In the room with the turtle boss, there is a cave (past the turtle platform). You have to swim underwater to get to it. Thaelrid is in there. (Look for the dot on your map.) Note that this is not the same cave as the one that holds Lady Sarevess (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/npc=4831) which is farther to the right.

Please note that the quest Blackfathom Villiany can be accepted without this quest and if you do not accept this quest first and do Blackfathom Villiany, In Search of Thaelrid will not be available to you upon completion. (found that out the hard way)

Trying to accept the followup quest as Horde gives you "That quest is not available for your race.".
He still gives the Horde version of that quest, though. Basically just an annoyance. ^^

In addition to being offered to Horde, confirmed to count towards Loremaster of Kalimdor (Horde).

Also counts for 3000 Quests Completed.

EDIT: why am I being downrated? It's important to know that this quest explicitly counts towards the Horde version of the achievement, too!

I tried to do this quest today. (Level 24 Blood Elf Hunter) Made the mad dash through Auberdine and the and the purple "portal" only to find that the stupid guy wouldn't give me the quest! You must have to be a higher level have it offered as horde. Or perhaps, you must already have rep with Argent Dawn. I don't know. I just wanted to post so that no one else had to waste the time that I did. :(

As a level 37 Draenei Mage, picked this quest up and when I turned it in to the NPC inside Blackfathom Deeps, I was awarded with 1000 Argent Dawn reputation. Might want to get the tooltip fixed. However, at the time I was also max exalted with Darnassus, so I am not sure if that has any bearing at all.

Level 24 night elf with my friend a level 20 night elf. We cannot get past 20 feet without constantly being killed. Anyone have any tips?

Actually, I was able to confirm yesterday that Horde characters can indeed obtain the quest from Dawnwatcher Shaedlass in Darnassus. She is a neutral faction in the middle of the city. You just have to either raid the city to get there, or just corpse hop all the way to her. Once there, rez and talk and accept the quest before the guards kill you again.

It's possible to get to the quest givers for this and Twilight Falls at level 25 if you're patient and willing to die a few times. I recommend swimming to Teldrassil along the path of the boat. When you get exhausted and die you can ride the boat back to your corpse and start swimming fresh from there. Even if you sprint through Rutharen Village the guards will catch you once or twice and you'll have to ride the boat back as a ghost again. Once you're in Darnassus jump in the water and swim underwater to the craftsman's terrace. Try to die the next time next to the alchemy shop. When you rez at the Argent Dawn folks you should be able to talk to them and hearthstone out without any more hassling from the guards.

Note that I wasn't able to get the Twilight Falls quest at level 32 with 4.067 Argent Dawn faction. In a way I was relieved that I wouldn't have to come back to turn it in. I was able to get Search for Thaelrid but only got 950 exp and no reputation. There's a bit of confusion where Thaelrid tries and fails to give you the alliance version of Blackfathom Villainy when you finish Search for Thaelrid but you can talk to him again and get the horde version.

I've also abandonned the quest (by mistake) and now can't get it back.

So I just went into the Blackfathom Depth because I thought Thaelrid might still give me a quest once I've found him. But he didn't. :(

Does anyone have an idea how I can get this quest now? Is this a bug? I want the reward. :(

My understanding is you skip the first part of the quest and get the second part directly from the gun in the instance. See http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?wquest=1200

There are two quests available in Darnassus at the Craftsmans area. This one and Twilight Falls. The location of the two NPCs is 55.24 They are on the second floor of the Alchemy tree.

Confirmed; it is possible for a patient orc to get the quest in Darnassus.

This quest is also found in Astranaar. I had a 28 drud and didn't get it from the 2 places your talking about. I think it's nere Raeine with the chain of Raeine's Cleansing quests.

I am lvl 23 warlock and I was able to corpse hop my way to Darnassus and get the quest from Dawnwatcher Shaedlass at 54,24...the upper floor of the Alchemist place. It took me 1.5 hours to get here...it wasn't hard....just time consuming.

I'm a level 31 nightelf in booty bay and i don't know where thaelrid is! The other comments mention giant turtles bu i don't know where to find them. does anyone know? In directions not coordinates.

To find Thaelrid, you need to swin under water into a cavern from the room where all the turles reside. Not sure of the coors, just swim underwater to find the "secret" cavern.

I found guard Shaedlass, but he won't give me the quest.. no mark over his head or anything and I can't click him to get a quest.

To those people who aren't sure how they get this quest, I had the same problem. But I managed to fix it! Someone had shared the quest "Blackfathom Villainy" with me and even though that's technically the second part it's still sharable ... So just abandon that quest and this one will become available. And then, when you find the guy, you can re-get the villainy one.

IF there a quest you need to do before this. i click on the guy and nothing. I clicked on the other guy close and got a different quest did it and went back to both and still can't click on him. Can anyone help me with this?

Once you get to the large pool with Ghamoo-ra in the middle
Ghamoo-ra should be in a dead end in one of the tunnels to the east.

I found him, he is inside the instance back in a crevice dead end spot where you would not likely go, he is laying on the ground sleeping.

Horde can get this quest, but it requires a trip to Darnassus, so be prepared to die several times to the guards. However, doing this quest earns you 150 Argent Dawn rep + 2400 XP.

It is a UNDERWATER Cave
Dive underwater...and into the cave
He is lyeing on the ground sleeping.
Leads to another quest.

This is marked incorrectly as Alliance only quest and is still available to the Horde as of WOW Classic 1.13.2.

Building in Craftsman's Terrace nearest the water & Battle Masters. Lower floor of building has alchemy NPC's. The Argent Dawn guys are on the upper floor. Dawnwatcher Shaedlass & Argent Guard Manados.

You complete the quest inside the dungeon Blackfathom Deeps.

After you kill the first boss, Ghamoo-ra you head through the underwater passage South-West from the turtle lake.

He's basically to the right side of where you normally continue heading towards when you leave the turtle lake.

For your completionists, if you are Horde, and can get to this NPC, he'll give you the quest as well.

Many rumors circulate these days about the union of the Twilight's Hammer and the naga in Blackfathom Deeps to the west.

My role here is to collect as much information as I can, so we know when and where help is needed.

It has been days now since I sent a scout to check on the activity inside Blackfathom Deeps. Scout Thaelrid has not yet reported back.

My other scouts are preoccupied with pressing matters.
