If you're soloing this quest and there are no other Death Knights around to help, you can pull Patchwerk next to the teleporter. There are 4 respawning portal guards that can take turns tanking him while you do damage. You don't have to worry much about adds as well.

Even though you have the super damage and health buff, it's possible that Patchwerk can still get some lucky string of crits on you and kill you but the with guards, he'll constantly switch targets so you should be safe.

I don't know if they'll read it here or not, but kudos to whoever did these quests. I'm loving the lore and don't mind having to wait a few minutes through dialogue to finish the quests because I'm enjoying the story so much. So far it has been the little things in WotLK that have made it my favorite WoW experience so far.

This Q is EPIC I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooved this Q. I'm actually thinking of deleting my DK and make a new one just for the this Q and just keep abandoning it than doing it again and again and again and again till I get bored :).

The only part of this quest I hated were the abominations. Most of the time while you're fighting Patchwerk or any of the other things in there, one of them will waltz over and Scourge Hook you over to a group of them, causing them to play "Hook Volleyball" with you.

Other than that, awesome quest. Lets you feel like a Heroic-mode raid boss for a few minutes.

made my 2nd dk but unfortunately i had to solo him because there were no other dks around.....pretty easy solo cause your god....but when he hits the 5% mark...jesus christ.....he enrages doing double dmg at twice the speed....never died but i dont think your able to on this quest as the healing mechanism went into overdrive when patchwerk did. As the commenter said above VERY fun quest because you feel like your soloing on heroic mode :)

I wonder why no one have mentioned the paradox of Patchwerk being killed here, yet being a boss in Naxxramas.

its possible to die... kinda sucked, seeing as how just about everyone else who posted said it was impossible to die... you just have to really watch out for the scourage hold chains being thrown around. get in the mix of those and your health drops rapidly. and for some reason, the other DKs provided disappeared for a minute, which left me fighting him on my own. maybe i was too far away from the entrance.

either way, this quest can be very easy, or really tough.

well, finished it, loved it, and wanna doit again :P

I'm really gonna miss that buff "migth of mograine" pufff during the light of dawn, I was hitting for 3k, and crit for 7-8k here the crits where lower, but still, pretty awesome.

due to the fact that u get healed by +5000 each second I don't really see how u can die, I guess is posible if you go to the oposite side of where the guards are, tottaly alone, and agroing the whole room and patchwerk, and still even then I'd take them a loooooong time to kill you (after all +5000 heals per sec are hard to top)

If u're scared and don't wanna die, just swich to frost presence, that'll net u almost 9k armor, 5,5k HP, and reduce magic dmg by 15%, add to that the mega-heals, and the guards and is really imposible to die, even if you want to.

must amusing part is that u actually dont have to "DO" anything, u can pretty much pull the mobs to the guards, then sit down, grab some popcorn and watch the show. (of course, joinin in is a lot more fun)

gratz to blizz for this amazing experience Ive actually made 2 more DK's on diferent realms to enjoy this epic questline once more.

I didn't care much for this quest. Patchwerk takes a while to kill, even with the help of the guards. So if you're alone in there plan on hacking away for a while.

But by far the most annoying thing is those damn aboninations playing catch with you.

Everyone complains about the abominations and their hooks, but I haven't seen this solution posted: Fight Patches down in the pit with the target dummies and put your back right up against the wall. They can't lift you up out of there. You'll get moved side-to-side a bit anyway, but it's much less annoying.

Frost stance is a must. The heals end up being about 5.4k every 3 to 5 seconds. And be sure to use that blood move that heals you when it does damage. When it crits it'll bring back about 2.4k hp. Which is a must when he frenzies.

Clear out the area in front of the four guards and try an icy touch to draw him to you. Run back just behind the guards and basically just use everything you've got.

I didn't get any help from the guards at all when I did it. I had to try several times to finish him. It took about 7 minutes of continually unloading on him to finally bring him down. I think it may have had something to do with the new patch. Things were buggy all afternoon.

I encountered a bug while doing this quest. I got Disconnected while doing the quest, and when I got back in, I was lvl 57 again! And the NPC's stopped helping me. What should I do! (I'm not restarting my DK)

WHOEVER made this needs to be shot... this quest made me never want to play a god damn death knight again... why in the hell do they put a huge mob that agros to hell and pulls you all over the place like some ragdoll. Then when you get down there to god damn patchwerk those blanking angels up above come attack too when they respawn... The only reason i have to do this is because i sent something god damn important to this alt by mistake and i dont want to wait 30 days to get it back... SIGH

I'm having the same issue. I finished all my other DK quests and I finally got to this one and I've died about 4 times now, trying different approaches. From other people I've talked to who did this quest prior to the 6.0.1 patch, it was pretty simple (mainly because you could pull Patchwerk into the 4 Knights of the Ebon Hold and they'd assist). I have a ticket open to talk to a GM and see if this is happening to everyone, if this is a patch issue, or if it's just me epically failing. I'll edit once I get ahold of someone.

Edit: Still waiting for a GM to respond. I tried Ziranae's advice. I switched to Frost Presence and pulled him back past the 4 Knights and started to go nuts on him. I managed to get him down to <10,000hp (It's over 9,000!) and then he raged. Dead. Tried it again, got him <10,000hp, this time casting Mark of Blood and popping a Noth's Special Brew potion and he still managed to kill me, with no help from the 4 guards nonetheless (I think I actually saw one of the guards /golfclap).

Soooo, yeah.

RAWR im about to lose it. been working on this quest for a while now, about to go on my fifth try, and its official the guards do not help at all. i dont have any problems getting to patchwerk i just pull him towards the entrance like it has been suggested, and all goes well, until he gets enraged and then im dead. i dont know what to do about this, the portal to stormwind wont let me thru so idk if i have to finish this first or if its bugged. either way this is aggravating.

is there any way to bring other dks with u to the battle? or was it meant for u to do it alone and just have the guards help? cuz if thats the case they really screwed it up when they made that patch, cuz the guards are about as worthless as they come.

Here's some advice though.....

Even though the 4 other Deathknights are now just glorified Target Dummies, it's still a damn good idea to pull Patchwerk to behind them.
The other abominations respawn very fast and you could end up fighting Patchwerk + goons.

well, the quest seems indeed bugged, probably due to the latest patch, but it is still easily completable, it just seems no one was frost spec >.<
done it today without any help from the dummy-guards, i tried a few times before remembering i haven't trained lv 57 skills yet, and i was missing frost presence.. put my frost presence on, pulled patch a few yarde behind the dummies and killed him, he never managed to get me below 80% while normal, never below 50% while frenzied, i popped unbreakable armor to be sure, but even after the effect expired he didn't hit me dramatically, not that hard indeed..
if i can advice a rotation, it should be to keep the disease placed to increase the damage and healing from death strike, and to keep runic power for frost strike or death coil or whatever you can use to add some dps, when you'll get him around 6-7% start saving up runic power till maximum and start nuking when patch goes frenzy, but don't forget the healing rotation or he will reduce you to dust :P

If you're having issues with the NPCs not helping, Blizzard suggests contacting an in-game Game Master. Apparently they can despawn the guards and replace them with a new batch that will be more responsive. Hopefully this is fixed in 3.1.1.

Completed without NPC assistance on third try. I was lucky to only pull two adds and spamming Pestilence took care of them fairly quickly. So long as the dice are in your favor, the quest can still be solo'd.

After some tries in Blood presence, I could easily kill him in Frost presence. NPCs did not help to me neither.

Just to cover my findings from earlier today.
Playing my second DK character now (different realms, obviously), I noticed a difference between when I originally made a DK and leveled them and now. On the original DK the four guards that stood between the teleporter and the mobs aggroed onto anything you brought near them, making Patch obviously a cakewalk.
In today's play I found that he was unkillable in Blood (at least on my attempts), following this discovery I swapped into Frost and tried again. The battle was extremely slow but with the aid of some mini patchwerks I was able to get diseases onto patch to get some decent damage ticking and could quite happily tab out otherwise due to the Regen buff.

So to sum up, if you're doing this and have the same luck as me and can't find anyone to do it with you, get in frost presence before starting and enjoy the 5minute wait to kill him.

other dk's can help you if they are doing the quest aswell and the gaurds used to work until a patch and then they work like once in a million goes :( as for the sw portal u cant use it till patchwerk is dead you cant go anywhere at all till hes dead i also am on my 7th try and i cant do it cos the gaurds dont give a ****

Well i soloed this about 1 month ago with another DK now i did another1 and the quest bug thingy appered: Dk npc´s doesnt work, so i readed thath u can kill it with frost peasence so i tried it and Got him to like 2% and then he evade bugged and came back with 100%hp and killed me x2 . So now ALL my gear is red and i cant repair them unless i completet the qeust (and i cant use a weapon cuz its broken) so i think i need to wait for another #$%^ing patch to fixs it up :(

Just completed this on April 29th 2009, the "guards" did not care for the abominations or anything and I had to solo this the hard way too. So I cleared the way, aggroed Patchwerk and "tanked" him with my back against the wall in the first room so that other aboms' wouldn't pull me back or anything.

Thankfully I had specced full Frost before reaching this point with Lichborne and Unbreakable Armor that I used when Patchwerk got into Frenzy. I made sure Plague Strike was up at all times and kept throwing Blood Strike, Icy Touch and Frost Strike whenever I could. Death Strike came in handy when he "enraged". The fight took about 10 minutes, but it was rather safe as Frost spec. Needless to say you have to be in Frost Presence.

If this issue is not resolved soon you might want to completely start over and spec like a tank.

Boy, was I unprepared for this! In the anticipation and excitement of Light's Hope Chapel, I neglected to repair my equipment. All I wore was either red or broken. Since death knights have so many bag slots, I had been a pack rat. I was able to re-equip from my stocks.

When I first tried Patchwerk, I was the only death knight facing him. I died. I read here that Frost Presence would allow you to solo him. Oops. I had forgotten to keep up with my training too. I did not have Frost Presence. I thought I was going to have to abandon this death knight and start the game with a new one.

When I returned to Ebon Hold, there were two other death knights starting to attack Patchwerk. I joined in. We felled him in less than 5 minutes. We encountered 6 or 7 adds, but they were no trouble.

I am now properly equipped with repaired gear and properly trained. I hope I never again dig that deep a hole.

I would recommend keeping your old armour and using them to fight patchwerk in case you destroy all your stuff

As someone who have done the quest before, and not really care about the "epicness" of the fight, it's very simple.

Pull patchy to somewhere just behind where the guard stands when you enter. Kill any adds you have brought with you. Start autoattack Patchy. Go afk.

As you are doing very low threat, and npc's respawn quickly, you have just about time to make some coffee and a sandwitch.

On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, I started a new DK on the Durotan realm. Unlike my last post, this time I was totally prepared. When I death-gripped the mobs to the NPC DKs, all of the DKs helped me kill them. My health never dipped below 75%. Most of the time it was near 100% even after I engaged Patchwerk. To get Patchwerk near the DKs, I had to use death grip on him and run. The DKs helped with him too.

When Patchwerk was nearly dead (I could barely see the health bar), the game crashed. When I got back into the game, Patchwerk was dead and the quest was successfully completed. The NPC DKs had finished the job. Way to go DKs!

I did this by myself and it was easy all u have to do is pull patchwork to the other dks by the entrance to the battle then the 10 scourge just come and try to attack u and by the time u killed patchwork ur done

Just something I thought I would add, This part of the ebon hold is phased during this quest, so you cannot have your friend to hop on his Death Knight to come help you.

First try, I took him in the middle of the room, which was annoying because randomly the trashies would get aggro'd and try to join in. Also, it was very very very slow. Took like 10 mins. Got him to like 5% health, and was very happy... then he went into a rage, and his damage was amped up enough to kill me.

Second try, I did what others suggested, and pulled him to the guards, and he rarely tried to attack me, just the guards.... bingo. 3 mins later, and I had myself a killed patchwerk. :)

Just completed this and the April '09 issues seem to be fixed. The guards helped and (with Frost Presence) Patchwork never got me below 90% except one or two crits that were immediately healed through. Looks like the quest is again completely soloable.

It's possible to kill Patchwerk without any gear on (mine was completely broken)

Frost Presence + Kiting with Frost Chain / Death Coil over and over again. Battle took around 15 mins with no assistance.

If I stand still he out-DPSs the max heal I can get though, so kiting is advised.

Soloed this with partially broken starting green equip, because my blues were smashed to the ground after a few failures and I was getting crits like hell despite the blessing. Little advice here for those, who have the same problem. Just pulling the patchwerk and running in the circles from Ebon blade knights to the outside terrace and back, hitting patchwerk just with spells. Guards were sometimes running behind patchwerk, also hiiting him. This took me 10 minutes to kill him and he didnt hit me even once. So, if you hav broken equip, try this! Definetely worked for me!

I've done this quest 4 times. 2x on another server because I have friends there and 2times here-often because I wanted to have a DK on both sides.

This last time was the most difficult with Patchwork. I just don't remember it being that difficult. Then there is the problem of not being able to repair no matter how bad gear is. No way to switch to frost if you'd like to.
At least they should allow you to repair. I don't understand that. If this was my first try at this quest I'd be sure it was just me, but something is different. The guards didn't seem to do much at all as PW life was staying steady. It was sheer luck I believe that each time I died and went charging back PW was still in battle with the guards. However, it took 4-5 times to get them involved.
For sure this is my last DK- I'm surely done!

If you're having problems with it, ask for help, most people will. Or stick it out,lol.

Maybe the mobs are overpowered now but when I did mine sometime in the first week WotLK trial accounts were up and I could have hit auto-attack on Patch and afked...

Was a little worried about this bit after reading the comments but it really was quite simple. After being tossed around the room by the smaller abominations I pulled one of them into the guards and then went for Patchwerk the adds and the guards both followed and Patch aggroed them instead of me... They tanked him for a while before dying and then I just wittled him down for the rest... CC the adds, keep an eye on your health when he enrages and make sure you stay in the middle of the room to avoid further adds and get back there sharp if you get hooked and you'll be done in less than 5 mins. (Patch 3.3.3)

I just soloed patchwork in the center of the ring. took a good 7 min. to do it, dont stop attacking afterwards because your bound to have val'kyr battle madens fighting you also.

There's a line of "helpers" standing near where you appear. Run out, hit one of the Scourge, then run back behind the helpers. They'll pitch in and help you kill the high-level bad guys. If you do that, you are apparently un-killable (your levels come back up almost as fast as they go down).

Personally, I got my ten scourge before tagging Patchwerk, but you could do it in any order. BTW: Patchwerk takes FOREVER to kill. Just keep at it, though, and eventually, he'll go down.

When I fight against Patchwork, it is written that a guard helps it. However, in the case of me, the guard does not move at all and does not help it. （I fight right above a guard）How should I appear to get away from here?

Trying this with a level 58 Death Knight after patch 3.1.0 was out, to my surprise the helpers do not help at all. They just stand there, enjoying Patchwerk slaying me time after time. My gear is broken down to zero armor, and there is no way out of here. Will have to wait for Blizzard to free me from this bug...

The Hall of Command has been secured, but the Lich King has left us a little present in the Heart of Acherus. The stitched terror, Patchwerk, and a horde of abominations have taken over the second floor.

Use the teleporter to get to the second floor and destroy the Scourge forces that remain. Do not engage Patchwerk alone! You must fight the monstrosity with other death knights of Acherus!
