My realm (Llane) has been almost entirely Horde controlled in Tol Barad. The only day that the Alliance have controlled it was Monday the 20th. I am Horde, so this has provided some serious commendations for me.

I figure I have been doing the dailies and participating the Tol Barad match for around 8 or 9 days. What WarlockLover says is correct. Every time your faction wins Tol Barad, you actually get quests given to you by two mounted NPCs in the middle of Baradin Hold. They offer 3 quests each, and one of them sends you to one of the three outer prisons surrounding the Hold.

Yes, I can confirm this aforementioned NPC offers up one of the three prisons each time your faction wins Tol Barad, but once you have done all three prisons that day with three commendations per prison total, you will have run out of dailies for that NPC. The other NPC offers quests to kill eight crocodiles for hides (very awesome Skinning place, by the way), to kill the ettin Problim, and to clean up a dozen of wandering Alliance NPCs in the three main forts surrounding the Hold (the Slagworks, the Warden's Vigil, and the Ironclad Garrison). They will not flag you as far as I know, although they may flag you on a PvP realm.

These dailies alone offer you a whopping 12 commendations, and the Peninsula offers another 6 dailies for commendations, which gives you a total of 18 commendations without competing in Tol Barad games.

Each time you decide to play a game of Tol Barad and your faction happens to win, you get yet another 3 commendations, and these commendations have no daily limit. If you happen to be unfortunate enough to not be picked up by the queue for the duration of the game, fear not! As I am speaking, which they will probably fix this sometime within the next few weeks/months, you can simply charge into Tol Barad within the last 10 seconds of the game and receive full commendations and Honor credit as if you actually competed. That's right, 3 free commendations and ~100 free honor.

However, if your factions loses, I am sorry to report that you do not even receive a single commendation, which Wintergrasp featured a dynamic reward system which not only rewarded the losers for at least trying, but also rewarded the winners with individual commendations based on their participation in the game. Tol Barad has nothing like this. I hope they fix this, because even though I enjoy the fact that "haha, we're winning so much and the Alliance can't even win lol", I know that we'll get too arrogant some time and lose, and I don't want our people to suffer by not getting anything. I don't want anyone to suffer that way.

So, after this long rant, the bottom line is: if your faction has Tol Barad, farm the reputations and commendations while you can. Even without Tol Barad, just do the dailies that you can. Like I said, I have been participating as fully as I can within the past 8 or 9 days, and I am sitting at 160/200 commendations and somewhere around 14000/21000 reputation. This is easy. Don't fret if you don't have Tol Barad, some of the dailies are still there.

It's also important to note (because a lot of people still don't know this), that if you do the "winner dailies", then come back after your faction wins again, 3 more "winner dailies" open up. Make sure you're doing those, too.

/mountspecial doesnt make a roar. Funny thing is every other dragon i have roars accept this one. I guess they forgot to put a sound bite in for it. Too bad considering I spent alot of time earning the 200 marks for it :(

The Camel from uldum doesn't make any sound either and when you mount up it makes the same baying sound as the dwarf rams do..which is silly ...blizzard needs to get their act together on sounds.

Alright folks let's do some maths here:
If you do ALL quests, I mean also the quests in Baradin Hold when your faction's got it, each day, twelve quests per day, you need about 16 days; 2 weeks to get this beautiful mount:

200/12=16,6

You could always mitigate these days if you do all battle to take BH, 'cause each victory rewards yours with 3xTol Barad Commendation.
So, assuming that you will been called for the battle and win each day for about 5 times per day (more than 10hours of playing time):

/200=7,4

1 week of massive nerding. Happy farming :)

In addition to the other 'wind' drakes there are the following 'stone' drakes.

Reins of the Volcanic Stone Drake - From Glory of the Cataclysm Hero
Reins of the Phosphorescent Stone Drake - Dropped by Aeonaxx
Reins of the Vitreous Stone Drake - Dropped by Slabhide (in Normal or Heroic mode)
Vial of the Sands (Sandstone Drake) - High level alchemy only. Recipe found in Canopic Jars, obtained from Archaeology.

I just got mine today, the grind was well worth it, as it looks fantastic.

Very nice expansion signature drake, sure enough we will see alot of them around soon, but it is a lovely looking creature. I don't understand why people kick up such a stink about these things "not being rare". No mount is rare anymore, with the possible exception of Ashes of Al'ar and Invincible.

Working on the Spectral Wolf now.

I had 178 TB commendations when I got Exalted, hadn't bought anything from Pogg and I only participated in the battle for Tol Barad a few times. I currently have 188 commendations so I'll get it the drake tomorrow if Horde manages to get TB back, which I hope. I'm an old vanilla player that started playing again when Cata came out, so my stable of mounts is not impressive at all, so I'm really looking forward to butchering my manticore and feeding it to this beauty soon.

As of the new patch released today on live, the glow effects have been GREATLY enhanced. This drake looks even better than it did before, and is actually (IMO) now more impressive looking that most of the stone drakes. I'd post a screenshot, but my laptop doesn't run well on high graphics settings so it'd look bad.

I'm a Tauren and have noticed the 'saddle sinkage'. Looks to me like the position is the same but the saddle is actually larger. Also noticed the ribbons around the neck have switched places or have gotten tangled during hover and flight phases.

Is it just me, or is this drake a bit slower? I could swear it feels slower... maybe it's just the size. Beautiful tho.. wish I'd known about the colours before I blew 200 TB commendation points on it though.

Hmmm, Interesting, I am Horde on Black DragonFlight and I hardly EVER see Horde in control, and the one time I won in there , horde already controlled it. every other time I've Q'd for it, it has been Alliance controlled and there's no way in hell to win when attacking, lol atleast not yet, after 5 times in a row...and it really, really suks having to wait 2+ hours each time...I feel like it's a waste of time and effort to even TRY to get these drakes with the commendations.

ahh well, cata's WG I guess. we think it's one sided evertime anywayz, so I guess we're all just QQ'ing :o

and I thought opening oracle mysterious eggs for the last year and a half was a long wait lolz...a year and a half of constantly buying eggs and waiting 7 days to hatch, finally reared the green drake...oooo what fun that was.

the 13 20hr days in a row I spent hunting Time-Lost was fun!..the green drake?, not so much. Aeonaxx, hmmm 18 days in a row so far, only scanned him once at the very first day of deepholm dailys, coming into the zone, soaring for approx. 10 minutes, when the alert went off ...just passed another horde inflight, he said he got him...i never saw the wreckage, or any corpse either.
, hasn't gone off since and ppl would say if he spawned, cuz u jus' don't stfu if u find Aeonaxx, engage him and get the drake, I would'nt be quiet lol.

People who think this mount is easy to get obviously haven't got their Sha'tari Skyguard rep to exalted. That grind takes less than a day to get a Netheray whereas this takes a lot longer.

This (or any other drake of the winds) is THE mount to get if you're a shadowpriest. Screw proto drakes and even the nice Twlilight or Netherwing drake- the lightning effects make it bar none the best shadowformed mount in the game. I can guarantee it looks virtually identical to all other wind drakes in shadowform too, so you don't have to kill yourself farming the other varieties instead. This one is more and more common these days, but fly around town shadowformed and you'll still be a special - and badass - snowflake.

Unusual for the drake mounts, this set (drakes of the wind) have flat tails, and at the very least, the bottom of this one's flashes like a firefly. Amused the heck out of me first time I spotted it.

I got this mount after almost 2 weeks of grinding dailies in Tol Barad.
Few points to remember:

1. You will get 7 Tol Barad Commendations from Alliance zone in Tol Barad through 6/7 daily quests.
2. If your faction is controlling the Tol Barad you will get another 6 Tol Barad Commendations from the Tol Barad Peninsula through daily quests.
3. Daily you will be able to grind 13 commendations from quests.
4. Moreover you have a chance to get Breaking Out of Tol Barad and Just Another Day in Tol Barad achievements.

Good Luck and it's mount worth grinding.

Some people have complained that this drake is neither the most unique, nor the prettiest of the Cata Wind Drakes.

Well it is pretty unique in one regard: it is the only current flying mount that serves as a warning. Anyone flying around on one has had to endure hours and hours of questing in the most PvP-contested region in the game.

In other words, you don't have to be lucky to get this mount, but you do have to be tough and persistent (and doubly so if the enemy faction dominates on your server). Tol Barad is no place for the faint-hearted.
