With buffs I am at 385 fishing skill and I am still only catching about 60%. I would suggest getting to 400 before using this as a primary fishing spot.

I fish these babys in Winterspring at the lake near the Timbermaw cave to Felwood and Moonglade. Dont take more than about 20 min. and you got about 10-15 fish in your bag. A little tip: get your main char. maxed out in fishing, then you dont get the pesky "fish got away" (always use a lure however to be on the safe side) and your more sure not to get ganked or killed by mobs on your way there :)

Out of roughly 40 throws I got 25 (63 %) of these in Dire Maul East (by first boss). Got a lot of getaways with 381 fishing skill, but none with +75 lore (456).

On my server I have sold 4 stacks of these at 100g each stack in the last couple of days. I had no clue fishing could be quite so lucrative. I catch all mine right outside of stratholme, maxed fishing, lvl 80, using the kaluak fishing pole.

I've been trying to catch these for the achievement and can't find it anywhere. I tried Lake Mereldar in EPL and after 100's of casts, I haven't seen one. I have max fishing and have the STV tournament pole and +75 lure. They must have changed the locations with 4.0.3a.

Un'Goro crater seems like an acceptable place to fish these.
Here's what I got after 10 mins (1 lure) in Fungal Rock (63,19)
Base starting skill: around 275-280, plus +105 from rod, hat and lure.

Raw nightfin snapper x4

I just caught 12 of these in about 10 minutes in a water filled crater in Un'gorro. I had 198 Fishing with +100 lure. Cords are 32/15 there is a goblin NPC quest giver who stands on the edge of a raised crater. There is also a Human Knight quest giver below. I raised about 5 points in fishing and caught 4-5 pieces of trash. I've uploaded a screen shot. There are no wandering Mobs here and a nearby flight point at the Mossy Hill. (I think thats the name of the FP).
After this post I went back here and in another ten minutes I got 15 fish, leveled my cooking from the annoying 275-300 and got Fishing up to 215 to boot. My next trip back here will be for a stack to sell at AH.

These can also be caught in Feralas easily, I only have 195 fishing and I've gotten quite a few of them right in front of the base by the lake. Note that I have gotten quite a few trash drops while fishing, but if you aren't quite high enough lvl to handle the blasted lands or wintersprings go to feralas. Hope this helps some people.

I caught this in the lake in Blasted lands. The tainted forest area, and it was at night. also caught plated armorfish. My fishing is at 264, got more of this and armorfish then anything.

At ~330 fishing skill (including lure and fishing pole)

In 10 minutes I caught 12 of these in Blasted Lands.

Not the greatest but since Blasted Lands is right next to Outlands I stayed here to get cooking to 300. I could just skip right over to Outlands right when I was done.

blasted lands has (at least today) a MUCH higher spawn rate vs. EPL. spent 30-40 min in each zone: picked up 15 whitescale in the blasted lands (and some lightning eel); only 2 whitescale in EPL (lake mereldar), though i did pick up a stack of redfin.

Got 25 in 20 minutes from the lake/fjord in sourthern Blasted lands as marked on the map on this entry. I also got 5 sunscales (which was my reason for being there) . In total 5 Sunscales and 48 others. That made me doubt the droprate for Sunscales was 17%. But a CHi squared test shows this distribution well withing the 95% confidence interval. Meh ;-)

Spent about 10 mins fishing right at the curve south of the little lake in the tainted woods as the water runs into the river to the ocean. Fishing skill was 148 when I started using a +5 strong fishing pole. After the short time my fishing skill was at 159 and this is what I got:

From a Greater Sagefish School:
Raw Greater Sagefish x3
Iron Bound Trunk x2

And from regular fishing:
Lightning Eel x2
Plated Armorfish x4
Raw Whitescale Salmon x14
Raw Nightfin Snapper x6
Raw Redgill x2
Raw Sunscale Salmon x1

So this spot is a VERY good spot to go for these fish. And there doesn't seem to be a very high fishing requirement to fish here and get these.

46, 89 Close to the little village of Surwich is a good place to fish for Raw Whitescale Salmon. The fishing vendor there also sells Strong Fishing Pole which adds +5 to fishing if you don't have one already.

Red Reaches 48.5, 84 just to ocean side of the bridge fishing skill 191 with a strong fishing pole, seems to be an even mix of Whitescale Salmon, and Sunscale Salmon. Seems to alternate every other cast between the two.

You do not need high fishing skill and lures to catch these if you fish off of the dock in Surwich, Blasted Lands. (This is in The Tainted Forest, on the coast. Sorry, no coords.)

I found this place last night just as I was about to log, and in just a few minutes I already had 4 Raw Whitescale Salmon, 3 Plated Armorfish, 2 Raw Nightfin Snapper, 2 Lightning Eel, 1 Raw Redgill and a crate- no junk.

Did I mention I was on my lvl 60 with a fishing skill of 94 when I started there?

I had up to 90% success rate Raw Whitescale Salmon at Blasted Lands (Coordinates 41.66 : 80.87, middle of the three islands in the stream) from these fish was able to lift my cooking up well over three hundred

Confirming that Jademir Lake in Feralas is still dropping these, as well as Raw Sunscale Salmon. Helps that there's a flight point there now (Alliance, and on the southeastern end of the lake at Dreamer's Rest) and the dragonkin on the other side of the lake aren't all elites anymore (from the zone level nerf a patch or two ago..)

Here's a tip for those of you already fishing in Swamp of Sorrows: I can confirm that you can catch these salmon fishing from the 96.6, 26.3 pin in Swamp of Sorrows. I casted off the little rowboat next to the ship, and got one of these on the 3rd cast.

Pole Equipped: Strong Fishing Pole (+5)
Lure Equipped: Aquadynamic Fish Attractor (+100)

Coordinates: 41.27, 67.27 (The Tainted Forest, Blasted Lands)

I fished for about 10 minutes (just long enough to use the Fish Attractor) and this is what I got:

Raw Whitescale Salmon x18
Raw Sunscale Salmon x11
Raw Nightfin Snapper x6
Raw Greater Sagefish x9
Lightning Eel x6
Raw Redgill x5

I got the Raw Whitescale Salmon pretty much every other cast, especially once the Greater Sagefish School disappeared. Once I hit 6pm server time exactly, I started getting the Nightfin Snapper, as well.

Great place for farming all 3 fish needed for cooking 275-320! Happy fishing!

What amazes me about the difficulty of catching these is that the recipe for it is just a straight heal recipe with no buffs. At least the mightfish gives you a +10 to stamina. I really think that Blizzard crapped out and got lazy on the high level recipes.

300 fishing is to little to fish in feralas for these.

You need big iron fishing rod or +20 bauble or more to fish.

I am dissapointed at the high level recipys for cooking.
The skill involved, and the rarity of some fishes should truely give more then a straight heal over time.

If you fish right near Hydropspawn in Dire Maul, but are just out of his reach and have equipped and you have a fishing pole with +20 and have at least 300 skill you can catch a ton of fish in this area when you're level 70, you won't aggro anything if you hug the wall. I am a 70 druid and I stealthed (prowl for druid's cat form) my way into the area and didn't have to fight one single mob.

i went fishin at the frostfire hotsprings in wintersprings to raise skill...this is whaat i found: skill 291, pole: big ironn +20,boots +5, gloves +2...fishin lvl to low...added bright baubles + 75...fished jus fine...lost 1 out of bout every 5 on average...cought over 150 fish un less than an hour...half whitescale, other half a mix...raised skill to 306...i changed fishin equip. around and found that fishin skill here is 330 needed to fish...keep in mind this is jus to fish...you wanna catch anything you better have a few baubles with you :)

After the patch 2.3, now its not possible to fish these from karazhan/DWP/masters cellar. This is what i caught out of 80 today:

- barbed gill trouts (40/80 caughts, 50% chance)
- crescent-tail skull fish (20/80 caughts, 25% chance)
- bloodfin catfish (17/80 caughts, 21% chance)
- lighting eels (3/80 caughts, 4% chance)

So Im headhin now to the plagelands to see if i can catch any...

*******For those who dont know it yet, the lighting eels now have a use! Seems like theyre needed to cook something with clefhoof meat out of a blue recipe that has a low drop chance from crates of meat and barrels of fish (Rewards from the daily cooking quests in shatt).

Fished for these in Frostfire hot springs in Winterspring at 37,37.

Started at around 373 skill buffed and caught maybe 25% of my catches. Once I hit 375 skill buffed, it improved greatly and I ended up catching roughly 50%

Over about 20 minutes (Patch 2.3) I caught:

12 Raw Whitescales
7 Raw Sunscales
7 Raw Redgill
2 Lightning Eel

I only needed 9 Raw Whitescales, so I left pretty happy. I was expecting a rougher time.

I caught a bunch of these in winterspring while i was leveling my fishing skill to 300. These are the stats of things i caught for 150 fish.
Location: The small pond Near entrance to Winterspring from Felwood through tunnel entrance
Raw Whitescale Salmon 66 -> 44%

Raw Redgill 17 -> 11.3%

Ok, Raw Whitescale Salmon. I went to Silithus location 59, 82. There's a lake there that you can fish from.

My skill is: 343 + 95 (Bright Baubles)

It took me about 12 minutes to pull you 15 Raw Whitescale Salmon. I did get a lot of trash fish, which I sold to the vendor/AH. If you need these fish I strongly recommend going there.

Winterspring loc 30,46 is a good spot
My Base Fishing skill was 280 when i started, with +20 fishing pole and Aquadinamic fish attractor +100, I had a 400 skill total.
I only lost a fish 1 out of ever 6-8 tries. I got mosty whitescales, nightfins(early monring), some sunscales, a few eels, very few redgills and very few plated armorfish. I also got a green drop plate armor lvl 55 thought that was neet.

In about 30 minutes I caught 12 Raw Whitescale Salmon, 8 Raw Sunscale salmon, 8 Nightfin Snappers, 5 Plated Armorfish, and 2 Lightning eels on the bridge that crosses the Thondroril River between the Eastern and Western Plaguelands. My skill was about 315, I was using the +20 fishing pole, and I had to use a lure to keep the fish from getting away.

I hacve justconfimed that in order to fish on the far north of the river(WPL) you must have 325 TOTAL However if you do not have tyhis don't waste your time going back home if you are already there there is a pl;ace a little down the stream where you can raise it But a comment to add to 325 i ghave 325 buffed and it is very diffucult to catch the fish

The Eastern Plaguelands (Lake Mereldar) drop rate for these is better than listed.

Out of 237 successful catches, I got:

88/237 (37.1%) Raw Whitescale Salmon

72/237 (30.4%) Raw Nightfin Snapper

57/237 (24.1%) Plated Armor Fish

18/237 (7.6%) Raw Redgill

1/237 (0.4%) Major Healing Potion

1/237 (0.4%) Superior Mana Potion

At level 51, I stood at 65, 83 without aggroing any of the water elementals.

These have been my secret weapon at the auction house. If you're on a realm that has a ton of people, you can get away with selling them for 4g a piece before people start to catch on. When they do the price goes down for a while but people will always need it for cooking so once you see it hasn't been in the AH for a while, get after 'em again. Good money-maker in short.

The Frostfire Hot Springs pond in Winterspring requires at least 330 fishing to fish in, so I skilled up to 205 in the pond inside the Valley of Honor (Orgrimmar).

I then went to the Frostfire Hot springs pond and equipped a +25 fishing rod and +100 lure to have exactly 330 fishing and caught one Raw Whitescale Salmon on my first catch, missed the next 9 fish until I caught 1 Red Rawgill and then 1 Raw Whitescale Salmon. I then missed the next 24 fish until my 10 minute +100 fishing lure was up.

So in 10 minutes I got 2 Raw Whitescale Salmon and 1 Red Rawgill with exactly 330 fishing. I also did not skill up on any of the fish.

Moral of the story: Skill up to at the very least 290s but 300+ would be best before you go after these guys.

Well, for some reason, these fishes are selling at extreme prices on my server ( EU - Arathor), 100-150 g / stack. I guess it's because you can up your cooking skill with it... Still, it is laughable price...

Okay, i decided to catch a stack of these to up my cooking. My fishing is maxed at 450/450. I headed west out of eastern plaguelands and when I got to the bridge I went just to the right of it. fished from one spot and didn't stop till I had 20 of these puppies.

It took 53 casts to get this:

I was catching these with a fairly good drop rate (at maxed for lev 80 fishing..and my epic pole lol).. that was mid evening.. 5 ish?... but then I restarted some fishing again exact same spot.. lake in Eastern Plaguelands.. anway, around 8:30pm or so they dropped much faster.. like at one point I got 6 in a row .. over all I'd say maybe 25% drop rate to closer to 70-80%.. and the fish inbetween were mostly the sunscale salmon or nightfin snapper which still seem to sell very well on AH...with an occasional lightning eel inbetween which were on AH nearly 1g each but not sure how much sell.

Since most ppl need this for cooking skill ups I put them on AH in singles ..sunscale around 1.5g each and whitescale around 2.5g each. Wish me luck!

I fished in the thondroril R near the bridge at about 4.30pm realm time for 40 mins started at 168 with a plus 100 lure and ended at 200. Only 2 raw whitescale, the rest were 50 raw sunscale, plus 14 raw mithhead, 14 lightning eels and 12 Oilys, and 24(trash) it appears you will have to fish at night for the whitescales....I will come back..Tullwinn-Nagrand

Well, I decided to do a little fishing tonight so went to Frostfire Hot Springs just
inside Winterspring from Felwood to fish for Raw Whitescale Salmon.

Was using Nat’s Lucky Fishing Pole (+25 Fishing) and Aquadynamic Fish Attractors (+100).
Fished for 30 minutes and skill went from 300 to 312 and landed the following fish.

40 Raw Whitescale Salmon 34.5%
21 Raw Sunscale Salmon 18.1%
17 Raw Nightfin Snapper 14.7%
17 Lightning Eel 14.7%
13 Plated Armorfish 11.2%
7 Raw Redgill 6.0%

So I went to Frostfire Hot Springs (37,38) in Winterspring to fish for these. I started at fishing skill 248 and used Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 (+20 Fishing Skill). I used 3 Bright Baubles for a total of 30 minutes of fishing and this is what I caught:

Caught a few in Z'G with a total of 343 fishing skill all told.

Also caught some plated armorfish.

Fished up and down the coasts of both these zones in the Veiled Sea and had absolutely zero Whitescale Salmon. Never had received a "Your fish has got away" message while working these coasts either.

Fished off the elite turtle beach in Tanaris and did not catch any Whitescales and never got any "Your fish has got away" messages.

I've only just made my way to Centarion Hold in Silithus, (and haven't done much exploring yet) so not sure if there's any open coast here or not or if it's this section of the Veiled Sea coast that is supposed to have Whitescales in it.

Jademir Lake in Feralas. Dragonkin elite all over the place. Cast a underwater breathing spell and gingerly snuck up the lake staying in the center of the channel til I found a sheltered cove in the north. 305 Fishing skill is not sufficient to fish here. Added a bright bauble, boosted to 380 and was able to fish. Prolly had about 30-40% rate of "Your fish got away" messages. After 4 baubles caught 22 Whitescale, 2 stacks of Nightfin, alot of Redgill, several Plated Armorfish, and 2 or 3 each of mana/healing pots and 1 ironbound locked trunk.

I was trying to get my cooking skill up so I found a recipe that called for raw whitescale salmon. I saw the posting about Frostfire Hotsprings and this was my experience.
I fished for 40 min and this is what I caught;
26 sunscale salmon
32 whitescale salmon
10 redgill
4 lightning eel
1 18 # salmon (weapon)

Several tips: USE something to increase your fishing (I used baubles). This is a must--without it I got the message "Fishing 330 required". Be patient--several times I got the message "Your fish got away".

The bottom line was I increased my fishing skill as well, (from 311-318). Not wonderful but I thought it was OK. I cooked some fish and my cooking went from to 290-300. At this point I had to go Hellfire Peninsula and get the Master Cookbook. After getting "trained" as a Master Cook, I cooked some more of my fish and ended up with a skill of 317. Not too bad for an hour's work! Have fun.

From the patch notes, and my experience, you can now fish anywhere. With low skill you will need a lure to minimize the amount of "junk" you get.
i.e.:tattered cloth, tangled fishing line, driftwood, etc. Most sell for a few copper, the tattered cloth sells for 1 silver each. I don't know how much those contribute to raising fishing skill or if they have no effect.

I figured i'd spend a lil time on this, seeing as most comments are easily 12+ years old :-)

I went to Wnterspring, and ofcourse wanted to get Raw Whitescale Salmon.
Fishing hat +5 skill (+75 lure)
Fishing rod +25 skill
Base skill went from 269/300 to 283/300.

For anyone trying for this in Feralas, if you don't see the Jademir Lake location popup you might be in the wrong location on the lake. I kept fishing up raw mithril head trouts (and lower level fish) until I moved to a better spot.
