I know this will probaby get so many negative hits, but here goes: would say that this weapon could be used for a MS warrior and/or Ret pally. I know the AP screams Hunter and the weapon is a little slow, but the status are really nice.

Even with my current stats at level 70 this weapon is already +60 dps over Demise.

Seems this will be like the Shivering Felspine, amazingly itemized for both hunters and ret pallys, and not too shabily for warriors I don't doubt.

To bad the weapons and gear blizzard "designs" for plate wearing dps never is itemized WELL for us, as leather Agi + crit rating gear is nearly everytime better for us dps wise, and for raiding that is really ALL that matters, as any dmg we take is AoE and not affected by armor anyways.

I do however painfully understand that we cannot have leather till the leatherwearers have the items so, else they'd have nothing and we'd have the "easy to get" plate and some of their leathers at the same time (hello waiting for just one more cursed vision to never drop), but still BAD design flaw on blizzards part ...

Was hoping with all the bitching that perhaps they would give that a change, but apparently not -,-

I wouldn't be afraid to say that is a great MS weapon. It's slow, one of the slowest weapons in Wrath (compared to the 3.4-3.5 speed of axes/maces/swords) It has crit, agi (which= more crit) for all those tards that say agi is useless for warriors. haste and ap. Put a superior savagery on it, and you're good to go. With that much crit on a weapon, it opens you up more to the haste dps plate which generally has more ap or str than crit. Granted i'd pass to a hunter first, but still, gimme gimme gimme! Besides, i've always loved pole arms, i'm glad new pole arms don't have 2.2 speed, wtf happened in BC.

This weapon is use able for more than only hunters, it's also useful for retri palla's, dk's and ms warrs.
The speed is very nice and the stats are also nice for melee.

Indeed this can be used as a MS weapon, I how ever would like to see Blizz implement new polearms more along the lines of f.e. a good oldie like: https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=18871 which truly has the stats for warriors. (And has a good old brutal look to it).

I got dissapointed with TBC when I realised my MS Warr wasn't going to be using a Polearm :(

From a purely "huntard weapon" perspective, let's compare this to alternatives around the same gear level.

The most likely alternative is the Claymore of Ancient Power, also available in 10-man Naxxramas (from the Four Horsemen's chest). Both have an itemlevel of 200. Exclusively looking at Attack Power, the Claymore comes out on top with an extra 28 AP (this is the AP from agility with a 1 agi=1 AP conversion rate, added to the 'pure' AP). Looking at crit, at first sight one might assume the Claymore also wins by a mile. But, factoring in the extra crit from the additional 26 agility on the Wraith Spear, it's a very close call indeed. For the Claymore this is 2.48% (1.71 +0.77 ), for the Spear 2.38% (1.3 +1.08 ), meaning only a 0.1% difference.

So what it comes down to is this: do you want to exchange 0.1% crit and 28 AP for 45 haste rating? My guess is yes in general, although your answer will obviously be determined by personal factors. Are you a survival hunter with the 15% extra agi talent? In that case, go for the Wraith Spear. Are you in a 10-man group which provides the 10% extra AP buff, but lacks a 10% stats buff such as Blessing of Kings? Then you might want to lean towards the Claymore. More importantly, have you hit the sweet spot (<1.5 second cast time on Steady Shot, which is 523 haste rating for MM/Survival hunters, and none for hunters with Serpent's Swiftness) regarding haste? If you have, haste rating in general decreases in value by quite a bit, although as I'm not a theorycrafter, I'm not entirely sure how it compares to the aforementioned 0.1% crit and 28 AP. If you haven't, remember that haste rating provides the largest per point dps increase of all the dps stats. In the end, a lot of it obviously comes down to what drops (first). The difference is quite small indeed, and both are excellently itemised weapons, so you can't really go wrong with either.

Then, of course, there's Black Ice, which drops from 10-man Eye of Eternity. It's a comparable weapon even though the item level is 13 levels higher. The main difference, as you can see, is the loads of extra hit dumped on that weapon. So whether you're going for that one or not really depends on if you need the hit to get to the cap (197 hit rating with Focused Aim, 296 without) more than anything else. That, and the fact it just looks badass. In my honest opinion.

The dps on death's bite is better than this weapon though, however this weapon boasts better speed for ms warrs/retadins. It's all a matter of preference. Get strength with Death's bite, buff with kings. Get more crit and bigger crits with the slow speed from this.

You do have to consider that most (if not all) raiding wars are going to be getting armored to the teeth now, which should hopefully get more warriors wearing plate to optimize stats. An iLevel 200 epic leather chest has 564 armor, the same chest in plate has 2241 armor, which comes out to a 28 AP difference just based on the fact that you chose plate over leather. Though this can't counteract simply poor itemization, it should be able to push it in dps wars' favors.

EDIT: Not to mention that not all aoe is magical damage, either, and nothing can improve your dps more than not being dead.

Just curious, is this weapon better than https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37852 ? I picked this up on my DK earlier from a pug and I had a few people who also rolled on it. I had bad lucks with Heroic Halls of Lightning and the boss was very tiresome. I had the Revered sword from Ebon Knights.

This weapon is far more suited to an Unholy Death knight tank than any other spec.

The avoidance given by the agility is more suited to Unholy than damage mitigation and the haste will help to proc Blood Caked Blade, giving a substantial threat and dps boost.

I think that the chanegs in 3.0.8 may make the Undeath Carrier a better alternative for hunters than this spear.

After the patch, its stats will no longer have the Feral AP, and it will have 100 Agility, 150 Stam (i know thats not great) 153 AP, and 51 crit. So losing 45 Haste and 17 Crit rating, for 10 agility and 27 AP and the 74 stam but thats not important.. Not sure if thats much better or if its worse, im not a hunter. What do you hunters think?

This is a fantastic weapon for hunters, I don't think anyone will disagree with me there. The lack of strength makes this more suited to hunters aswel. A warrior gets two MAP for each strength, so i think im right in saying a weapon with 64 strength would give them more melee attack power and this really isn't that much.

Got this recently on my hunter, having argued with a DK about who should get it before it even dropped. When it did, I rolled 98 on it, hell yeah.

I would say this is the 4th or 5th best weapon out there for hunters, depending on your hit rating. Personally I would be reluctant to roll on Black Ice now. I've got my hit cap, and there is limited bonuses on that weapon for me. I don't value haste so its 68 crit rating versus 26 attack power. I would probably stick to what I have, provided another guild hunter gets it.

This dropped for my 10 man group in naxx last night. I'm a DK using titansteel destroyer and i passed on it. IMO, wraith spear is good, but titansteel destroyer is better. A hunter wanted it so i just let him roll on it. I didnt take it because i wasnt so sure it would be a dps increase. I dont think it is tbh. I would lose A LOT of str by switching to this weapon. Not only the str that is on TSD, but also the str i would have gotten from RotFC and all my talents.

Dont forget, 1str = 2AP for DKs. AP is the modifier for all our abilities. So while my melee strikes MAY see a dps increase, all the rest of my abilities would suffer.

Based on what a DK needs, the wraith spear really doesnt do it for us. Agil is decent, but it only improves our melee crit, where as crit rating improves melee and spell crit. Haste is a worthless stat for DKs, and straight AP is never as good as Str.

In conclusion, this weapon would be best suited in a hunter's hand. If you are a DK and want to roll on it for an upgrade thats fine, but the TSD is easily attainable.

Alright, there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about this weapon and which classes should be allowed to roll on it / have priority on it.

In particular, a lot of people seem to think that this is a vastly superior weapon for DK's and Ret Pallys than it is for Hunters, on the grounds that "They'll actually use it".

Assuming roughly equivalent levels of gear, a hunter will see an equal if not greater increase in their raid dps from this weapon, even though they're unlikely to ever swing the thing in a raid. Yes, it's only a 'stat stick' for them. The problem is that ranged weapons provide very little in the way of stats compared to melee weapons of the same level. Hunters are balanced around the need for both a solid ranged weapon and a good amount of appropriate dps stats (which happen to be exactly the stats present on this spear).

This is difficult for a lot of melee dps classes to understand, as they either can't equip a ranged weapon or only receive a minor dps boost from its stats.

Obviously, there are other factors to consider, such as whether somebody has already received an upgrade recently, what the DKP totals are, etc. But all other factors being equal, I see no reason to deny hunters a chance to roll on this.

Just got this last night naxx I was using Claymore of Ancient Power before. And sure I lost about 0.10% crt and some AP but the agility and Haste made it so much better for a SV hunter. My dps actually goes up with this. So yes this is a good hunter weapon.

BTW I beat a Ret pally by 2 to get this spear. Who is to say which class will actually benfit more from it? I gain a dps boost and the ret pally will actually use it to melee. No difference if I see the item will give me a dps boost I will roll on it.

I Just picked this spear up on my DK last night (hurray for no hunters and arms warriors!), and i ran a heroic this morning and immediately noticed a huge difference in all my spammable attacks.

I was using the Titansteel Destroyer, it was decent, and my buddy ragged on me for picking up this spear, but the shear difference in the spammable attacks, namely Frost strike was awesome.

I also like the Crit. :)

This is actually the only BoP drop from Arachnid Quarter that has any use for hunters, so if you were using Ebon Blade rep 2H sword (you really should), this will be a slight upgrade for you and you should feel free to lay your hand on it (unless any guildie needs is more, ofc)

This is, in my opinion, better than a Titansteel Destroyer for a hit capped Ret Pally. Factoring everything in (and assuming you have Kings on you), the Destroyer has 10.3 more DPS (and 1.65% more Hit) but the Wraith Spear has 3.38% more Crit.

As a hunter with a love for spears and fist weps, i would like to gather this spear as well as Black Ice and Cryptfiend's Bite.
Sweet fists are Calamity's and Hand of Nerub but with all the rogues out there i doubt i will get them.
And my ranged would be Arrowsong, Nerubian Conquerer and Envoy of Mortality.
these would be my weps and if i could get at least one from each list i would be quite happy

Ok so first off, my main is a hunter and he has this weapon. I just wanted to comment on the people who say hunters should not have this weapon... ummm could you all show me a melee weapon that you would call a hunter weapon? yea we don't use melee attacks, but what would you prefer we use? a pole with a rock on the end of it? We need stats just as much as everyone else does. and lets face it that stat difference from this and even the Nerubian Conquerer (which is the like a melee weapon is to a melee class as a ranged weapon is for a hunter... just wanted to make a weapon comparison there) is ridiculously different!

Yes I can understand people saying that its not just a hunter weapon. For those that say we shouldn't even roll on it, you're just being ignorant.

p.s. If this was just for melee classes, you'd be seeing Strength on it (like the old hellreaver polearm from Ramparts)....but I for one don't see it on there.

I have to say i disagree with the guys that say hunters can't roll for this weapon, specially when its probably that it will be the first 2 handed that they will see in Naxx (cause most guilds start doing Spiders Quarter). The odds are u start the raid with https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=44249 or https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=37883, so this weapon is an excelent upgrade in questions of Agi and Crit / Haste (unless ur heavy enchanted/gem'ed to Haste ur not capped at this point).

Hunters should be allowed to roll on this weapon cause they will not see another good one until https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40208 or https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=40233, on which all the same arguments that have been told bout not alowing a hunter to roll on this will be the same =p.

On the hunters side i will say this is only a MM/Surv weapon, a BM will benefit more from https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=39393 also found on Naxx/10 as the crit overcomes the loose of Agi and both got the same Sta.

Im not saying that this is a "hunter only" weapon, but give them a fair shoot.

I won this the other day from Maexxna, and gotta say it was a nice upgrade from Colossal Skull-Clad cleaver on my Arms Warrior.

With Berserking enchant on it I can pull just under 3.5k dps on single target tank and spank bosses when 10 man raid buffed, with the Skull-Clad cleaver using Mongoose on it I was just a smidge under 3k dps.

While Hunters may want this, it's definitely suited to the 'poleaxe' spec of an Arms warrior despite the lack of strength, and the slow weapon speed helps a lot.

I'm envious of you polearm users. If Blizzard were to shorten the pole into a grip, remove the "spinal column" part and assign the resulting skin to a sword, it'd be awesome.

For my Alt Druid, I went with Silvery Sylvan Stave.
It's one of the items available from the Tournament Vendor for only 25 Champion's Seals.
The faster attack speed doesn't mean anything to a Druid...
Being able to grind this pre-80 makes it even that much more appealing!

Silvery Sylvan Stave compared to this Wraith Spear:

+ 630 Armor
+ 13 Agility
+ 19 Stamina
- 16 Critical Strike
- 45 Haste
+ 8 Attack Power (both this staff and this polearm have the same Feral AP of 1845)

Tossed a cheap enchant of Greater Savagery on it and now on to the next alt :)

I figured I'd mention this since there isn't much awareness or mention of the tourny gear, but be it your main or an alt, the tournament gear has some decent pre-naxx weapons and some (like this Staff) is actually better than some 10 man drops. So if you have time to knock out a few easy dailies all this can be yours :) and no one will even roll against you!

PS. My Druid is actually Resto so the staff is just for offspec. For his healz I got him Dagger of Lunar Purity (yep, also from the Tournament) coupled with Prison Manifest (found at your local AH). This may not be for everyone, but for me I like to have my alts have the best I can get before I throw them in any Heroics or raids. (And once again, obtained Pre-80)!
