I just want to say that this was a craaazy quest to do solo as a 68 priest. I did it w/ no deaths, but there are a lot of mobs that gave me trouble. It's quite a distance from the "cave" entrance to get to the dead dwarf, and along the way there are patrolling engineers, infernals, and infernals that spawn if you walk too close to them. So be careful!

Go down the hall, turn right, then left, then right again I think. Just keep going all the way, and finally you find the dwarf.

I would suggest doing this in a group to speed up the process. I did this as a solo full prot warrior, at one point I would die, run back, and there would be respawns, by the end I just run in, die, res, run in some more. He is at the VERY FAR BACK, and every inch of the place has 68+ mobs. So get a group going and finish it in one go.

This quest can be annoying for a firemage. There are infernals along the way that are immune to fire, beware. Other than that, it's a relatively easy quest.

Easy as a lvl 70 feral druid. Going in was no problem. Going out I tried to do it the easy way and hit Dash while prowling. Unfortunately, I passed too close by a dormant infernal and got hit by fire which broke stealth. I almost made it to the entrance though.. :P

Actually this was easy with 2... 70 shaman and hunter... but i could have soloed it too... for the Dormant Infernal just need to stick to the middle... they have a really small Aggro range...also depend on class and built... but generally easy... just need to be aware of the Tinker/Elemental Pat... died once but that is cause I was careless.

The Deathforge is plain ridiculous. The respawn rate is insane, mobs aggro from very far away, the mobs use ridiculous abilities (Shrapnel bomb, mines), and getting adds is easy. When you die, the mobs will have respawned, leaving you no safe place to rez.

Bring a friend, or expect to die a lot.

Got discouraged when I saw Kagrosh, the Horde's NPC.. almost ran out, but went a little further - turns out Flanis is in the room just beyond him.

Paladins, don't forget that there are demons (including the Tinkerers), so make sure to use your Demon combat abilities. Soloed this as a 70 Prot Pally with no problems (though I was fortunate enough to not really have any adds to each group that I fought while in there). The Dormant mobs don't attack unless you attack them, so don't Consecrate near them.

The quest is hard to solo, period. I did it quickly with a 70 mage and 70 lock. I died a few times trying to solo as a 70 lock. Just too many mobs and tinkerers are damned hard to solo in cloth as affliction.

Nothing complicated, just work your way back to the coords.

Better than having any exact coordinates for the corpse, simply go to 40,38 as stated above, take the tunnel to the right. Move to the very end of this tunnel, it will be quite a lot of mobs to fight on the way and the the fact that newly made elementals to craft infernals are being escorted from the summoning room into the "factory" and they are being spawned regulary. When you reach a door requiring Deathforge Key you've reached a milestone, skip the door and keep moving. Next into the narrow tunnel, keep in the middle and fight the newly made infermals and after those you will meet two deathforge guardians. Behind them stands a summoner with his demon, kill him and you've free passage to the corpse of Flanis.

If you're a ranged class the corpse of the summoner might drop down over Flanis, so you don't do the mistake of not being able to find him like I did (went back out again thinking where the heck this guy could be), so I was there twice. Fortunatly I checked extra carefully and his corpse was under the summoner :-)

An easy solo quest for a 69 warlock. Take your time, banish when necessary and watch out for the patrol with the fire elemental (easily dealt with using banish, of course)

For people with stealth, I suggest being really careful in the hallway on the way down, as there are some pats that literally SPRING through, back and forth.

One of them ran into me, and that caused about four orcs to link, and I died in the middle of the tunnel. Died again after doing a corpse run, and so on until I was able to rez at the very end and successfully defeat the one mob there.

Run back to your corpse by entering the cave at 40,38.

Rez in the corner and eat and drink, talk to Flanis laying dead on the floor.

Something i found extremely annoying was the Deathforge Tinkerers running all the way from the corridor to the dwarf's body..

I did this as a druid, in stealth, and the first time they saw me and aggroed a hell of mobs :(

So be careful, i used dash to get away as fast as i could when done.

The three quests inside Deathforge; The Fate of Flanis, The Summoning Chamber and the followup, Bring Down the Warbringer! are admittedly quite tough to solo for anyone who can't stealth in or handle at least 3-4 mobs at range. As a BM Hunter I had a few close calls but after the third trip in to get the Warbringer I had a good strat.

Move down the ramp killing the guards, wait for the pathing fire elemental and escorting tinkerers, send pet on elemental, the two tinkerers will head for you in short order and as soon as the elemental drops about 25%. They will plant a bomb near you, so trap one, move away from bomb, feign death, burn down the elemental have pet intimidate the untrapped tinkerer, burn it down and by that time the trapped one will be ready.

For the warlocks my normal strat is send pet on Warlock, kill imp and finish up warlock. The bridge you cross to reach the room with the infernals will have 4 warlock/imp mobs and one pathing in the centre. You can take out the guards at the start of bridge, take out the pathing one and then move across safely taking out the others. If you've killed the pathing fire elemental before the bridge, chances are it will be coming through again by the time you get through the warlocks, so watch your back.

After the bridge you'll see the portcullis door to the left (go back to here for Warbringer), hug wall and move forward to the right. The tinkerers here will likely bring one to help so watch the adds. Don't kill the dormant infernals (suspended orbs), they won't aggro you. At the end of the hall in a room is Flanis. Like mentioned above, the mob I killed landed on his body and I had a hard time seeing him on the floor.

As an aside, sure corpse runs are fine, stealthing is fine, but It is really worth clearing the mobs in the area to complete quest if you can handle it or have a friend to help. After the three quests I had 3x Fel Armaments, 25 Marks of Sargeras, 6 Greens, almost 3 stacks of cloth and the coin drops from mobs. Add the gold reward for quests at 70 and your getting close to 150g. Not bad for about an hour of work. To be honest with some better gear I'd be tempted to farm this area in the future.

These quests in shadowmoon valley are ridicules for warriors if you don't have a partner save your self from being killed like 80 times and go quest somewhere else.

I was able to solo this as a resto shaman, but only just. The piles of tinkers and their incessant bombing, making you do a dance the entire time you're trying to fight, is pretty ridiculous and I found myself having to drink several times going in and out.

The tinkers (I am assuming it was them, as they were the only thing I was fighting when this happened) activate the dormant infernals and cause them to attack you.

One thing I did do, because I really hate fighting that set of 2 tinkers + infernal soul, if I saw it coming I dropped off the bridge to the area below. It takes a couple of minutes for the next set to spawn, and at least all you have to deal with on the way out of there are the guardians. If you are level 70, you may be able to get away with just jumping up on the railing to avoid them. They *do* see you at level 70 when you are only pressed against the railing, however I was able to pass them by at one point while walking on the railing at a point where jumping down would have meant a fiery death.

You can also disrupt the summoning from the other side of the pool, so when you finish this quest, on the way out, jump off the right side of the bridge. When you get down to the water you can heal up and get ready for the disrupting quest. You don't have to get too close to the summoning to disrupt it, so all you have to fight there is the elemental(once you use the tool you brought with you).
Of course, this is if you picked up both quests before you started this one. ;)

I just solo'ed this (71lvl pro pally) and found this laughibly easy, just stay to the left til you get to the infernals and you will not aggro many mobs. then do not mess with the unformed infernals just kill the ones walking around. The final mob where flanis is is just a normal so nothing special about it. Have fun and happy questing.

Just completed as a lvl 68 retri paladin. Very soloable. Go down the ramp into the Deathforge, take the first cave on the right. Stick to the right hand side of the cave and you should only have to fight about 1/2 of the mobs. Follow the previous advice and don't touch the glowing balls.
On the way back out I got about 3/4 of the way before running into respawns.

All in all not too difficult a quest as long as you avoid aggroing more than 1 mob at a time.

Oh and a tip for fighting the summoners, kill the imp first (I used exorcism, 1 hit kill, and aggro's the summoner) the imp's have low health/armor but do a respectable amount of damage.

edit: oh and if you use AoE spells whilst fighting the tinkerers you destroy their mines before they go off.

I just soloed this as a 71 Arcane Mage in 15 minutes. Once I saw the earlier comments about how far into the cave I needed to go, and how many mobs I had to deal with on the way, I just used Invisability to sneak past as many as possible. Ended up only needing to kill three mobs, none very difficult. Note that you can walk right past the Dormant Elementals. No need to spend time killing them.

Solo'ed as level 68 protection warrior. It was pretty easy; never died and only used a couple bandages and one health potion. Finished in about 15 minutes.

Stay away from the glowing balls toward the end because they respawn immediately - try to stay in the middle when you get to them.

I hearthed out after getting Flanis's Pack because I would have had to fight my way back out and didn't feel like it.

Here's how to do this->

Enter the cave, stick to the right hand side(killing the gaurds and summoners). Once you hit the summoner room, stick to the RIGHT WALL. Once you see all the infernal gaurds(and the tinkerers running around). Just make a full on sprint to get to this blasted dwarf(I use HoP(Hand of Protection).) Once you make it to the end GRAB THE Backpack! You can respawn above the dwarf(if you die where the dwarf is).

As a level 67 combat rogue with no enchants and only quest rewarded gear, stealthing my way in, I found that I was still spotted quite often. Once in a fight, other mobs ended up getting in on the action and dying was the inevitable outcome. Then I realized that I had Steath of the Stalker, a reward from a quest called Ridgespine Menace in Blade's Edge Mountains. Once I drank that I stealthed right in, sapped the mob standing over Flanis's body, killed his pet, then took the pack and stealthed my way back out.

Yup, that'll teach me not to read the quest properly! I did manage to battle my way past all the guards and kill the final summoner and imp, and thought I'd wasted my time as the room was a dead end. Didn't notice Flanis's corpse there, which you have to speak to!

Soloed this as a level 72 BM Hunter. Yeah....it was tough!The worst part is the number of mobs with little demons. If you're still finishing off a set of them and another set spawns or walks you're way, it can be more than you bargained for.

The first time I tried, I got all the way to the end of the tunnel and Flanis wasn't there like everyone said (there was no one else around that may have just retrieved the bag). Got killed on the way out (of course). He was there the second time though.

I don't know what I'd do without Prowl.

Probably be 10 levels higher from all the mobs I've skipped.

Just be careful, some of the mobs move really fast and might bump into you. Then you're dead.

This was challenging at first, then I got the trick...kill all
path'rs, peel and kill standing mobs in your way, fast, one at
a time, then use their foot prints to stay out of agro range,
and dont get hit by the mines the little freaks drop, and walla,
your at the back room before you know it, and remember the
elemental and his handlers will make an appearance every 5 to
10 min.

The body was right where people said, all the way in the back
room, of the first entrance with the bridge.

You have to be quick the respawns are fast, admitedly I died
once, but that was cause I got greedy and wasnt paying attention
and let the elemental pather and his buddies sneak up on me
and gank me from behind.

There is no need to kill every thing, just the path'rs and the
mobs on one side, of the bridge and the front room, and the
ones too close that might agro, once your at the hall to the
last room, with the infernals, peel and kill everything through
to the end.

The warlock with the imp was refressing, after all that.

you can make your way through very nicely if you just remember
about the elemental and his handlers, that come through every
5-10 min.

Use the foot prints of the previous mob you killed to stay out
of agro range of repops, and kill as fast as you can without
being careless.

Did this solo as a 68th lvl human warlock.

In my humble opinion this is a two person quest. Sure, some classes can do it without a problem solo, but if that is the rating, I've finished many two and three man quests solo; should they just rate them all as solo then?

Much gnashing of teeth during this quest (I died four times, which I'm not used to at all) and whatever programmer came up with this infernal thing (no pun intended) and named it as solo, sorry for all the things I said about you, and hopefully my spoken wishes about your internal organs never come true.

okay it's rather easy: if you go down teh ramp to get to the deathforge, take the first cave entrance you see on your right. go straigh through, kill everymob you see, keep going further into the cave.... go past the newly crafter infernals... and his body will be right there, under a deathforge summoner.

and its 34,39 in the cave, if you have locations.

Be careful in the Deathforge. There are two types of patrols: (A) warlock with imp, and (B) infernal essence (looks like fire ele) with 2-3 handlers (who plant bombs). Always watch your back and you will be okay.

ok it seems I get to be the voice of dissent once again, but this quest makes me ask the question WTF. I am a rogue and I have died so many times trying to get to the back it is not even close to being hillarious. SOmething always catches you, and if they do you can't vanish cause everything AOEs and pulls you out of stealth and you die anyway. Who ever in Bliz invented this gauntlet needs to be smacked repeatedly until the idea sinks in. All the things in there do not compare with the insanity of those damn tinkerers and their 'let's drop a mine the second I see something'. Once you realize you are in trouble vanishing wont do much good.

After finishing the chain that ends with "Blast the Infernals!", u get a quest to deliver at a guard on a tower by Deathforge. He will give u a quest to kill 10 guards and 5 summoners, and then u get this one

Whenever this method may have worked for anyone before, it does not work now. Died at precisely 34.0, 39.0(cartographer mod used), corpse-ran to SE corner of room with mobs, quest and otherwise.....could not rezz, closest could get to same coords above was 34.4, 39.9. Picky perhaps, but no luck. I'm either getting another, preferably a hunter, or I'm dropping this one in the abandoned bin of lost causes. Good luck and grats to those who solo this and don't pay more in repairs than they receive for completion of the quest.

When you guys say "take the first entrance to the right" is that the one right near the Wildhammer tower (that leads down to the summoning chamber) OR the one to the west where you walk down (that has various guards and warlocks on the bridge above the summoning chamber)?

not easy. First the direction, as too many annoying posts don't have them. I won't bother with coords they are underground. Go down the ramp, go right into the first entrance. Stay to your right, then into the tunnel with the orbs (they turn into infernals if you get near them). Go to the end of that hallway and click on the body (I was looking for a sparkly thing- it's not sparkly- you just have to click it).

I do have points in meditation, it helps (more so for the other quest to go with this one), but isn't necessary. If you get to 1/4 or 1/8 mana, drink. Bring lots of water. The biggest thing to watch for is that infernal soul pat. He was buggy for me tonight (on the other quest to go with this one actually), and kept respawning after 1 minute. So I'd just wait for him to head in, then go in after him. If you are 69 your aggro range will be ok for this quest. Just kill the guys on the right side of the wide hallway (don't have to kill left side). Go in kill the forge and tinkerer guys for the other quest. Stay to your right in the big room with all the forge guys. Kill all the tinkerers before going into the hallway with the orbs. Your aggro range at 69 will be ok to run in between the orbs. At first I tried killing them, but they instantly respawn.

So just run in between the orbs and get up to melee range to the next (real) mob. Shield of course and take them down. Slowly but surely you'll make it to the end of the hallway. Getting back was more difficult because the tinekers respawned and kept going into the hallway making moving away from the mines difficult. If you aren't sure about where you are moving (don't back into an orb!) just heal yourself thru the mine damage. Stay to your left and exit the cave/tunnel. Killing mobs on the left side then the 2 guys near the entrance. Watch for guys behind curtains. And watch for that infernal soul/tinkerer patrol, you'll most likely hit them. Not bad at full or half mana. Just keep away from the tinkerer bombs and watch where you move!

P.S. this quest isn't that hard! you don't need a group. I was in low 60's gear for the most part as I skipped Netherstorm and Blades Edge. When I hit 70 I'll go to Northrend. My hit rating is only 12 (from a gem from the Cenarian cloth helm from the zangarmarsh quest). So gear isn't that important. Being careful and not aggroing too much is.

Personally, it's in your best interest if you are NOT a Rogue to just kill everything, then there are no surprises <shrugs>. I did notice that the Infernal balls on the wall hahaha would not aggro so just kill the newly spawned ones which btw do not drop loot. The summoner in the final room actually drops right on Flanis so wait till his corpse poofs, finish the quest and either HS out or fight your way out. :)

It was challenging, but fun. OH! Also, when the two tinkerer's and the Elemental were coming on the bridge I jumped to a side pylon, dismissed pet and shadowmelded and they never aggro'd in case anyone cares :)

Follow the passageway all the way to the end, to a room with one Summoner & Imp.

at 34,39 inside the deathforge, guarded pretty heavily. Not a problem for me (rogue) because I can stealth my way in. This is the same general area where you get the elemental displacer for the "summoning Chamber" quest, except that you have to venture deeper, past the dormant infernals and the infernals.

The body itself is only guarded by a Deathforge Summoner, a lvl 68 humanoid, along with a lv 67 Deathforge Imp (YMMV).

After you kill those, right click to talk to the body - and click on "Reclaim Flanis's pack"

Solo'ed as lv 67 rogue. Might take a partner if you cannot stealth in, to take care of the mobs before u get to the body.

BTW u dont have to have any keys to get here.

Enter the tunnel and head right when you get near the locked gate.
Watch the 2 tinkerers, they run around alot so use distract.
When you get to the end Sap the Summoner, kill the Imp then the Summoner.
Get the bag.
Wait for the Tinkerer to come down and go back up.
Sap a Guardian, pull the other into the empty room. \kill him then the other.
Wait for a Tinkerer to come back down and use Gun/Bow or whatever the Elemental Summoner dropped 1st time.

69 druid stealthed the entire way and popped out only to kill a summoner, clicked on the body, went on my merry little way.
For those non stealthers, just kill everything in the way.
Went down the path from the north, took the first entrance, stayed to the right.

as a holy spec'd pally i found this quite tough.. very slow going but you can avoid the constant ever-respawning patrols by hiding on the sides of the bridges, under small rocks, behind shrubs etc ;D

borrowed the help of a hunter friend and bingo it was a breeze.

First, u need to do the Infernal Attackers Quest from the guy standing outside the gate of Wildhammer Stronghold - then he sends u to Legion Hold, to use the communication device and a disguise... then, I think u can get this quest from the guy at the tower at Deathforge...

Hope this helps anyone who missed getting it cause they flew in at 50000 feet and didnt see the little dwarf guy at the door :-/

Annoying as hell as prot warrior. Can't kill fast enough to be the respawns on the way out, 4 tinkers and infernal on me, while i take 30 seconds to kill one. So basically its corpse runs to see how far I can get between deaths. 2 deaths in, and expect 2-3 more when I have to do the gate part. not really room to eat or bandage. Probably would have died a couple of times specced as dps yesterday b4 going back prot.

Feral druid, stealthed in, killed only what I needed. In and out fast.

Hunter... just destroyed everything in my way.

Wing Commander Nuainn originally sent three of us out here to keep watch over the Deathforge and to gather information. Flanis Swiftwing volunteered to try to infiltrate the Deathforge, but we haven't heard anything from him in days.

I fear the worst, <name>. Flanis is a skilled scout, but if he's gotten in over his head, we have no way of knowing. Search the Deathforge for him and recover any information or items he might have collected.
