Same for me, just fished in the sewer; took a little while but I got it with maxxed fishing and a +100 fish hook. You don't have to worry about waiting a couple seconds like the black darter daily pre wrath or anything either. I thought you might from reading the quest but apprently not ^.^

I highly recommend going into Cantrips & Crows to do this daily.

I stood around in the Circle of Wills fishing along with a bunch of other people for well over 20 minutes before deciding to switch locations. I caught the Corroded Jewlry within my first five casts of being in Cantrips & Crows. While exiting the sewers I noticed all the same players that were in the Circle of Wills were still standing there. :)

This is probably the easiest fishing daily. Head into the Sewers of Dalaran and catch the Corroded Jewelry. Once you catch it head back to the fountain in Dalaran to turn in the quest.

Chance to catch is about 20%.
This fish can be caught at any level.
Rewards Kirin Tor reputation and another random reward.

I picked up fishing for the first time on my main today from the chick who gives the dailies in Dalaran. I bought a basic fishing pole and grabbed this daily quest. I went down to Cantrips and Crows and started fishing. Mostly was junk but when I hit skill level 36 (about that many casts) I fished up the quest item.

In other words: you can fish up THIS daily item, regardless of level. This may not be the case with others but so far it works ok. Could be like the TBC fishing dailies. You could be level 1 for the one in a capital city but needed appropriate level for the ones out in the world. Will return with more info tomorrow.

Just to confirm, you can do all the fishing dailies regardless of fishing skill with the changes to "fish got away" and low level fishing mechanics. Most are easy enough, but the Terrorfish in Wintergrasp quest may take longer than you want to spend (or can afford to depending on world PvP on your server) if you don't have close to max level fishing. 10 drops takes a long time with low fishing skill.

20 casts in cetrip and crows and it appeared, i cast the next one before it finished looting, took even more casts to get it the 2nd time.

I doubt there's anything special about the drop rate here, just people who get lucky jumping to conclusions as usual. Have you people learned nothing about rng yet?

completed this quest today on my main, has fishing 400. Took me 22 casts to get the quest item got mostly junk before that :) Opened the bag of fishing treasures and got TWO blue items...one was a fishing pole that has +30 Bone Fishing Pole also got a cloth head item Weather-beaten Fishing Hat has +5 fishing and has a use to attach a +75 lure to your pole for 10 mins...only has 10 min CD YAY NO MORE CARRYING LURES :)

Did this quest today based on the comments. Started at 50/75 skill fishing. Finally caught at 166/225 skill, over 100 casts later. I started using a +100 lure at 125 and this seemed to change the drops from all grays to the occasional magic eater or sewer carp. I'm not sure if this was due to luck or skill level. I started in the Circle of Wills and switched to Cantrips and Crows about half way through. <end WoT>

Make sure to fish in the deep part!
I spent 30 minutes in the shallows with no luck. Moved over to the dock and had the item in 30 seconds.

Been trying for the Giant Sewer Rat for awhile now. Well; got this daily and caught the Giant Sewer Rat and the Corroded Jewelry in the same cast. To boot, got the Bone Fishing Pole in my bag as a reward!

Tried this Fishing Daily with my Shaman, got my skill from 1 to 80 but it didn't drop, used appropriate level lures (+25 for 1-75 and +50 for 75+) Either I'm very unlucky or they changed the way you can catch Daily Quest items with 3.1.1 (since some posters told they got it in 3.1.0 with very low fishing skill)
But whats the point of Fishing Daily Quests being available when you have learn the fishing skill if you can't catch it without an appropriate skill level?

I got 450 fishing, did like 20 casts and got nothing. Attached a +75 lure and got it the first try.

I've been at this quest for 2 days. I haven't been in a raid and my fishing skill was at 115 and it's now at 186... I only get a skill point every 3-4 casts so that puts me at around 250 casts... I've also gotten 2 levels of the "Fish" achievement, 50 and 100.

This blows.

EDIT: Finally got it. got to 187 fishing and around 260 casts.

Your fishing level seems to influence the tries to catch. I guess you need at least a 'low' change to catch this fish.

With fishing lvl 1 i needed about 200 tries to get the jewel.
With fishing lvl 380(280+100) i needed only 1 try to get the jewel

Fish off the dock to the left of the inn as you approach. Fish the deep waters, not the 6" deep streams in the walkways.

With fishing skill 365, +5 pole, and +75 lure, it took me about 25-30 casts to get it on the 2nd try. On the first try, I gave up. lol

I'm on the Burning Blade server. Horde side and marcia has not yet given this quest out yet...i've asked around trade and such and asked an no1 else has gotten this quest to complete the achievment. Is anyone else having this problem on this one quest O.o?

Worth noting: Even though it CAN be gotten at any skill, as goes for any fishing quest I gather, the chance decreases the lower your skill, or so I would think. I suppose you only have a chance to get the quest item/fish/whatever on "white fishings" ergo non-trash. And at lower levels, trash is fished up often.

My fishing on my 80 warlock was around 270 buffed skill... and it took about 30 casts to get this item in the Cantrips and Crows Tavern . I switched to my 80 druid and his fishing was 77 when I started at the same tavern. I finally got the item.. his fishing skill is now 176. (I had to go learn 150 from the trainer first) I am not sure if the fishing skill level is directly related to the amount of casts it takes, but at least you don't have to be 450 to do the new fishing dailies.

The evidence in this forum supports your thesis, it doesn't prove it though. After all random drops are random and ppl report widely varying results.

Here's a summary of ppl's experiences in here:
Fishing Level - Number of Casts
~150 - 130 (this is me, 2 tries -70 then 60 casts. Peggle ftw)
270 - 30
176 - ~300
445 - 60+ (30 + he gave up on first try, I'm guessing his tolerance is above 30 casts)
587 - 1
405 - 6
1 - 200
380 - 1
36 - 36
184 - 314
365 - 74

Chance to catch is about 20%.

If the droprate is consistently 20% over all levels, you'd very rarely find yourself casting more than 30 times. So this is probably not correct for all levels. The reports of 0,5-4% seems more likely.

Went to fishing in sewers with fishing skill of 4 after taking this quest. Finally when I managed to fish the quest item my fishing skill was 124. In my case random loot was pretty random and not in my favour. I was using the cheapest fishing rod and no lures of any kind.

I had to listen to Johnny Be Good only three times until I got the Corroded Jewelry. Which you can fish up in the Dalaran Sewers.

So, not too bad.

The quest can take a little bit of time, given that I've managed to level up 65 points in fishing while trying it the first time.

On the other hand, ever so often you get magic eater fish with random results from eating them, which lightens up the time spent.

I'll go back and give it a bit more time later, but it can take a while under the newest patch.

Anyone not familiar with the underside of Dalaran and can't seem to catch the item...location, location, location. Location is the key. I was fishing to the "right" (on map) of the Circle of Will in the Underbelly. I casted 20 times with no luck. Cross over the circle of will and go the Catnips place (just like everyone who's caught it first time said). It is clearly labeled on your map and very easy to find. Go out to the end of the dock and cast. Caught it first try!

I don't know whether or not it is intended, but you can in fact get Corroded Jewelry from the Dalaran fountain. The drop chance seems low, but it might be nice to keep in mind if you're still working on the The Coin Master achievement.

Might be my @#$% luck but i had to fish 1-125 b4 i got the ring. Also used strong fishing pole (+5) and +100 lure.thats 230 skill from my experience. Took aboult 30 min.

This coin may also be fished in the Dalaran fountain, however the drop rate may be lower (unsure)

I caught the item at the fountain with level 349 fishing skill with my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole equipped after a few too many catches. The number of unsuccessful catches may just be due to my level, but...

Doing this daily today, I discovered something.

I caught a Partially Eaten Fish and the jewelry at the same time. A Partially Eaten Fish is a grey item. Therefore, the theory of catching a white or better quality item being required is false.

Did this first time today on my lvl 77 warlock, and got it on my nineteenth throw. With no lure attached. So 0 to 19 in skill level and caught it. On my 80 paladin I went from 0 to 230:ish before catching it. So either I were very lucky, or they nerfed chanse to catch it.

Picked up fishing today on both my Rogue and Druid and went to level it while fishing in the sewer's. On my druid i caught the quest item at skill 92 and with my rogue at 91.

This daily quest as a PITA. It took me FOREVER to find the corroded jewelry. I started off with the basic fishing pole and skill level ~160. I finally hit 200 (after leveling after every 3rd or 4th catch) and switched to Seth's Graphite Fishing Pole (which requires 200 skill level to use), and gt the jewelry on the 3rd cast. Not sure if it was coincidence or what, but I was about ready to give up on this daily.

After fishing for over 1 hour with max skill and +75 lure in the sewers, I gave up and went to a raid. When returning to Dalaran I sat down by the fountain for the two gold coins I miss for achivment. Got the Jewlery on second cast, bobber landed in the middle of the fountain. Random is Random.

make sure you aren't in a raid group. i just spent more than a half-hour trying to fish it up and watching all these people come fish beside me and leave when they got it. then i realized i was in the raid group, left it and caught it in the next few casts.

seems like this quest require no fishing skill level, also any chr lvl can do it (mage portal to Dala and there you got sanctuary), so, the question is:

Can confirm that this item for the quest is possible to fish up from the Dalaran fountain. Been spending time trying to get my last gold coin and out of surprise I got the Corroded Jewelry as I had that fishing daily since the day before. But do not try to fish for it permanently as it has a way lower droprate from there as the coins and other gray items that isn't fishable in the sewers is fishable up in the fountain making the droprate for the sewer items lower than down below Dalaran.

well worth the wait, for my 1st ever fishing daily, I got...15k xp @ lvl 70, 10g, a 16g vendor trash, and a runed cardinal ruby (23sp epic gem)

My guess (due to the fact that I had to fish my skill from 45 to 150 - while in the Sewers, on this quest - then I used a +75 bobber and caught the jewel) is that your skill needs to be at either 150 or 200 before it is possible to fish the quest item.

This was the exact same for me.. Maybe the drop chance is higher near the man fishing or maybe we got lucky.. But neverthless first cast and I got it.

This is impossible I was at Cantrips & Crows and after 50 fishing tries nothing just some junk. This is a good way to max fishing. You start the quest and by some time you will max your fishing. Maybe 200 fishing tries after that you will make the quest.

You can find the ''sweet spot'' @ 40=37 at the underbelly, I guess I was super lucky to catch a piece of that junk jewlery on my third cast, also you can gain another quest in the same area. Good luck fishing !

If you don't have anything to show coordinance, like me hopefully this helps. I went to the Black Market in the Underbelly. I fished right off the side of where Darahir (Regeants and Magical Goods) is set up. My fishing is maxed and using a Jeweled fishing pole, no lure or anything fished up the jewel on my 5th cast. You have to move around or just keep casting when it says you didn't land in fishable water, you will. Good Luck!

it would help to have a higher fishing skill. but you can add bright baubles, truesilver line, various fishing hats, rumsy lager, and a good fishing pole to "fake" your skill lvl. good luck

I have tried for two days to get the item. I read in the patch notes that you could fish it from anywhere, but still had no luck. Do you have to be above a specific lvl in order to catch it? I am at 150.

Caught in second cast at 258 fishing. When the bobber hits just wait 2-3 seconds and maybe you'll get lucky.

1: Fish in the deeper water, on the dock with the rowboat.

2: Wait until your bobber has stopped moving (a couple seconds after hooking fish) before reeling it in.

I had really good luck in the Black Market on both my characters. I tried the Circle of Wills in the middle with no luck, I tried the dock at Cantrips and Crows with no luck, although it was really crowded, then got it in 8 casts on one and 2 casts on the other in the Black Market.

Currently on about 80 attempts taking around 20 minutes with this quest. So ridiculous this RNG nonsense.

EDIT: Took 89 attempts and over 20 minutes. Not ideal.

Hard to believe that most people fish in the Dalaran Sewers for giant rats and mutated fish. Especially when those waters are filled with priceless jewelry - discarded by broken hearted fools, thieves, and careless drunks.

The trick is to let your hook drag the bottom and don't pull up too hard when you get something. Try it out, <name>. I'd be willing to trade whatever you find for a few trinkets of my own.
