Kill Hulking Abominations at the Broken Front and loot Chilled Abomination Guts. Then use the Abomination Reanimation Kit for your own Hulking Abomination pet. Make sure hunters, warlocks and Death Knights dismiss their pets before doing this or your Guts will dissapear without the pet summoned. Then go to the Mord'rethar base and send your minion to attack as many scourge as you can and explode him before he dies. Rinse and repeat.

Apparently (at least for me) you can have only one set of guts in your inventory at a time.

on the flip side.... it also seems it's 100% drop rate when you don't have one in your inventory.'

Also important - it is possible to control the dude so far away from you that when he explodes you get zero credit. That sucked...

*tip*: if you're going to gather up a few (or more than a few) mobs - click your reanimated pet to keep an eye on his health and use his flatulator (no kidding) a few times to drop the mobs' health a lot before exploding him so that more will die (you do not get credit for killing the ones left over after the explosion)

Sometimes Gheists will give exp (if you tap them first).

The first time I noticed this, I recieved full exp (1k at level 78) per gheist but when I tried to replicate it, only 100-300 per kill.

If you're a tank, you might want to put the abomination on Passive and round up the undead yourself. My protection paladin is much more durable than the abomination, and if I run ahead of it, throwing the occasional Consecration, most of the mobs will aggro me rather than it. Once I have a bunch of them on me, I position myself between the abomination and the edge of the main spawning area, and then detonate. When it explodes it kills all of the undead and also knocks me out of the thickest concentration of mobs.

To ensure you get credit for corpse explosions, do the following:

- Stay VERY close to the abomination when pulling + exploding - you should be knocked back from the explosion
- Don't pull too much - 6-10 per pull
- Use discretion when using the "flatulence" ability - make sure to wait a few seconds after using it before detonating the abomination

I found this quest to be quite aggravating, until I worked out how to ensure getting credit for the kills. I hope this helps others avoid potential headaches. :)

Before you blow up the mobs, use the aoe stun+dot and let it do a tic before exploding. And stand against a wall cuz it will push you back.

I initially thought this quest was bugged because when I first reanimated an abomination there was no pet bar. If you're currently having this issue I'd recommend a /console reloadui.
That cleared it up for me and I was about to continue the quest.

This is a very poor quest. Very much like a previous quest where you control an abomination as a pet, but this version sucks for a few reasons. One, you do not have a device to bring the abomination under your control. In this version you need to kill one and take its guts in order for you to create your own pet. For hunters, this means that you need your pet out in order to kill one and control adds. Now the stupid part: you can use the exploit explained in this forum and mount up and then summon your new pet, or you can first dismiss your pet and then summon your new pet. This is crap either way and a very poor quest sequence by Blizzard. Now the truly stupid part. When you send in your pet to blow the mobs up any mobs that survive the explosion will agro on YOU. I figure WTF and then wait and Feign Death. Doesn't do a thing. I get pummeled flat in no time.

Worst quest ever.

Just finished the quest as a lvl 80, 41/30 warlock. To my fellow warlocks, Demonic Circle makes this quest super easy! Just before you run into the camps with your abomination, place a Demonic Circle outside the camp. So when you explode your abomination, you can simply port yourself to safety. This way, you can sit right behind your abomination and get proper credit for kills, and know that you'll have a safe exit. :)

Edit: Oh, make sure you face your back towards your Circle when the abomination explodes. :(

Just to summarise some of the comments above (and add a few more):
- stay close to your abomination
- don't have a pet out
- make sure when you explode your pet, YOU are standing within the Broken Front zone (if your pet is in and you aren't you don't get credit)
- don't explode straight after a knockdown as you won't get credit
- aim for Risen Alliance Soldiers first - they'll be your limiting mob
- can only carry one chilled guts at a time

In a game full of frustrating time sinks, this has to be one of the worst. I run in in tank gear, aggro a group, use the knockdown, wait until they start attacking my abomination and then explode it...still no credit. It feels like hoping for a low % quest item to drop every time I try it. =(

I've tried to do this quest 3 times and i run into the same problem everytime. How the hell do you blow up you abominal?
Firt time: i dismissed my pet and sent in the abominal. Couldn't figure out how to make him explode.
Second time: i basically did the same thing but i mounted up on my flying mount, flew over the mobs, landed in a clearing, still couldn't make him explode.
Third time: i disabled all my mods figuring they were afecting my UI and tried again. Still nothing. No pet bar for the abominal nothing. I basically abandoned this quest. Got no help from the GM's either. They are saying everything is fine with that quest and that it isn't bug. Well.......they are wrong

I pull mobs, use the stun, then explode and no credit... I stand literally within his model and still get no credit, oh and I died several times when the mobs killed him and then me.

I use this macro (which is one of my standard hunter macros) to make this a little easier to control the pet.

/petfollow
/petattack

After dismissing my pet (hunters/locks/etc) I summon the abom and put it on passive. (the little seal face on the right)

Target a mob near the edge and press the button to send him in to attack.
Target a mob slightly further in and press the button twice (once to pull him off the original, once to send him after the new target)
Follow behind your abom a short distance.
Fart once when mobs start piling up.

This is a terrible quest and should be avoided.

One thing that hasn't been said is that when the pet explodes, you have a high chance of being knocked into a large crowd of mobs since you get knocked into a random direction every time. I did this quest to finish up the Icecrown quests achievement because I find doing those achievements a good way to raise money, but all I ended up doing was dying several times because the pet knocks you into crowds of enemies.

Avoid this quest, it will just cost you tons of gold in repairs.

HUNTERS! This sucks. So get on your flying mount after killing an abom, then before you get off your mount on the ground, use your kit. It's easiest to fly by the big skeleton gate keeper to the northern part of Broken Front. Also--don't press it with pet out! It will disappear (the kit).

It seems the most repeatable way to get credit is to send the abomination to attack a target behind a group of monsters, then once he reaches it, send him to attack a monster which is fighting you. Once the abomination next to you, and now attacking the monster that is fighting you, activate the aoe stun, step back about 10 yards, and then detonate.

Hope this helps. This is one of humanities great mysteries, and the puzzle must be solved.

To the dum dums like me: the explosion devise is the pet bar above your action bar. This is the abominable's bar, not your regular pet's.

Ok i didn't understand this quest at all here is what to do:

1) Go to the broken front
2) Kill an abomination (LOOT THE GUTS)
3) Summon it with your bag, get on your mount and put it on PASSIVE
4) Run into a bunch of mobs (around 7-10) and press Burst at the Seams
5) Redo until you are ready

Absolutely, without a doubt, the most annoying quest I've ever come across in this game. Make that double if you're a warlock. Every time you have to dismiss your pet, there's another SS gone. Oh, did I mention you can only have 1 "guts" in your inventory at a time? That means having your pet out to kill the "guts" mob (immune to fear). Loot a "guts", dismiss pet, then round up mobs and explode. Rinse and repeat. Have decided to abandon this quest. Epic fail on this one Blizz, especially for 'locks. Don't we have enough problems already?

If some of the mobs you aggroed with the abom don't die upon explosion, they come for you.

And they chase you... a very long way. I ran all the way to the other gate and they still ended up killing me (I wasn't attacking or using any abilities either...)

Dont use Flatulence. I did this perfectly around 10 times, litterally, and used flatulence, I thought you had to have them stunned to get credit, then I made a mistake, didnt use Flatulence and got credit for the last 2 kills.

This quest is much easier than people make it out to be with questionable methods. After trying a dozen different ways, and dying every single time, I've found one that actually makes me take ZERO damage.

Stand back on that hill, where an herb spawns, and where most of the abominations wander. Walk forward a little bit, so you don't aggro anything. Once you're sure you're safe, target the mob the farthest in the distance, then set your abomination to attack. In running to that one mob, he will pull about 15 others. When you first gather the group and your abomination is still very high on health, use flatulence to attract any other mobs around. Then, keep your finger on the detonate button, watching his health bar very closely. When it's low, detonate. Your abomination will kill everyone around him, and you, at a safe distance, will not be affected by the blast. Therefore, no leftover mobs will run in to attack you, and you will not be thrown into the middle of another group of mobs.

It is impossible to get them all in one try, so when he dies, just get more guts, and send him back out. Finally, if you find yourself needing only small numbers of a particular mob, find one, target it, wait for the right moment, and kaboom. Problem solved. Hope it helps.

A tip for the Rogues out there (all 3 of them)...

If you are doing the Argent Tournament dailies, you will need to kill 10 & 15 Scourge for 2 different quests.

I pop the Abomination pet, set him to Passive, and sprint into the crowd of Scourge. Once I gain a nice following, I backtrack spamming Fan of Knives. When the Abomination catches up to me with the Scourge mobs, I detonate him.

This way, you get credit for the Argent quests, even if you are screwed on the buggy explosion kills - there doesn't seem to be any reason to why you fail to get credit for some kills. I have tried every possible scenario with different results.

This was actually an easy quest. It's similiar to another quest (don't remember where). What I do is stay back from the mobs and send the abomination in to the farthest target. He aggros a bunch on the way. Once you have sent him on his way, run after it to stay within range for the credit. Depending on the abomination's health, you can select another target for it to run towards. Keep this up until it is at around 25% health. Click explode and you should have a good number of them dead. Repeat process until you have all that you need.

Be careful of aggro switch if you explode it when all the mobs that got aggro from the abomination aren't within range. If you are squishy, then I would suggest only taking on a few of the mobs at a time that way you ensure that they all die.

Anyone else having the problem of not seeing any pet bar whatsoever? I tried this quest awhile ago and there was a bar, but I was bored so I didn't finish it. Now, several weeks later, there's no bar whatsoever. I can use the default Ctrl-1,2,3,etc to make his actions, but it's really confusing at first...

Very easy with druid flight form. Put him on passive and fly over where you want him to go, pressing the move that stuns them every time you can. If you don't kill all the mobs you pulled, they won't attack you because your in flight form.

After extensive testing (read: frustration), I have determined that the game will not give you credit if you try to kill more than 15 at once. 15 = credit. 16 = no credit. This is the only major factor that affects whether or not you get credit for the quest.

For those who can't get their pet bar to come up - like me - here's how you do it:

make your pet with the chilled guts
target one of the eligible mobs at the base of the wall (inside the fenced area). Make sure you're targeting the right mobs.
standing outside the fenced area, use control-1 to get your pet to attack that target
use control-4 to use the flatulence that aggros the other mobs
if your pet has enough health, use control-1 on another mob to switch targets so he collects more followers
keep using control-4 to aggro more mobs
when his health gets low (or you get bored) use control-5 to detonate the pet
rinse, repeat. It'll take three to four pets to kill them all, but it is manageable.

I did this as a level 78 warlock with my demon dismissed.

Here's the easiest way to do it:

Go right to the corner of the area where the mobs you have to asplode live (or un-live, I suppose). Always be right on the corner.

There are between 3 and 5 Aboms that spawn right in this area, so kill one and rez it with your kit. Take out any Maleific Necs or Risen Soldiers that aggro onto you during this time.

Once you have your Abom up, and you've taken care of anything actually looking at you - send the Abom in at the first risen soldier you see inside the kill zone. Follow him in, once you see that the mobs in the way are looking at the Abom. Thrown a fart or two down to keep the Abom alive while the mobs get close to him, then blow him up once you're semi-close in order to get credit. If you have a mob or two on you, you should be able to step inside the explosion area to get rid of them.

These mobs respawn fast, so I always picked one Risen that was between two others. It's not a 1-shot deal - might have to send in several Aboms to finish the quest. But at least I didn't die - after I started doing it this way. Good Luck!

The system that worked the best for me is to kill the Abomination Giant near (not next to, but near) where the monsters are that you want to get credit for. Once you activate your Giant, put him on passive until you get to the area you want that is close to the monsters but not in the midst of them. Switch him over to defensive mode, left click on a monster in the middle of a group that you want your Giant to go to, and send your Giant in to attack them. He will aggro a mob as he walks over there and you can sit on the sidelines and just wait for his health to get low enough to explode him. It may take 5 or 6 times to get enough monsters killed, but you can pretty well watch what goes on away from the action and away from the danger. I stumbled on this technique after dieing 6 or 7 times trying to do it the other ways.

If you grab too many mobs you won't get credit for ANY of them. Grab a couple, seriously 5-10 at a time, you'll have to do this 3-4 times, oh well. If you grab more than that then as I said, you won't get credit for ANY so just grab a few at a time and you won't have any issues.

Kill Hulking Abomination at 70-60, 71-62, 69-63, get the Chilled Abomination Guts, and remember you can only have 1 in your inventory at a time. Use the Abomination Reanimation Kit to get your Reanimated Abomination, go to 70-62, send him after mobs, you can stay. Retarget him and watch his health and when he gets to about 40% explode him. You will need to do this about 3-4 times

What you guys fail to see is, Blizzard is made up of a bunch of really smart people. So smart that they came up with this brilliant idea: "Let's forsake the difficulty in the raiding aspect and make it so easy that even a 7 year old can raid and be completely epic'd out...a great idea, the first MMO to be able to do that! This seems to have picked up an undeserved rep as a problem or bugged quest. It is, in fact, very, very easy, if not actually entertaining. Here are some pointers (from a Hunter's perspective):

1) Kill a Hulking Abomination (around the vicinity of 72, 62 in Icecrown) and loot the Guts. NOTE: If you aggro any others, DON'T loot them - you can only have one set of "guts" at a time. You can go back and loot any others you've killed later.

2) Fly to a "safe", comfortable place on the perimeter of the area where the geists/ghouls/soldiers are wandering around the Broken Front. DO NOT AT ANY TIME DISMISS YOUR PET!

3) After landing at your "safe spot", DO NOT dismount.

4) Target the nearest MOB (otherwise, you're likely to aggro it while you're still involved with the following steps).

5) While still mounted, summon your Abomination. A toolbar similar to your "normal" Pet bar will pop up.

6) Immediately Attack the targeted MOB. While the Abomination is moving, gradually select targets further away and hit the Attack key each time. (Use Flatulence to prolong this part and aggro as many MOBs as you can.)

7) Once you've aggro'd a bunch of MOBs, explode your Abomination. (Don't wait too long, or you Abom will die and all the aggros will attack you!)

8) Remount, rinse, and repeat. (When you land, your "normal" pet will re-appear.)

You should be able to to complete with 3 -5 Abomination Guts.

Yes...a very buggy quest. It's immeasurably annoying when u send your abomination to attack only for it to disappear and have the mobs attack you.

Now I'm not sure what other peoples observations have been but i've found that the abominations have a tendency to disappear if you, either, send him too far away from yourself, or you send him in to attack mobs while you are still standing outside the area where these mobs are attacking (as if there is some kind of phasing glitch).

I believe you can get around this by simply flying/riding/running straight into the mobs, aggroing them, and then quickly summoning your abomination and detonating it immediately. Placement is key though, to ensure you don't get blown into another area full of mobs. Hope this helps some of you frustrated gamers out there.

I could NOT figure out why my abomination kept despawning randomly. I submitted several frustrated tickets and even talked with a very nice GM in realtime (thanks Glasslill!); they ported me to the right place, I engaged in combat-- and got myself killed from pulling too many, whoops-- but since the despawning problem didn't repeat, they sent me on my way. Then the abominations kept despawning (!), and I was ready to give up-- until I figured out why.

DO NOT GET TOO CLOSE TO THE DEATH GATE.

If you see your zone change from The Broken Front to Mord'rethar: The Death Gate, your abomination will despawn (because it's out of its usable zone) and leave you to fend off a sudden rampage of undead. Stay in The Broken Front!

Once I figured this out, quest was easy-peasy. =)

You have to kill the Hulking Abominations to get the guts(one at a time). Then use the Burst At The Seam Ability on the geists, soldiers and ghouls.

I was actually able to have three on me the first go round of attempting this quest, which I assume is all part of the bug issues with the quest. I then died and was unable to have more than one on me at a time, and that's when my Abomination would disappear two seconds after spawning him.
After getting killed by everything he managed to aggro in those two seconds, the quest items/pets eventually worked correctly and I was able to finish it properly.
As someone else said, stay in the corner near the tower, but far enough away from all the mobs, nearest the wall and just go from there. Incredibly easy as long as everything works properly.

I'm running around icecrown getting love charms, guild rep, and working on the achievement for questing in icecrown.

Once I figured this out, it was dead simple and um well funny.

I kill one of the corpulent fellows. Then I loot his liver (yum!), convert it with the kit and race round, gathering up the bad guys (Level 85 'lock). Then I hit "Flatulate", just to make myself laugh. Then I hit the one that blows the thing up. If you do a good gather up, you should be able to do this quickly.(If you are at-level, only do that if you are a tank!)

6) Immediately Attack the targeted MOB. While the Abomination is moving, gradulally select targets further away and hit the Attack key each time. (Use Flatulence to prolong this part and aggro as many MOBs as you can.)

7) Once yoiu've aggro'd a bunch of MOBs, explode your Abomination. (Don't wait too long, or you Abom will die and all the aggros will attack you!)

8) Remount, rinse, and repeat. (When you land, your "normal" pet will re-appear.)

You should be able to to complete with 3 -5 Abomination Guts.

Thassarian on the Skybreaker wants you to use the Abomination Reanimation Kit to create a Reanimated Abomination, which you are to use to kill 15 Icy Ghouls, 15 Vicious Geists, and 15 Risen Alliance Soldiers.
