This is fair simple, the Quest NPC you received the quest from is standing in front of a building with the cauldron on one side and the alchemy lab-looking thing on the other. Fill the vial in your inventory, take two steps to the other side and click on the filled vial. Repeat this until you receive the item "Balanced Concoction" and you've completed the quest.

Simple quest, fill the empty vial at the right cauldron, run over to the left table and right click on the vial. Sometimes you'll fail and it'll spawn a mob. You will complete the quest once you get 'Balanced Concoction'.

Can happen fairly quickly as opposed to the 20+ times the above posters are stating.
I was lucky and got mine after 3 attempts.

The important thing, is that it's fairly simple and if you just keep at it, you'll complete it no problem.

Might be faster for alchemists; I have 375 alchemy and got a Balanced Concoction after only 3 attempts. DH tried at least 20 times before he got it, with no alchemy.

It's probably a reference to the conception that chemistry is about blowing things up or creating odd liquids. I had a good laugh while I did this quest, even if I failed 13 times.

I either got nothing at all, just an empty flask, or I spawned an add which died with one hit, or I flew back for 3k and possible falling dmg. A hint is to face the building and strafe left and right. With any luck, you'll land on the machine in the middle and you can continue creating the right mixture soon.

Took me 14 tries. I came here at 10 thinking I was doing something wrong. Re-read the quest... nope, I was doing it right and WowHead confirmed that it just may take some time. Thanks for the comments -- made me keep at it! :)

Very easy quest otherwise. Just be sure to check your health after those explosions... just in case ;)

Pretty amazingly stupid quest. If it wasn't part of a decent chain I would absolutely recommend skipping this bit of Blizzard retardation. 30+ tries, and I am so tired of bandaging that I risked it and ended up dying to a blast. Extremely stupid waste of time.

After dying I ran back and very next try worked. This might be coincidence, or maybe a way to bypass the stupidity.

Got 5 explosions which did about 3k or so damage each and one Animated Plague Spawn mob which attacked me and I killed it with one hit, before I got it right after 7 tries.

Well the good news is you don't have to kill a thousand and 1 mobs to get the concoction or run too far and you can retry over and over again. The bad news is you can still die from this quest.

Actually, I got the slime 14 times - which is fairly near a thousand mobs ><'
.. got blown away 9 times and it failed without a repercussion 26 times.
I was getting into a bad mood as it finally got complete, I then tried to make a new mixture, from obvious reasons (...)
Hopefully this balanced out the fail-rate for the next runner up. :\

Worst Quest Ever.

It's repetitive, it's boring, and because it sits in the middle of a chain you have no choice but to do it (unless you want to abandon the chain).

This made me want to cancel my subscription. Or at least contact a GM online to express my bitter resentment of being forced to endure this stupidity.

Priests should keep Power Word: Shield up. If the mixture explodes, most of the damage will be absorbed.

Wow.. I will NEVER do this quest again. It took me 57 tries. (I kept going when I got to 30 just to see how many times it would make me do this....) I think I worked on this one quest for 2 hours. Mine either glitched and just wouldn't go (which I doubt because eventually it worked....) or I just have the worst luck ever, and I think I'll take a gander at the last one.

I don't know , but it may have a link to Alchemy. At the time , I was lvl 73 Blood Elf Mage with 420 Alchemy.
I got it in the first try.

At LEAST 50 tries till it worked. This quest is proof that the devs don't play the game. That or they play a better version where everything's a 1/1 drop rate/success rate. ¬¬

I was just one shot by an explosion that crit for 7.3k damage... May want to keep yourself topped off.

Edit:: Also, took me 17 times, 8 explosions, and 2 mobs. But it did finally work.

I had never ever had ANY problem with this quest on any of my characters. I had done this quest 7 times before doing it on my shaman. Oddly enough I had never had the "explosion" that knocks you back either. And I always completed it within 5 tries.

Today I did around 40 tries and about 20 of them were explosions. Random? Random.

Got the Balanced Concoction after the ninth attempt. In case it's been overlooked, if you stand on the east side of the table, against the keep's wall, you'll mitigate the knockback. You'll still take damage (about 50% each time) but at least you can save yourself the extra running around.

This is one of the suckiest quests in warcraft. I've done well over 50 tries, with having to abandon and repick up the quest each time because its not a refillable flask! That is the dumbest part of it, although the many many tries is up there. I went away for months and now am back and the over 50x is just for today, but its part of a chain and I need the quests behind it to get the zone for Loremaster! C'mon blizz be REASONABLE! As though we all have 12 hours of time to just abandon and pick up one stupid quest (and stupid isnt' a word I generally condone using!)

Completed quest in 5 tries.

Both the cauldron and the mixing table are on either side of the quest giver.

The failed attempts give you a mix of results,mine was a plagued slime that attacked me and twice the mixture blew and and sent me flying.

Very easy and leads to follow up quest "Field Test".
