Is this rod useful at all for building an offensive type of shaman? I'm not sure I see the benefits of the high intellect boost. Maybe someone could enlighten me on this matter.

This is a strange item indeed. The stat itself is decent for a lvl 46 item--but it's true use is actually not listed in the tooltip:
It actually copy some negative buffs applied to you so you can use it too. So far I've been able to copy poisons.. I suspect it have to be "on hit" stuff.. who knows--have a shammy friend whack you with storm strike and see if the buff pop up! This could become a very useful weapon if that works.

(I am a druid, and the buff works in form, and you can also gain the buff while you're in form)

It's pretty darn good, I enchanted mine to give it 19 intellect total. Tbh I can't really part with it yet. I am level 49, 50% to 50.

Don't go out of your way for this staff. Tabetha's Task should only be done if you happen upon this instance and you have her quest rotting in your log Illusionary Rodis basically the same thing but with an equip bonus.

No longer obtainable, so obviously anything is better. :)

Appears this item is getting a promotion from being a Green item with only 6 Stamina and 16 intellect to a Blue item with different stats in Cata.

Anyone know what mob dropped this? I have it on a very old Vanilla-era character of mine, but I have no idea where it came from or when it was removed from the game.

Would this rod or the Illusionary Rod be better for a mage?

for a mage, as i am, i feel the illuionary rod is better. there is only 1 intellect difference, and illsionary rod has 7 stamina AND 10 spirit, as well as comparable dps as well. for warlocks and druids and such, illusionary rod is also the best.

however, i prefer the hypnotic blade with the prophetic cane combo. it gives a total of 20 intellect, which is what i need for a mage, as well as 5 stamina and a pisly 3 spirit. you can also get this combo or the illusionary rod at around level 35.

in short, this staff for this level quest sucks big time. go do a few runs of scarlet monastary library and get better items. the illusionary rod even looks better.

i did 3 SM lib runs yesterday and the Illusionary Rod dropped each time hahah
so now i have one for my lock :D

got my Ilusionary Rod first drop then got it chanted fer fiery so i don't need the spellshifter lol =P

why would anyone get this when they most likely have the illusionary rod from 10 levels earlier?

I got both the Illusionary rod, staff of protection and Staff of jordan, who would go through the trouble of doing this quest, if not for XP...this quest reward is kinda cheap...needs to be a blue reward catagory.
