Garrosh Hellscream, Son of Grommash Hellscream (Giant's Heart in orcish) chieftain of the Warsong Orcs, and now Acting Warchief of the horde.

long before the orcs came to Azeroth, his father Grom was universally reviled as the first of the orcs who drank from the demonic blood of Mannoroth the destroyer, Liutenant of the legion, and by doing so, became the first of the corrupted horde to shackle himself to the legion.

After this, while most orcs crossed over to azeroth to begin the first and second wars, Garrosh was left behind, with the sickly orcs of Garadar, there to live in shame knowing that it was his father who began the long bitter road of damnation that would cripple the orcs for generations to come.

Living his entire childhood with this Stigma, Garrosh had developed a low self esteem, and deemed himself unworthy of leadership, fearfull that his actions would bring much dishonor to his clan.

It was 20 years later, that an Orcish Shaman of the Frostwolf clan, Thrall son of Durotan, Warchief of the horde, Liberator of the orcs, traveled to Garadar to meet his grandmother, and to redeem Grom's Image in the eyes of the Mag'har orcs.

the one who had been seen as a traitor for so many years was revealed to be their savior, for indeed Grom had sacrificed his life fighting the demon lord Mannorth, and killed him to end the curse once and for all, and in doing so, sacrificed his own life to secure the future of the orcs.

it has been several years since that life-changing revelation, and Garrosh has evolved (or depending on your view, Devolved) from a depresive young man, into a militaristic orcish leader. His view of the horde as an unstoppable war-machine clashes violently with Thrall's pacifist views, and for a long time Garrosh time and time again challenged Thrall, to take a more active position regarding the alliance.

starting in patch 4.0, Garrosh will be the defacto leader of both the orcs, and the horde, serving as an acting Warchief in the place of Thrall.

these 2 images explain HOW did garrosh obtained his position of power.

The elements were being torn apart by Deathwing's machinations on the earth plane, and the elements feeling that the world-pillars would shatter otherwise, have instead opted to call for their migthiest champion Thrall, to aid them. As this is going to be a long, tiresome endeavour Thrall has taken the necesary steps to ensure his people is well cared for in his absence, and named the most unlikely candidate to be Acting Warchief on his behalf while he saves the world from the upcoming elemental upheaval.

Wether Garrosh was a wise choise or rather he'll bring to ruin what took 2 decades for thrall to build.......... only time will tell.

This post will be updated as the expantion continues, to Chronicle Garrosh's actions (both the good and the bad) during the cataclysm.

Garrosh shows up in the Silverpine forest during the quest "the Warchief Cometh" where he bears witness to Sylvannas' plan for the forsaken "procreation" (using Val'kyrs to raise recently dead humans as forsaken undead) and expresses heavy disaproval for it, going so far as to call Sylvannas a "Bitch" and notes that while everyone must face judgement before their maker some day, Sylvannas' may do so sooner than she expects. Curiously, even when Sylvannas clearly disobeyed his direct orders to never produce or deploy blight (lots of blight were deployed on Gilneas, and most of silverpine has multiple blight tanks) he doesn't reprimends her for it, nor does he even makes mention of this.

Wheter he actually changed his opinion of the blight and now sanctions its use, or he just was more shocked for the val'kyrs that he forgot to mention it, is yet to be determined.

The good thing about the new warchief is that he's not likeable by everyone... as is King Wrynn. This opens more possibilities for faction-internal political stuff, which is hopefully going to be interesting.

I really hope that there will be some even more stupid deed from Garrosh than already done, and this will lead to a revolution... and I'm hoping that this might lead to intra faction battle, or a phased quest like the recapture of the Undercity where some players will choose to support Garrosh and some try to remove him. No idea how this might resolve then but just as an idea.

Can´t agree more with Vol´Jin. An arrgant and warthirsty jerk who hates Aliance even though they did NOTHING to him or his family and earned his role solely because of lineage can´t be EVER compared to Thrall, who has merit in forming the Horde itself, who freed Orcs, rescued Trolls and helped Taured to win an otherwise-lost war!

Why does so many people hate this guy?I personally think hes awsome. The alliance got an agressive leader Wrynn who wants to destroy the horde, what good does it then make to have a peaceful leader on horde side. If anything, then i think it would make more sence that the horde are the agressive ones, and alliance the peaceful. I deffenantly think its nice to have a leader that can kick some ass. Why do you all want peace in a game called World of Warcraft^^?

Cairne would have been a wiser choice to take over for the Horde. He knows what hes doing and would probably make better choices regarding Horde vs Alliance which seems to be all Garrosh can think about.....
Yes I know that Cairne will be killed pre-Cata but if Garrosh would not have been elected warchief, Cairne's death could have been avoided

Players all seem to hate Garrosh and Varian, and from an objective standpoint this makes sense. But if you do some roleplaying it's not so obvious.

Think about it, the idea that there was peace between the factions, even a tenuous one, under Thrall is nonsense. Every day hundreds of Horde die at the hands of the Alliance - in battlegrounds, Wintergrasp, or NPCs like city guards and quest mobs.

Orgrimmar citizens constantly have to battle against Alliance raids, you can say that these weren't sanctioned by Alliance leaders but that doesn't matter to the average grunt on the street fighting for their life. They are going to look at all this diplomacy and co-operation at a higher level and wonder what it is actually doing for them. They are the ones who want the change, the more aggressive leader, to actively force the Alliance out of Kalimdor, to try to secure some respite.

Basically it is players who have pushed the war between the factions forward, and made the position of co-operative leaders untenable. It doesn't make sense to criticise Hellscream for being a racist warmonger, and then hop into a Wintergrasp demolisher to mow down Alliance while yelling "For the Horde!"

Garrosh in Burning Crusade
To sum up eveything that is fact, Garrosh originally had low self esteem, and thought himself a bad leader. When Thrall showed him his father's act of heroism, his self opinion grew very high.
Garrosh in Wrath of the Lich King
He became very aggresive, and clashed with Thrall's pacifist views. He was interested very much in fighting the Alliance during the Warsong Offensive.
Garrosh in Cataclysm
Because of him being the son of Grom, and his war hero status, Thrall apointed him leader of the Horde, as Thrall knew he could benefit all of Azeroth in the Earthen Ring. Since then Garrosh has slain Cairne Bloodhoof in an unjust duel due to to Magatha's poison, insulted Sylvanas by calling her no different then the Lich King, and driven away Vol'Jin. He has clearly made himself enemies in his fellow leaders, and several amongst the Horde are against him. Many players have a hatred for him, and many wish Thrall was back. Garrosh is growing as a leader though, and during the final quest in the Kor'Kron chain he learns much of mercy from Chieftain Cliffwalker, and speaks of honor.
My opinion of Garrosh
I think that Garrosh is no Thrall, and that he is too warlike. I like fightig Alliance, but I need a slight moral. I dissaprove of Garros's aggresive pesonality, and wonder why Blizzard would put in such a jerk. Lately I have discovered that Garrosh is getting better, and that eventually he might become a great leader, but for now I hope he gets killed by an Alliance raid. People would die for Thrall, no matter the level, but I think you will see more people watching him die than helping him.

I returned to mighty Orgrimmar after having spent several months as a recluse, away from this world. As the very earth beneath my feet started rumbling and getting torn apart, I had to come back.
But I'm confused now. Something went wrong here. The great Thrall is missing, the City is turned inside out. And this... Hellscream is the acting warchief?
I've heard that it was Thrall's choice, and I do not question his wisdom, but... I fear the worst. The horde itself may be falling apart.
Master Vol'jin, first counselor and years-long aidee for the Warchief, wasn't he an obvious choice as a steward? Even the Dark Lady showed great talent in building and maintaining a whole society.
Who was Cairne Bloodhoof, I may ask - some dumb cow? Every time I visited Thunder Buff, I felt it necessary to see him and kneel and bow before him, as a sign of respect for his wisdom and merits in battle. And even his untimely and unfair death is not enough for Thrall to admit at last, that for once, he made a bad choice? The peoples of the horde, and their leaders all hate Hellscream, as he stabbed even the Taurens, with whom the orcs were like brothers for a generation, right in the heart...
I'm worried about Thrall. He was The Warchief for times I've seen, but now is somehow... seemingly losing it. Is there something I do not know about him, that weakens or stirs his mind?
When you have to smash an enemy using your forces, like the hammer smashes the glowing yellow steel when forging a sword, then Hellscream is a good choice - that is what he is, a warrior from the head to the toe. Desperate times require desperate measures, and a stubborn, strict and hard-handed leader can be the tool for them. Make Garrosh Hellscream the supreme commander of the army, but not the warchief, for Thrall's sake... He's a warrior, not a politician!
I'm worried about the Horde. Thrall's person used to be the Horde itself, and without him, cursed with an incompetent leader, it may be in grave danger.
The City could not comfort me anymore. I need to leave again, to see Thrall, and ask him, and serve him, as we always did, and maybe somehow, find a way to convice him to intervene.
Hard times are ahead of us. Dark times for the Horde.

With those huge pauldrons of his, he has practically 0 peripheral vision, so the plan? We release raptors.

Being a warrior, he'll rush the first raptor, who will just stand there and stare right back, and that's when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the sides. The other two raptors, he wouldn't even know were there.

Have yet to see anyone kill him (Or even bother raiding him), only time I have seen him engage in combat is when me and some friends kited Shandris Feathermoon to him, he was underwhelming (He won of course since he has like 35M more HP and he also had a ton of players helping him).

I was rather disappointed since Varian is also underpowered, which makes me sad the two main leaders are weaker then the rest, but Garrosh seems a little tougher just since he has shockwave.

As for adds, take your choice, players in the Valley of Strength (Org's trade district equiv) or Genn Greymane (About 50M HP has a ton of annoying abilities).

Garrosh ... from where should I start? He`s a retard ... at first. To be honest he spent all of his life thinking that his father was a "demon" and only threw The Horde into senseless bloodlust (what's actually his doing). His father was a great warrior, he actually listened to Thrall... and when he didn't like something... he may have argued his point... but then respectful agreed with the Warchief. I always remember Garrosh answers as a mockery to Thrall. I am really really intrigued about the part with the war hero and all %^&*. In my opinion the war against the Scourge was won by no other than the Ashen Verdict (Knights of the Ebon Blade and Argent Crusade), Alliance and Horde moved their pointless war to another location... I actually remember a quest in Icecrown (A Tale of Valor this is part of it) when a Crusader Commander gave his life to save Alliance and Horde which battled each other when the Argent Crusade was advancing against the Scourge... nevertheless the Horde Commander was actually really proud of what he did. Horde and Alliance were just a failure in Icecrown.... I spit on em both, they just held back the Ashen Verdict. About the Sylvanas thing... I never actually liked her that much... but he was right back then, they sought to defeat the Lich King and Sylvanas is now nothing more and a mere copy of him. After what he did with Cairne... no comment. That wasn't "honorable", also he flee... making me think that he doesn't really believe in his quote "Live your life this way: Lok'Tar Ogar! Victory or death!" I guess there should be a 3rd option, right? Yet again Garrosh is getting humiliated... for needing Alliance to clean his #$%^ (Anduin Wyrnn and Lady Jaina Proudmoore together with Gazlowe helped Baine to take Thunder Bluff back), the so hated Alliance, also from what I have read... he looked kinda scared... not only that he needed Eitrigg to clear his mind... but even after doing so he didn't HELP, he stayed back and watched and then sent Magatha into the wilderness... such a cruel fate for a Tauren... which always loved nature and had great respect for "The works of the Earthmother..." Garrosh is nothing more than a mongrel... anyway that's my opinion, but he`s not A WAR HERO! Neither the Alliance NOR the Horde did $%^& in Icecrown... so the whole reason he got the rank of Warchief is just dust in the wind.... The Horde needs us now like never before... Alliance gets Malfurion back, we lose a mighty leader... charismatic and brave... as you used to say my friend... For those wondering about his combat. His melee hits for about 25k, or did on my PvP geared prot warrior (When I ran in to attack him solo just to see how long I could live solo, got that from the combat log), likely less on a raid geared prot. And the four abilities listed in his abilities section (For those too lazy to check...)

Berserker Charge: Charges a target and does a knock back dealing 16-18k damage.

Demoralizing Shout: AOE shout reduces melee attack power by 20% of all enemies nearby.

Shockwave: Same as the warrior one, don't know the damage, I am guessing around the same as his charge though.

Whirlwind: Same as Varian's, hits for 14-16k a tick.

And of course all of the VoS players and more then likely Gamon. He also resets if he leaves his hut.

I don't like Garrosh Hellscream due to the fact that he isn't seeing the big picture. He would rather fight the Alliance then take on the bigger threat Deathwing. Garrosh Hellscream is not my Warchief. I can't wait till Thrall comes back or Garrosh Hellscream is dethroned for someone else.

Alot of people might not agree with me but I think Garrosh is going to be a lot worse than Thrall. Thrall has a lot more class and doesn't attack Alliance on sight. I just think it's stupid how they made him Warcheif.

It's not just that Garrosh is hotheaded (even after blizzard nerfed his impulsive attitude a bit post-shattering), it's also that he's a poor strategist. I can remember his conversation with Saurfang in Warsong hold. All garrosh wants to do is go and kill alliance and scourge, getting bored with all the logistics it takes to actually wage war. It takes Saurfang to basically say "l2war nub" to get him to back down. I'm afraid that Garrosh is just driving the horde into the ground.

At the same time, I also worry that Varian is similarly doing the same to the alliance. I wonder if somehow both faction heads got corrupted by the Old Gods... future raid bosses perhaps? One can only hope.

I hate this guy. For one thing he made the mistake of disrespecting Queen Sylvanis by calling her a @#$%^. I was hoping she would turn semi-bad and murder him. But recently I decided that since Gamon is now a super badass that he should defeat garrosh in a duel and become the new horde leader.
Im actually going to start a post in the official forums to offer the idea to blizzard lol, and a bunch of fun event Ive written down so the players can experience it without the event happening all at once. Would be nice to see Gamon rise through the arenas even have him show up randomly and pwn people in arenas. lol so much could be done with this ^^

Thankyou for re-designing Orgrimmar. If it wasn't laid out poorly enough before, it most certainly is now. And way to not let any of the other cities have portals. Overcrowded cities are really great for my RAM.

Cairne would have beaten Garrosh in the duel if he wasn't weakened by the poison.

You imply that Cairne was weakened at all. Cairne let him win because Garrosh is a newbie to the horde and all. The "poison" was merely an energy drink Cairne had to take to stay awake the entire duration of the duel. Then he claimed his own life due to massive amounts of fail Garrosh brought with him when he started bragging about Northrend.

Also, I would stand by and watch Garrosh die as well, simply to wait until the Alliance all left the room so that I may furiously and proudly mash my "X" key above Garrosh's beaten corpse.

He can say "Victory or Death" all he wants, but repeating it 50 times in a quest log or event doesn't make him any more special.

How could the son of Grom, who essentially freed the Orcs from chaos by defeating Mannoroth (in Warcraft 3 at least), turn out to be such a %^&*!
I mainly play as the Alliance, but i'm proud to call the Horde, and in particular Thrall, my rivals.
After completing the Orc campaign of W3, I immidiately made an Orc char.
One of the key reasons I admire Tirion so much is how opposed he is to the Alliance/Horde conflicts.

I think if there is one good thing Arthas achieved as the Lich King, it was uniting the Alliance and Horde. Even if it was just for a short while.

Although Thrall often re-thinks his choice for Garrosh being the leader. I do think Thrall made a wise choice. Although Garrosh is the biggest hot-head of the horde. He has shown acts of mercy and nobility for his bood-thirsty attitude. I still question on his motives and why he would rather fight the alliance. Land is good and all for supplies and homes and all... But it won't matter when Deathwing flies in with the Trollface.jpg and burns it all to a crisp.
He needs to direct more attention to the true enemy than the ones who simply try to defend their homes and sacred land. If I see that more in him, i'll be damned to see him give cupcakes to Tyrande in apology for killing many elves and cutting down the trees.

So much hate for Garrosh. He's not all bad, you know. I thought he was a buffoon that would cause the Horde to be ruined at first, but he's actually helping it. He's taking lands and refusing the Alliance a strong foothold, pushing them back further and further.

Yes, he is an ass. But he is doing what he has to to keep the Horde alive and thriving. Thanks to him, the Horde is stronger than ever.

On a final note, I noticed the only real foundation people have for their hate is that Garrosh is a warmonger. In this assumption, one would be correct. However, attacking when the enemy least expects it is a very effective strategy when it comes to war. This is World of WARcraft; not PEACEcraft.

So, we all know Garrosh called Sylvanas a !@#$%, this is what happened in the game. But i was reading Sylvanas' lore (Shes an epic character) and i read this:

"BELAY THAT ORDER!" shrieked a voice from the north. The call of the Banshee Queen carried such terrifying power and purity that even the rain itself seemed to cease falling at her command.
Garrosh now approached her on the rutted road, the kneeling, quiet Forsaken army stretched out around him like thousands of silent statues. Bloodlust shone in his eyes. Lydon couldn't help but shrink away.
Yet Sylvanas didn't blink, nor did she remove her hood out of respect. She lifted her chin in a subtle gesture. Her words sang out, meant for Garrosh but loud enough for all to hear."Hellscream. Gilneas will fall. And the Horde will have its prize," she said. "But if you wish to use my people, we will do this my way." "Who are you to countermand my orders?" Garrosh demanded, nudging his war wolf forward. The enormous orc now pressed his great girth into her space, coming up alongside her and glowering at her. She reached up and slowly brought down her hood, then directed her dark gaze at him. Her eyes were alive, their oversized jet-black pupils livid with rage, red embers glowing deep within.
At that moment, nobody dared look Sylvanas Windrunner in the eye. Nobody but Garrosh Hellscream.
What he saw was a great black void, an infinite darkness. There was fear in those eyes, but also something else. Something that terrified even the great warchief. His wolf began to edge away instinctively.

Oh an if any one is wondering, the armor and skull of the once great Pit Lord known as Mannoroth is used as his throne, Also fought in the Well of Eternity, was the great being that corrupted Grom Hellscream and most if not all of the orcs of Outland other then a small number along Thrall, and lead the first invasion of the Burning Legion. After Grom was Brought back from his blood thirsty craze he and Thrall confronted the Great Pit Lord In battle, but Grom took a brutal blow but not before taking the mighty Pit Lord with him, cleansing the Curse of the corrupted orcs. His remans were once mounted on a tree nearby the hold, but now they seemed to have been moved withen the hold as a addition to Garroshs throne, most likely to show honor to His families name.

But now we ask with Thrall now the aspect of the Earth, do you really think he will rejoin the Horde? The Hellscream family has always been a big part of lore and I believe even with so much hate and Violence to the Alliance that he seems a Fitting (If not thick-skull type) Leader of the horde and I think they need him and someone less vulnerable such as Thrall. In due time i think the Horde will respect Him and Thralls less but some what smart move, but maybe he (Thrall) will return to the horde (Now that he has stepped down as aspect) . But I have my doubts its too big of a duty as he is now leader of the shamans of the earthen ring.

With the Siege of Org and Hellsreams New bloodlust and sinister motives, this comment seems out of place, If Blizz had built around a better story for Garrosh and made him a tad smarter and more respectable, and less blinded with bloodust he might of had a chance. But over all I somewhat like him in a Orcs perspective. Otherwise he just makes the Horde look bad.

Garrosh Hellscream, Son of Grom once a aphetic and lustless warrior now gone berserk.
He will be corrupted by the power he has gained. Or, because he is wearing Mannoroth's tusks and wielding Hellscreams Axe.
I personally think that he is a good Horde leader. But he has the blood curse in his genes.
He will end up killing someone so important that everyone wants him dead. Although you might state that this is already the case, as he helped killing Cairne.
Rumors are going that he will be corrupted by N'zoth. I doubt this. I think that Mannoroth's Spirit will gain control over him. As mannoroth stated:

"So predictable... I knew you would come... and I see you brought the mighty Hellscream... his blood, is mine..."

His blood is mine (Grom Hellscream, Thus also his son). And Mannoroth's bones are Hellscream's armor and Throne. So what i am saying is. Maybe there is a way that a demonic Pit Lord's spirit can survive. Although i doubt it.
For the rest, he has a rivalry with Varok Saurfang, veteran of the Horde. Who is a legendary character that is well known for being the best cleaver. ever.

Cleave— Inflicts weapon damage plus 53.000.000 to an enemy and its nearest allies, affecting up to 10 targets.

Varok was once much like hellscream, but has turned against these heartless tactics. Here is something that i read about him:
"He will not shy away from war, or hesitate to defend his people and the Horde. However, he refuses to start a war, and if it is within his power,
he will prevent a ->warmongering spirit<- from doing so. Whether through actions or by words, he will stop them anyway he can... no matter what."

But as to who Hellscream might kill in his blinded rage. I don't know. But it must be someone so important that it will turn me against my warchief.
I will have Saurfang's back nonetheless. For he has served in every war, plus killed his already dead son. Tonight we feast in hell! But we eat gazelle instead of pork!

Garrosh is already hated by every faction leader, Vol'jin of the Darkspear Tribe absolutely despises him stating that he abuses his status.
He labels Orcs and Taurens true horde, and thus evicted everyone else from Orgrimmar. Although he sees use in every member of the Horde, this move wasn't very smart.

CONCLUSION: My favorite Warchief ever. He hates the Alliance, WHICH IS NORMAL FOR A WARCHIEF OF THE HORDE. He reinforced Orgrimmar, and gained more territory than any other warchief.
Sure he might be constantly buffed with bloodlust, and spamming Whirlwind on any messenger that brings him bad news. But isn't that part of being member of the Horde? Being Ruthless?
At least he isn't stupid, his Keep is right at the main plaza of Orgrimmar. Thus uniting him with Hero's that he deems Pure Horde.

Conclusion:
Will my account see the days of me killing the Son of Hellscream?
..... That chance is about the same as the chance that i will roll a Night Elf Hunter or a Gnome Rogue.
0%, unless he kills Saurfang. Which i think he will. But i will quit wow anyways if Saurfang dies.

I was getting so tired of having an orc version of the Alliance king (dim-witted, violent, and always looking to crush his 'enemies' even when a much, much greater threat loomed in front of him) call the shots.
