Upcoming Tier 11 set for feral druids. Kinda odd the models arnt updated even though they're showing them off on the main site. Odd.

agreed on the set model.. and on a side note.. the set bonuses arent terrible either.. overall looks like a decent set of gear

Once again it seems to me that expansion comes with a bad set for bear druids, just like tier 9 in WotLK.
To be more specific:
a) 2 set bonus really really really looks weak, comparing with tier 10 in which the bonus of lacerate is 20% (up from 10% in cata) plus it gives an additional 20% bonus in Swipe. Also notice that the tooltip is saying that increases the bonus only from periodic damage of lacerate and not the initial damage.
b) 4 set bonus gives more time to Survival Instincts? Seriously? 6 more seconds for a 5 minute cooldown that you occasionally use roughly once per encounter? Besides the use of that skill is to mitigate damage when you know you are about to receive high amounts of damage (say a skill of a boss) in which case there is no point in having 6 more seconds duration since 12 sec are more than enough to overcome with this nasty skill.

Taking maths into account other than logic: let's say that you use it on every cooldown the second it is ready (which you will obviously not). it now gives 60% reduction for 12 sec with 5 min CD = 12/300*60%=2,4%. This means that this skill gives you 2,4 passive damage reduction (once again IF you are using it on EVERY cooldown, which you won't... the real effective number is actually less).
Now with 6 more sec and using same maths we got 18/300*60%=3,6%.

enjoy our 1,2% of dmg mitigation gaining from our ultimate 4 set bonus... Compare now with the damage reduction we were gaining from enrage wearing tier 10 (same maths: we were gaining 2% dmg reduction plus we no longer had armor reduction from enrage making the effective number actually even more)

i really hope for a buff of set bonus, or at least a "futurer" set bonus better and more suited for bears when we move deep into cataclysm.

it is possible that as Cata is a new expansion; the "set bonus" from the first set of gear to come from raiding reflects the "beginners" level of the raid encounter. I think of every expansion as a new experience with "levels" of difficulty in raiding.

I woudl agrue that this set is probably "lacking" only because you are comparing it to tier 10 which was "endgame" for us in Wrath so of course it would seem better than this "beginning of Cata" raid set.

This was worded horrifically; let me be more succinct.

The last tier of an expansion has always had (for most classes) the best 4-set bonus. In fact, each tier has an ever-increasingly good 4-set bonus. I view this as an obvious incentive to keep raiding the current content. It is therefore fallacious, to compare the 4-set bonus on the first tier of a new expansion to the previous tier's final set.

Survival Instincts is now a 3 min CD (down from 5 min), but only mitigates incoming damage by 50% (down from 60%). The ability duration is for 12 seconds, base, so this means that the 4 pc. set bonus will extend duration to 18 sec. 18 seconds of reducing ALL incoming damage by 50%, every three minutes seems pretty robust. I like it personally.

I also like the return of 10% rake (DoT) damage bonus; identical to this set bonus' Tier 10 counterpart. Loved it then, and I love it now.

Stacking (up to 3%) AP bonus seems good too. More AP, more pew pew. Can't argue with a flat out DPS increase. However, being tied to mangle, you'll clip your mangle duration to stack it, and keep it refreshed at 3 stacks (on a single target boss fight that is). Suppose that NRG loss should net you a dps increase in spite of this though.

EDIT: the PTR Patch 4.0.6 has buffed Mangle significantly for feral cats - up to 460% of weapon damage, from 360% (although it was nerfed for bears - 235% of weapon damage, from 300%), so the use of Mangle every 29 seconds (to refresh the 4pc AP bonus duration) shouldn't be as much of a dps loss for kitty as I originally suggested (assuming these changes do go live). Liking the set bonus even more....

I'm not a huge fan of the set bonus either, but your assertion is an oversimplification to the point of being misleading. Sure it's a weak as hell passive damage mitigation, but that's because it's not intended to be passive. The whole point of an active tank cooldown is to get through the most difficult portions of boss fights, i.e. enrages, silences, mortal strikes, etc etc.

SI is our biggest and best tanking cooldown at the moment, and making it last 1.5 times as long is a big deal when you consider that it gives you a whole 6 extra seconds for the healer to save you (and the raid) from what would otherwise be certain death. 18 seconds should be long enough to cover just about any boss's uber-mode, plus some buffer time in case you're late in hitting the button. It may only be 1.2% damage reduced averaged out over a whole fight, but it's a huge amount more than that if those 6 seconds are being used to survive the worst part of the fight.

What I want to know is why there is so much haste rating in this set. I can understand why it's on quest items and so forth, since feral druids look for generally the same items as hunters, but for a set which is feral druid only, there is just no excuse to put any haste on let alone 566. Reforging fodder at best.

Too bad there's no way for bears to really avoid all the haste on gear this tier, it's literally on everything in a few slots. I really hope rogues/cats love them some haste.

At least with suboptimal stats everywhere I get an excuse to get the pretty blue armor (and reforge my fuzzy little balls off) instead of the olive green rogue skin gear, well, that and the 4 set. The 2 set looks weak, but with availability of epics in Cata being what it is it'll be worth replacing your 346 heroic gear for T11 based on stam increases alone even with the weak bonus.

Lots of blue sockets too. All the easier to activate the sweet bonuses on everything but the gloves which look like the piece to skip out on for bears in general.

Early tier armor sets are supposed to be sub-optimally statted. There is haste on this gear for that reason. It gives Blizzard better ways to upgrade later; if every piece of gear had the optimal stats, and each tier just increased the number of the exact same stats, there would be no reason to look at the stats at all, you'd just look at the ilvl. At that point, there wouldn't even be a point in printing the stats on the gear, it could just say "bear tier 11." That being said, Blizz doesn't want theorycrafting to be difficult or stats to be so obtuse that players can't figure out what stats they do need, because that will put them back in the same situation.

I remember when Hunter Tier 7 had Armor penetration all over it, and the formulas for armor pen back then made it the worst dps stat for hunters.

If you find that you need to play around with your gear, swapping between different epics and 346 blues to find the best stats, or deciding based on preference whether you want the set bonuses or a non-set piece with better stats, then you're doing exactly what blizz wants you to do. That's the "item game" they want you to play when gearing.
