I had most of the enchanting mats (had to buy some since i decided to clean my bank a few days before) and ended up paying almost 250g for this thing (the runed arcanite rod was the most expensive). Could make it less expensive if u can get the BS and Alchemy items (arcanite bar) without fees and if u have all enchanting mats. Even having a main paying everything on background it hurts a bit

You can save money on mats by simply killing Bael'Gar in Blackrock Depths for Large Brilliant Shards (or kill him in combination with Lord Incendius. I did the former because I only needed 3 shards, so the reset limit was not a prob for me). As soon as you enter the instance, go through the locked gate on the left and run on down til you reach the Dark Iron Highway (when you reach a wall). Hang another left, avoiding the mobs, and you're there. He drops blues that DE into large brilliant shards. You need the Shadowforge Key to do this, but even if you don't have it, doing the quest for said key is well worth it. I got 5 shards just obtaining the key (including one killing Bael'Gar on the way out), then ran him 3 more times. You need 8 total in order to create the Runed Arcanite Rod for this as well, if you don't have it already.

I did this on my 80 pally, took me just under 2 minutes to run to him, kill him and run back out. You can get all your shards in about 10 mins as opposed to 10 per shard.

Also, when you enter the Ring of Law (the arena event), make sure you're standing in the ring when you kill Ok'Thor the breaker, not in the jail cells. After he dies, both the jail cell gates will close, opening the gate you entered from and opening the other gate. I killed him near the gate on the wrong side and found myself locked in, and needed someone to join my party so I could leave to get unstuck without hearthing back to Dalaran.

You can also run the highest old world dungeons (Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms, NOT Outlands) for the Greater Eternal Essences. Alternatively, if you have access to tailoring, you can DE them from runecloth shoulders or headbands. I'd recommend this route, as you can gather it from Hellfire Ramparts, which also yields DE mats you can use for further enchanting or for Runed Adamantite/Eternium rods, which you will need for your enchanting sooner or later. You can gather the mats for all these rods at once in Ramparts, and use the leftovers to squeeze levels out of your pre-Northrend recipes.

The prices for the ingredients on my server are totally 100% out of control. We are talking like 75 gold per large brilliant shard.

If you happen to be an tailor/enchanter I had great luck DE'ing the RUNECLOTH HEADBANDS, while not a sure thing they yielded both the Large shard and essence. I still skilled off them as a green at 330 tailoring. So if it helps at all make those.

Remember guys that you can make this item using your old Runed Arcanite Rod. After one of the patches, Blizz allowed enchanters to recycle their old rods in the fabrication of the next level rod. Your new rod can be used to carry out all lower level enchants...

Just another example of Enchanting (at last) coming of age, with cheaper mats and simpler recipes with better effects.

The guy doesn't have the formula there at Champion's Hall. How often does Blizzard restock the NPC's if they have more than 1 on them? I know that they restore like 1-2 times a day usually.

Yeah, I cant find the recipe at the spots that were suggested either. Ima 330 enchant and I can't even do the enchants for that lvl b/c i dont have this rod. Does anyone know where you can get it?

Try the GM trainer in Scryor's Rise tower, 2nd floor...
Found out I need to make an arcanite rod to make the fel iron one--don't see any other use for the arcanite rod.

This is not a recipe. Johan Barnes (Alliance - Honor Hold) trains you. So look in the "I would like to train" part, not "Let me browse your goods".
Need 300 enchanting to be trained.

He does sell some good stuff so that's worth a look too.

This was learned by you around 300 enchanting. But you don't need it until 325 enchanting. So check your enchanting list closely.
