The reward Dempsey's Gloves is possible a reference to Jack Dempsey, an American boxer who held the world heavyweight title from 1919 to 1926

Could be a reference to the zombie mode in the Call of Duty series, as one of the zombie killer's names is Dempsey. In-game, Dempsey calls his brain-hungry foes freakbags instead of fleabags. The other obvious difference is that you're fighting off Worgen, not zombies.
