Reference to a character from the Superman franchise. Quoting wikipedia :

General Zod appears in Superman and Superman II, portrayed by actor Terence Stamp as a pathologically arrogant and pompous aristocrat, almost bored with his incredible powers and disappointed with the ease of overtaking Earth. Zod's line "Come to me, son of Jor-El! Kneel before Zod!" has become part of pop culture. So much so that IN 2009 issue 7 of the 15 story Superman: World of New Krypton title copied this with the phrase "Kneel Before Kal-El" on the cover. Terence Stamp's portrayal has led to Zod becoming one of Superman's best-known villains, and fans have come to view his portrayal as the definitive version of the character. Motion picture director Richard Lester inspired much of Zod (and company)'s destruction of downtown Metropolis. One scene involved his heat vision being reflected by Superman. Standing in front of a tan salon billboard, he comedically imprinted his silhouette over the bikini-wearing figure; the rest of the poster charred. The movie version of General Zod is rated #58 on Wizard magazine's "100 Greatest Villains of All Time" list.

Interestingly, there was already an easter egg to Zod in World of Warcraft:

During the Ahn'Qiraj War Effort, there was an orc ambassador in the city of Ironforge by the name of General Zog. If you targeted him and used the /kneel command, he would acknowledge your obedience.

As stated above, this drops from Lady Deathwhisper in 25-man Icecrown Citadel Raid.

For those curious about the functionality of the proc, my guild's SV Hunter won this last night, and has reported the following:

The proc has no internal cooldown (or a very short one) - he had two procs within 10 seconds of each other.
The proc can activate off of special ranged attacks (a la Explosive Shot, Aimed Shot, Chimera Shot, etc).
The proc is taking into account ammo, Ranged Attack Power, and the like - for MM Hunters, this proc will hit about as hard as our Silencing Shots.
The proc CAN crit, respects your normal ranged crit rate, and counts as a ranged special (meaning it enjoys bonuses from Mortal Shots).

The only disappointment with this bow that I can think of is that it does not force you to automatically /kneel randomly. :|

Edit: Oh, and WoWArmory reports a 25-50% droprate of this! :D

I say there should be a "use" effect on it, you press it and everyone in like 15yd kneels and it does an emote like "Everyone kneels at General "

I agree, I would love that this bow had a use, much like that flute effect that made everyone dance, when you use it everyone in the area kneels down :) that would be so cool.

Be careful all hunters that get this bow. There is currently a bug with the bow in that it resets your auto shot "swing timer".

Over a 10 minute test of just auto shots with no haste procs I lost nearly 10 auto shots. So be warned.

I can't believe I'm doing this. No one will see it, no one cares, and no one knows my real identity anyway. But here I go.

When it comes to weapons, whether ranged or melee, It's not about the top end. Top end is a terrible "stat" unless at least one of these is true:

The weapon has the minimum damage to back up the top end.
The top end is REALLY high. Like "look! Up in the sky!" high.

Both of these boost the average damage. See, if your weapon's range is 1-1000, the average is 500.5 ((1+1000)/2). Okay, so, over a nice period of time, you're going to get lots of 1s (not counting AP, here) and lots of 1000s (not counting crits, either!), and if you squish all those hits together to see how much damage a hit is typically doing, it'll be right around 500.5. Super!

Now pretend you get a different weapon, maybe on a greed roll, because it's got a lower top end and why the hell would you need it over your sweet 1000 top end weapon? So this new one, we'll call it Clark's Stuttering Lanabow, has a range of 700-800. What a load of garbage. This new weapon is like green kryptonite for my e-peen.

OR IS IT?

See, the thing is, this one has an average damage of 750. You'll see lots of 700s and lots of 800s. You may miss your delicious 1000s, but the loss of all those terrible 1s will more than make up for it!

Still with me, Smallville? Right. Same deal with instant attacks that work directly off weapon damage.

Congratulations. You are now equipped to properly judge weapons' damage ranges! You can grab that 720-972 and find yourself wanting to leap tall buildings in joy! You can vendor that 10-990 before it makes you blow up a planet in disgust!

Now, if you find one that's 1-10000 or something, keep it for its 5000.5 average. Because that's pretty über, man.

I can't see why this proc could be terrible. From what I've been seeing, Quick Shot (bow's proc) is around 1.5% of my total damage (sometimes it reaches 2%, sometimes it doesn't pass1%-luck factor). Anyway , on a 6k DPS fight (and this is going low) it should be worth 90dps. Don't think any bow stats can provide that dps alone.

Comparing this weapon to the heroic version of Talonstrike, which Hunters may also have if they can't get the tribute chest from Heroic Anub: https://www.wowhead.com/cata/compare=50034;46995

H. Talonstrike average damage is: (564 + 784) / 2 = 674

ZRL average damage range is: (542 + 887) / 2 = 714.5

Zod's is beating out H. Talonstrike in that regard, though don't forget you're going to lose:

6 Agi
49 AP
32 ArP
32 Haste
1 Blue Socket

In return you gain the bow proc, which doesn't seem too, too bad. However, from what I have heard (and this info may be outdated so don't kill me over it) the proc is equaling (on average) to only about 2% of your overall damage in a fight. Also keep in mind that while the loss of haste might not be terrible, Hunters will be losing a fair amount of it due to gear itemization with tier sets and even some of the crafted/badge gear.

Even with the IAotH bonus you will more than likely not hit the soft haste cap for Steady Shot being at 1.5 seconds to match the GCD. It also means your auto-shots will be going off slower, thus leading to less chances during a fight to have the two-piece tier bonus (which Hunters should be getting) proc. Don't forget you'll also be losing a socket, which would allow for more customization in terms of wanting Agi or ArP, or heck...even hit if you were running a little low.

NOW, to me, losing all of those stats for a bow proc doesn't seem all that worth it to me, but that is just me. Of course, if you're using a lesser weapon than H. Talonstrike or the BRK 1000 then by all means take Zod's and be happy. :)

Should also be noted that, like the Wild Quiver proc in the MM tree, this can cause weapon durability damage.

Just got this last night, and i must say I am sorely disappointed.

I ran 5 one minute raid rotation rounds against the heroic training dummy in Iron Forge and my average DPS with this bow is 3489. When doing the same one minute rotations with my https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=49493 i came up with an average DPS of 3502.

This is with zero buffs, pet on passive, and using 91.5 ammo in both. Both bow and gun skills maxed out.

The proc was also very disappointing, resulting in an average of 2.1% of the overall damage.

As a Dwarf Survival Hunter, knowing I get 1% extra crit with the gun raising my crit lvl to 54.93, I will stick with my trusty Rifled Blastershot Launcher until can get my hands on a https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=51385 or a https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=47521.

I must add though, this would probably be a fantastic weapon for MM hunters, will respec my dual talent in the near future and post the results.

I've had this bow for several weeks now, and it doesn't appear to have any internal cooldown. It gives you a chance at proccing for every target you hit, so if you volley or multi shot a group of mobs you can potentially get several simultaneous procs.

I recently received this bow and have noticed a significant increase in my dps. I disagree that the 2% damage contribution from the proc is insignificant. I think it is substantial. Remember, stat/damage wise everything in this game is a series of baby steps that, when taken as a whole, result in large performance increases. If you analyze a typical recount result from a fight you may be in 6th place, but in reality less than 2% behind the person in 1st place. I would say that it is rare that there is much more than a 5% discrepancy between the top damage done and the lowest damage done (Assuming everyone lived... and do not count pugs where potentially very bad/undergeared players might be involved). So, while taken in that context, a 2% damage increase, from simply a weapon proc is, to me, rather significant. I tend to doubt that the stats lost from this bow would amount to 2% of your damage.

It is a nice proc, and a minor damage buff, not so much DPS as damage.

However still doesn't proc as much as Nibelung and Bryntroll which continues to be a disappointment, when I see 3 Valkyre casting however yet to get a proc off mine.

For what it's worth, the bow says it has a 4% proc, but in testing it seems to be closer to 2%. The proc is called "Quick Shot" and if you've got recount, you can just set yourself up to auto attack a target dummy and track the proc rate.

the dmg is the only thing that makes this bow worth while, the proc out of 27 million dmg i did in an ICC 10 run it did close to 100k dmg, very worthless proc

I already had the Njoldnar Bone Bow when I received Zod's this past week.
I'll keep this short:
After dummy testing, and running some raids and using both: I want to throw Zod's in the Forge Fire of Ironforge.
The Njoldnar has a better overall output than Zod's. The proc on Zod's is nigh useless, when compared to a weapon with plain simple stats instead of a goofy proc.
That is all.

I'm sorry, but alot of you seem to have missed something, because it says RANGED ATTACKS. Now from what I can tell, this includes your ranged special abilities. Correct me if I'm wrong but does this not proc off of your 15k killshots or 10k chimera shots? And would this not also be affected by your ArP? This would probably also include Wild Quiver. Then all your @#$% procs and it does nearly double its originally intended damage. With a 5% proc rate this would mean that depending on your luck, 1/20 OF EACH of your chimera shots, aimed shots, auto shots, wild quiver, and steady shots proc the effect. So then you get to do calculations that consider the damage you do on average with all the aforementioned shots w/ a shot getting off every 1.5 secs and then factor in the auto shots in addition to that, and I'm not about to go factor in haste to the auto shots nor calculate the chance total of this actually proccing. Those of you that wanna kill your brain, go ahead =). From other standpoints, the rare BM DPS is also benefitting from this, although less than an MM hunter. Survival though, I'm not sure if this procs off explosive shot, due to the fact that it is pretty much a DoT that causes your arcane shot damage 3x over two seconds. So to recap, Marks=DEFINITE upgrade under most circumstances, BM=Kinda an upgrade, though not as huge, Surv=Questionable (If it procs off explosive shot, which I am not sure of, definitely an upgrade).

I'd like to add that when people say it procs off explosive shot, they mean it has a chance to proc off the ticks, I've had it go off on the second explosion before.

I decided to test this bow and compare to Njorndar Bone Bow

So here are the resoults of auto-shooting on Heroic Training Dummy (MM specc,, Aspect of the Dragonhawk and Trueshot Aura up, cds procced: Grim Toll-trinket, Expose Weakness-talent, Frostforged Champion-ring, Quick shots-talent)

Total Auto shots: 300
Auto Shots: 300 done, 705629 damage, 83,8% overall damage, about 2352 damage per shot
Wild Quilver: 46 done, 119221 damage, 14,2% overall damage, about 2591 damage per shot
Quick Shots (Zod's procces): 16 done, 16860 damage, 2,0% overall damage, about 1053 damage per shot
Overall dps: 1302

After equiping Njorndar Bone Bow:

Total Auto shots: 300
Auto Shots: 300 done, 673997 damage, 86,8% overall damage, about 2246 damage per shot
Wild Quilver: 38 done, 102457 damage, 13,2% overall damage, about 2696 damage per shot
Overall dps: 1134

Well, i created this test inspired by my friend, also hunter, who told me that Zod gives less overall dps than its 10 man version - Njordar - because this pro isnt very frequent and Njordar Bone Bow gives a few more stats. I made this post to show all the people with similiar idea that they are totally wrong:D

If no hunter is in raid of course, but theres no use for rogue to roll on this, because of lack of stats. Rogue dont have any use of DPS and proc, am i right? Any other ranged weapon would be way better for him

I've done just that. and indeed, when i'd fired exactly 100 shots, there had been 4 quick shots. perhaps you're confusing the damage done, which, as its half weapon damage, will be around 2%. for me, at 100 shots it was more like 1.7.. perhaps a bigger sample will round it out a little more.

Interestingly, Stakethrower dropped for me earlier today, so i wanted to compare the stats on it with this bow. I should note i'm a dwarf, so wanted to see if the racial helped matters. I ran a simple 5 minute autoshot on a HC training dummy, only buffs were hunter's mark on the dummy, and i happened to have a flask of endless rage on me at the time.

zod's repeating longbow - total damage done 452,097 (54.8% crit / 1497.0dps) - 158 shots (2861 average dps per shot)
stakethrower - total damage done 439,996 (58.6% crit / 1457.2dps) - 144 shots (3055.52 average damage per shot)

This is the proc Quick Shot from the bow, giving me an additional 2% damage in a boss fight. Had to look it up. I am sure the heroic would be similar since my dps would be more than 7K and it should scale accordingly.

It just did 1.4% of my dps in Saurfang 10 man reg.
I did 10490 dps.

Test of the Effect--
-317 shots fired that could proc it.
-15 procs.
~8 hits (avg. 1485)
~7 crits (avg. 2997)
~ Just slightly (1-2% dmg under) 50% of my avg auto shot crits and hits.

I have seen this bow proc off of freezing arrow even if you arent targeting the person, me and my partner were doing twos and the arrow froze the target then the zods proc flew to him, i unfortunately dont have a pic or anything but he was not targeting the freezing arrow target. As stated before it procs off of scatter too.

Not sure whether or not this is just since patch 4.01 or not, but from what I'm seeing the PvP bow Wrathful Gladiator's Longbow is actually a better option DPS wise now.

Compared to Zod's the Wrathful Gladiators Longbow provides:
+17 Agi
+26 Sta
+34 Resilience (0.36%)
+34 Crit (0.74%)
+130 Ranged Min Damage

I guess the proc of Zod's doesn't outweigh the benefit you get from the other stats on the pvp weapon.

Kind of sad considering how long it took me to score Zod's longbow, and that now I can get something better just by dropping 2550 honor points (currently no arena rating requirment on the pvp bow).

Not sure it was Blizzards intention to make a pvp weapon better than it's pve counterpart, or whether its just an anomoly cause by the stat conversions that happened due to the patch.
