Ok, I had real issues with this quest. If it's bugged or if Blizzard ment to make it this way is unknown.

You need to go up in Magmoth, which is straight north of Fizzcrack Airstrip, and find the magmoth crushers or the mates of magmothregar. You use the blaster on them, and if the debuff doesn't come up on the target, continue blasting them until it does, or else you won't recieve the quest objective...

The thing backfires a lot, but no matter what happens you always get credit as long as you kill the magmoth.

Is anyone else having an issue with accepting this quest? This quest is not showing up as available for me to accept. It doesnt show as having any prereq and I am level 72, so I should be high enough, and I am alliance. Does anyone have any ideas?

wtf, i get the debuff and so duz teh mob but i still dont get credit for killing them? is it really that bugged?

I do not see the quest as bugged: rather it seems that in order to get the credit you need to kill the mob after shrinking it not before and certainly not after the shrinking has disappeared.

Hunting for those big fellows in the middle of the snobolds (and their nasty totems) can be a pain for some people, but nevertheless it's a fun quest, made worthwhile by the Yellow debuff.

Edit: Might be worth mentioning the Blaster has a huge range, must be closer to 40 if not 50 yards. Just be careful, they pull the snobolds with them if they're left in their way.

Has anyone experienced a glitch where you as well as the crusher turn into Crafty when you use the blaster?

If you want to make sure to get the debuff on the Magmoth creatures, use the item from a large distance and don't move until the debuff displays on the mob. I have had great difficulties putting the debuff on these mobs on short (melee) range. Keep a distance!

For all of you talking about the fact that the quest item is not working, or being "Bugged"....

First of all, on the qst item it says it is a Proto-Type, therefor having a chance to not "work" every time, so just try a few times. You'll get the De-Buff up.

And as the others added, yes, it is best to stand still and apply the De-Buff before attacking.

And you need to do "Lust a Few More Things..." to aquire this quest. I know it isn't listed as a pre-requisit, but you do.

Crafty's blaster can produce a number of amusing debuffs on both you and the Magnataur targeted:

You will not necessarily receive the same debuff as the Magnataur, and all of them are entirely cosmetic.

Quest sucks on many levels, particularly for casters.

First you gotta get the device to work. Second the mobs you're going against have a knockback. Third there are a bunch of Kobold around to easily aggro, especially with said knockback, and finally the quest rewards aren't very good and don't sell for much gold either.

I didn't even go in the cave. I got my five in just a few minutes in the hills just north of the airstrip. Didn't have to fight any other mobs, either.

In the past, with my other toons, I always went into the cave and often had problems. While mining with my miner toon, I noticed these hills had a number of the target mobs so I decided to try it out. Much easier and faster in the hills.

Thought this quest was pretty amusing mainly because I'm a pally and I got the turn into Crafty debuff. A gnome paladin is something to be seen...

If you're a druid you can actually shift into flight form when you get the crafty "buff" and swim through the air for a short period of time.

I had some fun with it.

To summarize the comments (in order of importance):
This is a proto-type - it doesn't always work.
Target and use from a distance.
Wait until the blaster has completely finished - channeling bar gone, spell lights gone, before attacking.
It will give you and/or the targeted magmath one of several purely cosmetic buffs.

57,13 puts you in the thick of it - the magnataurs are wandering about - clear the area and let them come to you.From what I can tell, you have to damage the mob, use the gun and finish him/her off while still under its effects. For some reason this does not always happen but for the most part, the above is the way to do this quest.

Use the gun and let effects dissapate before finishing mob - no score
Use the gun and let effects start too late before finishing mob - no score
Use the gun and let effects happen as mob dies - result

Keep firing the gun till you get the creature to change in some way. Otherwise you don't get credit for using the gun.

I'm sure somebody has mentioned this before, but make sure you're not standing anywhere near a cliff... Again, this may have been mentioned before but you probably won't be able to get five in a row. It doesn't mean the mechanics are broken; just working as intended...

Test out Crafty's Ultra-Advanced Proto-Typical Shortening Blaster on 5 Magmoth Crushers or Mates of Magmothregar. After you have done so, return to her at Fizzcrank Airstrip.

That'll do her, chief! So, here's what I want ya to do....

Take my blaster and head north to Magmoth. If we're gonna have a chance at all against those monsters, we need to cut them down to size... so to speak.

In order to gauge its effectiveness, I need you to slay the magnataur while the blaster's effects are still on it. Any of the crushers or mates will do, but don't bother with the offspring... they're too small to worry about.
