Ive tried several spots, the drop -ofcourse- doesnt change.
I killed about 40 mobs when the 7th dropped.. Really bad drop rate.

In addition to their other immunities, they're immune to rend, deep wounds, impale, and hamstring. I would've tested mortal strike against them, but since I don't have any mana, they don't use mana drain on me.

Drop rate doesn't change from area to area, so ignore the above posts saying that the drop rate is best as so-and-so.

Droprate for the 7 quest items is about 35%.
Just keep killing them around 37,59 until you have them all.

Kill the Mana Wraiths for the quest drops, the drop rate is NOT that great BUT they do drop motes of mana which are good for alot of trades or just to sell for some nice gold, so it's not so bad.

In Ruins of Enkaat u will find many spots :).
For me it was 2 kill each drop, good XP and nice Quest. :)

Took me 13 kills to get the first. Be prepared to bring plenty of water if you're a mana user as the mana burn potential will leave you empty often

They do arcane damage instead of physical and you can't block it with your shield, or parry with your weapon.

Bad news for hunters these creatures are immune to almost all of your attacks. Even Hunter's Mark wont work. If you are in Marks use Aimed shot.

Also I had a really bad drop rate for this quest

This quest sucks big time for all balance druids out there!
These guys are immune to Wrath, Starfire AND Moonfire..
Entangling Roots and Insect Swarm works, but it takes alot of time of course..

Going into Cat form to kill these guys really sucks, 'cause you don't have too much DPS in Cat as a balance druid..
All in all a really awful quest for Balance druids!

i don't know but - they are pretty easy for - holy paladin or retribution paladin - it was easy for me - .. ahh i have no problem with holy paladin - i kill everything - nothing can't beat my pala :D

Must have changed the drop rate, killed about 16 of them to get 7/7. So drop rate was about 43% for me, maybe i just got lucky though.

They will drain your mana

Droprate is 50% according to my mod, wowhead info is unreliable because of people farming these mobs without the quest.

No comments in quite awhile. I went to Chief Engineer Trep to get the quest. Apparently he is no longer offering it, or anything for that matter. He is located in Area 52 at 32, 66 if you have coords.

what happen to me was when I kill it before it did use its Devour mana spell on me it drop, but when it did cast that spell there where no essence

Killed my first one, and he didn't nmanage to drain any mana from me. I sent my pet on and fired Steady Shot until he started casting, then did a Silencing Shot and continued with Steady Shot. He tried to cast a second time, but died before finishing.

U will find lots of them just north camp of doom and drop rate is normal one. some ppl are just unlucky at some of this kind of quests

I agree with the bad drop rate, but the respawn time + the motes of mana + value of vendor trash + 1k+XP/kill makes it worth it.

From reading the previous posts, I think the trend here is that you need to kill about 20 or so before they start dropping. Some may claim they did it in 8 kills, but it appears to be typical of Blizz to have you kill 20, drop 2, kill 5, drop 3, kill 20, drop 2, etc...

Grind away...

Lots in the 30,70 and surrounding areas.

BTW, double up on your mana pots. Your gonna need them.

What's with the bickering about drop rates? Whether you get the drop or not is pure chance - seems like some people are trying to imply some sort of special skill if they get good drop rates - it just ain't so...

i didnt have any problems.. hit first three wraiths and they all dropped mana essence.. i finished the quest in 15 minutes so they must have changed the drop rate because it was so easy it was a joke... either that or im the luckiest guy alive.. and i know that aint true

Yeah, the drop rate is terrible, I'm on with this quest now, I've killed about 20 of them and only dropped two of the essences :(

Drop rate did not seem to horrible, maybe one out of three... But I also picked up three greens doing this quest.

With the various comments about mana drain, I decided to kill them from max distance, but it did not seem to help. When they cast the drain, it sucked 400 odd mana, but I life tap for 800 odd mana, so not so bad.

Just watch your mana (casters) because as a priest this was a very annoying quest. Whenever they were at 5% they'd drained me twice and given themselves life. Basically I just went all out and spammed skills and ended up drinking around every 3 kills >>

Yeah, drop rate isn't the best on these guys. However, if you do the quest chains at The Heap (gathering the Zaxxis Insignias, killing the leader, and getting ethereal technology), you can kill them on your way to and from Area 52. Makes it feel less grindy.

The drop rate on this is BS...it is the worst I have come across. Unless you are grinding for EXP, you might as well skip this quest line...the final rewards are not that good.

OMG this is not even done and Ive gotten close to 30g worth of greens (to vendor) and smak loads of mana motes. Killed the odd rumbler and got essence of earth X 5. And im not even done yet! (31 59) is a great location. cn also do Disembodied Protectors are just north of the coords.

I had tried killing maybe 40 of these with only 2 drops, until I got to 30, 72, or the glowing ridges just south west of Area 52. Then my drop rate changed to about 1 in 3, if that bad. Who knows if it was location, dumb luck, timing, whatever. I was about ready to drop this quest when i happened to see some wraiths as I was flying back to Area 52, so I figured I'd go for it, and there I was with a great drop rate. Good luck!

Above coords are good. Flying mount really helps to jump the ravines. Even though it took 17 for my first one to drop, I got about a 20% drop rate overall.

A lowish drop rate (bout one in 7) but on the bright side loads of mote of mana which sell well on almost any server

As the X-52's chief of engineering, I have to see to it that the nether-rocket's main engines are in tip-top shape.

Unfortunately, I haven't built them yet.

<class>, I'm in dire straits here! I have almost all of the parts. All that I'm missing is the engine core.

Luckily for us, I think we can make use of the essence from the local mana wraiths to jump-start the engines.

They can be found near most of the glowing trenches in the northern part of the island. Except for here in Area 52, of course.
