Ran this today. You have to kill all the trash in each of the six sub-rooms in order to bring out Gandling; not just the mini-bosses. Otherwise, he won't spawn.

The occultists become dark shades. As a Death Knight, I had to use death and decay, let it cool down, then use it again before they would die. Not sure what other classes have to do.

As a druid, I was able to use Hurricane to finish off those immune dark shades.

Run this instance today, solo. I had looked up this quest to find out how to 'lure' Darkmaster Gandling. You will need to kill all 6 professors in each room and their minions. Also, there is the issue of the 'Dark Shade' which the occultists transform into. Now if you can do magic, then you have no problem. But I have an 85 Rogue and found that some of the tricks previously suggested did not work. The best way to deal with these occutists is to use Stealth, Sap & Ambush.
Kill them before they transform.

I did this solo as a warrior today and as the other post said you have to kill the occultists before they transform. If they have already transformed go out the instance, return in without resenting, go back to the chamber where the occultist are and kill one by one as fast as posible, then Gandling will appear.
