes, repairs, and pots later you get nothing basically.

put 2x16 ap gems in it and you got solid shoulders. the crit makes up for the lack of agi unless you're survival.

for me, the crit is making them attractive at all. since BC it's really hard for a hunter to get a good amount of crit without neglecting the other stats. I like crit and any items that will help increasing the critrate. after all you kinda need crit to do good damage with mortal shots (if you don't have mortal shots skilled, delete your hunter right now). personally I'm aiming for above 25% unbuffed.

yay just got these kinda sad no agility but w/e hmm i realy wanted more crit from these so i threw a 16 ap gem and wicked living topaz or w/e wich is 4 crit and 8 ap very nice now at 2300ap unbuffed and 23.40crit unbuffed 5500 armor marks hunter god do i kick ass

A very well specced marks hunter can hit 2300 if they have some gear from heroics and kara / gruuls.
But I'm talkin about adding in Aspect of the Hawk and Trueshot and nothing else.

These are truly awful, seriously.

The arena ones are infinitely better. So much so that it's insulting. Better not butt@#$% us again re: Zul'Aman vs Season 3

I like the green glow, but if say the Tier 4 chestpiece were to drop to put me full epic, then I would go back to beastlord mantle in situations where I wanted the trap bonus.

Which reminds me - suckiest set bonus ever. Even 1 sec reduced CD on concussive is better than imp fd. Seriously, Why not give us somethig useful like reduced misdirection cooldown

For a dwarf hunter most tiers look really ...gay... on me exept this tier yet the boots look cheesy.

so im going to get this tier but get a PvP glove and maybe shoulders of Grand Marshal to make me look different

I think doing PvP pays off after a while yet it takes along time but GREAT armor.

Raids are somewhat faster and give good armor such as this,

and Instances are fun yet boring after doing it so many times like lvl 32-43s do Scarlet Monestary

.9% crit, +3 int and 2 gem slots don't make up for the 3mp5, 2ap (26ap realistically counting agi bonus) and the 24agi itself.
