I wouldn't trust the sceptic above. If you take the path from SKULK ROCK on your map and follow it east, you'll easily find Savage Owlbeasts north and south of it, should take about 15 minutes to complete at 49.

Well, while taking more than 15 minutes, this quest isn't that hard either. I did it while doing:

As the mobs needed spawn around, so you can do those 3 quests together :)

The Owlbeast share their spawns with the Silvermane Stalkers. So if you can´t find any Savage Owlbeasts just kill more Stalkers.

I believe these only spawn at night. I tried this quest ~ 5PM server time and no Savages were to be found. I logged in ~ midnight and they were literally spawning on top of me and I completed it in 15 minutes.

Be sure you have the Feralas quest "Testing the Vessel" of the "Muisik" quest line.

I found that there were a lot more of the owlbeasts when I looked for them at night as opposed to in the morning. It could be pure coincidence, but I was working on this quest in the morning and couldn't find many of the owlbeasts at all. I left for most of the day and when I came back they were everywhere around Skulk Rock.

if it looks like there are more/less of them, it is because of the shared spawn with the stalkers near skulk rock. just grind all of the wolfs/wildkin in the area and you will find plenty.

omgosh.... took me more than an hour to get this quest done... lol and all i have to do is to kill Stalkers cuz this owlbeasts are shared spawn. hopefully this helps.

A good place to grind Savages is 52.53 (ish). You'll find plenty in this area.

There are alot on each side of the road from Skulk Rock (57,40) to the other side of the road, by the mountains from 53,53 - 57,51.

I did not have any problem with this quest at all!

I found these spawned directly south of Skulk Rock (around 59,54). As has been said above, they seemed to spawn in better numbers at night, so if you're going to do this quest, I'd suggest doing it after dinner!

This can be done with Natural Materials (a major part of it), Testing the Vessel, Stalking the Stalkers, and Avenging the Fallen.

Most of them are at 63, 50. I also listened to the song by Paul Stanely - Live to Win(as seen on South Park), so the grinding went preaty fast... Live to win, till you die till the light dies your eyes! ^^

Thne followed suggestion to clear area from Wolfes and completed quest in 10 minutes at 62,44 =)

I recommend skipping this quest if you're trying to level fast. The mobs are few and far between. Only do it if you're dying to catch up to a leveling guide / running out of quests (which shouldn't happen).

64,49 had a very good amount there. Overall, you can find pretty much the twenty kills along the road to Skulk Rock.

You should head for co-ords 54,51 which is a little southwest of skull rock, just across the path, and just basically wander around that area killing any savage owlbeast you see.

Yep, as said before: Pick an area where stalkers/beasts spawn, grind on stalkers within the area. The Owlbeasts will start to spawn soon enough, keep grinding. Remember to keep killing the stalkers even after you see the beasts because it'll help in the long run.

Using tracking humanoids as a hunter or druid really helps too as you can see them right as they spawn.

A word of advice to people doing this quest:
When you are looking for the owl beasts be prepared to swerve very suddenly! The wolfs around them jump out of nowhere!

Seems to have been a nerf to the whole of Hinterlands area, the place is now swarming with Savage Owlbeats, and some mobs have changed colours and quests shortened

i have to disagree with the time frame for the spawns. i did this quest in the middle of the day during my lunch break and was finished in about 20 minutes. they are the the above mentioned areas though.

as i mentioned above, i did it during the day in 20 mins. good coords for it are 54,55 and around that area. if you do not have cosmos they can be found just to the left of the mountain range near the elite troll village

The tricky thing about this quest, is that the wolves and the savages share the same spawnpoints.

Ie. if u kill a wolf, a savage will spawn

Either that or the savages just felt like spawning at the time i started mutilating wolves

Did this quest at the same time as the other quests in the same zone, went very well. If you are the only one hunting savage owlbeast you won't have any problem finding them.

I found most of them at 56:53 (North of Altar of Zul) and the easiest way of getting them to spawn is to kill the Silvermane Stalkers. If you don't kill the Silvermane Stalkers there will be no more spawns as far as I know.
I'm also pretty sure that it doesn't effect the spawn if it's day or night.

Yeh umm you kill these at the same time as you kill the stalkers and you will have no problem, Great xp.

Between cords 60,52 and 51,53 i found alot and at night is bs i got mine all at 3pm

Reading the previous posters' advice, I set out looking for these Savage Owlbeasts. Found about 3 at the lake North of Jintha'Alor at the little hill just north of the road.

I tried wandering around Skulk Rock and thus far have found 12. Grind the stretch of land starting at Skulk Rock going directly South to the mountain range separating The Altar of Zul (Ghostbusters much?) from Jintha'Alor. I have found mobs of 5 of these things there. Respawn time is atrocious though. At least 5 minutes.

I agree with Treigzak (see above). After hours of trying to find owlbeasts, I decided t give up and look around on Thottbot for answers.

After seeing Treigzak's post, I decided to kill some wolves to see if they had the same spawn points. in fact, they HAD.
After killing around.. 10 wolves, owlbeasts started to appear.

so.. the lack of owlbeasts is probably due to people skirting around them to find and kill the owl beasts

talk about huntng the owlbeast to extinction >.>

I found them acually very easy around Shaol'Watha.. And that was not in the night, that was in the evening. Just w8 for respawn like 10 min.. Happy hunting ^^

stay in the area right around skulk rock. DOES NOT MATTER WHAT TIME day or night, cmon people. however, killing the silvermane stalkers DID respawn the savage, for me anyway. still takes a little time but .. its XP =]

Confirmed. The Savage Owlbeasts share spawn with the Silvermane Stalkers!

Since you're probably doing the quest "Stalking the Stalkers" too, make sure to go back to the point where you killed Silvermane Stalkers, to do "Hunt the Savages", bacause the SAvages will spawn there.

I was looking all around for Savages but couldn't find a single one.. Until I started killing Stalkers ..

Am I the only one who noticed that these guys are REALLY rare? I found about 3 or 4 in a clump up near the troll villages in the NE but otherwise I only see the other owlbeasts.

I found that a good area was around Shaol'watha. Previous post confirmed, Savage Owlbeasts and the wolves share a re-spawn. So if the Owlbeasts are few and far between, go ahead and kill some wolves, then they'll come back. :)

In about the 6h I have spent here now I have spoted 13 Savage Owlbeasts. This is insane. Im about to dump this quest.

Everyone, I tried to do this quest doing the day time on Bonechewer and the Savage Owlbeast barely spawned. But then I came back during night time on my server and they were all over the place. GI guess it's only logical that since they are owls they would be nocturnal.

Follow the east-mountain south towards The Altar of Zul and you will find some more of them. I killed around 8-10 Savage then whent of for awhile and came back and killed the rest of them

Just to let you guys know, incase someone is still having trouble with this quest. KILL the stalkers, then the savages will respawn. Just run around and kill the invisible stalkers to get the savages to come out and play :D not that difficult. Hope that eased some frustration.

As many other posters have stated the Stalkers and Savage Owlbeasts appear to share the same spawn table. I centred my search around the east and south of skulk rock. By killing all the stalkers as they spawn invariably a Owlbeast would spawn, if not then rinse repeat. It takes a bit of time to do this quest, however as I played Horde I was able to stack some other quests with this one such as (Testing the Vessel or Natural Materials, both from Feralas (don't know if there are Alliance counterparts).

Again, it is longish but the experience grind is of value if you have the patience.

On my server there is always people who are killing these. So if you're going to try and just run and do this quest you're going to get frustrated because you'll rarely find them.

My advice is to take all of the other quests that are around them such as the plume one and killing the stalkers. Knock out these 2 quests are you find the owlbeasts.

I will start by saying that i did this quest in the day,and couldn't originally find any of the savages.
But i did actually complete the quest not long after.While it was still DAYTIME

Admittedly I did go to the same area twice but they had respawned from the fiirst time round.

Didnt take longer than 20 mins to get all 20.

i dont know what the problem is with this quest i just did it in 30 minuts as a lvl 48 hunter orc...

they ressed just outside the camp left and right of the road my coord. 62-53 lokk round this or make a macro / target savageowlbeast and ya can't miss them..

For those without cords they are south of skull rock basically. I can't ever find alot at any time. Good thing is they also give updates for Natural Materials and Test the Vessal.

Don't be a dingbat and keep killing Primitive Owlbeasts wondering why your kill count isn't going up for the quest. I did find a bunch right NE of The Altar of Zul. These dudes share a spawn with the Stalkers so you may have to run around a bit, or just murder everything and keep on doing it.

I was doing this quest and only found Primitive Owlbeasts everywhere. I found 2 Savage and probably 30 Primitive. I decided to skip the quest, and the next day, I went back to Hinterlands and found only Savage Owlbeasts everywhere and finished the quest really quickly. Definitely something weird, but maybe just wait a day or so if you haven't found any Savage like I wasn't.
