It can be tricky the first time you do it, spend a few seconds watching the runes before you jump in.

There is no real specific pattern (that I noticed), but what you are looking for are puffs of smoke that appear above a rune, this means its fizzled and wont burst flame on the next pulse.

To start out, watch for one of these to happen nearby then run to it. Stand on it, as the others burst quickly pay attention and look for another rune to puff smoke (rather than burst flame) and run to that one next. Each time a burst occurs, it sends out mini-fireballs that jump to other runes signifying a burst will occur at that spot next.

The key is spotting those puffs of smoke quickly and getting to one quick enough before the next burst. Sometimes you can even stand on the same rune as long as no fireball jumps to it for the next burst. It may take some practice, but as long as you aren't always running to runes on opposite ends of the grid you will do fine.

Once your stack reaches 10, the quest will complete.

There's a way to get up there without a flying mount. Go to 55,14 (Arcane Pinnacle) and there is this blue circle on the ground. If you stand on it long enough, it'll throw you to a ledge. If you follow the ledge around the corner, there's another circle that will then throw you to another cliff. Keep doing this about 6-8 times and you'll be on the top with 5 mages, 3 stones, and a teleporter. From there, click the desired portal and have fun. :)

This is part of a quest chain in which the player aids Kalecgos (the new blue dragon aspect) in finding Azuregos and protecting him from the black dragonflight. It spans much of the land of Azshara and is composed of many quests, several of which are completely original in their concepts.

This stuff is horde only? Lame. There are chieves for it. I went all the way to the top and it won't allow me to use the portal.

Same, been searching for a way to do it or to get involved in the questline.. cant find anything so far (as alliance).

Alliance have two choices:

1) Slowfall/Levitate/Parachute Cloak from Winterspring to where the portal stone takes you
2) Wait until Dec. 7th and fly to where each portal stone takes you

Either way, you cannot use the actual portal stones you just have to go to where they take you and complete the mini game.

Pretty much this exact event was featured in the WC III custom map called Pyramid Escape. My guess would be that that's where it came from.

As of right now - Alliance CAN indeed get to the top of Arcane Pinnacle. The first set of purplish circles can be found on the southern side or the "island" on the surface of the water. Just keep moving to get to the top.

HOWEVER, and this is the horrible however, when you get to the top you can click the different stones and the portal will change colors appropriately... but no matter how many times you run into the portal, you simply won't zone to go to the mini-game.

So yes, as of currently it is BUGGED for Alliance, albeit, doable when Blizzard can get their ducks in a row. I look forward to being able to do this on my Alliance priest when Blizzard fixes it. :P

EDIT: As members of the Alliance, we obviously won't get quests for this, but we can still do the mini-game anyways and get the achievement.

Alliance can do these achievements simply by going to the ledgers where the test's are done.

Each one is shown in the map's on wowhead. Simply goto the ? location & do the tests as normal.

What I found works for me in this part of the insane chain is to follow the dancing blood elf. That is all I did and I completed the quest quick smart.

I did this feat, got the award for it, but Xylen is still greyed out (the ? above him). Clicking on him says something to the effect of "ur not done, get back in there." I've gone back in & done it several more times, but still can't get his okay. I also tried dancing on every square, not dancing, a combo -- no luck. Anyone else experience this or know something I've missed?

You can do this while on a mount. It will make it a lot easier when you move faster.

There are a few things confusing about this quest.

1) The portal to the quest location doesn't work as normal. And the quest text is misleading.
It's not enough to simply click on the Fire Portal Stone.
It also doesn't help running through the big round portal doorway nearby. (Something that often works for similar portals.)
No, you have to right click the stone, then right click the portal.

2) You don't hand in this quest where you pick it up, but instead where you do the quest.
It should be enough to notice the question mark over the Image of Xylem at the fire platform when the quest is complete.
But at least one commenter missed that.

TIPS:
* There's an associated achievement. Even if you complete the quest, you can carry on until you also complete the achievement. (Alliance can only do the achievement, they don't get the quest.)
* As others have said, mount up if you can. I was a little unlucky on my second transition having to go to the other side of the grid. The extra speed helped.
* Zoom your camera as far out as you can to show as much of the grid as possible.
* Try avoid going to the edge of the grid. You'll usually have a shorter distance to move this way.
* Some people advise following the apprentice. It might work, but I have seen them mess up occasionally. And I had no trouble identifying safe spots and getting safe long before the apprentice (who sometimes seemed to follow me).

The Trial of Fire

Complete the Trial of Fire by standing in the fire runes without getting hit by flame for 10 consecutive bursts.

Description

The Trial of Fire... oooh... sounds intimidating, doesn't it? No? Hm. Well I kind of thought so. Firsts are first, you touch the fire crystal and the portal to the trial opens.

To beat this trial, you have to hop around in the fire runes without getting hit by the fire. If you stay unflamed long enough, you win!

There are little signs to help you - fire hopping to its new rune, fizzles when a rune goes cold. You can figure that stuff out if you want. Or just guess! That's what most people do.
