The quest item for this drops from Savage Cave Beasts. An entire bog (a subzone titled Shimmering Bog) can be found by heading Southwest after reaching the room containing Jedoga Shadowseeker and a bunch of Twilight Mobs.

As of this WOTLK build there aren't enough Cave Beasts to provide enough fungi for 3 party members let alone 5. =/

Just finished this quest in a single run on live (patch 3.0.3)
On a sidenote, the item that starts the quest states you require level 74 however I was able to start it at level 73.

This quest starts from a drop. The drop comes from Savage Cave Beasts.

This quest can be shared to people lower than 74 ( The quest starting requirement on the item ), so share it even if people loot it, if they are lower than 74 ( i could start it at 73 when a party member shared the quest )

The item that starts this quest is the Ooze-covered fungus that drops from the same mobs that you need to kill to complete it.

Important tip to avoid having to run the instance twice to finish this quest like I did:

Kill one of the Savage Cave Beasts, make sure that everyone in the group loots the item and accepts the quest before you proceed to murder the rest of them. While they do drop the quest item for everyone in the group, there are only about six of them total in the instance. If more than one is killed before you accept the quest, it's entirely possible that you won't get enough drops to finish it, unless you get really lucky with them dropping multiple items.

When you enter Jedoga Shadowseeker's room, you're facing the stairs on the left, the water in the middle, and the stairs to the right. If you go directly left from the entrance, you'll see the bog.

Believe it or not heavy blood death knights can solo this quest (I did after we cleared the instance and my party dropped, not wanting to do it).

Bit risky but totally doable, I imagine we'll be nerfed eventually.

it that starts this quest Requires level 74, so even though this one is marked as a 73 you can't do it until 74.

i was able to loot the quest item when i was level 72... it can sit in my bags for 2 levels...

As of today, this appears to have been fixed. Each beast dropped 2x of the fungi for each person on the quest. We had 3 people on the quest, and each person was able to loot 2 of the quest items per mob, so we only had to kill 3 beasts. This was on normal, in a group of 73-75.

Still no gold, and no gear, but around 40k xp.

Was unable to pick this up on my 76 Mage on my first Ahn-Kahet run. A Death Knight was also unable to pick it up. I did a whopping two quests in Dragonblight prior to the run. Perhaps there's a prerequisite to get the quest?

As of today, our group got to share the drops. Each of us was able to loot every corpse. One of them dropped 2 and we had at least one mob left when we got our 6th drop.

To get to this quest:
Right after Prince Taldaram (2nd Boss), you enter a small tunnel that leads to the Fallen Temple of Ahn'kahet. Right after you are out of the tunnel, go left. You'll see another wing in the instance that leads to the Shimmering Bog where the Savage Cave Beasts are located.

I'm an 80 spriest, I was psuedo-healing for a lower level group, and I couldn't pick up the quest item, had it shared though. Got just under 26g for turning in at 80, though.

you cannot pick up this quest at 76 or higher, gg, but it CAN be shared. unusually large amount of gold given the xp it gives.

I think we have left out what I believe to be the single funniest part in the quest. When you give the mushroom/crap/thing to Kilix, his quote is, "What in creation are these?"

there was only 6 cave beasts total in the instance, and first one dropped the quest starting item. rest of them dropped one fungus, meaning everyone got only 5 fungi, when you need to have 6. -.-

When our group did this there were only 3 of these mobs in the area and noone was able to finish the quest even after we scoured the area so we just left without completing it. Blizzard really should add more of these mobs to the game.

After you accept to turn in the quest he says...

"Do you have any idea what you've been carrying around, <class>?

The cave beasts you've been harvesting have no traditional method of excreting their waste. You might want to wash your hands...

With the advent of the new LFG tool, it's become nearly impossible to get people to do this quest while leveling, at least in my experience. The allure of roughly 50k exp(from the quest and kills) apparently holds no value anymore, when the final boss and random instance rewards(though not exclusive with this) are in the opposite direction. Kind of irritating, as one of those who prefers to run each instance once for the quests while leveling.

He is in a middle of a civil war, losing their home, struggling to survive... And what do we do? We bring them poo because we thought that the nerubians might find it 'appetizing'.

Since the overhaul to WLK and BC dungeons in patch 4.3, this quest is now obsolete and no longer obtainable. Trust me, I tried in both normal and heroic modes :P

Yo fam, you got time to check through all the random loot you acquire and/or read quest text mid-dungeon? Well then this is the quest for you!... Otherwise yep, this quest (item) is cursed, literally just delete it once you've finished the dungeon imo :)
