As of 2.3 these are much easier to find if you have on a pair of the epic engineering gogles https://www.wowhead.com/cata/items&filter=qu=4;sl=1;minle=100;cr=86;crs=5;crv=0

The clouds will show up as yellow dots on your minimap like regular mining/herbalism nodes and you can farm them with your mote extractor. The clouds yield 3-5 motes every cloud, so this can make for some very good farming, much better than the alternative of farming the elemental plateau.

I'm not sure how common this is, but Blizz doesn't seem to have been very careful about the placement of the clouds. I ran into one that was completely out of reach from the island it was near to. I waited for it to move, but unlike the other clouds, these don't seem to.

Very disappointing.

All the nodes I've encountered are all up in the air, near a floating island JUST out of range of the extractor, thus, I can get close to them, but not close enough to extract them.

Seems implementing arena season 3 (November 27, 2007) has destroyed all the gas clouds!

I couldn't find a single one today, in fairly extensive flyovers of Nagrand and Netherstorm - my engineer friends on different servers are reporting the same thing.

What happened to all the clouds? It seems as though they no longer exsist since the latest patch. Anybody else experiencing this problem or is it just me?

In the wow forums they said they would fix the problem on respawns in the next patch but it seems that they have fixed it earlier then that and they are back up and working. At least they are for me.

Ive been farming these for a couple hours. Here is a map of my cartographer after I cleaned up several clouds that were found in the same general area.

Something I keep seeing in all of your maps though. The windy clouds that spawn southeast of Telaar have additional spawn points that people miss. If clouds seem to be missing in that area fly off the edge of the map where the earth elementals are they can spawn on those floating rocks down there

I flew around on epic flier for about 1hr 45 min - and below is a link of the locations I noted down getting the clouds - collecting 150 motes of air.

There seems to be some odd clouds now and then spawning on edges of floating island - making them unreachable. I guess it will be fixed some time so it won't happen to often.

Fly around with your Engineering Goggles - after patch 2.3 as mentioned above = win :-)

this is the answer to my money problem! I grinded 17 primals in 3 hours last night, and I sell them in stacks of 2 on AH for 55g

Sometimes these clouds become unreachable so that, you get the message "Out of range" when you want to use your mote exctratctor. Can someone advise something?
(I also tried Levitation as I'm a priest but it did not work.)

Added one south of Oshu'Gun at 36, 81.

EDIT - 60, 71 yielded another new cloud for my Cartographer and this map, updated it.

I am having the worst luck with these .. they are always out of range i would just like people to confirm if they are a gnome / elf / tauren when they are having issues reaching them just so i am sure its not because i am a gnome >.<

Found two more spawn locations and added em to the most recent map.

First one is on a small floating island above Skysong Lake at around 58, 26

Second one is on a floating piece of rock in the Twisting Nether south of Oshu'gun at around 24, 76

Annoying thing about this is that fix for the unreachable clouds is rather simple, they just could increase the range of the extractor slightly.

Here's what I've learned after a few weeks of intensive farming.

First, you will make absolutely crazy gold with this and never have to run another daily again, period. I made 10,000g in one week selling Primals on the AH (22-29g ea.) and thats with only logging hours on evenings/nights and on the weekend.

The Windy clouds on the elevated plateaus can become bugged (right now there are 4 bugged on my Realm), and usually will not get reset until the Realm reset on Tuesdays. Upper windy cloud spawns seem to be directly related to each other... so if you have a bugged one at one plateau you will not see any spawns on one of the other plateau's you would normally see them at.

There is a bug with the minimap display that in less than 5% of the time a Gold "G" will actually be a warlock pet, and not a windy cloud... this usually refreshes within a few additional seconds.

Just a heads up.
If your bags are full and you extract one of these clouds, you won't get any motes and the cloud will disappear. Make sure you have bag space before extracting!

Has anyone found any windy clouds in nagrand since the latest patch? ive flown around for 2 hours or so looking for em (on a preselected route) and ive yet to see a single one. Ofcourse there could just be someone on an epic flyer keeping ahead of me..

Alright, posting a comprehensive list of gas cloud spawn points as of September 13th, 2008. I looked at all the routes and maps people previously put up, tried to keep it as accurate as possible.

a lot of these are not on the ground but on the floating platforms. remember to turn off your mining nodes, it makes finding these easier.

TBH, this is possible the most convenenient way to grind primal air, not only isnt there any ganking, but you can also farm veins at the same time as you fly around. The have fixed it but there is still bugged clouds where the clouds are on those floating islands but just out of range of the extractor.

I pity the poor nabs who don't have engineering. Having to grind somewhere like the plateu where they can be ganked.

Gas clouds hotfix
According to various mails and reports I got, it seems that Gas Cloud harvesting has been successfuly hotfixed and is now working again. You can now enjoy your easy primal farming again.

confirmed on my server this morning, windy clouds in nagrand are respawning :D

As the MANY posts say above, use the zapthrottle, if you're an engineer.

That said, several of the clouds are bugged and not in a position where they are reachable.

how do you obtain the clouds out of reach. the taking off the cloths and falling does not work it always stops the cast bar 25% through

/hate these, aprox 50% are bugged on the islands that float over nagrand, they seem to spawn on random pixels within about 50yards of and piece of rock. the last 3 mini patches have claimed to have fixed this issue. WRONG not fixed, wtb 60yard range on the mote extracto XD if u cant reach one also, dont tell a gm they just stiff u as usual

he is right. i reported these bugged clouds and the only thing the gm told me was they are investigating it. it's very annoying to fly past these all the time and think you can farm it, especially when you fall off the floating island and die trying to reach it.

In Nagrand some Windy Clouds are just out of reach from the floating rocks! How can these even be harvested if you cant use the mote extractor while mounted?

check out around the arena ring of trials theres usualy one there. there is also fequently one near the hord town, guaradar. and as another poster said around 30 62 i have been doin triangles for about 20 minutes and got 3 primals and lots of adamantite. 30-62 has a respawn timer of no more than 7 minutes. do homework+clicky=bling bling

seems like the respawn timer on the ones around the arena is about 15 min and the one near guardar is like 8

im not sure if this has been said in other comments but for any engineer who loves to farm these or the ones in SMV, ZM or nethersotm, i suggest getting the GatherMate addon.

ive been using it for about a week now. farming these have become so much easier. before it would take about 3 hours for each 20 primal air (i dont farm the others) now it takes about 1 hour.

edit: (also unsure if been said) theres a great spot at around 30 61 in nagrand to farm these. before i had the addon, i could farm about 10 primal air/hour just by standing around at those cords. great place for anyone who hasnt got the flying mount (as some clouds are in the floating places)

So far I've found these in Nagrand and you get motes of air using the mote ectracto. Felgas drops motes of shadow and is found in shadowmoon

These give out Motes of Air when the Mote Extractor is used on them. They were added in with patch 2.3. Fiance has been grabbing them today and getting anywhere from 2-5 motes each time he grabs one.
