The Muddy Crawfish are critters scattered throughout the water in Orgrimmar (try the Valley of Honor).

While damn near impossible to spot with the naked eye if you type (or use a macro) "/tar Muddy" they are MUCH easier to spot from even great distances.

Edit: The crawfish aren't critters, they're beasts, so the easiest way to find them is to toggle enemy nameplates: 'v' default.

The Crawdads are in the water pools all around Orgrimmar. Turn in gives Rep with Orgrimmar unless you are exalted, then its 62 rep to Horde Factions.

If you are having a problem seeing them, hit the V key, their health will pop up and see EXACTLY where they are.

As the other poster stated if you hit "V" in-game it will make there names show up. They are just little crabs that are walking on the bottom of the lakes in Orgrimmar. Can't catch them if you are mounted.

Macro:
/tar muddy
/use xxx focusing lens. ( where xxx is Shadow jade, Dark Jade, or Shadow Crystal)

Targets the crawfish, and points it out with a light beam. This makes it really easy to spot the ones under water.

This won't be needed once we get flying in Org, since you can then just use the /tar line from above the pond and easily spot the yellow hitbox.

If you change your interface settings under "names" and click the box under nameplates to show enemy units it will show you all these creatures in the pools and make targeting of them very easy also.

You are grapping them as you are entering a vendor. Its the same mouse icon.. In other words, they dont have to be fished, just rightclick them. I found 7 in Valley of Strenght. Three of them were in the water and four were actually sitting on the banks. Posted a screenshot, that compares it with the Crockroach pet.

Indeed, this can be found in and just around pools in Orgrimmar. I tried fishing them at first, before coming to look here when I didn't catch any (it does say "catch" in the quest description). These can be very difficult to spot. For me, it was easiest to tarted them using /target while I was outside the water, then jump in and grab when once I could tell where they were lit up. Also worth noting is that you do not kill Muddy Crawlfish to acquire the Muddy Crawfish, but you have to walk/swim up to them, and you right click to loot.

Muddy Crawfish are tiny critters very difficult to spot, use the key V to reveal them by changing the default view in lakes all around Orgrimmar, moreover by using the V key you will have trouble collecting the crawfish because you have to click on the crawfish and the name bar interferes with this, Muddy Crawfish have the ability to move fast....

You cannot collect Muddy Crawfish while mounted

As these are coveted little crawfish, I've found a fun spot that spawns 2 fairly quickly. If you're running the path to the North gate towards Azhara, you'll pass a bridge that goes over a dry lakebed. No water, yet the little guys seem to like it in there.

Do note - if you taunt them to get them to run to you, they turn aggressive and you can't loot them :(

This is the first and only time I've ever zoomed in and used first-person view. And use "V" to see them, but turn it off, it's hard to loot them with the health bar up.

Thanks for making them so tiny and scurry so much Blizz, at least the chickens had a net.

The 10 clam meat fishing daily has a Water Gliding buff with +50% swim speed and underwater breathing, if the quests align it's kinda handy when you're mucking about.

I tried to catch them, but couldnt. I had the quest in my log, was not on mount nor did i taunt them. Nothing seemed to help, and i was about to open a ticket for GM to help me.

Then i saw i was in a raid group. I leaved and then i could catch them.

So make sure that you're not in a group, or you wont be able to catch the mudfishes :)

If you bind your interact with target key, show name plates, and make use of your tab key, you can do this without chasing the tiny jerks around with your mouse.

It's fairly easy to see these guys when they enter or leave water as they make a different splash than the frogs and other things. It looks more like the fishing bobber splash.

every time i try to 'collect' them i get the attack sword icon and i just kill them off. never get the collect icon when mousing over the crawfish. anyone else have this happened?

tried in stealth, mounted/unmounted, with poisons/without....tried every thing..logged out with quest still in log and back in did not work. dropped quest multiple times. even dropped then logged..still didnt get the collect icon.

Put this down as the most annoying quest in Azeroth. Along with the Stormwind one to catch canal crabs! Just annoying, thats it thats all!

Patch 4.1 hit yesterday, and today I got this cooking daily. It seems I cannot see the crawfish nameplates anymore, even after hitting the V key several times. Maybe it's just me bugged, but I came here to see if I'm not the only one.
It's taking me ages to complete this quests :(

Edit: maybe this change is due to the fact that they are not killable anymore, but still :(

Apparently the crawfish are now friendly .. which means that just clicking 'V' doesnt work anymore.

It's 'Shift+V' now, presuming you didnt change the key binding for 'Showing Friendly Name Plates'.

As others have said, no fishing involved. Shift+v, not V, puts their nameplates on. Confirmed lootable while mounted, although obviously if you sink into the water you'll dismount from a flier.

While underwater, it also helps to go first person, and then click on the nameplate itself so it highlights their tiny hitboxes, making them much easier to loot amidst all the plants.

Also, check the spawn points on your map, obviously.

On high pop servers, check the valley of spirits, over near the Org exit. it's kinda out of the way relative to the quest npc, and people seem to look there last.

I'm glad that you posted this cause i woruld still be fishing. Here is a macro that i use to find them alot easier, it works for me.

/target Muddy Crawfish
/script if UnitName("target") and not UnitIsDead("target") and not GetRaidTargetIndex("target") then SetRaidTargetIcon("target",1); end
/cleartarget

This way it will target them making it easier to find them as you fly/ walk around.

Go to the Game Menu>Interface>Names>Unit Nameplates (Friendly Units) and tick the box.

Easy to spot, even in the weeds.

in a macro button and boom...this quest takes 1/10th the time. Sweet!

Easiest way is to turn on Track Beasts (as a hunter) or eat Lanchinho do Rastreador. Head to the Valley of Honor, there are are more than enough of these mangy devils around there. Zoom your minimap all the way in as well as your camera view. Hop on your flying mount and go to town. I havent found it neccessary to turn on the hover names, but I suppose that would also likely help.

Macro to Find Crawfish: (enter "/macro" in the text box to open the macro editor)

/tar muddy crawfish
/focus
/script SetRaidTarget ("focus", 1)

This will flag the elusive crawfish with a star that should be easily spottable AND set a focus target in your mini-map so you can find the nearest one if it's a bit farther away. Assign the macro to a numbered shortcut button and you can finish this quest in a minute or two in any of the larger ponds.
