At first I was looking for a lootable Harpoon gun to use, but it turns out the guns are turrets that you enter and use like any other vehicle quest. They are located to the southeast of the building where the Harpoon crate was.

horrible quests

at least for me, dunno what caused the bugs i had:

the skill says 2 sec cooldown. (on the cannon) and it didnt have one. not even global cooldown. 99.99999% of the shots i i did, just faded out into thin air and didnt hit the sacks...

very weird.

IT WAS doable though. just took some time. tried all the cannons, and shot at all sacks, eventually i went back, to the 2 cannons at 27,1 60,0. those seemed to work most often for me

I mashed the firing arrow, and about 40 arrows in a continuous stream shot out until for whatever reason the cooldown was activated by one of the arrows. This arrow would go all the way and light the hay. So just button mash until it works.

i skipped it my frist time because it kept fading, but i just now picked up the quest and completed it with no complications, so i suppose just drop the quest and pick it back up

I was having the same problem with my harpoons vanishing before they hit the target. However they would hit 100% of the time as long as I was in combat when I was firing them.

The harpoon guns are scattered about Valkyrion, however the best spot is the center of Valkyrion. If you look closely on the map, you can see a graphic of a bonfire in the center of the city. You need to keep an eye out because the haystacks don't sparkle like normal quest items. They typically spawn right next to houses or in the carts. Keep an eye out, and you'll see them. The little aiming beam has a margin of error, so don't worry about hitting the stack on point.

You can actually attack the opposite faction on PvP realms with the harpoon gun.

For me the best way to set a haystack ablaze was to carefully aim the gun and then spam the fire button very fast until I got an error message about the ability not being ready. The last harpoon that triggered the cooldown would travel all the way to the haystack, and if the aim was correct it would set it on fire.

I have seen other players shoot without harpoons fading out so it might be an addon issue.

Best Way to do this is if the arrows are glitching log onto another char for about 2 minutes than go back and try it again.

I didn't realize it at first, but I had trouble aiming the turrets just right. You have to click with both mouse buttons in order to aim the turrets up or down.

This must work differently for different people because this worked just fine for me without being in combat or using both mouse buttons. I did notice that if someone else has just set the haystack on fire, your shots will disappear before they hit the stack. Make sure no one else is firing at the one you're going after and you should be fine. They have a really good respawn time also, so just wait in your turret until the ones you can shoot successfully respawn.

If you hop off the harpoon gun before the arrow hits the hay, you do not get credit for the shot. Keep this in mind before you hop on your mount and make an escape.

Also note you can't click on the haystacks or mouse over them, the just look like something which is party of the scenery.

You can not attack mobs with these, so if your being attacked dont try and use the harpoon gun.

I had problems with harpoons not starting the stacks on fire also, but its true if you just agro a near-by mob then hop on the gun it works no problem. I didnt restart quest or log off either. Depending on how squishy you are you should be able to get all the hay stacks in 2-4 rounds, beats dropping quest and hoping it works the 2nd time around.

Addons, guys. Most addons seem to be programmed exactly so that they will bug the "vehicle" quests (no, actually, Blizzard has done a really lame job on them, and it's far from just the addons problem). Logout -> AddOns -> Disable All Addons -> Log back in -> Quest works.

for me, all i did was hit the 1 key over and over again and after like 20 shot a good one came and got a cooldown. so it seems like it is totally random on when it will be an actuall good shot

This quest is not friendly on those with poor graphics, at first I couldn't see any of the hay stacks, realised I had to turn up my distance before I could pick out any of the hay stacks. Once I did that this quest took less than 3 minutes, otherwise it was a pain in the butt :P

The fact that this isn't a daily breaks my heart. I kept it in my questlog for over a week to just shot up the town whenever I felt lie doing something different.

So I'm still having the trouble with the aiming reticle. I've disabled all addons, I've tried logging an alt for 2 minutes, I even tried logging off for two minutes, and that was HARD!:) haha Had no problems doing this quest on my Warlock but now on my Paladin, the harpoon guns just simply won't aim, they point straight up in the air no matter what I do. If I'm able to move the guns an INCH, they pop immediately back to straight up in the air. I can't fire a single haystack! Any suggestions? I've opened a ticket, still no reply.

press key 'insert' and 'delete' will work
excellent for those have problem using that damn harpoon gun(couldn't aim, for example)

For those of you who have problems with aiming - go to your Key Bindings menu, scroll down to the near end of the list and find "Vehicle Controls".

Bind "Aim Up" and "Aim Down" on any keys you like and use those to aim up and down :) Aiming left and right is easy using mouse with right button pressed.

I was having problems with the harpoon guns in Valkyrion for the quest Valkyrion is burning. For some reason they would not allow me to aim them anywhere. I could move them side to side but not up and down.

I was able to get the guns to aim by using the pitchup/pitchdown buttons, this seemed ot unlock the gun so that I could move it around with my mouse.

I don't recommend aggroing the monsters, especially if you have certain addons installed - it lead to all of my controls disappearing and I had to log out and back in to reset.

I could do this quest as an alliance player although wowhead classifies it as a horde quest.

This quest has the same "FEATURE" as a daily quest in Icecrown, Shadow Vault, Vile Like Fire! : You can shoot at the same target. As soon as it has stopped burning, it counts again as a valid target. Sometimes the simplicity of the programmed AI makes you shame, and you may even want to play your game completely according to the obviously occationally loosely written Requirement Specification of the programming code, pretending that there are no bugs in the so beatifully written Azeroth. However the reason could have been the need to provide targets for other players too who are doing the same quest - without leaving people wait for a painfull spawning period? Of course the points counting logic here would require a lookup table, and a datatype which keep record of the burned individual targets also when the player changes place from one harpoon cannon to another - to be adequate. Ok! For how long should the count be in force? =8-\

By the way it's a pity that the harpoon cannon doesn't bring much damage for the NPC, in case you happen to aggro them by shooting at them. You just have to defend yourself with your own weapons. I tried this and a single Valkyrian aspirant called a whole bunch of them and half a dozen of Nascant Valkyrians too. Army of dead cleaned the stage, but was even though a little unsporty..? Funny that the harpoon can aggro the mobs so totally, but othervise you can in peace kill one after another without disturbing the rest of them.

Talking about "unsporty" solutions, in case the keyboard settings for insert and delete bring actual harm mentioned above, a pc-gamepad with free joytokey.exe - driver solve the matter too. A joystick can be temporarily mapped for this quest. However the mouse guidance was ok in my case.

Aim at hay stacks near those buildings... Just did it like that without any logouts.

Today while I was doing this quest, I had some alliance competition for the hay stacks. I kept getting them before she was able to, and I guess that annoyed her because she turned the canon on me and shot. I didn't take any direct damage from the canon, but the ground burst into flames and I took fire damage from that. I don't think she realized that would happen because she went back to shooting the hay.

I turned my canon on her and lit her up and from the conflagration she fell too below half hp. This is on a PVE server to boot and neither of us was flagged. A one time glitch or a known exploit?

For anyone without a co-ords add on:

Exit the building you got the quest from. Go straight down the ramp to the wide dirt path/road, away from the blight pool. Move around the blue fire in the middle, taking the left side. On the ridge, you'll see two harpoon guns. They're in a patch of brown ground. In that pair, one faces the building you've just left, the other faces 90 degrees around.

There's another set of two directly East from those, a bit further back from the road.

Also, for those of you that don't know the targeting trick: hold down both mouse buttons to target, press 1 to fire. It's a heck of a lot easier that way.

There are 4 quests that you should plan to complete on this run. They are Off With Their Black Wings, Yulda's Folly, and Aberrations, and Valkyrion Must Burn (this one), which you will pick up after killing Yulda.

All of these are at 22.59. If you don't have coords, look on your Storm Peaks map. It is in the far west part of the zone, just above the "O" in "Valkyrion".

For Aberrations, you need to kill the Valkyrion Aspirants . The drop rate isn't very good, but they will drop the Frost Oil that you need to freeze the eggs. You will need 5 or 6 of the oils. Once you have them, head for the blighted pool. You will see eggs scattered around in bunches. The frost oil is an aoe thing, so you can freeze several eggs at once. Freeze 'em until you're done.

For Off With Their Black Wings, you need to kill the Nascent Val'kyr. They're all over the place. Can't find 'em? Look up. They're the glowing, flying mobs. If you really can't find them, stay put and they'll find you. (Or you're just in the wrong place).

For Yulda's Folly, go to the house at 22,60 (just off the southwest corner of the blighted pool). Yulda is in there. You will also pick up another quest, Valkyrion Must Burn. That comes from a large chest that is next to Yulda, so don't forget to pick it up after you've killed her.

For Valkyrion Must Burn, head for 27,60. To the east of the blighted pool there is a sort of traffic circle with a blue flame. Just north of that are two harpoon guns that you can mount. Get on one and aim for the haystacks near the buildings. There may be only 2 or 3 within range, so you may need to wait for respawns after you burn them, but they respawn pretty fast. The only thing to watch out for on this one is the Nascent Val'kyrs may attack you while you're on the harpoon gun, so be ready to jump off and kill one or two of them.

i had problems with that quest... the arrows dint but the stacks into fire.. then i turned all the ADD ONS off and then it was no problem at all.
