Seems to be a 30 second ICD with a fairly high proc rate when not on CD, and the attack scales 1:1 with AP meaning if you have 20k AP, the attack is 32-38k. Possibly slightly lower ICD with a lower proc chance as I did see a few 28-29 second gaps between procs but I was having slight lag issues so it might just be that. The attack seemed to pretty much go off like clockwork every 28-32 seconds.

The proc is a chance for 30111 physical hit on melee or ranged attacks now.
Im a MM hunter with about 388 ilvl gear. Second trinket is H hungerer. Not sure, but with limited testing right after getting this, it seems like normal matrix might have better initial dps. This might change in raid because of movement. Need more testing I guess.

It's critting for around 65k for me (sub rogue).
It will probably get nerfed soon for pvp imbalancement.

Bare in mind the proc from this trinket could be dodged by a boss, making it slightly less useful for none expertise capped classes than you may think.

Edit, as per my post below, this has been hotfixed (at least on the LFR version, not checked the normal or heroic yet)

Good Trinket? Yes.
BiS? Maybe
BiS w/ Starcatcher Compass? Probably not.

DW's trinket (WoU) will be BiS for almost everyone, changing the primary stat for your class (Str/Int/Spirit/Agi/Dodge). I'm quite certian almost every agi user will prefer it over this or Starcatcher, and I think this will beat Starcatcher for now.

Info on each trinket:

Wrath of Unchaining: 88 agility proc, Stack to 10, 10s duration (872 agility average @ 99% uptime)
StarCatcher Comp: 458 agility, ~2900 haste proc (458 agility, ~580 haste average)
Vial of Shadows: 458 agility, 30-60k proc dmg per 30s (458 agility, 1-2k dps boost)

Removing the base 458 agi, DW's Trink gives +412 Agi, SC Comp gives +580 haste avg and this (VoS) gives 1-2k dps.

Also: If SC Compass does beat this out for most people, it may still be BiS for specs such as Beast Mastery which have massive self AP buffs (25%). In BM's case, it would increase the output of the dps portion of this trinket from 1-2k to 1.25-2.5k, not to mention increase it another 10% with Bestial Wrath if it applies to this proc.

Lastly, if you average 30k dps, this trinket will give you a 3-6% dps boost minimum. Seems better than ~600 haste rating, but check your theorycrafting.

This trinket is godly (and in my opinion vastly overpowered) for sub rogues in particular for pvp. Why? They have this neat little talent called "Find Weakness" which lowers the targets armor by 70% for 10 seconds which is better than what any other class can do. They also do increased damage after breaking stealth, they have the highest AP of any other class in pvp and they have the highest chance to crit. So what you might say? Well, this trinket crits for 50-60k on 4.5k resil PLATE targets in arena which is more than twice the amount than any other ability the rogues have. Basically this means a rogue can kill ANY target during a sap/bomb with the only exception of the trinket not critting (though it will still hit for a good 20-30k).

I really hope this trinket will get fixed soon, just can't stand getting farmed down by those ret/rogue-herpderp-teams any more with the rogue just 2-shotting my 4.5k resil geared warrior partner.

got the trinket the other night on normal mode. would have never thought to get it soon since the drop rate is really low. the trinket itself is really great especially for an enhancer who does not have too many options since the valor point trinket and the one from blackhorn have haste on them. nonetheless I hope they'll fix it for pvp without cutting its pve value.

EDIT: this information is now somewhat obsolete as of Tuesday January 31st as Vial of Shadows has had the burst nerfed but overall DPS seems to remain the same.

Finally dropped for me last night. Looted from 10 man Morchok.

PVE perspective as Combat rogue:
did some Dps testing on the raid dummy with a stop watch clocking 5 mins and 30 seconds. Recount shows...
21,566.8 DPS
11 "Lightning Strike" procs:
10 hits - averaging 24010
1 crit - 51796
totaling at 4.1% of my total damage done on the dummy.

Note: i have a ss for verification but wont allow my link to show cause i am a new member, will edit with link when i can.

PVP perspective as Sub rogue:
switched out the s11 on use agility trinket with Vial, and i must say... i saw that more often than not, the Vial 'Lightning Strike' would proc during my opener's 'Find Weakness.'

Dueling a 4.2k resil warrior (10+ duels) yielded these results on my recount:
25 total procs
Lowest hit: 10,211
Highest hit: 34,857
Lowest crit: 12,219
Highest crit: 43,807

i can only imagine what it hits for on cloth during FW.

This is in response to the comment about feral tanks.

I have the LFR version of this, and the proc is scaling with vengeance buff just like normal attack power, as well as getting the extra crit chance out of pulverize. ~~I haven't tested the exact numbers recently enough to post them, but at 40k attack power, it's making up about 5-6% of my 18-20k dps,~~ is giving me a huge threat jump at the start of each pull, and every other proc usually times with enrage's 15% damage buff. I'll do some quick tests on gamon and ~~be back within a few hours with more information.~~ update after each kill. (for those of you alli who dont know about gamon, he's an attackable level 85 mob in orgrimmar with about 2 million hp)

Character info: Shokanu @ Shu'halo server, item level 388, agility>mastery>hit/expertise (both capped)>crit, 34k attack power with vengeance, only MotW (5% stats) and LotP (5% crit) buffs

Gamon data: 6 runs
105 seconds average duration, 18.4k average dps, lightning strike at 7% of dps, 3 procs per kill (one run had 4)
Hits: 11
27.5k min, 30.8k average, 37.8k max
Crits: 8
61.7k min, 66.5k average, 77.5k max (one run it procced before vengeance built up for a 40k crit)

That's all I have time for now, it seems to be fairly consistent with those numbers. Hope this helped, =)

p.s. Keep in mind that this is the LFR version, which scales about 10% less from AP than the normal.

p.p.s Was in a dungeon today with all relevant dps buffs, and it procced during CD's and a rogues ToT for 119k crit. Needless to say, seeing that made my day, =D

Vial of Shadows Ranged Attack Power Bug
Just want to confirm: Vial of Shadows working only with melee attack power and not ranged attack power is indeed a bug. Barring unforeseen complications, this will be fixed in an upcoming hotfix.

The newest patch 4.3.2 brought a much needed change to this item.

The new ICD is now 10sec, with the avg dmg done of 8k+, Crit avg 16,5k (with 20k atkpower)

so in a combat (including the critic`s)

1mim: 8k x (6-y) + y16,5k
2mim: 8k x (12-y) + y16,5k
5mim: 8k x (40-y) + y16,5k
10mim: 8k x (60-y) + y16,5k

on y=the Critic ticks...using yours Critic chance modifying, on the first line for example , y=6 x Criticchance%

the dmg can be better on raids buff`s...but using this formula u can reach the avg dmg that u vial could pull off

Could be better if i put the Atkp modifier on the formula =), but i don`t know the right value

soooo, they said they were nerfing the dmg down to a third with it proccing 3 times as often, but im also noticing that its not scaling with attack power anymore, cuz when i switch to sub the dmg doesnt go up. did they say they were doing this or is it a tooltip error?

Got this tonight just messing with some testing the tooltip of 4023-6042 probably is not entirely accurate. And the in-game figure is probably also off a bit. On level 85 Training dummy no buffs(other than Aspect of Hawk)/no debuffs/only trinket equipped on my hunter these are the numbers I got after a while:

As survival 5130 AP
Lowest 4090(seems fairly accurate)
Highest 5289
Averaged 4690(rounded, was pretty close)

Didn't test extensively as MM but numbers were pretty close(little bit higher with 5469 AP) so 8.00 baseline Mastery doesn't seem to effect the damage for Survival.

The numbers listed on here, mostly naked, are close but lean toward the 4023 side. The tooltip in-game, mostly naked, is a bit optimistic.

Also doesn't seem to Dodge/Parry/Miss with 0 Exp/0% Hit I landed all of my naked hits from the front.

So, Question, but why do the name of the item, the name of the proc, and the effect of the proc have nothing to do with each other. The item is called vial of SHADOWS, the Proc is named LIGHTINING strike, and it does PHYSICAL damage. What gives?
