To subjugate a Lithe Stalker, attack it and once it's down to about 1/3 health there will be an emote message that says "The Lithe Stalker is weakened by the assault". Use the Sigil of the Ebon Blade (it looks like a sword in your inventory) on him then and he'll follow you around.

Once you've subjugated a Lithe Stalker, lead it to about 55.92, 69.38, there is a Lumbering Atrocity standing there which you will probably have to kill. When you get to about where the Atrocity is, the Stalker will just run off on its own and the quest will be complete.

There's a timer on the subjugation (1 minute) so if it runs out you can re-subjugate the Stalker or it'll attack you once the timer is up.

This quest seems to be bugged, I have subjugated at least 12 Lithe Stalkers and taken them to the top of the rocks. Everytime they just hop down and run toward the questgiver but i dont get the complete. :(

Wow, there are a lot of terrible quests in Icecrown, but this one takes the cake

Edit: After about 15 attempts, I finally managed to get it to work. Pull the giest onto this pedestal type rock, look for it around the "really sharp pointy" rock at 55,70. Damage and use the item here. After numerous attempts of the giest zipping around on the bridge this seems to be the only way it worked, for me anyway. Good luck lol

I agree completely. Eventually, after ten or so tries, I managed to find a way to end the tragedy that this quest is. Easy.

Here's what you do.

Press "L". Opens quest log.

Scroll down the list till you find the quest "New Recruit".

Select it / Highlight It

Find a button that says Abandon Quest.

Click it.

I had a stupidly hard time with this quest (especially as I did it no problem on another character a few days ago).
Make sure you go up to the bridge/ rampart like it says in the quest text and not down and into Malykiss as the Lithe Stalkers from there will not allow you to complete the quest. You can subdue them fine and they will even follow you back but the quest wont complete.

I went to 55.4, 71.0, entrance to the bridge, dps'ed the Lithe Stalker until I saw the emote, tamed him using the quest item, turned around and ran to about 55.5, 70.3, and the mob hopped away and I got the quest completed.

After reading up on the quest here on wowhead, it sounded alot harder then it really is.

The bridge where you can find the Lithe Stalkers are directly east of the questgiver on your minimap. At the very beginning of the bridge, directly east of the questgiver, you should be able to spot 2 of the stalkers. Beat one of them down to about 1/3 of it's HP and use the Sigil of the Ebon Blade to tame it.

When you have the Stalker with you, simply go back a few yards and off the bridge, keeping to the west side of the road (the side closest to where the questgiver is) your stalker should stop, crawl up on a rock and then jump out in the air (towards the questgiver) completing the quest for you.

I didn't even go close to the Lumbering Atrocity, that was standing further along the road. If you find yourself fighting that mob, you have walked too far.

1) You want to go at the top of the bridge to tame it 56,74
2) Drop it to 40% then use the quest item to tame it.
3) 55,71 are the coor you want to go after you tamed it. It gonna go away and then quest complete

Took me 50 mins to figure out the quest, and i blame the above comments.

Let me explain it in the most simply way.

Just east of the quest giver you will find a lone Lumbering Atrocity, that's the place where you need to bring your gheist to.

Can't believe why people always need make it so complicated.

If you happen to run out of time and the gheist breaks free, just damage it again untill it gets weakened, and you will be able to re-enslave it.
It won't evade like you would expect from a monster that's taken away from his spawn point.

There seems to be a bug with Death Knights where the mob just runs around randomly but never jumps off the cliff.

The diseases from the Death Knight spells damage the mob after it has been tamed and causes it to bug. If you're a Death Knight make sure to attack normally without applying any spells. Run on the west side of the cliffs and it will jump off.

Go up to the bridge directly behind the quest giver, do not go under the bridge. Go the the very beginning of the bridge where it meets the road then attack the nearest lithe stalker to you. When it gets down the about 30% health, a msg will appear in chat saying "Lithe Stalker appears weakened by the assault". This is when you use the quest item and it becomes your minion. The quest will not complete until you walk off the bridge onto the road at which point the stalker will run off down the road, then it will complete and you can turn it in.

The freaking gheist will not follow me no matter what happens.

I've tried without DoTs on him at all, I've tried without my pet, I've tried everything and he just wanders around instead of following after i subdue him.

EDIT: If nothing you do works on the broken gheists, you can try pulling them over to where they're supposed to leap off before you actually subdue them. Then they won't have time to just bug out and wander off.

I'm finding more and more that mods are completely and utterly destroying the ability to complete some fo these quests. I would presume Questhelper isn't helping (hah!) but it could be other various mods.

This quest in particular, the Lithe Stalker would get to a certain point and then immediately run back to his original spawn point and would no longer follow me. As soon as I disabled all of my mods, bam, worked perfectly for me.

It's extremely annoying, but it's starting to look like if you want to complete any quests that aren't just "kill x monster" you're gonna have to disable your mods to do so.

And with that, I give a big hearty "thanks Blizzard" for allowing so much compatibility with mods. /sarcasm.

I didn't have much of a problem with this one...I flew to the northern edge of the bridge that runs North and South (right around 55.5, 71) and found a Stalker there. After roughing him up a bit, I used the Sigil...and he ran right by me (to the north)...I followed for a couple yards, then got the complete. No abominations, no big deal...and didn't even have to dismiss pet.

Quest is definitely bugged in 3.1. I beat him down, used the Sigil, he jumps off the cliff and runs to 54.3, 70.9, but the quest giver is at 53.9, 71.5 so you never get credit. I even tried jumping down after him and gaining control again, but it's no use. Don't bother until the next patch.

ok guys quest is not bugged or anything. Mratzl said it right. What you have to do, is go up the bridge to the left of the quest giver and get the little guy from there. Once he's subdued walk a bit to the cliff without jumping or anything. After 2-3 seconds the little guy will run by himself and you're done.

I'm going to give you an easy way to do it to avoid my pitfalls. Walk up the road behind the questgiver to the red orb on the right. Now facing directly east fly to the bridge above where the dirt meets the cement of the bridge. You should see one of these little bastards lurking right in front of you. Stand where you are, blast him with whatever and let him come to you. When you get the que, hit him with the Sigil and from there just hop back down the way you came without killing yourself in the fall. You'll get credit before you get all the way down.

LFly up and East from the quest giver - land at 55.5 - 71 attck Stalker on the bridge when you get the message "The Lithe Stalker is weakened by the assault" use the Sigil then walk about 5 paces north off the bridge and the stalker will run off and you've finished. Takes 60 seconds

This quest was very interesting. I was trying every possible way I read here and nothing worked. So I thought - just one last attempt and then go to hell. Accidentally I pulled 2 of them, brought the first one to approx. 25%, subdued and started attacking the 2nd one. The subdued one started running, jumped down from the cliff and I got credit.

So, the advice: just pull him off the bridge, bring down a bit, subdue, if it doesn't work, run a lil' bit around and try again.

As an 85 it took me awhile. Tried almost everything short to giving up. Doesn't kelp they died in 2 shots.

Decided HEY! I'd gather a big mob since the x2 mobs didnt work so. pew pew, round up, kite, tame. PRESTO!
Had about 4. kited them half way between the lone A'bom and the bridge, tamed and the friendly Lithe Stalker who killed the remaining mobs and ran off completing my quest.

Zexoo's and the subsequent comments after are correct. Apparently you have to fight two at the same time, subdue one and just walk backwards off the bridge. He ran off and comepleted the quest...

Oh for Christs sake! What a crap quest! I read ALL of the suggestions and nothing worked. Yes, I have a college education, so any theories that I can't read are not valid. The little bas*$%^ just wouldn't run back to the quest giver once I had him subdued.

One of the posts by Ondrzel suggested aggroing 2 of the Geists and subduing one of them. Damn me, but it worked. WOW doesn't have too many crappy quests, but this one really takes the cake. What should have taken 2 minutes took over 25 minutes, and many, many attempts, including abandoning / reaccepting the quest.

C'mon Blizz. Clean it up a bit.

This is by far the most annoying quest I have ever done. Or not done, as the case may be.. I have tried every method here more than once and nothing will work. I am 8 quests off having the loremaster achieve and this is the chain I need to complete. :( Nothing is working :'(

Edit: After giving up and walking away in a foul mood, my husband had one attempt (doing exactly what I had been doing) and it worked. I don't know whether to be happy or annoyed lol.

Ok, I've tamed it on the bridge, off the bridge, pulled 2 at once, 3 at once, I've ran around and walked around the rock in the pics and video given, I've followed the video as closely as is possible, I've jumped down the rocks and I've flown back. I've abandoned it twice. This quest is just too buggy. Have no clue what the trigger is, but to say that your way is the right way when so many others still fail, tells me it's not me, it's wow. the trigger for this quest needs to be widened, or something.

My 'spot' was not near the rocks or the lumbering atrocity. It was on the opposite side of the road close to the bridge. Only took 2 hours to find it. (Took a break from my last post.)

Just take a tamed Gheist to the lone atrocity (abomination) - the one standing alone near the rocks. Kill the atrocity then fool around it a bit.

The Gheist should regain consciousness then tame it again while standing on the spot where atrocity lies dead. Did the job for me!

Ok, I am trying to achieve Loremaster Achievement (stuck on 107 of 140 quests in Icecrown), but i can not get this quest to work. I have read and re-read the posts, tried to pull multiple mobs, jumped down the rocks, walked up the road to the abomination, backed off of the bridge..... not sure what else to do. I have also abandoned and retaken the quest. No luck..... anyone have anything else i could try?

ok so i was stuck on current quest for about 3 hours, put in a ticket, looked on this site watched movie, !@#$ around, tried everything, granted i am a lvl 85 rogue attacking these guys with fist to subdue. i got bored went to the bathroom, went to the kitchen, came back realize i was at about 25% hp on my character subdued a geist and the mission completed maybe you also have to take damage or at least be hurt, no idea that is just what finally worked for me i suppose.

Indeed this method works.

I would summarize what everyone else said to: it seems that you need to be in combat with something else when you subdue your stalker and lead it to the rocks. In my case it was another stalker beating on me.

Tried this quest several times, and it didn't work at all. Until I got the luminus idea of dismissing my water elemental (yes, I'm a mage). It worked first time, the gheist run off imediately completing the quest. Think this quest bugs with pets up.

I give up! I have run this quest til I am totally fried. The little Lithe Spirit dude never leaves me and won't jump down anything no matter how many times I subdue the little guy. I have followed all posted instructions and nothing works. I am 85 Prot Pally and hate to drop this quest chain. Does anyone have, like, exact coords to where this lithe spirit is supposed to jump off the cliff?

Make sure you're in combat when you subdue your geist. This quest wouldn't work for me until I had aggro from a Lumbering Atrocity. When I did, the pet ran off just as he was supposed to, from a spot I'd brought him to at least 10 times before (location 55,71).

Thank you, XEZOO !Finding the little freaks isnt the hard part. I read all the comments to get the geist to run away, kept trying and trying, because it wasn't working, starting with systoned's comments. Fighting two at a time, as Xezoo said, did it. I attacked both, then subdued one. While finishing the second fight, the subdued little freak ran off. I thought I was going to have to live there. Thank you again, XEZOO!

This quest is bugged. Here is what I did as posted already. I aggro 2 of the ghouls tamed one. While keeping aggro on one backed up to 55,70 and it worked. Less then a min. Compared to the hour I spent the day before.

This was very annoing quest to do...
For me, it only worked done like this:
Go to the bridge, tame one buggar. I didn't mount after this.
Go to the end of the bridge, and to the very first rock on the edge. (don't fall :P)
Wait for the first tame wear off, re-tame at that spot (55.2 70.8)

OK, this is what what worked for me.

1) Dismiss pet.
2) Aggro (and DAMAGE, big must) 2 of the stalkers.
3) Walk backwards to the first rock in the second cluster from the bridge.
4) Subdue the little bugger.

If it works for you, he should jump off while you're killing the other one.

I'm lvl 85 and working hard to get my achievement... I've hit a few rough spots in outlands and I am down to only 6 quests from my Loremaster achievement and title. Now I run into this quest...

I've tried everything written here. I've pulled 4 at a time... I've even pulled 2 lithe stalkers and 2 abominations. I tamed one and killed off all the other mobs. I've walked them all around, even re-tamed one 2 - 3 times before getting fed up and killed it just for spite. I've walked off the bridge backwards, danced on my head, and jumped off the rocks to a splattering death... NOTHING works for this quest. I'm 6 quests away from Loremaster and I can't complete a stupid taming quest. I would submit a ticket, but I'm positive I will get the same response as others have mentioned.. so why bother. As of now, I give up. 20 - 30 failures at a quest will do that.

UPDATE: I abandoned the quest, then logged out and back into the game, tried it one last time. I pulled two once again. I DAMAGED both, not just body pull. I walked backwards till just off the bridge and tamed one. As soon as he was under my influence, he immediately ran to the rocks and started going down the cliff. I got credit. He even left me there to kill the second one all by myself, which I happily slaughtered him with glee as I was finally free of this stupid quest.

if this was valid at one point it isn't anymore. Been on quest 50 min and have taken him to every location of every comment including this one, he simply does not complete. I don't remember having this problem on ANY of the chars i leveled through wrath pre cata, so 4.x has obviously screwed it up. it's simply not completeable by any means :(

I did what SadisticPretzel did and it worked just like it says. Make sure you aggro 2 stalkers and do damage to both of them. When I subdued the first one, he ran to the edge and jumped down and the quest completed, then I killed the second. Also, I damaged them a few feet off the bridge.

Fighting more than one when taming seems to be the key - at least at level 85. I tried a dozen or so times with just one, ran it all over the place... couldn't get it to complete. As soon as I aggro'd 2 of them and tamed one (near the end of the bridge), it worked.

SadisticPretzel was right...first time I was doing exactly what he said and nothing happend..then I disbanded the quest and relogged my game..after that I took the quest again..did damage on2 stalkers walked backwards and on the 2nd stone subdued one and after few seconds it will run down.

As of 4.1, this quest can no longer be completed on a death knight, period. None of the comments above work any more.at least for DKs. After 2 and a half futile and pointless hours trying to complete it using all of the methods described above, I eventually gave it up as a bad job ad moved on. Save yourself the time and frustration - don't bother if you're a DK.

Fly up and left from the quest giver. co-ords i had were 55.45 it says malykriss when you get there and there is a little leaper like creature (your target) running around, I just hit him a few times, used the blade and then he ran off behind me... then the quest completed. There was no need to kill anything else and it didn't take 45 minutes. Then I flew back down to the quest giver.

3 points:
1. if you're high level and kill rather than subdue, only use your melee auto-attack, no spell or special hit; if necessary buy a weak weapon to equip when subduing lower level mobs (this also worked for me in Blade's Edge Mountains trying to gather rays for a quest giver).
2. the coords for where to take the "new recruit" are 55,70 about due E and above the quest giver; you can see him down below - look at golfsan's very nice screenshot.
3. when you get there just wait a few seconds and the new recruit will scoot off and you' ll get credit (well of course you have to turn it in but you know what I mean).

As others may have mentioned (at least for retail, not just wotlk classic), if you are max level and are on-shotting them, just use a foam sword that can bepurchased in Dalaran. I made sure I had to dagger ready to use, I used the foam sword to swipe at the lithe stalker and I was able to get one. It definitely is frustrating how over complicated they seemed to have made these quests, but it is what it is. Good luck!

First things first. I saw some Lithe Stalkers on the ramparts just east of us. They used to serve us before we broke with Arthas, and they're about as perfect a scout as you can get... with a little prodding from an eye of dominion.

Fly up, find one of the stalkers, beat it down a bit, and then use this Sigil of the Ebon Blade to command its obedience. It will recognize the sigil, guaranteed. Lead it back to the top of the rocks northeast of here and it will find its way to me.
