The siphoning rod is a little quirky. I've found that if you kill the summoner first and then kill the minion it seems to work ok, but if you kill the minion first it frequently won't siphon.

Also it seems to have a time element on siphoning.. so loot and siphon quickly, don't let the bodies pile up.

Oddly there is no rep for this daily.

Trilless is correct -quite bugged.

kill them one at a time (1 group of two) and kill the summoner first. Also - any time you use the rod and it doesn't work, for whatever reason, you are in combat and it's tough to get out. Nothing hits you and it's not dangerous per sé, but you can't eat/drink etc...

Thanks for the coords 53, 33 of the summoning stone.

I was confused and was trying to do it in that green circle with an Obelisk where I was killing voidwalkers.

You need to use the rod within ten seconds of killing the demon (which explains why killing the demon first would make the rod not work since you propably spent the next ten seconds killing the humanoid).

Not sure if this quest is bugged or not...but I got the best results killing the Summoner first then the minion...there seems to be a timer to use the rod after you kill the minion.

is it just me or do the dailies at level 80 not make much sense as far as money goes? wowhead says 7g, plus 13g at level 80. all i get is 13g. can anyone explain this?

Kill both the minion and the humanoid, target the body of the minion and use the rod.

You need to use the rod on the Voidwalker (pet of the summoner) in about 10 seconds of time after you kill it. If not the bar will only go part of a way down when you try to use the item to get the dark matter from. When you have 5 of the dark matter go down below and click the skull pile with a giant purple crytal over it. After the Voidwalker walks out of the crystal then you finish the quest.

Looks to me the name of the quest is pointed to the people who wonder why the Syphoning Rod doesn't work and think it's a bug (I know I did).

But as the quest name states, it is Not a Bug, you just need to use it quickly after they die.

you need to kill the void summoners first, then the minion, then cast rod of siphoning on dead minion. otherwise the summoner will interrupt your cast and by the time youve killed the summoner you ran out of time.

A word of warning to hunters, warlocks and deathknights (and any class with a summonable pet who might want to use it).

If your pet gets the killing blow on the Minion, you will NOT be able to use the quest item on its corpse. Best to set your pet on the void summoner, while you focus on killing the Minion first, luckily they're very squishy and I (as a hunter) was able to kill the Minion before he got into melee range.

I have to disagree.

I had the same problem but jumped to a different conclusion. I assumed it was because my pet was killing the feeble minions before I could do any damage and therefore voiding the kill for me. I don't think this was it but anyway because of this I always killed the minions first and had no trouble siphoning them.

If you begin the siphoning process and it is interrupted for any reason, you cannot siphon again. I used my mage to sheep their masters and kill the minion first. I had no trouble siphoning while the master was still sheeped, then I finished off the masters.

This quest is bugged, but it's an easy one to deal with. I hear this isn't consistent for all players, but does affect quite a few (including me). The bug is that sometimes when you try to use the Rod of Siphoning on an Enslaved Minion, it will (a) not siphon dark matter; and (b) will briefly put you into combat instead. This happens when the Minion is NOT the last mob killed. To avoid it, be sure that the minion dies last.

In my case, if I am being attacked by two minions at the same time, the only one I can get the dark matter from is the last one killed. Also, if I am fighting a minion and another mob joins in, if the minion dies before the other mob or mobs, I can't get dark matter from it.

This bug has persisted through at least 2 patches, so I'm not sure why Blizz isn't dealing with it. It's annoying, but if you understand it, it's easy to work around.

The cultists have discovered the last messenger you summoned, <race>.

While it was quite informative, it's important that we continue to monitor their every move.

Use this rod to siphon the dark matter from the corpses of enslaved minions at Aldur'thar. Then use their summoning crystal to bring another dark messenger into being.

Until it is discovered, the messenger will serve as our eyes and ears, discreetly observing the actions of our enemy.
