You need to use shackles on him (that will turn him hostile), then you need to drop him to 20% hp and use again the shackle to bind him. After you bring him back (and he will spawn mobs on the way).

Grark Lorkrub is not located inside BRD - he is inside the Blackrock Stronghold (40,34) in Burning Steppes (just to your left as you exit Blackrock Mountain).

Be warned that when you use the Thorium Shackles on him to turn him hostile he hits quite hard - harder than most 58elites in the game, he also takes a bit of work to get his health down. Once he is around 30% you use the Thorium Shackles again to begin an escort quest. This involves him walking from Blackrock Stronghold around up into Blackrock Mountain and through to the other side. Along the way he will stop three times and spawn a npcs.

The first time is four Blackrock orcs, the second is two orcs and two elite Black Dragonspawn and the final time is three Searing Drakes.

Once at the other side you will be told to go to Kargath to collect your reward. If your quest was bugged like mine and you lost your shackles you can still complete the escort then talk to the quest giver to get another Thorium Shackle before turning it in.

Only needed to use the shackles once to turn him hostile, at 20% he turned friendly again and offered a "?", followed by the escort quest.
No Orc in- and outside the Stronghold will attack him, so if you are able to stealth - good for you.
At 3 points he will stop and some of his friends will popup:
1.) 2x elite and 2x non-elite Orcs.
2.) 2x elite Dragonkins and 2x elite Orcs
3.) 3x elite Dragons

I've never done this quest before today and at lvl 70 ovbiously it is very easy, so I cannot judge how hard this one is around lvl 60.

Confirmed that you only need to use the Shackles on him once.

Getting to him and subduing him was tedious, but not difficult, as a 63 Holy Paladin. But then things took a turn for the worst...

When I "started" the escort quest, he did *absolutely nothing* for about 5 minutes. The whole place respawned while I was standing there waiting for him. I thought the quest was bugged, but then he abruptly started walking outside while I was dealing with the respawns! I panicked and chased him out, aggroing about a dozen freshly respawned mobs, who proceeded to kill me. Quest failed! I then had to abandon the quest, and go back to Kargath to get a new set of shackles. No fun.

I'm going to level up and try again, this time tediously fighting my way out while he stands there with his thumb up his butt. I wish I was a frikkin' rogue...

The quest took about 13minutes total including the 2.5 minutes wait at the beginning where he randomly decides to sit there for a while. His random looking death is actually a minor error in programming from blizzard. High executioner Nuzrak actually uses his battle axe to swing down on him to kill him as he is kneeling but there is 15 feet between them, hence blizzard's foul up.

Quest now gives 350 rep with Orgrimmar.

Strangest quest I've ever done, especially from how it is worded. I originally used the shackles on him, and he aggros to me. I decided to kite him all the way to Searing Gorge before "making him submit" but when I was halfway through the BRD mountain, the chat log says "Grark Lokrub submits." and he was gone. Vanished. Discouraged at this unfortunate turn of events, I began to trek back to the initial spot I found him. On my way near the Burning Steppes entrance to BRD mountain, I get attacked by a pack of 6 mobs I have never before seen in the area. I killed them and pillaged their corpses. Whereupon I continued my sojourn to the original location of mingling with Grark. Only there do I find him, with a yellow ? above his head. Funny that. I decide to kill the adds I aggroed on the way in, and to my great negligence, I had my camera positioned so I could not see him, and being a resto shaman, I finally killed the adds. Lo and behold, Grark had vanished yet again. Thus, at the end of writing this dialogue, he was just now, respawned.

Moral:
- Use shackles.
- Beat him down into submission right there.
- Turn in the current quest.
- Accept next quest, and bring him to his doom @ the Searing Gorge entrance to the BRD mountain.

Notes:
All coordinates are Burning Steppes
- The follow up quest is not auto-appearing upon turn in of the "beat down" part.
- 42,42 spawns 4 Blackrock Ambushers, will not continue until they are dead.
- 35,49 he walks right through an encampment of flamescale dragonkin mobs.
- 33,50 spawns 2 Flamescale Dragonspawn and 2 more Blackrock Ambushers.
- 29,44 spawns 3 Searscale Drakes, which fly down the ramp to him.
- 29,36 he LAUGHS!1!1
- 26,25 he gets pwnt by High Executioner Nuzrak.
- He RP walks the ENTIRE way.

This quest is utterly miserable unless you're in a group or level 70. The spawns are too fast, there's too many, He doesn't stop walking while you fight and there's no time to rest between elite battles.

Waste of time and resources in my opinion.

Just to confirm - you DO NOT NEED TO ENTER THE INSTANCE for this quest. It's in Burning Stepps and not in any of the Blackrock instances.

Rememeber, if you wiped on the Quest you can do it again by getting back to Kargath and Speak To "Lexlort" to get another Shakcle, then get back to "Grark Lorkrub" and use it on him, then take him to 30% and here you go :)

ok so here is how we did it lvl 55 pally and lvl 61 pally
After we put the shackles on him he fights us until he get to about 30% where he submits and walks you to outside through anything and everything. (only do the shackle thing once)
About 42,42 (not too far from the door) he starts an ambush from his cronies. ( At this point I advise you to be ahead of him or behind him enough so that you can pick off the cronies 1 at a time.) (We died and luckily i was afk so that my pally buddy resurrected me and I didnt fail the quest but he did since he had to run back to the guy, Im guessing once you get so far away, you fail it.)
After you defeat his cronies, he is gonna walk you around to the Imp who he think will beat you but jus kick their butts quick as you run to keep up to him because he does not stop as you fight anything!
Next he kindly walks you through the dragonkins who have no mercy on you as he walks away and tries to make you die and fail at point 35,49.
Then as he gets to the walkway going up into BRM (Blackrock Mountain) his cronies spawn again (bout 2 elites and 3 lvl 54) as I stated before please be either ahead of him or behind him so that you can give yourself enough space to pick them off 1 by 1.
After you kill them he walks up the walkway going into BRM and about 3 to 4 dragons spawn but they are easy to kill.
Lastly he take you into BRM and nothing more to kill and he will kindly be killed before he can laugh his last laugh!

As 57 druid, feral doesn't seem to be an option for this.
Instead I switched to resto and kept rooting him + hurricane (it doesn't seem to break roots). When you get respawns, use nature's grasp since you're not allowed to root two targets.

As noted above, this can be a very difficult quest to solo. This quest has NOT had the elites removed like in other quests. I was trying to solo this as a L55 feral druid in blues.

First off, if you aren't a class that can solo elites and/or can self heal and/or are well above the level requirement, don't waste your time. The mobs in the stronghold are a pain since there are plenty of groups and pats.

Next, Grark himself has 22K and hits like a truck. You may only need to get him down to 30%, but it is hard. If you manage to get him shackled you now need to get back out of the fortress, past the faster than average respawns. Once outside you can just avoid any mobs he walks though by staying at range and keeping him in sight. That way you don't need to kill everything. For the ambushes just make sure you are at range so you don't get aggro when they pop. (aggro is not automatic)

The first pack is a four corner formation around the escort mob, with 2 elite and 2 non-elite on opposite corners. They pop once you have cleared the fortress area and are near the rocks. You can body pull them individually, or at worst in pairs. At the base of the path up into Blackrock Mountain comes another 2 elite and 2 non-elite combo, but they run in as a pack right up to the escort mob. This poses a problem. I found I was able to kill one, then run and leash the mobs by running in a large circle around the escort mob to keep him in view. (If he 'fades' out because you ran too far away you will fail the quest.) So I went in and killed one, leashed the rest, then killed another etc.

The problem?

The escort mob has a timer, and if you don't kill them fast enough the quest fails. I didn't time it (I should have) but it felt like 3 minutes. I was able to get 3 down and was just engaging the forth when the quest failed and he vanished.

I'm not going to try again for now, I'll leave it a few levels and see how it goes. Perhaps this may help others who want to solo this though. Either bring a friend, or else be ready to face what this quest has to dish out.

This quest doesn't mention anything about bringing a party as it well should. I am attempting this on my 55 resto druid. Dpsing him the first couple times in his room took so long the adds respawned on top of me. After that I brought one of my 80's to clear the place and tried again with success. Took the quest from him to escort and went cat thinking i could stealth and he would grab aggro being my tank. Not so much, nothing aggros him not even imps or dragons. I pulled the whole base and died. But when i came back he was still marching. I followed stealthed till he spawned 4 adds. I attempted to kite them but that just left my wandering into a pack of imps and my death again. I came back and he was still there. I pulled one add from a distance and killed it and they all despawned and he continued. Stealthed till the bridge to the mountain and he spawned 4 more adds. I got roflstomped twice and killed 2 dragons and in the middle of killing the last orc, he despawned and quest failed. Very frustrating quest. Going to level a bit or get help for it. Enemies shield bash to so casters beware.

Warning to geared 80 dpsers: it's quite easy to hit him for 40% of his health, meaning, you kill him before he turns friendly again.

Like the post above says, don't accidentally kill him. I did it, and it took 5 minutes before he respawned. If you're using an 80 (or above) to do this, just attack him two times at most, and then stop and try your shackles on him.

when you attempt to shackle this guy he will aggro and attack you, you need to fight him and take him down to 1/3 hp when he will become friendly and start the escort quest... he hits hard and has much armor this quest is in no way soloable.
the escort starts and you will walk with him to blackrock mountain, on the way he will stop twice and spawn two elites and two normal mobs. before entering the mountain he will spawn 3 elite dragons before going inside. once inside 5-6 non elites will attack you, grark will not stop walking so you need to kill fast or he will leave the quest range and you will fail. at the top of the ramp inside he will again spawn two elites and two non elites, after these the quest is done. completed with 60 rogue 60 hunter 60 shaman

I was killed while escorting him at the entrance of Black Rock Mountain.

The quest said failed, so i abandoed it and speaked again with Lexlort in Kargath. There is an option to tell him i lost the Shackles, but nothing happens and he does not give the quest again.

Any idea how to get the quest again?

Get Grark down to 25% health or so and he submits to you. Then start the next quest to escort him to Blackrock Mountain. He walks through tons of NPC camps, but you can just ignore them and walk around and he'll be fine. He calls 2 elites and 2 non elites, and if you stand far enough back they don't aggro and he stands still. Then you can pick them off one by one with sap/sheep/charm/etc. and he starts walking again. Then he gets to the bottom of the Blackrock Mountain ramp and calls 2 elites humanoids and 2 elite dragonkin. Again, stand far back and you can take your time. About 200 feet up the ramp he summons 3 56-57 dragons, but they seem to have low HP or something because they went down pretty fast. Then when you get into the mountain, he laughs and a few seconds later about 10 or so non-elites run at you from around the corner. If you have a rogue/druid, you can have them stealth along with Grark and have the rest of the party wait. Grark will go up alittle bit farther, and call 3 humanoid elites and a 58 dragon. Wait for a bit and the 10 non elites will despawn and your party can catch up with you. Then sap/sheep/etc. and once you beat the last guys some green Horde NPCs come out and chop off his head. There are a few tricks to make this quest easier for you and your group. First, clear the trash mobs out of the yard in front of Grark's stronghold FIRST, then get in there and defeat him fast. They will not have respawned by the time you bring him out.

When you are walking with him towards the mountain, do not walk directly on top of him, stay somewhat to his left. By doing this, you will be able to avoid the unrelated camps of mobs he will walk through. This isn't an ordinary escort quest; he WON'T aggro non-quest mobs if your party doesn't come in their range. He's one of the bad guys, he's friends with all these mobs! The only mobs you have to fight are the ones that he spawns himself.

The first few groups he spawns are easy if you have a full party, because he stands still for them. But when you get up on the ramp, for the last couple of groups he will continue walking. You must pay attention to this and continue moving with him even as you're fighting the mobs. Don't get distracted. If he gets too far ahead of you, the quest will fail.

If you're having a hard time and you play on a PvE server, try doing the quest during peak time when many people are hanging around the mountain. The mobs aren't particular about who they attack, and several times while we were doing the quest some of them got trained away by people trying to help, or just innocent bystanders. This will help you, not hurt you (though it will hurt the people who get jumped by the elites!).

How far through BRM does he need to go? All the way through?

I read this quest and immediately thought "You've got to be kidding" I have trouble getting into BRS and BRD without getting ganked by the Alliance guilds waiting to do MC and ganking all horde in the zone. If he seriously needs to go all the way through BRM I think I may need to get the entire guild together. Or do it right before maintenance.

Well this quest is still bugged. Sad that someone reported this to blizzard 3.5 months ago and it still isn't fixed. I soloed him btw with the felguard and fear chains. I even aggroed another mob in the process yet still took him down.

Once you do that though he is bugged.

Just Solo'd this quest as a 60 hunter (tier 2/2 pieces tier 3) with a level 52 pet atm >.>

Had no trouble with the 4 non-elites, but for the 2 elite 2 non-elite spawn, i didn't aggro them as soon as they spawned, so I shot one of the 2 non-elite orcs and ONLY the 2 orcs came.. the 2 dragonkin stayed where they were... so i rested up then killed those 2.

For the 3 Searingscale drakes, I killed the first one far enough away from where Grark stops pathing so I didn't aggro the 2nd 2 that spawn. for the next two.. they were too close together to pull separately by then, so I sent the pet in, had it tank one while I played aggro ping-ping with the other one/burned down the one the pet was tanking.

Just to confirm, found him in Blackrock Stronghold in Burning Steppes, beat him down until he was friendly. Tried to put shackles on him a few times but it didnt seem to matter. 3 sets of spawns came, all of them so low that I could stealth out and come back at will (69 Rogue). Ran into the 3 dragons and got them stacked up on top of each other, so that would have been too hard to solo. Waited 5-10 min and they timed out until there was one left, then I killed him. Went into BR, he laughed as we turned the corner to head up the ramp. Then we got to the top of the ramp and he said something like "now you're going to get it" and then he kneeled. THere was a "Shadow of Lexlort" and some other commander in red armor. They didnt say anything, but the prisoner kneeled, then died. I was trying to shackle him but I guess that is irrelevant. Then they all faded out and my quest log said I was done, so I went back to Kargath, got the reward, and it was all good.

When you use the shackles, he turns aggro, you got to slap him to around 50% of his HP then the quest is complete. Tried it alone, didnt work, then with a 60 rogue (i'm 60 too), worked.

Did this on classic for lore only. 2 warriors (one arms one fury tank) 1 shadow priest (wearing holy gear). More difficult than most elite quests. Is not in BRD although is in the quest log as a dungeon quest. When you encounter the npc (elite), hit him until he hits about 20%, then disengages from combat and starts an escort quest (mark him with an icon to make him easier to track). When the group accepts you will encounter 3 groups of elite mobs. The first is 4 melee elites (56-57). He will have quest dialogue. After this group let the prisoner walk thru the Dragonkin mobs as they don’t aggro him, but will aggro you if you get to close. He will then quest dialogue before then second squad that is more leets slightly higher in level (57-59). After you destroy this group You will be up the bridge to BRM, and three elite dragons spawn (58-60) (again with the quest dialogue). Pretty straightforward as an escort quest... although you will need a group of two (at least if you’re geared and have heals). Even with a thunderfury equipped war we failed once as we thought it would be a cake walk, and had to redo. Leads to a quest to kill Angerforge and get some necklace that is horde specific. Avoidable, but as a OG vanilla player felt good to complete this quest as it’s moderately challenging and adds to the classic lore.

Grark Lorkrub is bugged 11/09/2021 TBC Classic.

Grark Lorkrub is “green” friendly to me, I can’t attack him to reduce his life even using Thorium Shackles on him. Impossible to complete this quest.

I’ve tried everything, he doesn’t disappear and he doesn’t respawn either. Even using the shackles on him, he doesn’t change to hostile and he doesn’t attack me, making it impossible to reduce his life to capture him. Also does not start the scort quest.

Travel to the Burning Steppes and find Grark Lorkrub. You recall Lexlort mentioning that he was last seen in a massive Blackrock fortress.

When you find Grark Lorkrub, use the Thorium Shackles to bind him and then lead him back through Blackrock Mountain to the Searing Gorge. Lexlort will have his men waiting on the other side to take Grark into custody.

I tracked him across the Searing Gorge, through the mountain, and into the Burning Steppes. That traitor was caught red-handed giving the Blackrock orcs vital information about our day to day operations. I'm speaking of Grark Lorkrub.

He now sits in the Burning Steppes, safely under their protection - or so he thinks.

Take these shackles, <name>. Find Grark, place the shackles on him and lead him through Blackrock Mountain. Do this and a tribute is yours.
