Since it's very likely you will die doing this, you can also corpse-run it: Die, rez on top of the fountain which Kilrathi's screenshot shows: https://www.wowhead.com/cata/screenshot=view&5.9504#14025 and use the Bota Bag. It is channeled like a spell and will get slowed down by you getting hit but it is NOT auto-interrupted like herbing/mining. While you might have a hard time fighting the elementals, dying close enough you can rez on the fountain is fairly easy to do ;-]

If you get the water and die afterwards, If you spirit rez the rez sickness is gone before you make it back to Aqueous.

Easy to solo as a 20 shaman. Just interrupt their lightning bolts/entangling roots with earth shock (right before they finish casting so you spend the least time being beat on) and watch for adds.

I'd also recommend setting your hearth to Blood Watch so you don't have to run all the way back to Aqueous.

Did this at level 20. Died twice, but managed to clear a way to the middle where the fountain was.
Once the bag was full, went ghost wolf form and ran out. Easy :)

A few things to remember when taking on this quest. If you're dying, it's because you're letting them get the big hits in. Stop their casts with your Earth Shock, and only use it when they're casting.

These guys look like they're made of wood, and would thus be hurt by fire, but it doesn't work that way. Flametongue and Fire Shock don't work as well against them as Rockbiter and Earth Shock.

Just keep a Stoneskin totem down, and you should be fine. I went down about 310 hp every fight, so be sure to use some of your quicker heals.

You could also be dying because of the mobs that path. Some are on rather long paths that go through the water. If you want to avoid deaths on this quest, be patient and keep an eye out for them.

The graveyard's close, though, so taking a death or two isn't all that much trouble.

It easy, i just had to kill one mob and he was level 22. There are two mobs that circle the area, one in the water one around the fountain, if you keep an eye out for those two you should be fin. Level 20 shammy by the way.

Stacks well with the https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=1034 - the Ruins of Stardust quest (#3 in the chain) from Pelturas Whitemoon, Astranaar, Ashenvale, Azeroth ;-) Chain starts at Mystra's Point on your way to Astranaar, with https://www.wowhead.com/cata/quest=1010 - Bathran's Hair (BTW the chain is not linked here on www.wowhead.com/cata) . For L20-23 shammy this chain is a very good way of spending your time on your way to the Water Totem.

I died once, but that was just because I ran in without really looking around.

The mobs aren't all that tough, but if you get more than one on you, you're probably going to die. I ran in and managed to get the water, but died trying to escape. Honestly, I just spirit rezzed and took my flight/boat back to Darkshore/Exodar, then flew back to Blood Watch. It took about 10 minutes to make it back to Aqueous, so the resurrection sickness wasn't a big deal, and the 10% durability hit was worth it.

Easy quest, You can pull the elementals one at a time. I did this at level 20 without problems.

True, but you need to know that you'll have to be higher than 20 or else you'll probably just die repeatedly (Stoneclaw Totem doesn't seem to work too well for distracting them while you gather the stardust).

Getting the water was easy enough, though did have 2+ on me within second of ressing at the fountain. After they rooted me I couldn't do anything but wait for them to kill me.

whoever had the idea to put this quest in the middle of 23-24 mobs with entangling roots, &*!@ you.

There're a couple of pats so they aggro from time to time on your totems and it's impossible to get away from them when they root you all the time and AOE a lightning cloud over your head.

just did with my lvl 20 resto shaman with no problems. just pull them 1 by 1. and get the water. use interupt spellcasting whenever its available and lvl 24 mobs are no problem.

that is not a fountain. thats a bird bath at tops.
edit: ghost wolf isnt exactly a huge helper here. what is a huge helper is stoneclaw totem. you are not a druid, you cannot just faceroll ghost wolf to get out of all snares. the best strat is to get close to one of the casters that agroes you, slap a stoneclaw totem at his feet, hit him with a windshock, get the stupid bag filled and get out.

I'd also recommend setting your hearth to Blood Watch so you don't have to run all the way back to Aqueous.

Or...pick up the flight path to blood watch on your way through and fly back.

Not sure if it changed in 3.3.0 or not. The quest text indicated it was on the SAME island, not as far off as the other comments suggested. Sure enough after searching the Wraithscale ruins I found the fountain at 69, 65. It is real close to the boss Naga Lord Xiz. I will include a screenshot.
So don't make the huge trip if you don't need to.

Yep, This quest got seriously nerfed, the fountain is now at 69.48, 65.64 only mobs around are lvl 12-13.

It's now found in the "clean" part of Bloodmyst Isle, so now it's much faster and easier to do this. By the way, the mobs are like lvl 11-13 where the fountain is. Just check the map when you get it and you'll see where it is : )

Just completed this one with a level 20 Elemental Shaman. If you go around the northwestern side and go up to the fountain that way, you can avoid all combat if you're good at your timing.

The quest has been changed! You do not need to go to Ashenvale. The comments that talk about Ashenvale are out of date. The fountain you need to get water from is located at the Wrathscale Lair on Bloodmyst Isle. If you don't have coordinates, just look for "Wrathscale Lair" in the SE corner of Bloodmyst Isle.

TLDR: Don't go to Ashenvale unless you like long, pointless trips and cussing.

Last time I levelled a Shammy you had to go to Ashenvale to get the water for this quest.

I'm levelling a Shammy again, I didn't check here first, assumed it was still the same.

(In all fairness you might want to wander down there anyway as it's a decent place to carry on levelling from about 20.)

The fountain is located at 33,67 in Ashenvale, at Stardust Ruins due south of Atranaar. Lots of Level 21-24 mobs surrounding a lake with a small island in the middle with the fountain. I was only level 20 at the time so rushed in to the fountain- died, rezed next to it, and quickly filled my bag before they killed me again.

Well, I wanted that water totem and decided to risk it at any cost. So I took my little lvl 20 Shaman and off we went to the fountain. I got hit twice, but each time I was able to resurrect closer to the fountain. I checked to see if anything was near, positioned myself at the fountain and quickly filled my bag. Yeppers, I died again trying to get away, but I bought my body back from that nice angel lady, lol, and was on my way. I'm not afraid of getting my butt kicked..hehe My bones are laying all over Blood Myst Island! :)

You do not have to die, just takes time and the right plan. Can be done at level 20, did it at 21 easily without any deaths, but the lighting bolts hurt.
After you get to Astranaar, as always make sure to talk to the bird man. I was fighing 2 (lvl23 and lvl24) against one and survived so it is feasible.
Go south after going over the eastern brige from the town, there is a southern path that leads to the fountain.
In the middle of a small island is a glowing fountain, you have to get close and the MOBs will get you if you do not clear the area first.
Take out the guys one at a time as you move forward.
Use any potions or scrolls you have to increase armor or stamina.
Interrupt the lighting bolts with earthshock. Take one at a time, Move nice and easy. Take care testing the waters as they lurk inside also.
There is at least one patrol to watch for moves across the island, as it can a mess of 1-1 fights.

Right after leaving Astranaar from the East, the road splits into two parts. Take the East road. It leads you to the South.
The path will fade at two pools of water, one at the left and one at the right of the road.
After you passed those two pools you will enter 'The Ruins of Stardust', there you will find the little island in the water you need.

As for the Elementals, they are IN the water as well. So don't make the same mistake as me and just jump in the water and try to pull one on the shore of the island, cause you will get the ones from in the water on your tail too.

I did this one at lvl 20, and didn't have too much trouble with it. I had to solo 2 at once in a couple spots, but I didn't die once. The best tactic I found with these elementals is to use a rank 1 earth shock to disrupt their spells, and conserve most of your mana for lesser healing wave.

You have to put the bag in your action slots where your spells and stuff goes, then when u are next to the fountain just use the bag from the action slot and it will fill up.

Just in case you get lost the entrance to the Ruins of Stardust is at 33, 63. The "fountain" looks like a bird bath under the small gazebo on the island. If you see any warlocky demons... you went the wrong way, but you're close, head back the way you came until you see (or saw if you killed them) spiders, and look for the arch. That's the entrance to the ruins.

you cant get in if you are lvl 20 the crit you so many times that the lvl 23-24 mobs block the way so get to lvl 21-22 before enter stardust and do the q

Not hard at all.

Did this as a lvl 21 shaman. As suggested kill them off one by one. Some in the water. Get in fill the bag, leave the same way before your kills have res'd. No probs, did not die once.

If you rush in like an idiot & get mobbed ... then you'll die a few times. do it smart ie 1 by 1. then it's straight forward. Took me longer to walk from Darkshore than the killing / quest by far!

The good thing with shamans is the Stoneclaw Totem, did this as a lvl 20, ran in killed 2, filled the bag while the stoneclaw totem held aggro on two of the elementals, everything without dying. ran out and finished the quest.

Quite easy.
Killed off a few mobs, and then GW'ed for the center and threw down a stoneclaw, and got the quest item. No prob whatsoever.
Then I ofcourse died, and ressed at the spirit. Less time spent than any other way. :)

There's a little man-made looking fountain in the middle of the "island". Just walk up to it and click the "bota bag".

Being lazy, I bought a portal to Shat from SW, set my stone there, and portaled to the Exodar. After doing the previous step in this quest, I portaled from Shat to Darnassus. Funny thing, couldn't fly to Darkshore. So... I opted to death swim from Darny to Darkshore. Took two tries, but it worked. If you're going to try, i'd recommend a health pot and maybe popping Gift of the Naru before getting to the fatigue bar.

And, yeah, this is seriously an absurd time investment for a totem.

There is no need to make a run for it or rez at the fountain...you can easily knock them off one at a time. I did it at lvl 20 (turned 21 midway) and never had more than one on me at a time. It was so easy and then I just hearthed back to bloodmyst. Use fire totem and earth shock and you should be fine without having to heal.

the guys cast a lightning cloud that KICKS ASS i was a lvl 22 shaman and it nearly killed me 3 times. if you can kill them fast you can get out of the way but it is a tricky spell.

Too easy to die from mobs..(i was lvl 20) just do not aggro more than one mob in one time... pretty easily killed 24 mob, then i get nice cheap shot and backstab :D hate rogues...

Did as a lvl 20. Only reason I died was because of the stupid rooting vines they threw at me. Otherwise was easy. Just don't forget to grab your flight path in Astranaar!

If you don't mind dying, that is.

Catch the boat to Auberdine, Ghost Wolf on the road south.

Once in Astranaar (Don't forget to pick up the Flight Path!) head east out of the village and take the right hand fork in the road.

Follow the path until u get to Stardust. Have the bota bag in a UI slot.

The mobs there are Level 23 elementals that root and hit pretty hard.

Run straight onto the island and try to get to the little 3-column temple thingy (a trianon for the classicists) before dying.

Once you run back to your corpse, wait until the 3 mobs around the fountain are as far as possible (If you hit 'v' you'll see their health bars appear when they're in range - that helps)

Time it right, and you can fill the bag just before breathing your last breath.

Take a rezz at the graveyard and hearth back to safety. Voila!

Little tip, make sure U get the Auberdine fly point when you get there, i didn't and I had to walk back to Auberdine.(well ghost wolf)

Edit:This quest sucks, it will take you like an hour.

Follow the post below it is very detailed and will lead you right to it. Be prepared cause there are lvl24 elementals you have to fight there. They are easy though, If I can can kill the at lv20 then so can you. I used strength totem and searing totem. If u get 2 pop nairu, searing and spam heals. It's not that hard, I died once doing it because i got 3 elementals but it's completely doable at lv20.

Completly agree with previous post. If you ghost-wolf run up to the fountain (33.67), ALLOW yourself to be killed. Then once you've run back to your corpse, wait. Keep an eye on the mobs around u (Ctrl + V)and u can ress and fill up the Bota Bag before getting killed again. Then it's a simple matter of getting the spirit gaudian to ress you.

I only paid 16s COMPLETE repair cost, and i have 3 blue items. Yes, you get 15mins of ress sickness, but by the time you've flown back to auberdine and caught the boat back to the Exodar. It's practically gone! =D Hope this has helped.

I was getting attacked by 4 at once. I couldn't get to the waters edge with out getting 3 or 4 100 point lightening bolts dropped on me. Could never get just one and the second killed me every time - 6 deaths to get to fountain. 2 more trying to get the thing filled.

I did this as level 20 Dranei shaman (barely). Aggroed two, so ran to the fountain and filled it while they were beating the tar out of me. Rezzed and gryphoned back to Auberdine. Cheap and dirty, but what the hell... it worked ;)

Oh and I saw the bushes were glowing on the island where you have to fill it, if you're running for your life

Maybe some of you guys complaining about this (and any other) quest should find another "easier" game to play, pay (and risk account banning) someone to power-level your toons for you, or simply unplug your computer and send it back... Or maybe Blizzard should just add the option of letting people just 'create' a level 70 character without any of the work involved... seems to be just about the only thing that will satisfy some of the whiners here.

There's nothing "hard" about this quest. It is slightly more difficult than the normal run-of-the-mill lvl 20 quests, but then again, it 'should' be- it's a class quest. As for being particularly 'hard', you either need to learn how to play your shaman, or quit the game, move out of mom's basement, get a girlfriend, a job, a car, and a LIFE.

This was extremely simple.

Simply Ghost-Wolfed to the fountain, killed the mobs on me. After that, i just went to the fountain and used Stoneclaw, took bag, Ghostwolf and run.

I. at least, found the mobs tough around the fountain. Maybe it's a cheat but I let them kill me right next to the fountain. When I resurrected right next to the fountain, I had just enough time to fill the bota bag before I was killed again. Resurrected at the grave yard and repaired my armor at the first possible moment. level 21 Shaman.

its possible to run in with ghost wolf and use the bag at the fountain straight away. I aggroed 2 mobs but still managed to fill bag before dying, then spirit rezzed and flew back to exodar. Hope this helps saves you a trip

Since mobs were 4 levels above me and I couldn't kill them (me = lvl 20), I ran to fountain and died. Rezzed at fountain and filled bag before I died again. Rezzed at spirit healer. Easy.

Quest is slightly more difficult then most of the usual ones, but its fun and challenging, and the rewards are great :)

This quest is quite possible at 20 - you might want to wait a couple of levels though, if you're not as confident as you'd like to be. The target is located - as said in other posts - at 33,67 IN ASHENVALE. Read the Q. Also, for those without Coords , Head to Astranaar in Ashenvale for the FP. The way to do this is to head out of Auberdine taking the south path and just follow it quite a way until you're at the town. Grab the FP. Head directly south of Astranaar - which will be a very short walk compared to the previous one you've done getting here from Darkshore :p - you'll find that you're looking for DIRECTLY south of the town. There are quite a few mobs around at lvl 23 and 24.

The trick is to lure one at a time using Lightning Bolt. Use your Shock Spells as soon as CD ends. I chose Searing and Stoneclaw totems to help. Let the Stoneclaw take the damage whilst the Searing helps you damage them quickly. Lighting Shield on at all times. If you lure 2 for whatevr reason, use Gift of the Naaru as early in the battle as possible for the handy Heal of Time. If you manage to lure more then 2, run for it, i wouldnt advise it. A problem here is Entangling roots which can potentially keep you out of range of your targets for quite a while; the best thing to do in this case is to spam your spells and wait for it to run out. Don't forget to heal between every fight.

The actual target is surrounded by glowing plants and is in the middle of the island. Make sure nothing is about to attack you and fill your bottle. Hearth or walk out, and the rest is up to you!

Is it just me, or do these stupid mobs around the fountain hit ridiculously hard?

With up-to-date training, AH greens (which were better than quest rewards!) and after finishing *all* of the Bloodmyst Quests (except this one), they were hitting pretty dang hard, even with Stoneskin totem up. 2 at once? Forget it.

I can't figure out why these guys hit so damn hard compared to the stuff on Bloodmyst. Honestly.

I just completed this at level 20. The mobs around the fountain are most certainly doable, even the level 24 ones. So no need to die, just fight your way through. Only annoying thing is having to run because of your fairly large aggro radius and the fact that some mobs are under water.

Don't know if you did it for fun or if it was a missclick, but the real coords are 33,67 at the ruins of Stardust, and not Thistelfur village.

33,67 is correct for Ashenvale...where you fill the bag with water.

When you turn the quest in to Aqueous (AFTER you have filled the bag), he will send you near the Fouled Water Spirits to kill Tel'Athion and get his head.

This is at 26,41 on Bloodmyst Isle (south west of The Foul Pond)

I just did the quest and I didn't see a single level 24 critter around the fountain you need to go to, as reported by someone else.

I was level 21 by the time I made it to here, and the level 22 and 23 critters I found were a breeze to kill. So die if you must, but as a shaman, you're extremely powerful and can kill these guys. Unless you don't know what you're doing and feel the urge to die twice for absolutely no reason.

Some noob asked me where it is. I gave him the cords and he said yea where, what bit. I hate people sooo much when they dont read the quest, get the cords and you can do it blindfolded, its a bit of a challange but if you wanted to play an easy game go and play sonic.

While the quest is certainly doable at 20, it's also annoying. Besides the back-and-forth, back-and-forth of the whole quest chain (I found going around the Arraxis camp most annoying actually) it's topped off with this ginormous run out to Astranaar. Ugh.

While killing a single 23-24 mob is quite doable at 20, it's slow, and drains all your resources, especially with the raincallers. I killed the ones in the water, killed one of the raincallers on the island, and after my third "run like hell away from the place, dropping earthbinds" trying to get another single, I noticed I'd been here 15 minutes already, not to mention the 15 I spent running out here.

I ran up to the fountain and died, rezzed and filled the pouch, and spirit rezzed, hit hearth, and spent 10 minutes getting some dinner. It was just a lot easier.

But yes, it's certainly possible to kill your way to the fountain at 20--but it will take a long time, and it's completely unnecessary.

Maybe it helps that I'm Enhancement spec, but I was able to kill the elementals one at a time. Just put Lightning Shield on, then popped Searing, and Strength of Earth totems and pulled away. Even killed a level 24 one that was patrolling the area. I'm not twinked in any way.

Yes: there is another step: You need the Head of Tel'athion. He is back close to the "Foul Pond" just keep going west along the river. You will see the min map change to "Tel'athion Camp" he has a tent alont the river on the left side as your going in. To get him to spawn. you click on one of the barrels outside his tent. He is a Blood elf Mage. And as soon as you open the barrel pop he starts casting.. The water mobs come to help.. He was lvl 23. Take Care.

This chain is not bad, but it's not fun. It's good, in the fact that the reward is required. Other than that, I truly do hate this, mostly because of all the running, it's worse for Horde Druid's though, when they try to get the Seal form, they have to run around the world back and forth, quite literally, and there's no FP to where they going so I have to say, this is quite nice, espiecally since I've done the Horde Seal Form quest twice. This is easy, but not fun. And it's easier with the fact that we have FP's right next to the quest, so I have to say, don't complain, it may not be fun, but there is worse.

Decided to level a shammy for the hell of it and yes, this quest is not hard if you know what you're doing. However, for an inexperienced player I can see how this would be much more difficult. This does not mean they are stupid, useless, or incapable of ever learning. Just approach slowly, be patient, and try to pull the mobs away 1 at a time. At level 20 you can handle them.

The only people that need to quit the game and sell their computers are the morons who have nothing better to do than insult and try to bully the players that are still learning the game. If the only advice you have to offer is designed to put people down for their lack of experience, then you have a mental issue that should be treated by a professional before you are allowed to interact with society. Grow up, learn some manners, and hope that attitude of yours doesn't piss off the wrong person in RL.

If your quest description contains the following (from vers 3.31, I think):

There are ruins on the untainted portion of the island to the southeast. Go there, where the Wrathscale naga reside, and take from their fountan.

then all that stuff above doesn't apply to you. Indeed, to the southeast you'll see (in the green section of the island) "Wrathscale Lair" marked clearly on the map. You probably did a quest here right after the Kestral Run, where you kill the naga warlord. That's where the fountain is, tucked in plain sight in a corner of the ruins. It looks like an ornamental bird bath. Approach from seaward, and you only have to kill two very low level mobs to get there.

Such a poorly designed quest, it's so awkward.

Don't go to Ashenvale like guides or questie tells you to. Just go down to the ruins at 69,65 and save yourself some time.
