when turning this in at ratchet, of course its horde territory and a horde city, but right outside theres always a group of horde surrounding the npc.

do your best to be stealthy. i suggest hiding behind the mountains and come around from the northern side to talk to the npc without being seen. make sure to hide your pet behind the building to lessen the risk of the horde seeing you.

This quest does NOT have the perfect drop rates that everyone claims. Had to kill for about 30 minutes with a friend to get the 3 darned rods. Good luck.

As of 2.3 the rods have been alot harder to get, i have atleast killed 10 now and i havet got a single one, ( both kind of the casters )

I'd estimate the drop rate to be about 33% for both types of casters too.

If you come from Arathi Lands, follow the road south. You will pass a Goblin Vendor then you will reach a GY area. Cross it, and climb the mountain till you see the camp. I've killed 3 of them and I've got the 3 rods.

If you don't get it. Get into the GY area, looking to the mountain, at your left, like 20 yds there's the entrance to the camp, wich you have to clear a lot of orcs to get into the camp, but it will be ok.

For a 30 lvl warlock this quest is really piece of cake. You will fight mostly lvl 24 moobs.

I found more Bonewarders than Shadowwarders when I went in to do the quest. Took killing 8 of them to get all 3 wands and wasn't too difficult.

Neither type of caster has a 100% drop rate for this quest item. It's all luck based, really, whether you get all 3 from the first 3 casters you kill or not. Just keep at it, it's not too difficult a quest to do, as most of the Orcs in the area should be green or grey to you by the time you do this quest and easy to kill or skirt around. Good luck! =)

Just wanted to add the Dragonmaw Bonewarders drop rate isn't as bad as 1/4 I would say its more like 50% took me like 2 mins to get the rods.

Go to the road section just before the first turn off, the blocked one to Grim Batol.

Go to the cliffs, and into a cul-de-sac with a tree in it, around 54,56. Climb up the cleft to the NW.

This puts you in the back end at Chieftain Nek'Rosh's camp. There are a bunch of Shadow Warders and a Bone Warder here interspaced with Centurions and the Chieftain. I cleaned it up once ( a ret pally was there ahead of me ), walked off, and returned 20 minutes later to clean it out again. Killing five spell-casters total got me all three sections.

Corruption and Curse of Tongues on the spell casters, and Corruption, Curse of Agony, and Fear on the Centurions ... dot'em up fear them, and sic the voidie into their midst before shooting them up. Real busy, but do-able.

im lvl 42 now, dont know if thats the problem or if its something else, but it doesnt drop for me, killed like 15 bonewarder, help plox!

This quest it's pretty simple. If you enter Wetlands ,from the north, continue the trail south until you reach Angerfang Encampment. The orcs that have the rods are the Dragonmaw Bonewarder, to spot them they carry a staff. They have a minion, a skeleton. This quest it's fairly simple. After this you'll go to Ratchet to get your summon.

I killed a ton of raiders and got nothing...then I started killing Bonewarders and they dropped all the rods fairly quickly.

The whole quest is a bit of a run around compared to the other minion ones but not that difficult. i did it as soon as i made 30, all you need is a bit of patience and your VW and ull be fine soloing it

Just completed this, and it actually wasn't too bad at all. I just had to wait for respawns alot ><.

The easist way I found to do it was to go into the area and find a spot that nothing spawns too close at. Make it your little camp, and start clearing everything around it one at a time, because chances are things might respawn as the type for need to kill for the rods.
As far as fighting goes - the dual wielders are ALOT worse than the one's with the skeletons (Just stick Void on the orc, beat up the skeleton, and then move to help your minion :D). The dual wielders hit really fast and like to mess up your spells, but it's not too bad. Drop rate was maybe 1/3 - I wasn't keeping count. Oh, and if you want to speed up the process greatly, bring along some Mana recovery drink, because some of these guys take alot of Shadowbolts to put down.

All in all, this is fairly easy. (Solo-able at 30) Enjoy felhunter!

Being alliance ive known the location of these guys ever since that stupid flag quest in the wetlands, but for those of you that are horde its simple to get to the wetlands if you dont know how...go to arathi highlands and go south to the next area....you are now in the wetlands...
now to get to the mage guys follow the road as far south as it goes. the road will split at the end... but instead of going either way when it splits go south until you get to the graveyard...the place u need to go is right behind it. walk around that area you will find the way in.

I never saw a "bonewarder" but.. there is a camp, up behind the mountain, in between two "hills" of sorts.. and the Dragonmaw Shadowarder's dropped the Rod's of Channeling for me.

I couldn't get singles from the "main" camp, only 2 at a time, so I chose to be safe with the 3-4 that spawn on the hills surrounding the main tent.. That is all you need for the quest,..

Only had one alliance mess with me, a 32 mage gnome -- Who I thought was a mob, and killed thinking such -- To my surprise when I went to loot I discovered it was some "pvp" action.

Btw,.. did this solo at level 30 --

Lots of running around, and learning "where places are" -- If you are new to the game or haven't explored these areas.

The time it takes to find all the spots, is well spent, as it broadens your "horizons" a bit, and gives you more places to hunt at your level --

As for the pet, I'm about to turn in to the final guy now -- Although I don't believe I'll be using my Felhunter much.. Succubus has always been the pet of choice.

I already went to 1k needles and i got part of the moldy tome.....but then where do i go for the other half? is it Wetlands or near Southshore?

1. This quest is ridiculously easy to do at 30. Voidwalker or succubus makes it even easier.

2. The drop rate is very good.

3. The rods only (I repeat, ONLY) drop off the Bonewarders. NOT the raiders or the swampwalkers. If you've been killing those and complain that the drop rate sucks, guess what? You're killing the wrong damn mobs.

4. Wetlands is a pain to get to for the Horde, but not impossible. It's just a really long walk.

Okay, as far as this quest goes, rather easy, got my 3 rods off the first 3 bonewarders I killed.

As far as the rest of the post, lets have bliz take a look at an outline of just all the traveling involved with getting a felhunter on ally.

Part 1:
Start in Stormwind, go to Ratchet. That involves flying to Booty Bay, and flying to Stormwind on the way back. Not too bad there.

Part 2:
Start in Stormwind, tram to Ironforge. Not much here either.

Part 3:
Start in Ironforge, must go to southshore, Hillsbrad and to Thousand Needles. Alright, fly to southshore, get item, fly back to Ironforge, tram to Stormwind, fly to Booty Bay, boat to Ratchet, WALK to Thousand Needles, get item, WALK back to Ratchet, boat to Booty Bay, fly to Stormwind, tram for Ironforge.

Part 4:
Start in Ironforge, must get items in wetlands, take them to Ratchet. Fly to wetlands, do your thing, fly back to Ironforge, tram to Stormwind, fly to Booty Bay, boat to Ratchet.

Part 5:
No traveling here, thank God. Just summon the felhunter, pwn it, finally end this God forsaken quest.

Seperately you may think well thats not so bad, but all the traveling put together, added with the killing mobs, added with pvp problems makes this together take at least an hour to accomplish. Rediculous.

I solo'd it with My Succy.

If you look on your map you can see Angerfang Encampment west of Wetlands. There are 2 huts on the map. I entered right, near the graveyard and kept to the right side. I killed about 8 raiders before I reached the middle (between the 2 huts on big map). From there you have lots of Bonewardens with their bony friends.

From advice above I set succy on the warden, killed bony myself then helped my little pet. I only needed to kill 4 Wardens to get the rods.

I am now in Dustwallow marsh trying to get to Ratchett (again)

The 3 Rods of Channeling can be found on Dragonmaw Bonewarders and Dragonmaw Shadowwarders. These can be found at 49, 45 in Wetlands, which is south of Arathi Highlands.
When you enter Wetlands, from the north, continue the trail south until you reach the crossroads. To the right there will be a graveyard, go through the grave yard and over the hill. Just the other side of the hill there will be 3 Dragonmaw Bonewarders and 1 Dragonmaw Shadowwarder in a camp.

this quest is easy when your lvl 38.... but MUCH easier with other locks! it is about a 75% drop off of the bonewarders. i killed 4 and got 3!

Just did this quest, on lvl 30, horde side...
Didn't have any problems, solo'd it with my VW...
Walked from Tarren Mill, to the wetlands. Made a quick stop in Hammerfall for my flight path :)

As for the drop rate of the channeling wands, I killed 5 bonewarders, and got the 3 items..

I went to 50,50 in Wetlands, despite having some troubles getting there on the way due to Alliance encounters. I killed 3 Bonewarders and got 3 rods. Drop rates seem very reasonable.

Took a previous posters advice and went in behind graveyard. Go up the hill and there they are. 49,43 are the coords. I killed 4 Bonewarders and their minions and 2 dual wielders. There were no adds, i pulled them by corrupting their minion, and then once close, I attacked bonewarder with VW to hold aggro while i downed the skellie. Sat down to drink once. 6 kills and done. Very easy. The mobs are L28, c'mon, if a 30 lock can't take down these, you need to reroll another class.

the only way to obtain the channeling rods is to kill dragonmaw bonewarder's so before you go and start killin the other orcs take out those they are found in the hill the the encampment.

The rods can be had from either the Bonewarders or the Shadowwarders. The drop rate was the same on my trip - 40%.

did this realy easy, there is a couple of little camps, i went into like the 3rd (not so many mobs) took obout 3 easy with imp and had 2 kill for of the 1's with a staff and done :)

Go to the grave yard in wetlands Coords 49,41. That is the middle of the grave yard. Go up into the hills BEHIND the graveyard (the camp you want is on the other side)and kill only the Bonewarder. They are really excessable! Did this in about 5 minutes as a lvl 32 Lock. EASY!

Funny people saying "I did it at level 38 etc" you get your class quest every 10 levels!

It was easy when I did it, level 30 with my VW, they are only 24's so they die very quick, I followed the path down through wetlands and went behind the graveyard up the hill and there they were!

I did this quest, well, I'm doing it atm, but every one of the caster orcs was standing *in* not just next to, about half a dozen raiders, making it virtually impossible to pull one at a time. Anyone else had this problem?

I went is as a level 30 warlock with my voidwalker. Initially I went way south of Angerfang Encampment to see what was there. So on my way back north I stopped at the southernmost of what appears to be several encampments of orcs. Seemed too easy to walk in. I think a bunch of Alliance players had gone through first and corpses had faded before the respawn, so I got in easy, found an encampment in the back they had missed, and got my 3 bonewarders clean and easy, then cleaned out the rest of the camp for fun. But then when I tried to go out the way I came in there were a lot more orcs than I had seen going in. So rather than get bogged down, I just hearthstoned it back out. Pretty easy really.

I had to kill 16 casters. 4 Shadowwarders and 12 Bonewarders before I got the three rods. All three dropped from the Bonewarders.

I got the three needed off of the first three Bonewarders, too. I'm thinking that if you have the quest, it's a very high drop rate. The 6% listed rate isn't really a good indicator of the actual drop rate, it seems.

When you see the Graveyard from the road in the Wetlands (right by the bride north to the Arathi Higlands at 49.39), run through the Graveyard, up over the hill. Right on the other side of the hill are several of the Bonewarders ... you don't have to fight through a bunch of the rest of the mobs to get them.

the spot where they are is at the fork by the vendor named kixxle. the fork is the one where u can go to highlands or menethil. theres a grave yard there its south of grave yard in the hills

I headed back to get more rods, but I pretty much cleaned out the camp and got no drops at all. And, going back to Jorah Annison doesn't help.

When going to turn in your rods, you may want to bring a few friends, as after this, you're on the 'kill summon, recieve summon' part of this quest line. You have to do this part in Ratchet, even if you are Alliance, which makes you easy pickings on a pvp server. The first time I tried it, I was CC'ed for a good long while by a skull-level rogue. Second time was at 10am EST and I snuck in through Theramore rather than going on the boat from Booty Bay, so I met with considerably less resistance, heh.

Can't count how many times I got ganked by alliance doing this but I did it. Mainly while traveling to get there. Once you get there, travel up the mountains from the east at the southern point, there's a nice little cove where you can hide and pull the mobs too. I only got ganked once in the proccess of killing the mobs.

Big help going up over the back of the graveyard... There's Bonewarders around the top of the hill... No rod dropped off the first guy, but the next three did. Not bad, 4 kills to get the three rods...

Pretty easy one, just level 24's and the drop rate is pretty high,killed total of 5 and got all 3.

Here is an example of using the right Demon for the job. This quest has you attacking a few individual humaniods who are packed in with others in close proximity to each other. This means that your Warlock and your Demon will have to face multiple attackers at the same time. if only there was a way to control the crowd of Humanoids trying to spoil your assualt on the Dragonmaw Bonewarders! Forget the wimp Imp, The purple Barney look alike Voidwalker is of little help. This quest was probably written for your succubus. In my assualt I target the Dragonmaw Bonewarders, She charmed all the others who got involved and this turned into a one on one match till they were all cleared. Took 5 minutes to get all three rods.

Moral? Use the best Demon for the right scenerio!

WoW Classic Update: These do not have a 100% drop rate. My drop rate was about 50%. Avoid the mobs near the catapults, as they are usually linked mobs. Go further up the hill to find solo mobs.

Well, ah, it's hard to let it go. But you found it, and you have more important things to do with it, of course. Just, please, be sure to mention to Strahad that I wanted a copy.

While you were out, he sent a message for you. He wanted me to tell you that for his acolytes to assist with the summoning, you'll have to acquire three rods of channeling.

He might not know where to find them, but I do! They were last used by the orcs of the Dragonmaw clan in the Wetlands. I'd check their spellcasters!
