This character, as wowwiki put it, is a reference to Mehran Torgoley's son.
It isn't uncommon, however to find people believing that this NPC is a reference to Abraham Lincoln.

I laughed alot over this npc according to the fact that

Abe in Danish = Ape/monkey in English
Seriously, if it was a danish Blizzard employee giving this NPC it's name, i'll be worried.

Technically, it could be both. It could be a reference that person's son, AND Abraham Lincoln, because if I remember correctly, he did grow up in a log cabin, thus it would make sense why this kid's name is Abe the Cabin Boy. For those curious when he says "Swabbing the deck cured my rickets!", Rickets is a softening of bones in children potentially leading to fractures and deformity. Usually its caused by a lack of Vitamin D.

It was cured from him due to his exposure to the sun while swabbing the decks.
