I seem to be unable to obtain this quest as a non-undead race (Blood Elf Warlock). I can only assume it has something to do with a couple of pre-reqs that you can't seem to do as a non-undead.

As a non-undead you don't get the starter quest where the Val'kyr wakes you up and the 2 quests right after that where you speak to 3 people and slay 6 undead that are mentally messed up.

I ran to this zone as a lvl 1 and started questing here right from the start, after realizing I couldn't get this quest I attempted to go back to the Blood Elf zone and complete a few (4) starter quests there, the class quest that has you train some spells on a few target dummies and the first 2 quests given from the very first NPC and then her follow up quest all completed hoping it was just some kind of "if you did you class quest" pre-req trigger.

I also created an Undead Warlock to make sure I hadn't missed anything and as stated above the Blood Elf doesn't get access to the first first 2 quests and the Undead class quest. My Undead was able to get this quest no problem.

Sadly none of those work after returning to this quest giver was still unable to obtain this quest and must skip it.

I also just want to point out that even though WoWhead says "Race: Undead" - it also says that for the previous quest Night Web's Hollow but I was able to obtain that and all the previous quests to that (except the ones mentioned) without issue. I can also skip past this particular quest that I'm commenting on and go straight to the next little quest spot and pickup quests from Deathguard Simmer (which are also marked as Undead) without issue.

[While you were inside that cave, your big friend Darnell came by with some alarming news.

Since the val'kyr arrived, we've seen more and more undead that chose not to join our forces under the banner of the Dark Lady. They've been gathering at a small camp here in the valley, and now they've organized forces.

They plan to attack Deathknell, <class>.

Darnell is just down the road, to the east. Be careful, <name>. While those undead aren't completely brainless, they're still not quite right in the head.]
