To do this quest you need to be in Singing Ridge, in the vicinity of 60, 76. Clear a large area (5-6 mobs worth) and then start dropping scanners. Every time you drop a scanner there's a chance a Wyrm from Beyond (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/npc=21796) will spawn. Not too hard to solo, but keep an eye out.

You have to work fairly quickly, the scanners are on a short timeout. The scanners have some restrictions on where they can be placed, but it's not simply distance; I've put two within five yeards of each other Look to your buffs for plus-sign shaped buffs showing you the scanners in range, and a minus-sign shaped debuff if you can't drop a scanner where you're staying.

As a mage, this is quite literally the worst quest in the game. The dragons all have incredibly high resists, they spawn like crazy, do a mana burn, etc. If this place isn't being camped by several people, don't waste your time.

Also, be careful of where you place the nodes. if you are too close to the eggs or crystals in the area you can get trapped inside of them and you will have to wait for them to despawn.

This quest is really easy as a mage. First place a scanner, and run away to any direction until u can place another scanner, instead of place down another scanner, turn around facing the 1st scanner u placed and hit blink, and hit the scanner immediately. You should be able to place 2 scanners right by each other.

Definitely clear a large area before starting. It may take a few tries to get a pattern down, and you don't want to be there when the mobs start spawning again. CLEAR FIRST!! The mandatory distance you have to place the scanners is quite large. Your best bet is to stay away from the area that Dreadwing patrols.

Bring a friend or find someone nearby to help you and this quest becomes extremely easy. It is also very possible to solo this at 66.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about it being hard, it's really easy. You don't need to go mad clearing mobs, run towards Singing Ridge, andd just where the zone name changes to say "Singing Ridge" lay your first poles - the bottom 2 points of the star shape. Then just move forward as little as possible to lay the rest, I did this only having to kill 2 crystal flayers, no major clearing involved at all

I didn't really understand this quest or really what to do, so i just kinda ran around in a circle placing them, and eventually i got quest completed.

This quest will be kinda annoying with out a pet for when the guys spawn, i am a hunter so i was able to just have him agro them and keep placing..

Did this quest in liek 2 mins, cleared 3 dragons laid 6 in the largest circle I could and ran back to town before all the mobs that I aggrod could kill me.

Go to 59.81, 74.12 and clear the dragons. Drop the first on at same location I just mentioned before. Then make a box around it. I placed mine at four corners of the area but only went far enough to where it would let me place them. There is a marker in your buff screen that shows a minus if you can't place it. Pretty easy. You do get some 67 or 66 beasts but nothing to hard to handle. I did it solo at lvl 70 as a Prot spec warrior. Screen shot is forthcoming. I will add the corrds above as the caption.

You can just run back and forth just inside the singing ridge and place the resonators in a line. It only measures the distance to the last one placed and not the distance to the one placed before the last. I let whatever spawned hit me until I had all 5 down. Took about 15 to 20 sec and I didn't have to clear any drakes out. I was getting ticked trying to make a pentagram and just tried the linear approach.

This quest can be easier than it looks. Even if you don't get the right pattern with the dropped scanners, you may be able to complete the quest by mounting up and running through. You'll still need to drop at least 5 scanners, but the lines don't HAVE to make the right pattern.

Each positive (+) buff lasts about 2 seconds. Run through and pick up a buff or two from one area, and then get 3 or 4 from another and you can have get your 5. All the quest requires is that you have 5 of those buffs on you at once. =)

Also, if you're a druid who happens to have flight form, this becomes trivial. Just drop the scanner, pop into flight form, and take off, fly to next, and repeat. You might summon worms, but they get very sad when you fly away. They don't hang around after, either.

If you run away from the Wyrms, they will despawn after you disengage. This is easiest done if near Toshley's Station, so you don't need to worry about aggroing the dragons or flayers.

If you are having trouble with the pentigon pentigram I found it easier to make the usual Box then go to the middle real fast and go towards the left a bit and plant it. I stood there with a weird box with a hole in the middle. That completed the quest and it did seem easier then the demonic Pentigram.

I've never been able to figure this quest out before, for some reason. I was working on my 4th 70, my druid, and I decided I'd give it another shot.

This time I got it. First I made a Rectangle, then I put another point to make a triangle on top of the rectangle. Then I made another point in the center of the rectangle and I was done.

The picture I submitted shows it all. Look for Vespaa the druid. I didn't use flight form to figure out where to put them, only to take the picture. Be sure to clear the area first and this quest is a cake walk, really.

This quest was impossible on my mage. By the time I had an area clear, there were mobs respawning in the same place. Also, the wyrms use mana burn and will continuously hit you. A mage can only stand a few hits, and with Mana burn I had to sit and eat/drink every time I layed down one of the nodes.

So not worth it in my opinion.

Something exactly you need to know.
Make any shape that produces five or more beams.
Run ACROSS five beams (not along them) quickly. It's done.
With eacn beam you ran across, you get a buff which lasts only 2 seconds.
You need to collect all these five buffs before they fade and that will complete the quest objective.
It took me an hour before I figure out what it means, since no one here mention that.

This quest is definitely not worth it for clothies. While you'll probably get a spell power increase of about 15, you'll also probably have to give up some INT (aka "Mana") in the process. While the Spirit (aka "MP5") isn't bad, it doesn't offset the loss of mana.

I had no problem doing this quest. I didn't have to clear any mobs at all in fact. I only had to deal with the Wyrm things that spawn from the portals this quest opens.

I started by just going into the Singing Ridge zone and dropping a beacon. When you are in a certain range of a beacon, you get a debuff that tells you that you are to close to a beacon to drop another one. So what I did was run away from the beacon, and waited for the debuff to go away. Then I ran back towards the beacon and got fairly close to the beacon, and dropped another one before I could get the debuff again. I was able to pack them fairly densely this way. Then, rinse and repeat.

Something I noticed when I was doing it just now was that the negative buff seemed a little slow to fall off. Once it fell off, I noticed I could back up quite a ways before picking it back up. So, it might help to know you don't need to spread it out as much as it might seem you do, you might just need to give the negative buff a couple seconds to fall off.

I found an odd thing on my dwarf hunter, when i place the things i place them on top of myself trapping me inside and object and that's really bad when ur a hunter (tried disengage).

As a prot paladin i had severe problems doing this quest due to the mana burning spawns with my low single target dps. so after trying a couple of times i died running around like a headless chicken with 4 spawns and a huge group of mobs on me and only 4 buffs...
feeling rather beaten i decided to try it in a different way.

i bound the use of the item to mouseweel up and my flying mount to mouseweel down and i just spammed mount the moment i dropped the item. Flying up asap and leaving the spawn on the ground. Then flew to the next location, dropped down between mobs and spammed the item and mount again untill i had 5 totems in a rather random order. after that i just flew over/between them with flight speed and had the 5 of the buff on me in short order
also seems like a good tactic for mages to me

doing this i was able to get the quest in 5 minutes. but only after wasting half an hour on running around making pegan symbols in an online game :(

The easiest way to complete this quest is to drop a scanner, then mount up on your flying mount and fly straight up. After you loose your debuff, dismount (in mid air) and drop a new scanner. It will still appear on the ground even though it is dropped in mid air. rinse and repeat and you will have 5 scanners on top of each other.

OK. After going through the above posts, I finally hit on how to do this. You will need to clear a fair sized area first. Then place your first scanner off to one side. You will get a + and - buff. Move away from the scanner until the - buff drops. (Using a mount is suggested.) Then you can drop scanner two. Move away again until the - buff drops and drop scanner 3. Repeat until you get all five dropped. Mount up and get all five + buffs by riding around to the scanners. Done.

I don't think this is as hard as everyone is making out. Perhaps it's been nerfed a bit.

It is very helpful to start right at the boundary of Singing Ridge and Razor Ridge (just north of Toshley's Station). That way there aren't a lot of mobs to bother you.

I think it is very helpful to plan to fly between stops. Go until your ' - ' debuff disappears and drop a scanner, rinse and repeat. Whether you 'box', 'circle', 'house', or' pentagram' doesn't seem to matter all that much.

It takes more time to read the complaints here than it does to do the quest. The rewards don't amount to much for either leather or clothe wearers, but a quest is a quest....

Drop the gauges in a square box shape, so one at each of the four corners and then put one in the middle of the box. kill mobs as needed and once all five are laid down, mount up and run over the 'lines' of enery between the gauges. It is not necessary to travel far from the quest start point but it will let you know if you have to back up further in order to drop them.

It's worth noting that some buff addons will interfere with you seeing how many different "Resonant Frequency" buffs you have. As was mentioned, the quest completes when you get 5 of them, but since they're all titled the same and have the same duration they can be a bit spastic. The buff addon I run is called "Raven" and it only showed one, but I still got the quest complete after a couple tries.

This was the easiest way for me to do this quest. I did it as a 66 Combat/Subtlety Rogue. Once I placed one I vanished but those little flying mana fish would come after me. I would kill them, then use (premeditation) to finish the cooldown on my vanish, place another and vanish again. I died about 5 times trying to do it, but I found that the best place for this was about 65,77.

For those of you that don't want to ditch this quest here is the best way. (Took me about 3 minutes and didn't die once)

- Go to 61,76 and clear out any mobs within view of that spot.
- Drop the centre one right on 61,76
- walk in any direction away from it till the "-" disappears from beside your mini-map, when it does (IMPORTANT!) take 6 or so steps backwards (bak towards centre) and drop another one
- walk back to the middle one and repeat above step in a 90 from the one you just did.
- keep repeating till you create a nice diamond shape and all beams are hitting eachother.

Side Notes:
- The things you set down are time sensitive so you do have to keep moving (why you cleared out the mobs). There not hardcore timed so you can walk around for a while but they will drop eventually in which case you just replace it.
- When you put them down a portal appears and sometimes spawns a bat thing.
- The more you put down the laggier it's gonna get.

Now, this is the kind of quest I love. A puzzle to figure out, relatively easy mobs, and not that much of a distance to travel! Woo hoo!

A little to the south of Toshley Station is the place to set up. It's the same subzone where you killed the Nether Drakes and Crystal Flayers earlier. Place the Oscillator in your action bar for easy access. (Or don't. See if I care. If not you'll have to secondary-click on it in your Inventory each time, though.) You should clear the immediate area, but this shouldn't be much of a problem since the mobs are spread out enough, assuming you pick the right area. Any place within the "Singing Ridge" area will do; I thought that it had to be a place that had lots of the crystals, but it doesn't. You need coordinates? Go back to playing Freecell.

Now click on the Oscillator to set it, and kill the little spud that comes out of the rift. They don't have any special abilities other than being level 66. Walk in any direction until the debuff (next to your minimap) goes away, then plant a new one.

Now. Turn 72 degrees to the left of the line that just sprang up. You are forming a pentagon, and each angle of a regular 5-sided figure is that value. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you need to be at least up to the brown book in Geometry. The nice thing is that you have a lot of leeway, and as long as you're somewhere between 45 and 90 degrees you should be OK. For the purposes of this article I'll advise turning left every time, though right would also be a suitable choice. Just make sure that you're enclosing an area which, when complete, will be five-sided.

Repeat the process of walking till the debuff disappears and planting the oscillator, then turning to the left. After you plant the fourth one, you should see the first one still glowing to your left. You can now turn, walk, plant, and make the last two vertices of the polygon! And then you go all the way to the middle and you get the quest completion. It took me all of two tries, and that only because I ran into a newly spawned Dragonkin.

Obviously you need to find an area that has enough room to make a figure of the proper size, but that's practically anywhere in the subzone. Like I said, there's a lot of leeway. My pentagon looked more like the side view of a cut diamond. But for anyone with a grade-school education in math, this is no trouble and goood fun! And for those of you who don't have that level of education, stop asking me to sign your charter for a guild based on the most recent action movie.

The only quest that irritated me more, than this one, is the big bone worm. That is until I realized two things.

1) The blue streams that come out of the emitters mean absolutely nothing. The only thing they do is CAUSE LAG and look pretty.

2) Because of the lag created by said streams, the game will often tell you, you are too close to the other emitters when in fact your not.

I recommend planting the center emitter then walking in one direction until the game says you’re out of range of the first, then turn around and take 4-5 steps back before placing the second.

The key is, the distance from any emitter to emitter “c” (below) must be more then 25 yards and less than 40. 30-35 yards is perfect, because then you can simply go stand anywhere next to emitter “c” to complete.

I dont understand what people are whining about. It literally took me less than a minute and the gear is pretty good for its respective classes. I killed 1 mob the entire time and pretty much just put them in a random order that looked similar to a dice face.

ok all these "maps" are stupid.... go to 61, 76 clear mobs and drop one. move away un til the "minus sign" is gone from your buff area and drop another one. keep doing this till you get like 5 or 6 down. run through the middle till you get 5 or more "plus signs". done.

Step 1 : Accept Quest
Step 2 : Go south of Toshley's Camp, you'll see crystals on a small hill, when you approach it you'll enter 'Singing Ridge', exact coordinates of the hill is (60,72)
Step 3 : Kill Crystal Flayer, killing the Lesser Nether Drake is optional
Step 4 : Set the five Oscillating Frequency Scanners in a circle around the small hill (Southwest, West, North, East, and Southeast of the hill for example)
Step 5 : Stand on the hill

Notes : I say killing the Lesser Nether Drake is optional because I'm a druid and I can put it to sleep with Hibernate, I didn't even bother to kill the Wyrms, I just ran around spamming the Oscillating Frequency Scanners, stood on the hill, and got credit. Most of these other people want you to go deep into Singing Ridge and get killed by adds or waste time clearing the area, its not necessary. Keep it simple and do it near Toshley's Camp. This Quest is so easy.. dunno why ppl are havin so many problems with it..
i just run south out of the town untill i seen "Singing Ridge" apear on my screen and then just placed one and then just ran directly forward untill the negetive charge disapeared and placed another and i did this 2 more time untill i made a square and at first nothin happened so i just added 2 more in completely random places and it said complete. Only took me 2/3 minutes to do and i never had to kill a single mob apart from those stupid mana fings that spawn.. :)

This was tricky. Clear a large area around, then just throw them into a diamond shape with one other somewhere in the middle, and find the spot where you have five oscillations going. It should say completed.

dropped a scanner, ran the required distance away (further south of course to remain in the required zone), dropped another, etc. had to kill a few mobs to get the space. then ran randomly about in the middle of the strange looking shape i'd created and got the quest completed almost instantly.

all up took just under 3 minutes.

Well i did this quest farely easy placed the first node at 61,76 walked backward till - went away from the side of my minimap and then took 2 steps forward placed another node. Walked back to the first node then went forward did the same thing, rinse-repeat on the other sides of the node. Looked like this

this is possibly my least favorite quest ever- definitely the worst so far in outland. there are so many damn netherdrakes (which i attempted to clear all of before creating the dice pattern, but a few drifted over), plus the wyms... so annoying. in the time that it took me to complete this quest, i could have gotten way better xp elsewhere. also, the cloth pants are not only hideous, but much worse than some pretty cheap pants on the ah. waste of time!

Ok here is a few notes on this, first of all dont worry about them being close together. Dont go far away but they dont have to as close as you can get them. Second the thing i noticed that worked was when you place one and you get the thing saying you are too close to one just walk till it goes away and place another till they are all in the right spots. If you do need to place closer for any reason you can walk till it says you are far enough and then walk back a little without it giving you crap about it.

You will place 6 of them down where the x's are and when they all connect they will create 2 squares that hook together with X's in the middles of them. What it means be 5 lines inside is the one thats going straight up and down, and the 4 that are going diagonal to form x's! Hope this helps!

What a painful quest.
My level 67 Pally (Retribution spec) had huge trouble with this. It's not the shape of the scanners, I can handle that, but every time the distance between them changes. Not to mention the worms that drain your mana. As soon as I get 4 scanners up (With very little heath and mana left!) the first one I placed disappears.
The quest reward isn't very tempting either.

Don't bother with this quest. This and another quest (that was bugged) are the only two that I've ever 'abandoned'. It pains me to say it, but this really isn't worth your time.

Set them up like a house, pentagram, square, informal circle, etc... nothing is going to make the requrements for this quest to be complete.

It's enough to give a person a headache. That's all this quest is good for. And yes I tried all the above, cleared the area several times, and had two others helping who were on the same quest. It can't be that all of us are dumb. But this quest sure is!

oh my god, that was horrible.

If you want to do this, then first make sure that you clear the area. you won't have enough time to kill them as you place the frequency scanners.

then just place them in a circular, or pentagonal patern and stand in the middle.

This is a frustrating quest, so to eliminate as much of that don't read any of the posts below this one. Most of the Co Ordinates are incorrect and won't work for you.

The trick is not to make a box, but to make a triangle, then the other side of the box. If you don't, your box will never be big enough for you to drop the fifth one. So make a large triangle, then complete the other side. I found it easier to draw from the third person over head view.

Clear a large area in Singing Ridge, roaming mobs are the primary concern.

Drop one of the modulator thingies in a far corner of your cleared area, run a straight line across making a side of the triangle. When the red negative sign disappears drop your second modulator.

Go to the middle of the line you just made. Now run towards the center of your cleared area, do the same when the red negative sign disappears. Your triangle is complete, now just finish the other two sides and then run to the center of the "X" in the box, quest completes.

I really don't know what the problem is here. This quest took me all of about 5 minutes. Took out about 3/4 mobs in an imaginary square, then went to the middle of the "square" to drop centre one - then just went to each corner of the square to drop the others. If I got a "can't place that here", I just moved a little further out.

I did use the earlier tip about not looting the downed mobs though - nice tip :)

just watch the + and - symbols in the top right corner to see when you can lay the next post. this will all make sense when you try the quest

simply make a big square. once the 4th corner is placed the beams will cross on the centre of the square. now place the 5th post on the cross. done!

I tried the nice perfect dice shaped, didn't work.
Sooooo, I just placed a center one and then went around dropping them like mad wherever i could and finished the quest.

I did this on March 31 as a level 67 rogue and did not find it very difficult. Either the lag issue was fixed or I got a lucky fluke, because I did not lag at all. The spawns stopped for me eventually, after I dropped about ten. My biggest issue was the 3.5 min to drop all five - one disappeared and I hadn't realized it. I just did an irregular pentagon shape around the hill closest to Toshley's station. For my last two placements, I just ran into the spawns with sprint, dropped the scanners, and vanished. Just a warning though, if you try to place them on steep hills you will get lodged in the scanners for 3 and a half minutes, unable to move.

I tried this several times .. constantly killing mobs to keep the area clear as well as those buggers that spawn when u place a scanner. I finally got the damn lines to cross in the middle of my 5 sided shape and NOTHING happened! I ran to the middle and still nothing - then some mobs spawned and my scanners started fading.

I got totally pissed off and abandoned the stupid quest!

For me, this has got to be the worst quest I've ever done (so far). Also, this was my 1st abandoned quest. Blizz can shove it where the sun don't shine for all I care - the rewards suk puss and I prolly earned the XP killing all the mobs so many times anyway.

very easy just go to the begin of singing ridge and there shoudl be only 2 netherdrakes that you will have to clear and then just place them just like every1 else said so

Well this marks a first. I wanted to do all the quests I could in Outlands because I found them enjoyable, interesting, fun. Plus there is the bonus gold I get now that I'm 70. But this quest is so horrible it's taking a lot of restraint not to fill this entire reply with curses. I tried it 3 times, two with various instructions found below. I don't know what Blizzard wants with me but I've now found something worse than escort quests.

I hope Nickwinkle burns for a very long time before screaming his last.

Unless you really are attracted to the rewards I would recommending skipping this. It's not worth the frustration.

Tried twice: First time I used "X" pattern and kept drawing aggro until I was just so tired of it that I gave up. Second time I tried the "Pentagon" shape at the hill just inside Singing Ridge, but kept getting "Can't place that one here" message, started drawing spawns and once again gave up in frustration. I took another look at the rewards, decided that none of them were worth the effort, and dropped it (first time I ever dropped a quest that hadn't gone gray!). Note that it's not a matter of getting killed , too many adds, or anything else - this is just too aggravating. You're better off taking up golf, at least you'll get some fresh air! Anyone who enjoyed this probably likes Shemp, too.

P.S. I wouldn't want Nickwinkle to burn, as suggested in prior posts... that's too merciful. Prolonged, agonizing exposure to Nether Radiation is more to my liking!

I rarely post, but all of these posts confused me except one. The 5 on a dice.
First set up a line (2 oscilators) go to the center of that line and walk perpendicular until you can place a third. At this point you will have a triangle. The original line plus the point perpendicular.
Also at this point you should be able to see how the 5 on the dice is shaping.

The third one you placed will be the center of the dice.

Run over to the other two spots and place them.

takes a minimum of 5 points to complete

1st. clear a decent sized area, I just killed the drakes

2nd. go to an outside corner of the cleared area, I started at 59,73 head to next corner 59,74 then 60,74 finally 60,73
if the adds spawn when you drop a scanner there should be time time to kill it then move on

3rd. run to the middle of the formed square and drop the 5th scanner, quest should complete

for those who don't have a coordinate addon, get one, wow.curse.com, cosmos is a nice addon package with coords. titan panel is nice too, I suggest the addon WorldMapInfo if you choose titan (adds a cursor and player location to your map, comes with cosmos)

Don't bother with this UNBELIEVABLY STUPID QUEST!

Totally NOT worth it. I spent TWO F***ING HOURS on it, and never could get it. Tried every map offered here, at every set of coordinates mentioned, and I could never get credit for the damn quest. If the stupid f***king sensors would last more than 3.5 minutes then it would be doable, but you spend so damn much time killing the f***ing wyrms and dragons and whatnot, that by the time you place the last f***ing sensor, the first f***ing sensor is gone. Jesus f***ing Christ!

It's not part of a chain, so save yourself a sh*tload of frustration and DUMP the goddamn thing! Abandon it! NOW!

I did this as a warrior... killed nothing... made a 5 on the dice pattern starting from the center, adding the other 4 around. Went back to the center got the complete and ran out doing piercing howl. I turned in the quest and then had to kill one of those ell things which just wouldn't leave me alone.

Crappy quest, got luck the first time but the framerates dropped like a brick when all the scanners were on!

I have a 2.4GHZ Dual core, 2G memory and a 7900GTO 256mb card but it looked like some old dos game!

How is this difficult? It takes 4 minutes... Run south of the camp for a few seconds until you see "Singing Ridge" pop up as you enter the area. Clear the mobs--you'll want an area about the size of a circle that takes approx. eight seconds to run across on foot. Place the first one down on the south side, run about eight seconds north, then just make it an equal-sided square. Drop the fifth one in the middle where the beams meet and you're done.

Gauging the Resonant Frequency

Place the Oscillating Frequency Scanners in such a way that when you stand amongst them, you are hit by 5 overlapping Oscillation fields.

Take these scanners to the Singing Ridge. By dropping them in a pattern on the ground, you will create overlapping fields that will read the amplitude of the crystals. Stand amidst them in such a way that you're in five oscillation fields and I'll have the information that I need!
