Procwatch says 1.6 procs/minute. This is over a 10 minute period of autoattacking only, dualwielding 2 2.6 speed weapons. Might get higher over the course of an instance run.

Spellcrit on players that this trinket is for probably isn't going to be high enough to see it crit regularly.

In essence, this trinket is the same as the Maelstrom Card, only with a lower proc rate and effect on ranged attacks.

Don't be quick to shard it just yet. Word has it this trinket will get a buff during an upcoming reitemization.

Dropped last night after downing this event 2nd try I view this trinket as my Thunderfury so I use it when I solo as prot spec max ever it has proc'd was twice in one fight (out of raid) but was nice

This trinket is really nice for Feral Druids. I had it proc 5 times in < 10 seconds last night in Kara. This may be better in bear than in cat if you are going to use Swipe a lot.

I've had one of these banked for a month or so, for this exact reason. My mad prognosticating abilities are without flaw.

I am dying for the patch to hit so I can whip out this bad boy. Good call by Blizz. Now they should revert Rom and Jules to hard mode, and all will be shiny.

After about 1hrs testing on the PTR this still looks like it has a poor <2ppm, making only worthwhile if you're really really desperate for the +hit.

It's also worth noting the rogue talents Vile Poisons and Improved Poisons do not affect it, which is a shame.

As its been said before this trinket is Perfect for a Bear Druid... Especially if you are tanking several targets at once with Swiping Attack becouse the chances to proc gets bigger and it there fore creates bigger agro to you...

How is this any good for a Bear Druid? Bear Druids tank. Tanks require items that increase mitigation and survivability. This does neither. I won't touch on PPM because Jules took care of that for me.

Even with a low proc rate, this is 2% to hit (I believe? If I'm wrong, please correct me.) on one item. I'd say that's worth the trinket spot in its own. With this, I can sacrifice hit on other items in favor of more AP. The proc is gravy, but you're picking this up for the hit first.

Actually the procwatch mod misses some proc!

and it doesn't count resisted procs too, it is a spell, can be resisted.

Though, the value it gave me was 2.1proc/min.

No. That card deals less damage and lacks the enormous hit rating. It also has a lesser proc rate.

No comparison at all. The Poison Vial is actually a really solid item now.

I ran the proc while farming, it showed a 3.4 ppm and 20 hits per proc.

The proc did a bit more than 2% of my damage output.

However when I used it last karazhan run it was 1.2% of my total damage, I think drake fang talisman is better while raid buffed.

This trinket has the most hit rating of any trinket. I've equipped this on my enhancement shaman (look me up in armory)

Note that the Romulo's poison proc counts as a spell. Thus can be reflected - i found out whilst taking down a boar in blades edge when it put it's spell reflect shield up. It hits for what is says and crits for around 420-480.

This seems to be affected by spell hit (this isn't my WWS but I just noticed it). 17% miss chance is what you get with spells with 0% spell hit. 2.9% mitigated is also probably due to the partial resists you get because it's a boss - not too far off from 5% considering the sample size isn't too big (95 hits)

This trinket seems to have been buffed. I just picked it up last night and, after testing on Dr. Boom, I had a proc rate of 4-6 procs per minute. It had a crit rate of about 6%, so, I'm guessing it goes by spell crit rating (maybe I'll pick up some +damage/crit greens and see if it's affected). I couldn't tell if the crit bonus was 1.5x or 2x though, the highest crit I got was 460 which would fit into either.

I'll get a proc-watcher mod later tonight and test it out a bit more to see if it's PPM-based or percent-based.

For those interested in this kind of thing, Romeo (Romulo, if you will) ended his life by drinking from a vial of poison. Nice reference on Blizzard's part.

This really seems like it should make a tremendous tanking trinket. It initially appears to be oriented towards DPS classes, but two factors make it highly desirable for a tank:

(1) Hit rating is fantastic, since missing your highest-threat abilities (Shield Slam, Mangle) can be disastrous. Combined with the upcoming Expertise stat, an appropriately geared tank could connect all or nearly all attacks, and thus achieve very consistent threat output.
(2) The proc does a fixed amount of magic damage, rather than increasing damage output by some factor that is multiplied by existing damage gear (i.e. armor penetration is a multiplier, or conversely, attack power is multiplied by existing critical strike and hit chance gear). Right now, it's essentially equivalent in threat output to an additional Sunder Armor. If we assume a 3ppm rate, then the proc alone would be a 20 threat-per-second increase for a warrior.

Certainly not the ideal trinket in all scenarios, but it should be a no-brainer for threat-sensitive ones. Could anyone confirm or deny the utility of this trinket while tanking?

it's very good for threat over time but I wouldnt say its the best overall. the autoblocker beats the sh*t out of it for burst (opening) threat. and if u use it everytime it's cool that's +200blockvalue (on top of the 59 passive bv) for 1/6 of all shield slams. Also, you can gem for hit but not for block value. But it is still one of the best threat trinkets for druid/warrior tanks (not so much for pallys).

Fury warrior = Love this
Fury warriors are always looking for a little bit of extra hit rating, and this will really take the cake. using this, you can put on other more dps efficient gear that has crit and Ap instead of finding the low-stat blue items.

Just to make something clear.
Just because it says "Romulo's Poison Vial" doesn't mean it will be affected by anything in Rogue's talents regarding Poisons. (Rogue's need talents to increase Nature damage from poison because they can't have Spell Damage)

So the damage from this will be increased by Spell Damage Only.

Just did a little bit of testing in the blasted lands on a be ret pally.
Procs off of Seal of Command, Seal of Blood, Judgment of blood, and Crusader strike
Its also affected by avenging wrath and vengeance (hooray?) seen 450 non crits with AW, proc rate seams decent, 2-3 procs a minutes, helps me get hit capped and Nice to see dual procs. Still not sure if it would proc on JoC

Is there a visible proc effect on this trinket? I was testing it out last night, and while I can see that it's proc'ing in the combat log, I didn't see any visual representation for it. I may have been missing it.

Druid Addition:
Best swipe trinket ingame. While yes, it may proc every so often in cat form, this trinkett will proc ALOT while swiping three targets (For those who are unaware of the bear ability, swipe attacks three distinct targets and each hit has a chance to crit). While a BT/MH druid may have swipes that do 500ish damage while critting, this trinket has a chance to proc on each individual hit, thus making swipe hit upwards of 700, and leveling the playing field vs Prot Pallies atleast on three targets.
+++ Aside from T5/6 leg pieces, druid tanking pieces have literally no hit (aside from new T6 bracers/belt/boots). This trinket can and will help those who need hit. Took me from my 90 hit 44 exp in aggro gear to 125 hit, which makes me a total aggro w*ore. While still mantaining 30.5k Armor w/devotion aura and approx 40% dodge.

on a comment above someone mentioned a fury warrior only needing 90 hit rating. this is a bad comment especially since warriors NEED to hit with their oh much more now that most of us use a slower oh wep. this is an amazing trinket for a fw, simply because it allows you to itemize your gear better. the hit cap on oh is somewhere around 400 with a fw (similar to rogues), i'm not saying u should try to get to the oh cap but getting 250-300 hit will make your dps much higher than if you were at 90 hit.

Yeah, i just wanted to know how effectiveness of the proc as a hunter. Cuz it caps me perfectly and ending up with more stats little more atp and about .7% more crit but im trading this proc effect for the hourglasses.

I just wander, what if a warrior tank mix this trinket with Darkmoon Card: Maelstrom and with Thunderfury. Wouldn't it make hughe threat because TF has proc that lowers nature resistance? Have anyone tried this?

Highest non activated + hit trinket currently.

Now in LK, the best non activated + hit trinket is Battlemaster's Accuracy.

But next up inline requires nothing but level 80, while the one above requires 1800 arena rating, Grim Toll, which drops in 25 man nax.

I think this trinket was buffed in 3.0.2, as this now procs a LOT compared to pre-patch.
I actually notice it working now, whereas before I think I saw it proc twice in the space of a week.

Yes it does proc in feral form for druids, however, like everyone has said, the proc rate is still really low. It's probably on a per minute proc, because it procs the same rate in cat and in bear. I don't know the exact rate, but I'm still seeing about one proc every few minutes. I just have it for the hit rating, since hit rating gear for druids is somewhat hard to come by.

To give an example of how much damage it does... on any given run a rogue's Kick ability will outdamage it. I was seeing 1 proc about every 5-10 minutes.

Looting it is basically a waste of a shard.

I think Romulo's Poison Vial procs quite a bit on my Hunter and the fact that it can crit is great too....I just dont know if its worth using over the hourglass of the unraveller....My crit is 20% with Romulos equipped and my to hot 109....my crit goes to 21.5% with hourglass with my hit rating dropping to 74 without it...any advice?

Just saved this from the DE pile tonight on my feral druid. Didnt need the hit really (kinda wish it were crit instead) but it could come in handy.

The proc seems to hit for a little over 200 (a little lower then i expected) most of the time and procs fairly often in cat; maybe once or twice per mob.

Our enhance shaman loves this thing but unless you need the +hit you might not want to take off your hourglass just yet.

Just got this tonight and wow, took it into the battle ground and BAM, accounted for 3% damage according to newest damage meters. Granted, I'm a beast spec hunter, so between autoshots, steady and instants, I hit very fast, well worth it for the +hit, the proc is very nice too. Great trinket for those of us who have a fast attack speed.

Kinda out there question:

Does this proc more frequently/harder for rogues with the +poison applicating/dmg talent? If nothing else, it still seems kind of a build-specific drop, as some items are.

Can't argue with +35 hit though, sometimes. That's just major in PvE, poison or not. QQ on the proc rate, the real bread and butter is the +hit flood.

i got it on my shaman, respeced enhas to try it out, 7.67% hit plus 6 from talents.

i gotta say this is a very nice enhas pve trinket, SS makes it do like 400+dmg and 600dmg crits heh. procs a lot too with dw wf.

Recently got this. Seems to proc well. But that +35 hit, woot! I got this along with my Netherblade Gloves.

I was finally able to ditch my Cloak of the Craft and my Terokkar Tablet of Precision for this trinket and a Blood Knight War Cloak and still come out with a net gain of +17 Hit Rating, increasing my secondary stats in the process.

Good for rogues who need the Hit rating Proc is good if ur lazy like me and never bother to use my trinkets. would trade for brooch (badge of justice) trinket only after i maxed my Hit. I believe that rogues dual weilding may also be a bonus to the proc.

I just ran some testing on the proc rate, doing just auto attacks:

1018 hits out of 1057 swings
21 procs of Romulo's Poison
Total proc damage: 5950
Average proc damage: 283
Proc rate per hit: 2.06%
Proc rate per swing: 1.99%
Proc % of overall damage: 2.28%

I'm guessing it only procs on hits, either way the proc rate is about 2%. For a combat dagger rogue with slice'n'dice up all the time, that's anywhere from about 1.75 to 2 procs per minute, depending on offhand weapon speed. Or 7.9 to 9.4 dps. That's not including special attacks, so we'll be generous and call it 10 - 12ish dps. Not really a fantastic dps boost by any measure. Thank God Blizz added that hit rating.

Don't overestimate this trinket. According to my rogue spreadsheet (from raidcal), the Hourglass of the Unraveller does more damage.

It might depend on your gear & spec ofcourse.

yeah we have a beloved &*!@#$% in our group who runs around all day blabbing about his hit rating being capped, knowing full well where the rogues in the guild stand hit rating-wise, and still Fing rolls on it. Thankfully it went to the other rogue, but dude if we still need 150 more or so hit to be solid, and you're capped at 121ish, isnt it for the better of the guild/group that the rogues get it?
