The most heartbreaking quest I have ever done.
For those of you who want to know how this questline ends, Rhea goes to hide the egg in a cave, but Deathwing shows up to eliminate the purified egg and Rhea herself.
Rhea begs that Deathwing show mercy on the egg but he torches them both and flies away.
You investigate the cave and discover that the egg was not the black dragon egg you've worked so hard to purify, but rather one of Rhea's own eggs. Rhea chose to lose one of her own children rather than sacrifice the black dragon egg, which is hidden somewhere not mentioned.
The quest reward is Rhea's last egg in the form of a trinket that summons a red dragon whelp to defend you.
Absolutely heartwrenching.

I have never teared up at a WoW quest, but this baby made me cry! I, also, cannot bring myself to sell that precious egg. That little snippet of text gets me everytime :( Blizzard, you have outdone yourself on this one!

Man, I cant wait till the fight against Deathwing, I told my entire guild to do the questline, and we all agreed to scream: FOR RHEA! when we get into the fight to beat his ass.
I also cant wait to find out what role that little purified egg plays in the future..... maybe he/she might even help us in the fight against DW......

That ending just put a whole new spin on the quests and Rhea. The whole time she was talking about the horrible things she had to do to get the purified egg, it sounded less like she was trying to convince us that what she was doing was right, but trying to convince herself. She knew all along that to get the egg out safely, she'd have to make the black dragons think the egg was destroyed, by sacrificing herself and one of her unborn children. She wasn't regretting what she did, she was psyching herself up just to go through with this insane plan.

In 4.0.1, seems the quest is a little bit glitched. Or the cinematic is - spent the entire time staring at the back wall of the cave, unable to even see the text.

Even with my addon Quest Completist I can't find Rhea or Dr. Hieronymous, nobody giving quests at those locations.

The quest description is bugged for this quest ID 27859, "The Egg Lives On." Both Wowhead and the quest tooltip linked in the game say, "Wait as Rhea retrieves the egg from the Hidden Clutch." Obviously wrong since Rhea is dead. That description is for the previous quest ID 27898, Rheastrasza's Gift

The completion text is at least correct by Dr. Hieronymus Blam.

I had just finished the quest before this when i finally got loremaster of Badlands. So I left at that and moved on. One day while skimming through Wowhead, I was lead to this. I remembered her bravery and returned just to get the reward and keep my promise. I will always take care of him.

The egg truly DOES live on.
If you go to 46.96, 56.97 (Agamond's End, Dr. Heironymus Blam's camp) you still see the Purified Black Dragon Egg from when you turned in the Eye of the Watchers to him.
