This is frustrating, especially with lag, because the targets move only marginally slower than the speed of light. Try to position yourself on their flight path, preferably at a point where they turn a corner. Wait for them to fly towards you - do not try and chase them. Do this over a part of the glacier without Scourge: You will have to recover the item from the rider's corpse, and that will be tricky if it lands in a pack of hostile mobs.

The trick is to stay in the center, pick a target and predict where it's heading. They all move in circles, so that shouldn't be too hard. Bind the item to a key so you can easily fire it.

When you land to loot it, beware that there are the Fallen Hero 'packs' moving about the place.

I'm not sure why this happened, but I guess it might be good to know:
First I completed this quest, then as usual got the daily with the same object. But then after a little while I went back to Skybreaker, and I could pick up this quest again even tho dailys hadn't reset yet. Not sure if it's worth doing over and over, but you it might come in handy if you have an epic flyer.

For all those druids having trouble with this due to it being bugged for us.

I'll give you a guide as to how to best do it

Firstly unequip your armor, theres a good chance you'll die, its nice not having to worry about repair bills

To use the dartgun, you have to leave flightform. This means your going to fall, worse, using the dartgun puts you in combat, you can't shift into flightform agian, your going to hit the ground.
Use catform, and fly over an idea that has no mobs (or you've cleared of mobs)

Wait till you see a messenger come, when its nearly in range, leave flight form and use the wand, pays to have the wand hot keyed.
Once the wand has finished channelling, switch into cat form so you can take the fall.

All going well, you should be alive, out of combat, and with a dead messagers body nearby to loot.
Heal up, go into bird form, loot, rinse and repeat 5 more times.

I have no idea what all your whining is about. The Hammer Scout's are extremely easy to see, even on a great distance, and there is atleast 10 of them flying around in the zone where they can be found. If you ain't able to target them with your mouse, you got some serious (computer) problems and should honestly consider seeking help from the right people.

If you're an Engineer druid and have a Parachute Cloak or a cloak that has had Flexweave Underlay applied to it, it makes this much easier for druids. While using my Flexweave Underlay cloak not only did it slow my fall speed, but it took me out of combat letting me go back into Flight Form (while falling). Handy since once you hit the ground you're in the midst of alot of mobs.

Still recommend not wearing anything except the cape while you do this in case you lag or something and don't get the cloak open in time.

For coords lovers like me, go to approximately 47, 49. You'll see them in the air.

I found that it doesn't matter if you fly. You get dismounted regardless; even in Swift Flight Form. 40.1/59.6 is a small pinnacle with 4 or 5 heights to it. Stand on the 4th one up (at the edge) before the point at the top and spam the macro. Fly down (watch for mobs) and pick up loot. Rinse and repeat. Takes about 15 min total.

1. Make a Macro

2. Summon your flying mount (Druids use a mount - too annoying to use flight form)
3. Fly to cliffs at 48 51 and wait up in the air
4. Spam your macro whenever something flies close
5. Follow where the body goes, fly down and loot the quest object

This should get you all 6 kills with the minimum of fuss and none of your kills will land in the midst of any mobs. You will not need an epic flying mount, simply spam your macro.

my fellow druid, you can just stand on the east hills and spam the macro, e.g: 49,53.
some unlucky horde scout will fly above your head and you have a chance to shoot them down.
but it takes some time.

I found the best place is 47.8,52.2

I didn't have to use the macro and when I dropped them, they usually fell away from mobs. I didn't have to fight any to loot the corpses. I was able to tab them and had the dart gun on my buttons and hit that rotating if they were passing me to keep them in front of me. A lot easier than the comments make it sound.

I saw some alliance flying machines which I assume are for the horde version of this quest, and it seemed to me that they were only moving half as fast. Also, they were located above a much safer area with smaller groups of weaker enemies..

Sorry for the QQ here but I'm just a little miffed. I doubt that I'll be adding this one to my daily agenda.

In patch 3.0.8, the Orgrim's Hammer Scout fliers were slowed down, making them easy to catch. The only challenge now is fighting off the Converted Hero packs the corpses often land close to.

This quest seems to be a daily quest. It doesn't say anything about it in the quest log and I don't think completing it counts towards the total amount of dailies done that day, but I am able to pick this quest up every day even if I did it the day before.

As a druid I found it easier using flight form.

You can still shoot the darts in it and you don't need to leave the form to loot the corpses, so it doesn't matter if the body lands in the middle of mobs

Excellent marco thanks .... sat in one spot with no mobs .... hit macro ...flydown ... autodismount as you pickup ...mount ... fly vertical ....repeat.... took less time than to write this...well about 2 mins :)

The above macro made it stupid easy to do this. A good place to sit and peg them is around 46,51. You'll see a metric ton of them flying around on their pads. Just find a good spot for a crossroads of sorts and sit in that crossroads, peg them then follow the corpse to the ground, rinse repeat. Silly easy.

Well, this quest could be a boon for my engineer. All I need to do is convince Ogrim to grind his scouts up to 225 eng and I'll sell them at least 100 cloaks a day. Yay for homemade pipedream buffs for engineers :)~

The Horde is up to something and I don't like it. After the stunt they pulled on the Broken Front, they're capable of anything, and it's up to us to stop it.

There's been a flurry of activity in the skies over the Icecrown Glacier, to the west of Aldur'thar and the Ironwall Rampart. Horde scouts and messengers streak in and out on dragonhawks, carrying reports and orders. Take this dart gun and use it to kill the Orgrim's Hammer Scouts. It'll probably work best if you're flying, too.
