this would be BEYOND nice for an spriest. once an orb is consumed( and we generate em thruout a fight, our DoT dmg gets a HUGE boost from mastery (10% b4 mastery is even calculated into it). my personal DoT dmg is upped to about 31% once theralion's mirror goes off. and b4 the orbs are consumed, our mind blast dmg skyrockets for a base of about 10k, to well over 30k for 3 orbs. so a constant mastery boost like this should be really nice.

Without wanting to incite the usual emotion that surrounds these items I think this trinket will be really nice for disc priests ^^. Because of the holy fire dot, that you will be using to atonement heal / dps with, it should give you a pretty high uptime.
Combine that with the changes that they have in mind for mastery as disc and this creates some really nice synergy. You can holy fire / smite heal to build up stacks from the trinket / evangelism, then when you need to switch to PoH mode you have a super pimped divine aegis.

I see this as slap in the face of all warlocks , NECROMANTIC focus that grans int but has MASTERY as stacking stat (which is the worse stat for warlocks )

They need to change stacking stat to either crit or haste or just replace it with On use effect

The only mage spec that would want mastery is Arcane, a pity they don't have any spells that are classified as periodic. Arcane Missiles is channelled and they have zero DoTs

Looks like this will be dropping from Baleroc.
Speaking on behalf of warlocks, it looks like this is simming below DMC-Volcano and heroic Bell with the heroic version doing a little better. Far from best in slot, but if you don't have anything better...

Some trinkets received in Firelands (Apparatus of Khaz'goroth, Necromantic Focus, Vessel of Acceleration, and Matrix Restabilizer) are displaying incorrect stat values in their buff and item tooltips, the values applied are correct.

Coming back to this trinket, I think I may want it as resto shaman.

For 25m raiding, Focused Insight is a bit of a must have, for buffed Healing Rain. Even in 10m it's pretty heavily situational. I would definitely wear this trinket for Staghelm for the Scorpion phases, on Beth'tilac where I heal down below, possibly Shannox and Ragnaros. (Baleroc is a most likely no, I've never had to really heal the tanks on Alysrazor because I do the interrupts.) Eye of Blazing Power will be wanted by every healer, and Jaws of Defeat is very mediocre for us, even with more haste than the scenario put forth by Jadiera, I'm not sure how I feel about that. Darkmoon: Tsunami was so expensive, and Fall of Mortality never dropped for me. Our guild doesn't run T11 heroics either.

Theory I looked at.

I wouldn't take it from a caster DPS however. Not even a mage.

This trinket DOES proc from Flamestrike, giving arcane mages a way to proc this amazing trinket. Against multiple targets, flamestrike will proc the mastery for each target it hits, per tick.

Replying as a fire mage who sports this trinket for a few weeks now.
This trinket is really great. You have to consider, that after you reach 25% haste with raid buffs, mastery becomes our second best stat after crit (for my current equip simc gives crit a 1.75 scale factor and mastery 1.28 with haste trailing back at 0.21).

To put it in different terms: apart from the base intellect which is already nice, the proc increases your DoT damage by 6.1%. Now consider, that roughly 40% of your damage comes from DoTs. You see, where I'm going with this? All in all, the proc alone comes down to a nice 2.44% DPS increase with no luck involved.

Now for some observations:

Opening a fight with a hard casted Pyroblast followed by a Living Bomb will get you to 10 stacks in 12 seconds. Landing a crit with Fireball during this period will edge one or two seconds off.
Flamestrike is a completely different matter entirely: its ground effect is considered a DoT. Therefore you will gain 1 stack per mob in the effect radius per second. In most situations, the stack will be full before you can say derp.
Flame Orb is not considered a DoT and therefore it yields no stacks.
While being cycloned by Majordomo Staghelm, the trinket will fail to buff you if you have DoTs ticking on him. Your present stacks will not vanish immediately, but while you are cycloned, you will not gain additional stacks and the timer is not refreshed.

This is what I think as well. It seems that people are overlooking the large amount of intellect present on this piece. I wish there was more support for this as a BiS item. I still have yet to receive it, but I should shortly, as long as it drops. Then I'll be using Necromantic Focus along with DMC:V until I can replace DMC with the Rag Trink.

I am considering using this as atonement specced priest ... if I use Holy Fire on CD, it keeps on 10 stacks all the time, ALSO I noticed that I got all 10 stacks in like less than 10 sec ...
I'm not sure if it would actually work in a raid, as I tried out in a dungeon, and I also don't play disc for raiding, but it would surely be fun to give it a try.

I wonder how effect this trinket would be for a resto druid? The intellect is great (more mana, mana regen, better innervate, etc...) And to get the proc, its not that hard to throw a moonfire on the mob/boss every 10 sec. Mastery is still a fairly good stat for heals.

I won it last night as nobody wanted it. I'll have to try it out. And If I don't use it for heals, it'll go in the bank and I might use it when I have a go at Lazerchicken. Nice to have options as a druid. :)
