Be warned mdps that uses 2handers, all tanks will get their +100 roll on this item since its still classified as a tank item for Death Knights...

Meaning, if a Tank Warrior rolls on this sword and a Fury/Arms Warrior roll on this weapon they will both get the +100 roll bonus, so don't get furious if a tank rolls and wins this weapon, Blizzard wasn't able to program the role bonus properly so that only Death Knight tanks would get the +100 roll from 2-handers

My little test as fury MHing this, over 6 minutes:
85 ticks for 10.9k
8 crits for 10.6k

The pet accounted for 15-20% (17%) of my overall damage. Its also possible to summon 2 tentacles at a time.

After the December 13th, 2011 maintenance, it's become exclusive for Death Knight, Paladin, Warrior

As a part of the on-going evaluation of Looking For Raid and the loot system, we have recently implemented a change to the Looking For Raid Need Plus system. Weapons, trinkets, rings, neck pieces, shields, offhand items, and the Robe of Glowing Stone are now class-restricted to their intended users. With the speed at which a Raid Finder group moves through a zone, we’ve found that it makes it challenging for players to evaluate loot decisions – by class restricting these items, we hope that the natural behavior will have a more positive set of results for everyone involved. This change will not apply to normal or heroic raid or dungeon loot rules.

The proc, named Summon Tentacle of the Old Ones, summons a tentacle that channels a spell that does around 13.8k damage per second and slows movement speed by 50% for 3 seconds, and it repeatedly channels this spell for it's 10 second duration. The spell is identical to the Mind Flay used by Krik'Thir the Gatewatcher in normal mode Azjol-Nerub.

The PPM of this proc is around 0.8 procs per minute, with NO internal cooldown. with each proc of this weapon generating around 138k damage, and with a PPM of 0.8, the damage per minute comes out to be 110.4k damage per minute if we divide this by sixty we get the static dps.

TL;DR the static dps of this proc is about 1.8k damage per second, along with a 50% movement speed slow while the tentacle is up.

For Unholy Death Knights and most likely other str 2hand dps, that makes the raid finder version of this weapon better than normal mode Experimental Specimen Slicer and normal mode Ataraxis, Cudgel of the Warmaster

I have this weapon for almost a week now, had enough time to test it and I am able to confirm that:

1. The tentacle inherits your crit and hit chance (it will miss sometimes if you have 8% hit chance, since it uses a spell to deal damage thus requiring 18% hit)
2. It can proc multiple times from a skill like whirlwind and/or bladestorm (had 7 spawns after pulling the whole room before and where Moroes stands in Kara - seeing him getting gibbed by 7 mindflays was kind of amusing, I must say.)
3. While fightning Ragnaros, the tentacles will not attack him when they spawn on either side of the platform - however, they will mind flay him normally when in the middle
4. There are no problems with dealing damage by the tentacles if 2 or more spawn
5. Damaged done by mind flay performed by the tentacle scales with curse of elements (and similar skills) aswell as any +dmg modifiers present on the target (like warlord zon'ozz or hagara)

Another edit:
After sticking with this sword for most of the Dragon Soul, it appears that the tentacle's behavior was either patched, or I was wrong from the beginning - it will damage a target which was hit by an ability proccing the tentacle, be it a "cleave" type attack or whirlwind. Also I would like to add that each arms warrior mastery proc can spawn an additional tentacle :)

Is tentacles from 390 ilvl and 403 ilvl same, and do same dmg or there is som differences between them?

You can have more then two tentacles at a time appear. Went to Scarlet Monastery Cathedral to get artifacts for the Darkmoon Faire. Pulled the whole Cathedral and used whirlwind. I had five tentacles appear at one time from one sword.

This weapon is highly viable in PvP as well as PvE. Losing 1-2% Resilience doesn't compare to being able to burst down players with a cast as a warrior (especially against damnable feral druids and death knight who dodge and parry everything respectively).

I'd suggest transmoging this weapon to something else so that people will not suspect getting tentacle raped, players have become keen to switch to the tentacles now because they suspect a 2H wielder to have such a weapon.

As a warrior you can intervene to the Tentacle to get away and then charge back into combat (Not to mention you might just save your tentacle from a shadow bolt or something similar).

A tentacle can take a hunters trap for you (Although its hard to maneuver in such a way that it will, if it does it's always great).

The slow for warriors can save you in nearly any fight.

With the initial and 6 following attacks from Bladestorm and Sweeping strikes, a warrior has an extremely high chance of procing a tentacle.

Tentacles can proc off of ANY melee damage, including heroic throw, shattering throw, heroic leap, intercept, even retaliation.

Seeing as Warrior's are pretty bad this patch I'd say the most needed order would go Warrior > Unholy > Ret. But then again that's from a VERY biased and almost entirely PvP perspective. But remember, the only class a warrior can beat in a duel is a Warlock (Assuming both players are good, any class can beat an experienced Warrior in 4.3). If you see a warrior that's hurting in his mainhand slot and you have a decent weapon, take pity on him and pass.

Blue post stating that they have hotfixed Seal of Truth so that it would NOT have a chance to proc Gurth.

There are numbers flying around currently, but it will be up to the Logs to see if this was a justifiable move for the sake of balancing the proc rate, or an unfounded one.

Either way, this is an unusual move considering the history of SoT (SoV) and proc rates for weapons/trinkets.

I understand that the spell that the tentacle uses can be resisted... I was slightly interested in using this for PvP, and I was wondering if anyone can tell me how useful/useless this proc is for PvP, and also if the spell the tentacle uses can be affected by spell penetration? I have 220 for my PvP set on my DK, and was wondering if this would still get resisted even with SP that high?

This weapon is amazing for all 2h wielding classes (It's even exceptional for tank DKs), but I would have to say unholy dks get more use out of it than ANY other class. I'm not saying other classes shouldn't roll or want/need it, I am just stating that unholy dks possess potential for the weapon that no other class/spec does. The tentacle’s mind flay ability is directly affected by unholy's Dreadblade passive, also at this moment crit is better than master for unholy dks UNLESS that dk possess this weapon.
Also, here is some helpful info for any unholy dk who does not know their stat allocation.

It's also worth noticing, that as long as the target is within max range of the tentacle, it completely ignores Line of Sight.

Be warned, if you leave during any Raid Finder fights, you will be locked for the remaining id in terms of loot. This happened to me while I was farming this weapon, had to go to lunch and didnt want to be afk during the loot distribution, still got locked to the boss. Either try to stay afk, dont leave group and wait for loot distribution, or try to make sure you dont have to go during the fight!

Something has to be done about need rolling. I rolled second on this sword, but the person who won it was a tank pally who ALREADY had one equipped. The D@uche then gave it away to someone else - and told me he felt stupid afterward for having done so. Blizz should figure out a way that if you already have the item like an epic sword, and you can't dual-wield, you won't be able to need on it, just greed it. But even so, I'm still tired of dual-wielders getting a second weapon I don't even have. Dual-wielders winning a weapon I don't have has happened about 5 times in my 3 years playing. Time heals all wounds but these instances sure do sting, especially when you can't run a raid more than once a week and you have to compete with 5 to 10 people needing it as well.

i'd say that goes for armor too. I have been guilty of accidentally needing on armor that I already had because the raid is just moving so fast, I don't recall what I have.

The rule should be, if you already have a piece of armor or weapon equipped or in your bags, you can't need on a second one, only greed it.

This weapon plus T12 warrior set is a nice transmog. And the best part, it matches well and looks great. Only thing you would have to do is farm some JP and do an older cata raid for the shoulder token.

Incase you are looking for your Tentacle's dps on recount, remember: it counts as a pet and is tracked seperately from your attacks just below.

Blizzard needs to do something about the loot system in this game, (I am a level 85 ret paladin, i dont like PvE, i prefer PvP) and i have been after this sword for a month, it has dropped every week, it has dropped twice in one run a couple times, and i will tell you who i lost it too, Frost dk who was dual wielding, who then traded it off to another member for a item he needed, (He wasnt planing on using it, he just needed it as a bargaining chip) than i lost it to a holy paladin and a prot warrior, one run, and a couple of other dps, i dont mind losing it to other dps who need it, but when i lose it to a tank or healer, or someone who needed on it just as a bargaining chip, really makes me mad,

Just did LFR and won the sword as a tank, Was planning on keeping it until the whispers hit me.
Made some guy dance, then take all his gear off and spank a gnome for it. Totally worth it!

An interesting note i have recently observed.

During an 8 man Heroic Lich King 10 man guild run last night, we found out rather painfully that the proc from this weapon when it is procced when defile goes down in the vicinity of the tentacle causes the defile to spread until the whole platform subsequently wiping us. So just a fair warning before doing a run for guild achievement/transmog, it would be wise not to use this weapon :)

Fury Warriors, do NOT Duel Wield Guth or equip one in your Off Hand. It only procs from weapon hits so moves such as Bloodthirst, Slam, Colossus Smash, Cleave and Heroic Strike, which all are counted as MH moves, will NOT proc your off-hand. Only RB, Auto-attacks and WW will.

This is not for a Blood Dk but is for a unholy dk mainly because that the damage of gurth is increased from a unholy dk mastery
