This will be the new balance spell added in Cataclysm, It's going to be around tier 6-7. Currently in beta it looks like sort of a posion bolt looking cast.

Edit: By looking at the spell tooltip,

You fuse the power of the moon and sun

It looks as if as soon as you get to full lunar and solar power, you would unleash this spell for it's top damage much like a mage's Arcane blast and Arcane missles. Just a speculation.

Question, maybe someone could test this out.

The spell school is listed as (Nature, Arcane). Can the spell be used with Preditory Strikes, instant cast for feral druids? Would be nice to know ferals could do a damage/interupt spell. The spell does have a 15 sec CD.

this spell is as people have pointed out the spell that balance druids get at level 10 then they choose balance. Its quite potent being able to take about 50% of the mobs health in one cast at that level.

This spell is exclusive to the balance spec, so ferals can't get it.

Just saw on MMO,
* Starsurge is now a baseline spell.

Not sure if you need to be in Moonkin form to cast it, but as it states, it is no longer exclusive to Balance.

I can't wait to 'devestate' my enemies!

But all pokes at the grammar aside, this looks like a formidable spell to use in the early stages of Balance, where it's the hardest.

For anyone wondering.

Spellstorm damage is Arcane + Nature damage.

It's quite similiar to Frostfire damage, which is Frost and Fire.

As seen in Cataclysm betas, this is a pretty overpowered ability levels 10-15, it takes about half of the mobs health, while it knocks them down.

You gain this spell at level 10 when you pick the balance talent tree :D
and fluff me does it own ;)
all i can say is .
the low level pvp brackets will be insane with all the new level 10 benefits ^^

At the moment, the only problem I have with it is that its appearance is rather "meh". Almost like a Chaos Bolt with an overload on the glowing.

The knockdown effect might be really good. From the way those effects tend to work, it might be useful as an interrupt.

Similarly to Chaos Bolt in the Wrath beta, interrupting Starsurge interrupts both Nature and Arcane, just like interrupting Chaos Bolt interrupted both Fire and Shadow.

im critting like what 10k with it with starsurge but i know thats isnt good but i have 2 piece pvp healer and 2 piece pvp caser and the rest feral.... still gearing and i mean get full set of caster ill be incredible! love the spell more damage than lavaburst and it can be instant which is better in pvp so you cant be interupted as often and all new druid spells are pro. =]

On low lvl(20), this spell kills almost every 18 and 19 mob in only one hit. Its like a 15sec cd I-win button.

I probably shouldn't post this,
But Starsurge makes druids the new ''ambush'' rogues.

On a semi-twinked Balance druid (Heirlooms, etc) - you can roll through the low level BG's and 1-shot-crit players with Starsurge. Thanks to Catform/Stealth at those levels, you can pick your fights.

If executed properly, you can drop a group of 3 before they got any chance to react.

Sneak to back
-> Starsurge target 1, Moonfire if it isn't dead.
-> Entangling Roots on Target 2.
-> Wrath/Moonfire nuke Target 3.

HoT as needed.

If you want to get your Wrecking Ball, this is your easiest way of getting it.
As an average player, I managed 26-2, 24-0 and 23-1 as my top k/d ratios.

So this spell is losing 20% of it's damage in 4.1? I'm still trying to wrap my head around why this is getting a huge nerf whereas for example, a slew of Mage spells are getting a significant buff.

Question - if interrupted does this lock out nature and arcane spells? or just whichever class is beneficial - ie arcane if my eclipse bar is moving to lunar?

You can cast this as long as one school is not locked arcane or nature.

there is also one more thing that modifies this Item - Druid T13 Balance 4P Bonus (Starsurge) reduces the cd by 5 seconds and increases It's damage by 10%.

erm yes, it's very good. two things to base this upon: first, it's the 4pct13 bonus, and tier bonuses are generally very useful. second, its 15s CD being reduced to 10s means druids can use it 50% more often, and it hits like a truck.

Very good must've been an overstatement because they changed it to add 10% extra damage after i posted this. Taking 5 seconds off of a spell CD that has it's CD reset constantly doesn't seem like that big of a set bonus, that's why it was buffed.
