Using a combination of the knockback and the chargestun helps to keep Kirgaraak at bay.

You will have to beat him down to 5% health and he hits like a truck for about 1500 - 2500 damage per hit. He can be stunned and rooted as you wish so if you don't have any of those abilities I'd reccommend that you grab a friendly healer to keep you alive.

Bugged for me as well, but differently. As soon as he was within draw distance, he would appear, and then fall through the ground out of range.

Weird, harmful, but successful tactic: (This is what I did.) Fly up on your mount right above where he should be, and fall to your death, so that your corpse is in front of him. Rez, tab target him instantly, and tag him. That will pull him forward, onto "solid ground." Snare him, get out of range, and mount up on the bear. Then proceed normally. :)

The quest has a issue where Kirgaraak can be under the ground, as you might have noticed. If you want to aggro him without having durability to you gear, do as follows: Mount up on the bear and run where he is supposed to stand ( use coords to find out where that is ). After doing so, do
/target Kir to target him, and then press 1, which is auto-attack for your bear. Doing so will make him come up from the ground.

In my attempt this quest was easily soloable without any special tricks. Use the charge and stun attack like a combo while spamming the damaging special (cant remember the name). The Stun reduces his damage enough to let you get him down before he gets you. One thing, i pulled him out from the wall a bit to avoid any of the bug issues mentioned in previous posts.

quest worked fine for me. Again no special tricks needed. Just study the bear moves. I charged in, mauled him multiple times. then knocked him back. Once he was back I charged again, Rinse and Repeat till he was dead. Very easy.

If your bear dies before you completed the quest, you can just finish him off with your own character. He's only got 32k HP, most of which should be gone by the time your bear bites the dust anyway.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Doing This Quest:

Start by charge/stunning the bear (button 6). Then spam your attack ability (button 4) while keeping a close eye on the cooldown on your charge/stun ability (button 6). When that ability is available again (or shortly before), use your hit ability (button 5) immediately followed by your charge/stun ability (button 6). Then repeat this process by spamming your attack ability (button 4).

If this strategy is followed, it is simply not possible to lose this fight (bugs notwithstanding).

I have tried, tested and verified the following 2 strategies just now (02-Dec-2008 19:18 GMT) and both were successfull.

Strategy 1
I'm not sure if it is a bug, but this is how you can do it as BM hunter using Tank-Pet at lvl80.

Mount on bear and start to attack
Knock him back using smash
Dismount by clicking the dismount icon
Send in Pet, cast MD on pet followed by mend and start bringing him down
At about 15% health, let pet fight and you re-summon your bear mount provided for this quest
Finish him off with full health on mount

Do NOT attack him before you mount because once you are mounting any damage he does will go to you and NOT the mount, thus you die !
You have to start the fight on the mount and then when you remount damage will keep going to the bear.

Strategy 2
If you are not 80 but lower and can't solo him without bear and can't finish him with the bear, do the following.

Mount and attack
When you only got about 30% health left, knock him back using your smash skill
Immidiatly dismount and remount the bear
Finish him off with full health on mount

You should be remounted just when he gets back to you.

Do NOT bother stunning him and trying to dismount/remount because as soon as you dismount the stun is gone and he attacks you hitting you about 3 times before you are back on the bear.

The way described in strategy 2 gives you a bigger distance, hence more time to dismount/remount.

Additional Notes
As the Bear is considered a Vehicle, the following macro will dismount you.
/script VehicleExit()
Edit: Please note that it is very important you spell it as seen above as script calls are case sensitive!

To quickly re-mount simply drag your Mount on to the action bar.

If the quest is bugged for you like it was for me, and you cant see a giant Yeti standing at around
then go to those coords then type /tar Kirgaraak and it should target him for you...then mount up using yur Matriarch reins and charge or attack. Did it this way and saved a rep bill and after a second of fighting he turned visible for me. Hope this helps.

Quite easy
as said above

stand where he is suppose to spawn and type
/tar kir
then click 1 (auto attack) to bring him down to combat

then start with
*Smash then move back a little then Charge
*Then spam maul and you should be able to use Smash once before you charge and move back and smash again

so simple rotation would be like
5-6-4-4-4-5-4-4-4-5-6 - repeat

Don't bother using the bear if you're geared & capable, you will down Kirgaraak alot quicker without the bear. He only has 37.8k HP after all.

He didn't appear to me, I read the above comments and thank you guys. I realized that he had somehow zone glitched through the ground so as a Destro lock I used Shadowfury where he stood and then as soon as he appeared used death coil to gain enough time to mount up then charged and got him down

Hey, just defeater Kigaraak, and as said above you are better off defeating him on your own without using the Warbear. I, 78 Enchance Shaman, got him with my Fire Elemental Guardian and Feral Spirits - NO PROBLEM at all !

While killing him, I found it was good to do this...

Start off attacking him from behind. Do one maul to start off nicely, then use 'Smash' to knock him away. When he's far away, use charge so he's stunned and maul him some more. While mauling him to death, run around him so you're the other side of him, and knock him back with Smash again, close to where he was in the first place. Then charge him again, maul to death again, and repeat this. If you Smash him to far in one direction he runs back and resets. This happened to me TWICE.

You can easily defeat Kirgaraak usnig the bear mount regardless of your gear with the following rotation:

1. Charge
2. Spam Maul for 11 seconds (so until just before Charge comes off cooldown)
3. Knock-back
4. Repeat at Step 1

Even if your swing timing isnt tight, you'll still down him with plenty of health to spare. You dont have to run in front or behind because typically only 2 knockbacks are needed.

No doubt, this is a tough quest. You can see it done if you go to you tube
and search "the warm up, quest". Add quest at the end. Not sure who did it, but it helps to see it (helps me) before I do it.

I am leveling my hunter and druid at the same time, so I had to do it 2x.
I died the first time. I did learn what not to do. Don't try to get much into strategy.
Second time I didn't worry about cool downs, there isn't much wiggle room
in this fight.
The next 2 times I played it a lot like my hubby did when he'd play sega games with the kids when they were little. MASH buttons.
The buttons are 1, 4,5,6 I mashed 4 constantly (maul) and the others when I could. I think charge was 6.
I was not paying a lot of attention to cool downs.
If you look at the video of this quest, you can see it is really close.

I found another that was under 'Kirgaraak', not the quest name. His was close too.

However, it can be done. I did both the next time with little life to spare, but both
fights were about equal.
Don't feel discouraged if you die ( and die with the mob sill having 80% health
as I did)
I was sure it was all but impossible. Level does not seem to matter. I did this with a 79 hunter and then with a 77 druid. I think I did better with the druid because it was the third time and I just got better at it.

I had no glitches, he didn't despawn. Nothing unusual.

EDIT: The next quest is into the pit. I wanted to see if there was a video on this
one, and there is. By the same person who did this one.

He's sometimes dropping through the ground.
You check if he has done so by looking at the chain on the pole next to where he's supposed to be. If it's "hanging" straight down, it has most likely happened.

What I did was to unmount from the bear, cast Blizzard where he was supposed to be, that made him come up again. Then I frost novaed him and mounted up again.

this quest was horrid for me, i tried to kill him once, and then after he got to 5% he went to full, and someone else jumped on him, it didnt click that i had killed him, and i had quest helper, so i jumped off my bear thinking it was "instance" glitch for qh, that wasnt it, but then when i clicked my bear it said "You must be in Burnhildarr Village" so i dropped and picked it up, killed Kig TWO MORE TIMES, and still it did not count, turned off Quest Helper, killed Kig and boom, it counted, i dont know if it was because of Quest Helper, or because the relog, but whichever it is, hope this helped

For Shadow Priests

I found this quest very difficult as a lvl 78 Shadow Priest, I almost asked for help but found this technique and did it easily.

Start of by using your Shadowfiend to attack and make sure you put a power word: shield on it.

While Kirgaraak is busy with your pet cast Vampiric Touch, Devouring Plague, Shadow word: Pain, Vampiric Embrace then quickly mount on your Reins of the Icemaw Matriarch.

As soon as you are on your bear use the instructions below.

"charge/stunning the bear (button 6). Then spam your attack ability (button 4) while keeping a close eye on the cooldown on your charge/stun ability (button 6). When that ability is available again (or shortly before), use your hit ability (button 5) immediately followed by your charge/stun ability (button 6). Then repeat this process by spamming your attack ability (button 4)."

Had a different glitch occur. I mounted up when I left the shack where I got the quest, and went to fight the Yeti. No spawn issues, no ground issues. He reset, as intended, at 5% health but I didn't get quest credit. Mounted up again, took him down to 5%, and got the credit the second time around. Very peculiar. Don't really want to try and re-create the situation (maybe NEED to mount up next to him?) because it's a tedious little fight.

Make sure your auto-attack is turned on!

The first few times I did this I was just using specials, If you have auto-attack turned on, you should be able to do that and just spam maul also, maybe with one swipe/charge combo in the middle.

Hmm.....I didn't realize I was supposed to mount up for this one...managed to kill him anyways, as a Ret Paly @ 78 (and I got credit, too). I tried it again on the mount afterwards. Needless to say, it was much easier that way :)

First time I did this, it was bugged & I didn't get credit, even though I got it done.

So being pretty OP 80 DK with titansteel destroyer, 467 Defense & 3K power, walked up & beat the crap out of him. That works too.

They seem to have made this harder in a recent patch. On my previous characters I got him down with my bear still alive and kicking, without a problem. This time however I gave it three tries and each time my bear died when Kirgaraak was at 50-ish percent. I ended up doing the last 15k hp the "normal" way, but it might be tough on some classes.

As a level 80 geared feral druid, it was easier to just skip the whole "mount on the bear" thing and just switched to cat form and dpsed him down in about 10 seconds. =p. Any relatively geared level 80 will have no problem just dpsing him without the bear. He only hits for about 1.5k and I dodged everyone of his attacks.

I. Bear Combat

Open with a charge
Maul until charge is ready
Smash to knock him back
Charge again
Maul until charge is ready

Rinse and repeat. If you happen to kill your bear, then run to the drakes nearby. He should then drop aggro. Rogues can cast Vanish, and Hunters cast Feign Death.

II. Glitches?

I saw a glitch where if you Smashed and Charge 3 times in a row without moving back, he'd get knocked onto the hill, run over the wooden thing, come back to his spawn point and he would heal, then evade your attacks until you dismounted and remounted.

There is a glitch where he goes underground. I know this was mentioned earlier, but if you just skipped everything else, I'm assuming that an instant spell will work, even though I haven't tried it myself. After using the spell, just mount up.

III. Funny Comments on Quest Text

"A good bear won't do you much good without the skill to ride it" along with "He's the largest yeti we've ever been able to capture", as if she is sending you to your death...

This is confirmed with her saying "I was hoping that Kirgaarak would snap your neck so I could keep your bear. Just joking, sister. Well, half-joking. That's a real nice bear you've got" upon turning in the quest.

Found it impossible to kill him with just the bear, but at level 80 it's simple to kill him anyway. Just stand there using maul till your bear dies, and then burn him down ;-)

Well what I did was maul and wait for push back and charge cooldown and when he killed my bear I just summoned a new one and continued like it never happened

A couple more things to keep in mind:

1. Your Smash (#5) cooldown is much shorter than your Charge (#6). So keep an eye on the Charge CD, and ignore the Smash CD. Only use Smash when Charge is a hair away from coming back up.

2. Instead of trying such fancy footwork, just back up a bit while Mauling and waiting for Charge to come back up. You may miss a few hits by getting out of range, but so will he.

Lastly, if you still have trouble, get a dps friend to help out. A friend of mine couldn't hack it, so I brought my Ele Shaman over and blasted the everloving hell out of the mob while he went after it with the bear. His bear kept aggro the whole time (which admittedly was only a few seconds, but still, the bear's threat is solid).

What worked for me:

Currently bugged on live as of patch 4.0.1. He falls through the ground as soon as he phases.

You can, however, beat him. If you stand just behind where he spawns and activate your autoattack (by default, pressing 1 or the first button on your vehicle bar) you can auto attack him to death without retaliation.

For anyone trying it in 4.0, it does not auto-attack like your regular attack. You do have to activate it with #1, failure to do this will result in multiple butt-kickings until you figure it out. Then you do #5, then #6, then #4 until #6 is off CD.

Can be completed while NOT mounted on your bear, for all you post-Wrath people coming back to do the Storm Peaks very, very late. As long as you can knock him down to low HP, you should get credit.

I had issues with beating him via the bear so I just dismounted and caused him a world of hurt. I got credit for the quest even though I was not using the Bear.

Not sure if this happened for anyone else, but it worked for me: my bear died during the fight but I was still able to fight Kirgaraak using my spells & abilities. After killing him I still got credit for the quest. So if your bear dies, just continue to fight and you should still get credit.

Spam "4" (Maul) until it was defeated.

No strategy necessary, no knock-backs or charge necessary. Just "1" (attack) and then hit "4" (maul) until your finger is tired and/or he is dead. He will "die" far before you even come close.

Auto-Attack seems to be bugged atm. But why bother using the bear anyway. At level 77/78 any class should be able to easily do this using class abilities.

I highly suggest just walking over to him and killing him. Trying to maneuver the bear is a time waster and the beast is easy as a 79.

I don't see any comments pertaining to the glitch I encountered. My bear was killed while fighting KIl. I continued to fight with my warlock pet and killed Kil. (Quest completed.) I used the reins again and ran to turn in the quest while on the bear and the quest giver was now hostile (red) and would not accept the quest turn in. I reloaded... no luck. I exited the game, deleted the cache... no luck. Any ideas?

When I went back to the game after posting this, I left the area to turn in a quest at K3. When I went back to Bruunhildar Village the quest giver was friendly again. I reacquired the quest, killed Kil without the bear and was able to turn in the quest.

Confirmed - if your bear dies, you become hostile. The way to restore this is to leave the area (letting your disguise lapse) then re-enter the area (re-enabling the disguise). Then you'll be friendly with the locals again.

For those who are a little late on picking up this quest, it is much, much easier to simply kill him without the mount. After a couple tries, I dismounted the quest mount and killed him in a couple seconds.

Only use knockback when charge is up, other then that spam the 4 button which is to attack, you'll probably finish with very little health more then him but you only have to get him down to 4% of his hp.

Okay, so this one wasn't as simple as it seemed.

When you use the knockback and then charge (in the same direction) after about the third time Kirgaraak reaches the end of his line. When he does that he then runs back to his starting place and regains full health and you will not have enough health left to fight him again unless you dismout and the remount.

I found that it was best to use the first knockback towards the wall and then as your spamming the 4 button adjust yourself a little so that the next knockback goes a little to the side.

Basically you do not want him at the end of his line so just readjust yourself a little before each knockback.

When he gets to about 4% he will run up onto the roof and then return to position and you will have completed the quest.

If you are a caster, wouldn't even use the bear for this- don't have to. I just took him down like I would any other non-elite mob with my felguard. Tried the bear 4-5 times, bear died, I aggro, I die. Sending in FG and ignoring bear was a snap.

The quest seems to be a little bugged in Wrath Classic.
Older posts mention pushing 1 to attack - but no button 1 is available.
I attempted to start auto-attack via a /startattack command, and that worked; with my bear noticeably changing stance; and a much easier fight that attempt.
Further experimentation confirmed that right-click also does the trick (something I don't usually do as a caster).
(I'm unsure why auto-attack doesn't seem to engage as usual.)

The important thing however, is that it appears you need to be auto-attacking in order for your bear to defeat him quickly enough.
Abilities 4,5, and 6 aren't quite enough by themselves (unless you get lucky).

So...
1. Select Kirgaraak from a short distance away (ready to charge).
2. Enter a /startattack command (or right-click) to enable auto-attack (you should notice your bear change stance).
3. Charge, stunning him for 3 seconds. (Press 6)
4. Immediately start spamming Maul. (Press 4)
5. After CD for Charge is almost up, Smash to knock him back. (Press 5)
6. Repeat from step 3 until the fight ends with Kirgaraak at ~5% health.
